A masterpiece of art and literature. Probably, the best animation movie ever made.

The artist carved his masterpiece with packs of wolves, caribous, birds, grizzly bears, forests, mountains, steam train, full moon, and plenty of wolves howling styles. Each element blended gracefully in an old fashion narration of love, family, marriage, and unity for the good of the whole. From the remote forests of Idaho and Canada, to the remote cultures of tribal marriage that strengthens the bonds between families, to the intriguing elements of nature such as mud slides and downhill skiing, to the stampedes of caribous that frighten ferocious wolves, the movie touches on the issue of real love founded on genuine choice. The alpha wolf, Kate, was struck with two choices. One, was uniting the packs and marrying the alpha wolf, Garth, which would have pleased their fathers, Toni and Winston. Two, Kate already experienced the fun and joy of the omega wolf Humphrey during their capture and dislocation ordeal. Kate dared to go against her father's wish and chose the omega wolf, which engulfed the wolf packs into war.Fortunately, for Kate, the forest took care of its own inhabitants. As the packs of wolves engaged in rage and fight, the birds were sacred, which alerted the caribous to stampede. The stampeding caribous brought greater dangers on the wolves, which forced them to cease fighting. Humphrey was also fortunate to have missed the train in his effort to break away from the pack. Both Kate and Humphrey were presented with one in life time opportunity to save their elderly wolves from the stampede of the caribous. The wolves' love story ended peacefully with Kate marrying Humphrey, and Lilly marrying Garth. Both were mixed marriages between alphas and omegas. At the end of the movie, the different artistic elements were displayed to represent the basics thoughts that gathered in the artist's mind in the making of the movie. The howling of two stranded wolves, befriended by two two birds, on the background of train wheels knocking the rail transitions, added extra sense of serenity to the milieu. Living the peaceful and tranquil nights in an open train car, zipping through the Rocky mountains and valleys, under the majesty of open space, full moon, and captivating nature, were the best experience the viewers will enjoy by sitting in a movie theater. The hawling

Exciting and fun all the way through

I had was not expecting much when I went to the theaters to watch this. But about halfway through the movie I realized I was sitting on theedge of my chair getting really excited about what was going to happen.I thought the characters were interesting and funny, and the overalltheme of the movie a good one too. I think the only only thing i wantedto see more of was more of the wolves interacting with the humans, orseeing the human world. But I thought that the addition of the geesecharacters was awesome!! they totally made the movie that much better. They were like Timon and Pumba from the lion king!I wish that I had movies like this when I was a kid!!

Another retarded, poorly written cartoon

I know this was made for little kids, but the messages it instills in their little formulative, impressionable brains is just plain terrible. This is a movie about wolves, but it overtly teaches children it's perfectly alright to be judgemental, superficial, arrogant, violent human beings.Kate is the cool, proud, strong, sophisticated Alpha wolf that is responsible and dutiful. Humphrey is the lovable loser Omega wolf that spends his time joking and playing around. Hump likes Kate, but she ridicules and looks down upon him. Any friendship between the two would not be tolerated. Instead Kate is expected to hook up with Garth, another stud Alpha wolf from a rival pack. Their marriage will supposedly unite the packs and end the pointless feuding so all the wild dirty dogs could chomp on some yummy caribou together. This basic, uninspired script is not really a problem. Arranged marriage? Primitive, but hey they are wolves. The constant wolf bickering and fighting is pointless, but it does accurately reflect human nature. It's also no big deal that the wolves get frightened by a pack of caribou and are forced to eat berries and cupcakes. What I found preposterous and harmfully derogatory was the divisive mindset portrayed here. Even when captured by hunters and expected to repopulate a national park, Kate looked at Humphrey with contempt and disgust. She refused to go slumming and give it up to the loser wolf. That right there teaches girls it's okay not to do their duty and spread 'em. Wrong on so many levels.Alpha and Omega had so many howling bad lines and silly developments. The visuals are pretty bland as well. Plus a basic story you've seen a hundred times before, mixed with negative messages to brainwash our kids. Am I overreacting? Yes. But still, there wasn't a great deal of effort put into this film. Save your money.

Cute and funny movie for the family

"Alpha and Omega" is a slap stick type of comedy and hilarious to watchfor younger families. My children, two boys ages 10 and 7 and my littlegirl who is 3, all love this movie. Older audiences can see theparallels to a "Romeo and Juliet" type of story, younger audiences justenjoy the comedy. My little girl gets into this movie very much, sheurges the animals to run when in danger and is happy and laughing whengood things happen. If you like movies like Lion King, Gnomeo & Juliet, and Rio then you will like this movie. I also like the fact that Idon't visualize Hayden Panattiere every time I watch the movie. Oftenwith movies I visualize the person whose voice I hear like AshtonKutcher in Open Season.

epic movie

ok so alpha and omega is a funny awesome movie i watched it once and i keep watching it that whole like month

HellsThorn (18 May 2012)

Not so great

It was a rushed movie. It was hardly an hour long, but the whole timeit had this kind of manicky tone - all the characters and line deliveryas well, like the producers were afraid kids would go to sleep or aretoo dumb to think. But Manic is alright sometimes, i reckon. However,in Alpha and Omega it does not work...it starts out a mess with fastanimations and quick cuts, giving a disorienting feeling, and once youfeel you recognize a character from the trailer, they are wisked offcamera. The movie doesn't lay the ground story very well - the whole'Alphas howl with Alphas and Omegas howl with Omegas' doesn't come offas crisp as it should have. It could of taken a Romeo & Julietapproach, but did not. That doesn't kill the movie, but the fact thatthe two leads (who fall in love inevitably) are an Alpha and an Omegais hardly given the time to establish. A&O is filled with clichés butright when you recognize them, another cliché is popping up. The moviegoes too fast from which it came (but it came from nothing because itwas all manicky at the beginning). The characters are typical, the busyuninterested girl, the silly fun loving boy who likes her, the stupidguy pals and the uninteresting dud that the girls father/society WANTSher to be with.As far as comedy goes, the movies not very funny. The script is notvery solid, and but does offer many moments when hilarious one linerscould have take place, but instead there's these hush awkward trying tobe funny moments that just made the theater feel more empty. And ratherthan building the characters up so they could become more than theirarchetype selves, they just put them in predictable situations likerunning from bears or marrying the wrong guy (imagine a kids movie thatdoesn't end with the male and female lead shagging up). The charactersfeel more like devices in the need to tell a story that has been told amillion times. Forbidden love? Opposites attract? Yeah we know.Even though i found myself dozing off, there was one or two moments itruly felt were good one even semi-great. The first time the two wolveshowled together on the train i felt was reaching and getting a response(from me at least) and for a brief second i felt myself involved, buthey that lasted for about 20 seconds.Maybe i am expecting too much, but i think this movie is only for kidswho don't listen to characters talk and just watch the pretty colors onthe screen because other than some nice aesthetics and a howlingmoment, this movie is the worst animated movie i have ever seen.

A Wasted Opportunity to Teach About Wolves

Although the movie's plot and animation at times try to depict thewolves and their world realistically -- which is when it mostentertaining -- most of it is silly, contrived, anthropomorphicnonsense. It distorts facts such as there is one alpha couple who leads the packand not two groups of alphas and omegas, the pack is actually anextended family, there is only one omega member, etc. But the worseaspects -- despite the plot's good idea of wolves being relocated byhumans -- are the silly clichés, the characters acting like canines oneminute and as humans the next one, and the animation that makes theanimals look like stuffed toys. The Omega male is an irresponsible immature slacker who uses largepieces of bark as boards to ride down the slopes. The Alpha female isresponsible and mature, hunts for the pack and is ready to sacrificeherself for the sake of the pack. The alpha males of two feuding packsarrange a marriage of convenience between their offspring to unite thepacks. The hero and heroine are saved by a duck and a Canadian geesewho is an avid golfer. Wolves do R&B howling...This movie does not come even close to a Disney or a Pixar. Instead, itmakes Bambi look like Citizen Cane and The Fox and the Hound likeAvatar. It is a pity the makers resorted to such a phony sillinessinstead of trying to teach children about wildlife with a truer senseof wonder.

Dillon Harris (17 May 2012)

Painfully unfunny, tries too hard to be a heartwarming movie and a kids movie at the same time and the side story is pretty much the same thing,

Alpha and Omega was a terrible movie, the animation wasn't great thecomedy and laughter was poor and the whole storyline suffers with a badstoryline, and it tries too hard to be a kids movie and a heartwarmingmovie at the same time and there really isn't anything funny ormemorable in it at all.Two wolves from different packs (one an "alpha and another "omega),maleand female(Humphry and Lilly),get caught by hunters and once theyescape miles away from home they work together, along with a french andan English duck to get back home, but romance gets in the way.Meanwhileat there home, an omega called Garth and l Lillys sister linda startfalling in love too.

spacefrogger-849-835321 (17 May 2012)

entertaining, but poorly written.

I thought this movie was entertaining and it wasn't a chore to sitthrough, but there was a lot of things missing and the story, althoughspontaneous, lacked plot. It starts off as a basic love story, somebodyloves somebody, but cannot be with them for whatever reason, and thenthey go on an adventure and fall in love. Well, this "adventure" wasn'tmuch of an adventure at all, they basically just ride home in vehicles. The story was "mushy". It had a lot of love scenes that strangely, instead of being romantic, had some sort of intercourse, or a hint ofintercourse. (be it kissing, or "repopulating"). There were a couplemissing parts like how dead trees appeared whenever they needed tosled. If I were to recommend one of my friends to this movie, I'd tellthem to wait for 2d or until 2d DVD. The 3d wasn't all that exciting, unless you want to pay 3 bucks to see golf balls fly at your face.

Charzard03 (16 May 2012)

A truly PAWesome movie!

When I first saw the trailer, I cant say I thought incredibly much ofit, the style seemed weird to me, and the butt humour shown in thetrailer didn't appeal to me much, but being a wolf lover, I decided topart with my £6 and go and see it anyway. It was possibly one of my best decisions ever! I loved it! The style, the thing initially putting me off wanting to see it, was one of thethings that grew on me the most. The movie has an incredible amount ofcharm in it, from the carefully and beautifully modelled scenery ofjasper park, to the awe inspiring background music. The voices arepacked full of emotion and the movies style fits in incredibly wellwith the whole feel to the movie. The movie is funny, yet it quickly finds a soft spot in you with theromance scenes. It has a very nice balance of serious and lightheartedness. It has humour in it for adults, that younger childrenwouldn't understand as well, so in my opinion, it can be enjoyed by allages. The overall plot is pretty predictable, but that is the same withmost romantic comedy's and alpha and omega has many things between theplot and its so beautifully done, you don't notice that much and it isstill easy to enjoy the film. One thing I feel is very important to note about this movie is theromantic scenes between Kate/Humphrey and Lily/Garth. In typicalanimated films with anthropomorphic animals, they tend to steer awayfrom romance between the characters. In Alpha and Omega, they don'tsteer away from it as much. The few romantic scenes within the movieare breathtaking, moment, music, everything is so finely tuned forthose moments. It is completely fair to say that this film has betterromance scenes in it than any other animated movie.Overall I give this film a 10/10, about and hour after watching thismovie I wanted to go in and see it again. Im 16 and enjoyed it a lot,so I think its safe to say that it can be enjoyed by all ages, not justkids.I have one final thing to say though. If your going in expecting it tobe just like a Disney, pixar or dreamworks film, your going to bedisappointed. Instead, go in with an open mind, you'll enjoy it a lotmore. Alpha and Omega is not a Disney or dreamworks film, it issomething totally different and new, has a different type of charm toit, but is equally enjoyable as anything Disney, pixar or dreamworkshas to offer!I highly recommend this film!

"Alpha and Omega" Follows the Pack

"Alpha and Omega" is your standard kiddy flick of conflict andresolution with much detail to the 3D imagery and not enough to keepMom and Dad entertained. The story brings nothing new to the party;it's like the friend that you invite and tell him to bring a side dish."Toy Story 3" spends all night baking cookies for everyone. "DespicableMe" puts forth an effort by bringing barbecue weenies in a Crock Pot."How to Train Your Dragon" takes the time and mixes 7-Up and punch. Then there is "Alpha and Omega," who stops at the local gas station andpicks up a fun sized bag of Doritos for itself and arrives 30 minuteslate. The story begins by introducing us to the main characters, Humphrey(voiced by Justin Long, the guy from the Apple commercials) as theOmega wolf and Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere from "Heroes"), as theAlpha wolf. They are acquaintances at the beginning of the movie, whereit is hinted at that Humphrey has a crush on Kate. After a winter atAlpha school Kate is being trained to become a leader of the pack andHumphrey is still palling around with his knucklehead friends.Humphrey and Kate's wolf pack has a rival pack that is trying to takethe caribou hunting from them. That doesn't fare well with Winston(voiced by Danny Glover) who is not only the leader of the pack butalso Kate's father. And, who is the leader of the rival pack? It's Tony(voiced by Dennis Hopper, in his last film), who has some unexplainedhistory with Winston. Tony. Really? This great wolf is the leader, theold wise sage, and that's the best name they could come up with? Tonythe Wolf. Sounds too much like Tony the Tiger. Humphrey is in love with Kate but she is arranged to be courted by therival pack's Alpha male, Garth. The packs have a ritual where theadolescents meet at a mountain in Jasper National Park to howl at themoon. It's comparable to going to a junior high dance at the taxidermydisplay inside a Cabela's. There was a song and dance element here thatfelt out of place. I felt uncomfortable to see these wolves danceseductively together in a kid's film. At that point, I understood whywolves chewed off their own leg when caught in a trap. At the "howling" Humphrey and Kate are hit with a dart gun andtransported from their park in Canada to a park in Idaho. Here they areset free and it's up to them to find a way back home. The couple is eventually befriended by Marcel, some sort of a crossbetween a Canadian goose and either a bald eagle or a vulture (Icouldn't tell) and his side kick Paddy, a yellow duck. These two birdsare avid golfers. Hitting the golf ball gives the movie a reason toexploit their 3D technology. Hey, you paid for it; you might as welluse it, right guys? Marcel and Paddy keep showing up during the movie to act as guides forHumphrey and Kate. It's not fully explained how these four keep runninginto each other but it just so happens that they always show up at theright time. The rest of the picture is about how Humphrey and Kate work as a teamto get back home while realizing an Alpha and Omega wolf can have deepfeelings for each other. Should you see this movie? Nope. It was trying to be kiddy movie withgoofy elements of bathroom humor and at the same time a movie withadult themes about falling in love. The 3D action sequences were well done. There were several scenes ofHumphrey finding old trees to slide down hills and incorporate thefirst and second person angles of sliding. And, as my 11-year-olddaughter pointed out, whenever these wolves needed an old tree to useas a sled it just so happened to be within reaching distance. How manydead trees are there in a forest? If you absolutely feel that you still need to go, bring your kids ifthey are under the age of 10 and if they have very little imaginationon their own. Or just wait until it's out on DVD because after youspend $10 each you won't be howling with excitement, it will be more ofa whimper.

Alpha and Omega : The High Maintenance Couple

Alpha and Omega is a competent baby-sitter but doesn't have quite thechops to be as absorbing for adults as well, as Pixar movies do. Themovie is a standard fare love story and standard fare animal animationsomewhat encased in a male bashing advertisement's philosophy. Humphreyis the idiotic male whose carelessness actually is a major plot pointin the story while Kate is a mature, responsible, competent hunter, pretty, yada yada and so on.The quality of the movie is top notch, and has a beautiful 3D thatcreates makes the scenes look much better and vibrant, though darkerlike using sunglasses using the 3d glasses. The movie is reminiscent ofa lot of animal movies that happen in jungles that partially crosspaths with humans. The golfer geese are funny and the bears, caribouall provide a lively background for the story to unfold.Great movie to go with your daughter if you can bear the kid directednon-Pixar movies.

Cute for the kiddies, but that's about as far as it goes.

"Alpha and Omega" looked pretty cute to me. I've always enjoyed the movies geared towards kids, and I'm a little ashamed to admit that I love movies with the talking animals. When I saw previews for this, I knew I'd have to see it, especially with my love for wolves. However, on its own, "Alpha and Omega" falls a little bit...well, flat. The premise is two rival wolf packs who want to unite and end the battle between them by marrying their two Alpha wolves together. The only problem is that Kate (one of the Alphas) and childhood friend Humphrey (Omega, lowest ranking) are kidnapped together and driven all the way from Canada to Idaho for a national park. From there, they have to get back home before the packs go to war, all while learning about love, trust, friendship, etc. along the way.And that's really all there is to the story. It's cute, don't get me wrong, but it's extremely basic and simple. From seeing just the trailer alone, you could pick out how many particular events in the movie play out. And even for the parts that don't involve the trailer, they're still predictable, and they use aspects that have been seen before in children movies (such as mistaking someone for dead, and they turn out not to be). Not to mention, you can see the ending coming from a mile away.It felt like it was trying to be a Disney movie, driving home on all of these sentimental messages, but just didn't quite make it. And really, the messages were practically screaming and so in-your-face that it felt like a little too much. However, I found it interesting that the howling in the movie is actually considered "singing." When the wolves howl, they don't hear howling. They hearing singing, and if you can "sing well," then it was the same as having that deep emotional wolf howl.Clever idea, but it took me a little bit to catch on to it.Now, let me say that it's not a bad movie. It's just a simple movie. It's clearly meant for the kids and that's about it. I always love when kids' movies also have the parents in mind, who have to sit through it, and I love when they throw in a few jokes here and there to keep the older audience entertained. Unfortunately, you won't find that here. It's all for the kids, and so is all of its "humor."The animation is pretty good, the characters themselves are likable, and the voice acting is pretty good too. But without a unique (or, at least, entertaining) plot, it's just mediocre.I had high hopes for this movie, expecting something pretty darn cute from it. Well, it was decent, but easily forgettable and nothing about it really made it stand out from any other movie out there, which was disappointing.

Bad

This movie, is bad in every part you can think of. Story, cliché.Jokes, old, unfunny and would actually make you cry. Animation, NOWHEREnear the top. I have seen worse, but this is also pretty bad. Voiceacting is pretty bad too. Justin long did a horrible job voicingHumphrey. After you watch just like 20 minutes, you will find out the wholestory, now add this to the lack of laughter, you don't need to watch itno more. I watched the rest in Fast Forward.I rated it 3/10 and I have gone too easy on it.Your kids might enjoy it but I doubt it.Don't watch it if you don't have kids.

Alpha and Omega: Great title, mediocre movie

To tell you the truth I was excited a bit for this movie. It had anappealing title, some good animation in the commercials, and from whatI heard, some good voice acting and story as well (though really, howhard is voice acting anyway?). What I saw was not that. Not thatentirely. Except for the title. That's still cool.Okay, so the animation first. I love the look of the charactersthemselves, but the animation is "meh" at best. Nothing I haven't seenbefore, and not really good at parts. Their fur is actually not likehow Dreamworks or Pixar would ever make it, and looks like it is gluedon with no real existence at all. And since when do manes look likebird feathers? The good parts were in the more acrobatic scenes, butit's not anything spectacular either. The story is like taking all the movie story clichés (examples:anthropomorphic animals, no food conflict, forbidden love, etc.) andmixing them into an animated potluck. No, not potluck, potUNluck. There's no lucky catch that saves this movie. Also, what really tickedme off were also some of the funniest jokes/scenes for me. The sexreferences. I mean, COME ON, it's a kid's movie. Those writers pushedit dangerously close in my opinion. For example, when the bird guys(pretty funny dudes, too.) see Humphrey and Kate sleeping in thatforest scene, one says "Maybe it's a bad time" and the other says"Actually, it's a perfect time. Heh heh." or something like that. Um,perverted birds much? The jokes are "meh" as well, pulling off of "buttjokes" mainly in the beginning. I sat there telling myself "It's goingto get funnier" through the first quarter of the movie. Yeah. And itdid. A little. The funniest scene in my opinion is near the end whenHumphrey says "They sent us there to repopulate." and makes that face, then Kate's mom tries to kill him. Funny stuff, but again, that wassort of a sex joke. Is this KIDS movie's funny parts really pulling offof stuff KIDS won't understand, or shouldn't hear? Really? This is whatI call a "rental" movie, you know, something to waste an hour and ahalf on those movie-perfect Saturday nights when no one wants to go tobed and will watch just about anything to stay awake. However, to makea true movie-perfect night, you'll need a true perfect movie, and thisis not it.

My 5 year old son really likes this movie - he watched it 3 times in the last 24 hours!

"Alpha & Omega"- A cartoon about wolves traveling across country and changing the order of the pack. Fun love story.I say B-, My Kids say A.

Cartoon about 2 wolves, an alpha (Panettiere) and an omega (Long),whoget relocated to Idaho and there journey back home. Two wolves that areunable to "be" together get captured and relocated to another parkhalfway across the country. They set out for home with help from somevery funny friends. Being a kids movie not much really to review,(except my kids really liked it). For the adults who watch this Ireally found it to be a metaphor for a class based system of the havesand have-nots. I may have read too much into it, but it makes a goodpoint of love conquering all, no matter who or what you are. Deepenough? There were some really funny scenes in this but it isdefinitely a kids movie. Adults won't be totally bored, but don'texpect "Shrek" type humor in this. I give it a B-, My kids give it anA.

Simply, a great CG film...

Ok, don't listen to all of the bad reviews on this movie... I am 16 and me, my girl friend, and a couple of my friends went to the movies to see this, and we all loved it (even the whole theater got up and clapped!) So don't say it was bland and had bad animation, remember this is Crest's first animated film (Their first film to be exact)and they know this. They did not expect it to be good (even know this was a box office success they got $20,000,000 more than they expected to get)and to make it even worse is Dennis Hopper died making this film so give some respect... Overall, this is a really great movie and I highly recommend this not for kids, but to older people too. I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5!

A Sarah Palin must see!

A great family movie. My wife and I saw the movie today and will go see it again this weekend with my grandaughters. It has enough silliness to entertain younger kids and some slightly more sophisticated humor for the adults.

jimmerw (06 May 2012)

Yawn

Watched this with kids and even they lost interest in this as itprogressed. It just seemed like a weak copy of so many other moviesabout animals trying to find their way home and dealing with perilsalong the way while enlisting the aid of bumbling animals. Not to mention how the story kept trying to be a love story. There wasvery little originality and it struggled to keep the interest of 6 yearolds. The "done to death" story line and forced, tacked on love story made avery dull, mediocre movie. There are so many animated movies fighting for an audience, this onefell far short of competing. It felt like little more than an attemptto wrangle hard earned money from the wallets of parents looking for amovie that would appeal to their children.
