It is just another day at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a few astronauts were repairing a satellite until, out of nowhere, a series of asteroids came crashing into the shuttle, destroying it. These asteroids also decimated New York soon thereafter. Then, NASA discovered that there is an asteroid roughly the size of Texas heading towards the Earth, and when it does hit the Earth, the planet itself and all of its inhabitants will be obliterated, worse, the asteroid will hit the Earth in 18 days. Unfortunately, NASAs plans to destroy the asteroid are irrelevant. That is when the U.S. military decides to use a nuclear warhead to blow the asteroid to pieces. Then, scientists decide to blow the asteroid with the warhead inside the asteroid itself. The only man to do it, is an oil driller named Harry Stamper and his group of misfit drillers and geologists. As he and his drill team prepare for space excavation, the asteroid is still heading towards the Earth. When the crew are launched into outer space, they are determined to destroy this asteroid.

Crappiest Action Movie I've ever seen
See, I love Science Fiction, and I don't have problems watching a wellmadeAction Film every now and then.But Armageddon really was a punch in my kidneys. The absolutelyunrealisticstory and the slimy characters with their more than slimy behaviour reallymade me want to leave the theatre.The only funny thing were the psychological diagnostics before themission.The embarrassing portrayal of Russian MIR and the more than embarrassinglanding scene ("You are the daughter of the bravest man of the world",baaaaaah) are just two examples which make this movie worth forgettingveryquickly...

they don't come much better than this!
Armageddon is quite simply one of the most exciting action films evermade,lightning-paced, explosive and a humorous edge along with it. Thesescintillating ingredients combine to make a rollercoaster epic that leavesthe viewer gasping for air at the finale... bruce willis and ben affleck'schemistry is a joy to watch and there is great support from Will Patton,Billy Bob Thornton and the giant Michael Clarke Duncan, this is oneadventure that you simply do not want to miss!

not impressed
I realised when into the "action" portion of this movie that it was acomicbook and little more. I didn't like it, it was boring and derivative andWillis was surprisingly dull.Did someone in the script mention "Road-runner"??? Must have beeninsight.

The definition of Hollywood crap
Roger Ebert called this "the first 150-minute trailer" and I think he hitthe nail on the head. However many millions of dollars were spent onmakingthis movie should have been used to feed starving children in Third Worldcountries. It would have been much easier and cheaper to take clips fromevery other space action movie made up to this point and string themtogether. That's basically what Armageddon amounts to. Some argue thatthisis an action movie, it provides what it's supposed to provide, and you'renot supposed to look at a movie like this with any intelligence. True, buthow can you help it when this movie takes itself so seriously? It's likethefilmmakers actually believed they were making a serious drama, and theyexpect us to care about the romance between Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck andall the other dramatic crap they throw at us. Gimme a break. The storyitself can't even be taken seriously. A meteor big enough to end all life("even viruses") is headed towards Earth, and we have only one chance tostop it. So we put our trust in a bunch of oil diggers? I'd like to hopeNASA and our government would have a better plan than that in real life.This movie could have been good if it realized the absurdity of thisstoryline and just went for sheer entertainment value. But the peopleinvolved seem to think this is some kind of major work of art. I thinknot.

Be prepare, dear reader, because I gonna crush this f***ing movie!!!
This is one of those movies that has absolutely NOTHING on the positiveside, so all my comments will concentrate on crushing it. I think that, ingood conscience, I must warn you that this is one of the worst movies evermade, and if you haven't watched it yet, avoid it at anycosts!!!My main gripe is that the camera is one of the worst I've ever seen.Sometimes I think that the camera man just thinks "F*** you, this angle istoo boring! I'm gonna look at something else." And it looks like he thinksit in almost every scene! The result: the camera keeps going around andaround like a crazy b*** and quickly gives you a headache!Another one is that the cast looks like a list of bad actors that doesn't"fit" with the movie's story at all! Bruce Willis making dramatic momentsp***es me off and that whatsthat Liv Tyler is a lesson of how not toact.Also, the story is very, very ridiculous! Well... I'm sure that the wholeworld wouldn't take the solutions that it took when trying to save theworld. C'mon! We're talking about saving our planet Earth, so sendingsonovab***es like they did in the movie surely isn't a goodidea!Well... any other thing I haven't mentioned yet? Oh, yeah! Next time, NASA,try not to make propaganda telling us that the world is gonna blow up withan asteroid 30 years from now, OK? It wasn't funny.

Camera switching too fast?
I don't know if it's just me, but isn't the pacing a little too fast? Imean, they change the camera angle twice every second, and I never reallyfelt that I was in the movie. It was more like watching a nice but 2 hourlong trailer. I'm sorry to say that more and more movies are done thisway -even if Michael Bay is extreme. What ever happened to the cameratechniquesthat were used in superb movies like Escape from New York and so on...?Themovies "flow" is slow, but still very exciting and, according to me, hasmuch more "feeling" about it.... Hopefully more people agree with me. Anddon't get me started about slow-motion ;) Yep, slow-motion is too slow,andagain you feel like watching a trailer... Once again Escape from New Yorkshows how to make a really good movie without using slow-motion either.

Very realistic with a twist of humor.
I really enjoyed this movie...I have seen it four times, first of whish was at the movies. It never wandered away from reality...they went out and got the best group of men in the world to do the drilling job they needed to get done...irregardless of their backgrounds. Maybe the government will ACTUALLY consider that one day. In other words, look at how well a person does their job or @ their education instead of how many traffic tickets or trips to jail they have had. When it comes down to it they got the job done. This movie was unlike any other movie I have seen with the same story line....they had a lot of comic relief in it....True it had the same story line as "Deep Impact" But I think the actors and their acting were much much better than the ones in the other movie. One of the things I really liked were the clips from the other countries...the movie made you feel like you were somewhat actually experiencing everything. But it is very much a realistic and probable event that can take place....There actually is a big asteroid out there that isn't expected to hit for quite sometime....This movie was much much better written than Deep impact.....one was more drama and the other was action. How people rate this movie really depends on what kind of movie you like...if you like a serious movie with no humor clips then it's no wonder that some preferred deep impact over this one.... I think it's all in how well the actors do their job...and the actors in Armageddon did a job VERY well done! BRAVO! So I give it 5 stars! and a 1/2 if I could! :)

Just silly...
Lots of famous face in this movie, and I still can't believe it. I meanseriously, this is the most sentimental, predictable, stupid andonly-for-Americans movie I've ever seen. Crap, crap, crap. Don't seeit, whatever you do. It's not entertaining at all. It's a lie! A bigmeteorite stone thingy is coming, and it's gonna destroy the earth. Iknow the solution! Bruce Willis and his macho buddies. Somehow theymanage to become astronaut in only a few days. They build some kind ofspaceship and a space car in less than a week, and then send all themachos out in space to stop the big bad stone. I normally like LivTyler, but her I just felt sorry for her. She just cried through thewhole movie. Steve Buscemi the same. He is a brilliant actor, butsomehow he ends up in this crap movie, which is still a mystery tome... The only good thing is the Aerosmith song "I Don't Want to Miss aThing", which is kinda cute.

A movie that could of been a good movie
This is one of those movies that starts of well, but falls over quickly,annoying over dramatized crap, too much flashing, strobe effects, half thetime I had trouble following what the shuttle was doing.They could of drilled 10 800 foot holes in that rock if they stopped alltheover dramatic goodbyes, arguing, hugging etc etc.I was rolling my eyes and shouting at the TV for them to get on with it, Iwas an angry man by the time this movie finished.

Okay, I'm A Sucker For Stuff Like This
Yeah, yeah, I know the science is rubbish, and the acting (except forthe adorable Owen Wilson and the estimable Will Patton) is trash, andthe script is laughable. Except...when it's not.I confess! I always tear up at the end, ham-handed and hammer-subtle asit is: the wall painting of JFK and the little kid with his spaceshiptoy and all the rest. I don't watch it for enlightenment, or to admiregood direction or good acting. I just watch for fun, and I've probablyseen it a dozen times on TV.I have a thing for end-of-the-world movies, and I also enjoy, if that'sthe right word, everything from "Earthquake" and "Volcano" and "Dante'sPeak" to "Deep Impact" and "Day After Tomorrow." It's a weakness, butit's MY weakness. Better that than bonbons.

The "Anti-Independence Day"
Why was this movie even made? It contained nothing original - not thatthat's always a bad thing. While Independence Day took every Hollywoodaction movie cliche & wove it into the movie ride of the summer, Armageddonthrew all their tired cliches into a blender & came out with a mess. (Thescreenplay seems to have suffered the same fate cast member Steve Buscemidid in "Fargo"). I didn't expect much from this film, and I still wasdisappointed! I couldn't recommend this movie to anyone, except maybe a 10year old who had never seen a movie of any kind before! Watch any of themovies Armageddon ripped off rather than rent this hi-budget,loser.Is this the "Showgirls" of Sci-Fi?

Greatest Movie Ever
This movie was one of the best movies that I have ever seen. It is filled with a bit of everything: action, sci-fi, comedy, and of course the romance between Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler was so real it amazed me. I only wish it could have been me!!! I own this movie and I watch it all of the time, and I suggest everyone else do the same!!

MST3K material in 10 years
It's that bad.Unrealistic. Deep Impact was far more realistic. Too patriotic. It's likeJoel Schumacher was aroused sexually by the repeated American imagery.Special effects that reminded me of "Batman and Robin", another Schumacheratrocity.The intro was pretty offensive. Jive-talkin' non-white guy gets smashed byasteroid. Lotsa inbred junior Klansmen were probably laughing their headsoff.But thankfully, Bruce Willis and the Fightin' Aryans save the day.Liv Tyler, the helpless female spoil of success for Ben Affleck.What's really disheartening is the fact that three very good actors - SteveBuscemi, Billy Bob Thornton, and Ben Affleck - were submerged in thisGrade-A horse manure.Oh, and the soundtrack was horrifyingly bad. It sounded like I was beingforced to listen to classic rock radio from the 1970s. And every singletime Liv Tyler was on the screen they had to play that hideous Aerosmithsong.Thank all that is holy that the movie ended.And let's hope Joel Schumacher gets hit on the head by an asteroid andsuddenly gets a sense of TASTE.

Try forgetting about yourselves for a while - you might enjoy it!
There's not much I need to say, really, except that all the people whohavewritten to the effect that only stupid people could possibly like thismovieare themselves a few braincells short of a six-pack. They're apparently sofar up themselves that they seem entirely to have missed the point thatthisfilm knows exactly what it's doing from start to finish. It knows it'scorny, it knows it's crazily larger than life, it knows it's out to pushallthose staple movie buttons, and so it does it all with a terrific sense ofhumour and, more importantly, on a scale that simply beggars belief butwhich - crucially - works fantastically. Contrary to what some people say,director Michael Bay does a simply tremendous job of making the whole,massive juggernaut of a movie bolt along at a terrific pace, and even moreremarkably, manages to engage your emotions even while you're laughingyourhead off at all the hokum. Other people complain about the characters, butIstruggle to recall a movie that crammed so many memorable - if, naturally,larger than life - people into a single movie. Basically this film is purecinema. Sure, it's not an Ingmar Bergman film, but it never wants to beone.And if, as anyone with half a brain cell should see, you judge it in termsof what it does want to be, you will see that it succeeds quitemagnificently. Sorry to get a bit personal with this review, but as apersonwho enjoys movies of all sorts, I just couldn't stand by and let arrogantfools diss a top movie for no other reason than it doesn't stay true tothe'laws of science' (sheesh, get a life guys!) and doesn't want to fit intoonly the small category of 'coolness' they're pseudo intellectualitypermitsthem to admit to enjoying.I gave this movie a 9, by the way.

Super silly, and super fun rollercoaster ride.
Armageddon is just a movie that you sit back and let it take you for aspinaround on a giant asteroid. Sure some say it's silly, loud, and at timestotally preposterous. But, it's also a lot of fun. Just a good, actionadventure film to watch after dealing with eight hours of the realworld.

So bad it's funny
I can not believe how much money they spent on this. There are so many badthings about this movie that I can not possibly list them all here. Sufficeit to say, there was no plot. They tried to hide this with pointlessexplosions and tension-less action scenes, but it didn't work. Deep Impactwas boring, but this was BAD. Go see the Sixth Sense instead. Bruce Willisis far better in that movie. This one is an embarassment.
