Honestly, I probably would have given this a 7.5 for the concept ofaction during a movie  It's pretty much got a lot of different typesof movie genre's going for it  Yes, Independence Day meets A littleBlack Hawk Down meets  District 9 meets  Cloverfield  I think thecamera jittering is good at first  then becomes less noticeable as themovie progresses  And I didn't mind spending the money  at thetheatre vs. waiting for it to come out on video  Will I buy theblu-ray of this, probably  The language is to be expected  If you aresympathetic to the Marine Core as I am  or towards the military  thenyou may really like this movie- My wife and I did  The plot stands onits own, because that's exactly what a movie of this type is supposedto do  move along quickly and provide realistic action  which it did If we were being invaded by aliens  this makes it some whatplausible as to how things could go down  in this type of scenario Âwhich that was it was trying to accomplish  I hope this helps some, just my two cents.

Have to admit I enjoyed this movie up to the ending. The fighting wasgreat the aliens and there vehicles were pretty neat as well its justthat we would of had our buts kicked a lot quicker and harder. The reason the ending annoyed me off is why would they bother havingthere command and control center be so lamely defended. The would haveto of known our military capability so something so vital would of beenstrongly defended for anti air ground. And why would they not base it in space, and why don't they haveorbital bombardment capability, along with there drop ships in theinitial invasion they should of had some of them actually be bombs totake out military bases. In general not a bad movie but plot holes did it for me, at least itwas not as bad as the biggest turkey of the all independence day, wewon because they did not invent anti virus software.

Battle Los Angeles doesn't bring anything new to the alien attack genre.

a kind of cross between what I imagine the first person shooter video game experience to be and an episode of the HBO series Generation Kill

Drinks on tap? In England this means drinking a lot from on bar or pub, watch the film and you will see what I mean. If Independence Day madeinvasion look clean and nice, this is quite the reverse, gritty, dirty, bloody and more realistic, which is a good thing.Clearly this is Aaron Eckhart's film, and Ramon Rodriguez who I lastsaw in Transformers: Revenge is a stand out, and an actor I hope willbe seen in good roles soon. Michelle Rodriguez seems to be everywhere, blows aliens away just as good as anyone else, the cast, the world isall but cannon fodder for the aliens to be cut down. The digital print was crisp and clear, Jonathan Liebesman direction onthis film is good, Christopher Bertolini, writer has turned up aninteresting story that needed a bit more time for characterdevelopment, but it is a worth a ticket, lots of action, aliens anddestruction on a world wide scale.

Positive: Military recruiting storyline of how much fun it is to kill anything that's different (i.e. the aliens as a metaphor for racial, cultural and religious differences even species differences). Oh right, would have been shared party time if they hadn't struck first. Negatives: (1.) 50% of movie consisted of closeups of facial expressions; mostly hero soldiers with a few distraught/vulnerable civilians and children sprinkled in. Cheap substitute for lack of most every other film attribute such as a story, acting, setting, cinematography, script, directing. (2.) 25% of movie consisted of the cheap standby of wrecking yard vehicles and burning tires and styrofoam representing scattered concrete blocks with really badly overused high school level CGI for aliens, buildings, etc. (3.) 25% of movie consisted of puny power weaponry to prop up characters slightly less bland than the aliens with lot's of Hoo(r)ah for extra toughness. (4.) Script and characterizations were developed for a juvenile level male audience comprehension with attention span brains developed from gaming. Oh well, so goes the real American education. (5.) As for the science (or lack of): Our aliens supposedly came to the only place in the "Known Universe" where there is liquid salt water to power their machinery. Well, first off maybe they should have gone to the "Unknown Universe" initially - haha! Second, actually water is ubiquitous through out the Universe and is a relatively poor source of energy. Third, I doubt that their level of development would still have them making Erector set style space craft that are physically inefficient if not ineffective. Fourth, since there is no ballpark habitable planet within a thousand light years of here - that would be one long trip even at near speed-of-light which would require so much energy that they would have to bring a Sun along with them to draw from as an energy source. Battle L.A., money and the increase in entertainment junkfood:And I thought that the increasing inequality in the accumulation of wealth amongst the business/financial and legal profession representatives relative to the actual producers would eventually bring America down but now I thinking of adding mass market media reps to that exclusive list.

I'm in no way, shape, or form a self-proclaimed movie expert, but thismovie was entertaining from start to finish. I don't get the low IMDbrating at all. As far as extra terrestrials invading Earth movies, thisis probably my favorite one. I like how the aliens aren't theseunstoppable creatures with shields and laser guns. It really makes themovie feel somewhat realistic. I honestly went into the movie withextremely low expectations after watching Skyline but was pleasantlysurprised and it was time and money well spent. Looking forward to theBlu-Ray release. Again, I don't know why it's only rated at a 6.5/10.The only reason that I can't give it a full 10 out of 10 is the PG-13rating. I know for a fact that F-bombs would have been flying left andright if a squad of marines were at war with an alien species. They dida good job though for that rating.

This film could not have been any worse if it had had John Wayne in it. The editing was horrible on every level, only beaten out by the non-existing directing and acting. The dialogue came from numerous grade B war movies. If you like good sci-fi stay far away from this loser.
elaine-bannon (17 May 2012)
I went to see this movie with no idea of the story, no expectations andwas thoroughly entertained for all 116 minutes.Without spoiling any of the story they have taken the key ingredientsfor a Sci-fi and mashed them together with the high adrenaline humantragedy that goes with war. It is a story about survival of thefittest, humanity and teeth gritting determination. From reading other reviews I am told if you like Cloverfield, District9, Independence day and Blackhawk down you'll like this. Personally Ihated Cloverfield and District 9 but I loved this even though there issome shaky-cam scenes. It might not be for everyone but if you likeSci-fi/ Independence day and Blackhawk down/ war movies in generalyou'll enjoy this.

Wow, military recruiting videos sure are fancy dancy these days. This one tugged on my heartstrings like I was a yo-yo, yo! My only beef is the scene where Harvey Dent tells the Mexican boy -- who didn't do anything but cry and whine throughout the film -- that he was the bravest Marine he'd ever met seemed a bit overblown. I suppose the jarhead league needs more Hispanic recruits lately or something.

I really got into this movie. It was higher pace than what I expectedit to be. I thought it would be a bunch of flying planes trying andtrying to blow this big thing out of the sky. It was different. Otherpeople I talked to said it was a little off, however, most movies thattake on the military will be a little off. If you go into this moviewith knowing that, that imperfections pertaining to the military won'tbother you, in my opinion. I think the graphics were awesome, and theacting was definitely above average, though, there was some obviouscorny parts that seems constant with 'alien vrs mankind' movies. Theaudio in the beginning seemed a little echoey, but once the moviestarted picking up with some action, that ceased to be an issue.

Nice marketing but a truly awful film that hardly shows any alien action. Avoid this. You have been warned.
Operton (11 May 2012)
This movie is about a surprise alien assault on earth. It concentrateson the fighting in Los Angeles. The whole film is from the perspectiveof a US marine platoon and plays out similar to an old Vietnam Warmovie. Some have criticized the camera work during the fighting scenes asjumpy & dizzying. It is jumpy but I think the intent is to create thefog of war. U cant see clearly what the enemy is doing nor how many ofthem there are. The camera does a good job in this respect. On DVD, Ididn't get dizzy at all (& I have a problem with dizziness) but I couldsee how watching it in a theater could create nausea. Another criticismwas the lack of character development. This is also true but I was OKwith that. I didn't need to know every soldiers life story. The filmfocuses on a few main soldiers. The others are supporting cast. A lastcriticism of this movie is that it was pro military not politicallycorrect. I'm glad there was no political correct agenda in this movie.Films are stories for entertainment not political propaganda. Overall this was a good movie. I only had a problem with its ending. Ithought they would need more firepower to do what they wanted to do.Its as if the alien war machines became flimsy. If U believe movies should have politically correct agenda then this isnot your movie. However, if U like sci fi & want to watch a plausible"what if" scenario, then watch this movie. It has some flaws but it isreasonably good.

[It] isn't nearly as good as any of the movies that may have inspired it, or even its own knockout trailer.
Cadako (07 May 2012)
The movie was great! Some scenes were drawn out for story purposeswhich were highly unnecessary but it didn't take from the movie much. The action was intense from the get go. They make it seem like you'rein the battle for real with them. Bullets flying over head, explosionin every direction from an enemy that blows through our infantry likenothing. One thing that I think A LOT of people didn't like was howhectic a lot of the scenes were. People...this is a WAR movie and agritty one at that. Not some over-watch crap. You're in the streetswith them hiding behind cover. The aliens are very unique from anyothers I've seen...half organism - half machine with their armor andweapons literally attached to their body AKA the ultimate soldier. Ifyou're reading this and have a general appreciation for allmovies...SEE THIS. Let yourself become involved. Don't be like everyoneelse and judge movies like you know how to make one!

If you watched ID4 (and most have) then you already know what thismovie is about. Even the part where they examine the alien is almostidentical to will smith finding his alien. Character development wasmushy, everyone was a hero, no one was a serious bad ass.The drama in this movie caused me to fall asleep several times in thetheater and was unnecessary to the true threat. This movie was verypredictable and very unoriginal in the fact that five lone marines wereable to do what an army was not able to do. Ending was the worst.Staff sergeant was told to go get some breakfast after winning a fightagainst the aliens and he responds by grabbing more ammo and gear andtelling his commanding officer that he already had breakfast and wenton to battle more aliens....right after he had a two day, no sleep, noshower, no food battle...very unreal and horrible acting.Battle scenes were great, though the camera moves a lot but I did enjoythe 40 minutes of action but hated the hour long drama that was sohorrible. By all means, watch it once, to get in the effects but askyourself this: why didn't they drop the atomic bomb like in ID4?
audiorepairs (03 May 2012)
All through this movie the focus and zoom is pulled back and forth andthe camera angles changed with such frequency that I felt a littlenauseated. That almost ruined the movie for me. However the movieitself did offer some enjoyment and it did capture my attention. Yeahthis is not a bad movie, I can't say I really enjoyed it but its farbetter than some of the movies I've seen lately. Technical aspects arewell..don't expect too much..the aliens and their drones are a bitridiculous, you'll see what I mean. This movie reminded me of war ofthe worlds, District 9 and others..yet its still kind of original. Worthwhile..

OK let me get to the point. This movie sucks, yes it sucks. Whatexactly? I don't really know. Maybe a slur pee? Possibly, since allthis movie does is make your head numb from all the intolerable rubbishit spews into your eyes and ears. In this movie you have an advancedAlien race thats flown from the deep reaches of space to get to ourplanet so it can invade it. Their only problem, the good old USA ARMY,with its infantry of MARINES. The Aliens who for some reason throughtheir technological advancements never seemed to have invented anythingto help them with aiming, or maybe their just crossed eyed? Anyway longstory short, The US MARINES who couldn't win against tribesmen armedwith AK47's in the 11 or so years they've spent in Afghanistan manageto (spoiler alert) thwart the plans of an intergalactic ALIEN force.Yeah thats really close to reality, like when a nerd managed to bringdown the ultimate defense shield of an Alien race that had beentraversing the galaxy exterminating species with a...wait forit...computer virus from the mid 90,s. Yeah good one Hollywood. Another2hours of intellect reversing footage Hollywood deemed to call a movie. Why I never learn I will never know...P.s If you end up watching this movie make sure you have your box oftissues at 1h 17min.
