It's tempting to call Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son a huge waste of talent, but considering the talent involved, that doesn't seem like much of a waste.

Momma Gonna Knock You Out

Don't need a momma to tell me this movie is funny. Trent's out of highschool and he got a letter that he is accepted into Duke University.Trent would rather be a rapper by the name of Prodi-G. So one day he'sapproached by a record label but the contract needs a guardian'ssignature since he's only 17. Malcolm (Martin Lawrence) doesn't signthe paper since he thinks it would be better if Trent (Brandon T.Jackson) stays in school. So Trent follows Malcolm on a stake-out tosee if he can force him to sign the record contract, but finds himselfwitnessing a murder by a Russian bad guy. Malcolm has a plan to hidethe both of them until they catch the murder at the Georgia GirlsSchool of the Arts. Hilarious. All around great comedy/crime story forall ages, but it is pg-13. I think this one is the funniest out of thefranchise. I think people will now have confidence in watching anotherMartin Lawrence Film. Loved it 4 out of 5 stars.

I am so glad I didn't waste any money buying tickets to go watch this, but I indeed regret the time I lost.

Been awhile since Big Momma was in the house and well she is back andshe is big and this time she is dragging along her niece. Malcolm whois trying to crack open a case ends up getting his only witness andsnitch killed. Trent who just happened to be at the wrong place at awrong time witness the murder and now becomes the hunted! In an effortto retrieve some valued evidence and also to protect his son's life,Malcolm aka Big Momma enters an all-girl school dragging along his sonTrent aka Charmaine with him. It gets into all kind of crazy when thatyoung boy ends up in an all-girls dorm. Boys will be boys.John Whitesell should have left the franchise be. He just revived itand it fell harder than it did during the 2nd movie back in 2006.Everything was not right in the movie. I will shine some light on afew. The Cast. You can't bring in amateurs alongside a star comedian. Martin Lawrenceaced his way through the movie. He was brilliant as Malcolm and he waseven better as Big Momma. I wish I could have said better about BrandonT Jackson. He was good, but Lawrence was just too good for him. It wasnot Just Jackson the entire cast I felt was too weak to be up beside agreat like Lawrence. Imagine watching "Wild Hogs" with Martin Lawrenceand this same cast. Wild Hogs was a hit, but if the cast was not right,it just won't fly well. Jessica Lucas was gorgeous but her performancewas not very convincing either. It was a good strategy to cast inLawrence to boost the ticket sales, but it just won't fly withoutsupport. The ScriptThis was the only good thing out of the bad. The script was writtenwith a lot of fast moving and slapstick comedy. This is a good sign. When a script is average this means with the right talent behind thecamera and the right talent in front of the camera, the production willscrape to come above average. A good effort by the writers. Sadly yetagain, it will not fly without the support.DirectionJohn Whitesell is no newbie. He has been around for some time. Althoughhe is not household as many of the big fish in the industry, he didgive us "Malibu's Most Wanted". Although not a soaring success story onits own, it was watchable and it was funny. It's sometimes felt as ifthis was done on a very low budget. A very low one indeed.I am so glad I didn't waste any money buying tickets to go watch this, but I indeed regret the time I lost.

Brent Simon (18 May 2012)

Devoid of ideas not reflected in its title, or even much in the way of sustained comedic effort, this is a bloated, wearyingly unamusing affair, from start to finish.

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son

The first film is obviously good fun, the second film was a bigdisappointment and waste of time, I had a feeling this third instalmentwould be just as bad, from director John Whitesell (Big Momma's House2, Deck the Halls). Basically Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) is stillhard at work with the FBI, and his stepson Trent 'Prodi-G' (Brandon T.Jackson) has grown up to be an aspiring rapper despite being acceptedinto Duke University. One night Malcolm is caught in the middle of agang raid, and Trent witnesses the leader Chirkoff (Doctor Who's TonyCurran) killing someone, and this forces him and his stepfather to hidesomewhere to stop him finding them. So naturally Malcolm has once againdonned the Hattie Mae 'Big Momma' Pierce outfit and disguise, and Trenthas done the same to become her great niece Charmaine, and they areentering all-girls performing arts school. While hiding out they arealso looking for a flash drive hidden somewhere in the school, BigMomma is the head of the house (of course), and she gains a slightenemy in Jasmine (Portia Doubleday), and Trent is gaining a crush onHaley Robinson (Jessica Lucas). Trent's feelings soon go over his head, and he almost forgets that he is meant to stay in disguise and hidefrom any possible gangsters, but he cannot stop his feelings takingover and wanting to be himself for Haley. After lots of trouble,near-misses, concern from principal Gail (My Name Is Earl's Ana Ortiz)and a big talent contest, the gangsters eventually find out whereMalcolm and Trent are, and the flash drive is found as well, but in theend the bad guys are caught, Haley stays with Trent, who also decidesto go with the advice of "father" Malcolm and go to University afterall. Also starring Faizon Love as janitor Kurtis Kool, Michelle Ang asMia, Emily Rios as Isabelle, Henri Lubatti as Vlad and The Hangover'sKen Jeong as Mailman. Lawrence and Jackson do okay in and out of thewoman costumes and masks, and some of the supporting cast members arealright too, obviously I might have giggled at some of thecross-dressing and dialogue jokes, but it is same old same old and inways tedious stuff, a silly comedy sequel. Adequate!

Kirk Honeycutt (17 May 2012)

This is not a case of doubling the fun so much as an anxious attempt to revive a franchise running out of gas.

Felix Vasquez Jr. (17 May 2012)

I did have a fun time wondering why character Malcolm's first answer to any dilemma is to dress up like a woman. Does he have a back stock of these fat suits?

Memorable comedy film to enjoy

I got this film from Netflix and I thought that it was a pretty funny film. Although, they could have added more humor in some scenes but for the most part, this was a pretty funny film with some laugh out loud laughs. So yeah, this film does bring some good laughs. I was hoping that it would be a little funnier but this film was funny enough for me to enjoy it. I give "Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son" a B+ and 3 out of 4 stars. I do agree that the critics shouldn't have trashed this film. This film wasn't even bad at all and there are much worse comedy movies out there. I know when I see a very good or at least decent comedy movie and I know when I see an awful movie like "All About Steve". Now, I agree with the critics that "All About Steve" sucked and wasn't even funny. Heck, this film was very funny and it did bring me and my dad some good laughs. Martin Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson did a good job acting in this comedy film. Also, Ken Jeong made a cameo appearance in this movie so he did a good job with his role as well.

Did they think we forgot about the first two -- is that why they left off 'part 3'?

Why does Martin Lawrence keep donning the fat suit to play Big Momma? How many more situations can he get himself into that he has to rely onthe help of his alter-ego, Hattie Mae Pierce? Apparently enough to makea trilogy out of the Big Momma movies. At least Lawrence is getting apaycheck, what are we getting out of it? I would explain thecircumstances on how and why Malcolm (Lawrence) and his stepson, Trent(Jackson) go undercover at an all-girls school, but -- really? This isa Big Momma movie, people -- plot is really just a moot point. Thewriters only have one job on a movie like this, get Malcolm and Trentinto drag as soon as possible, because there's nothing funnier than afat, sassy Southern black woman stereotype. Isn't that right, TylerPerry? Maybe they need to do a Madea/Big Momma crossover and just geteveryone offended at the same time.I understand that they were at a performing arts school and everything, but did we really need to sit through 5... count them, 5.... musicalnumbers (6 if you include the music video during the end credits). Ifelt like I was tricked into watching some stage play version of BigMomma where the characters just break into song on a whim. Maybe that'swhere they're trying to take the Big Momma character....because shecertainly would put the BROAD in Broadway. Yes, bad pun, I know... butforgive me, please, I just had to sit through a Big Momma movie. Morereviews at www.soveryterry.com Final Grade: D+

Looking back, it's strange to remember that the first two movies were both hits, and that Paul Giamatti and Terrence Howard even saw enough in the premise to sign up for the original. At this point, it's really all just flab.

Big Mama & son

Personally I preferred part 1 and 2 the best. This 1 is lacking some of the humor and comedy of it.It is a good film and well worth watching. But I suggest watching part 1 first if you have never seen it.It was much Much Better.I couldn't wait for this to be aired so I could watch it then When I seen it I was glad I never Spent extra on it.All in all yes I am sure I will watch it again. But it is not as funny as 1 and 2

A film to sit back and relax with

I really liked this film even though some bits of it were stretching it too far. The usual comedy of Martin Lawrence is no surprise but I was really impressed with Brandon T. (Charmain) I thought he was the real deal in this film. He performed both parts so conviningly and was spontanous and hilarious. His bonding with his father (Malcolm) and the girl he loved (Haley Robinson) was the main line of the movie and I thought the lines in both these parts were funny and touching at times. The highlight for me has to be his singing with Haley throughout the film, it felt natural and entertaining. Even though the film overall appears to be a light comedy themed film, it has its deep bits that kind of flows with the story.Overall, great work and great fun. I definitely would recommend it to anyone.

Best Big Mamma

I really like this movie. It had humor dancing, singing, and great actors. This was the better than the first two! His son brought a new insight fo ths movie and I enjoyed watching it.

You should be ASHAMED......

This vile movie is beyond dreadful. Martin Lawrence is a no talented buffoon and anyone who would go see this crap(much less ENJOY it) must have a double digit I.Q. You don't have to actually see this movie to give it a review because you already KNOW what it is. This movie is geared toward what is known as the "Urban Market". I'd like to think even the Urban Market knows that it is being crapped on by Martin Lawrence. This movie is THE prime example of what HE and Hollywood think of you and that is VERY LITTLE.

So Funny

I really enjoyed this film, way better then the first 2. It has lots of funny scenes. It is very entertaining. Martin Lawrence and Brandon T Jackson played very well together and really did a great job with this film, I really hope they make another big mommas house.

My Kids Loved it!

Really Funny, Great Family Movie! Fan of Martin since his sitcom. Some parts are corny and some are extremely cute. I say, worth the money.

Jackie K. Cooper (04 May 2012)

This is number three and the bloom is off the rose. Martin leave the drag to Tyler Perry and "Madea."

Anna Smith (04 May 2012)

Whoever demanded a third instalment of Lawrence's mirthless mash-up of weak gags and cross-dressing horrors should be imprisoned and forced to watch it on repeat until they repent. Avoid.

Robbie Collin (03 May 2012)

It's amazing really, when you look back at the Big Momma's House film series, how many major crimes can be solved by dressing up as a fat woman.
