This show rocks my BONES!!!

Bones is a gripping thriller that leaves you craving more. Though the images border on grotesque and the content is almost always morbid, the drama between characters and interesting plot twists help you stomach the rotting corpses. If you enjoy amusing banter, thrilling cases and drama, drama, drama, then Bones is the show for you!

Technologically Interesting but otherwise routine

Happily, I see the show at this point is in its sixth season, so that nothing I might say will have any impact on its success. In brief, I did find the technical stuff interesting but the remainder of each show is a rather tedious, abbreviated rehash, of every man-professional woman relationship since Tracy and Hepburn made a series of classics (and, no doubt, before that). I have no quarrel with rehash when well done but here I find it so compressed and stereotyped as to make it nothing more than an adjunct to the modern machine stuff and predictable to boot.Overall, this first year would have discouraged me with it after several weeks were I watching it in real-time. Never having seen it on TV, perhaps I am mistreating an experience intended to be seen in 45 minute segments only once a week.Oh, yes, the discs themselves, while looking and sounding OK (so far as I can tell since I used the subtitles), forced me to get out the most powerful magnifying glasses I have just to read which side I was on and what it contained.

Good blend of character relationship, plot, and occasional humor in horrific situations

David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel start well with better thantwo-dimensional characters in a fresh look at a CSI type show. Based onthe real-life work of forensic anthropologist and novelist KathyReichs, it's fun, kicky, and only occasionally too gruesome to look at.Not quite like one of Ms. Reichs' novels, it is still a pleasure for afan (me!) to watch. Boreanaz' past work on Buffy and Angel stands ingood stead here as he delivers lines that stand up to a strong femalerole without diminishing it. Also like Buffy, humor lends grace toembarrassing social situations that highlight common humanvulnerabilities. Surrounding the 2 major players are other characterswho add to the thrust of a character driven show. The writers do goodwork giving each character unique attributes that have nothing to dowith hair color or body measurements. The entire cast does a good jobpresenting real, quirky individuals who don't have to rely on looks tosell the worth of their character to the viewers. That alone issomething new for any CSI show. Still some rough edges in writing anddelivery (Tempe's "I wish this was the worst I have seen" was painfulfor all the wrong reasons),"Bones" has great potential.

Why DOUBLE THE PRICE on this Great Show?

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I love this show and was adding it to my Christmas list only to find that the price had MORE THAN DOUBLED in the past few weeks ~ from $19.99 to $42.49!!! (This wasn't a price available from outside vendors, it was from Amazon itself "with free Super Saver Shipping".) I thought Amazon was supposed to provide Good Deals!?! The show gets 5-stars, but Amazon's pricing deserves 0- or 1-star(s).

Bury these Bones!!!!!

In the interest of full disclosure, let me start by saying 3 things: 1. I really wanted to like this show. I think David Boreanaz is hot, and I never got to watch him in Buffy, because I don't like that genre2. I am not a fan of CSI-type shows. But I did watch CSI first season and thought it was excellent. 3. I have watched 6 episodes so far hoping for a turnaround, but think I will just abandon. Some people have called Bones a sexed-up CSI. I think a better description is a dumbed-down CSI. I do not understand the almost 5-star rating for this show. Here are the problems I see:1. Bad acting by Boreanaz. I hope he was much better in Buffy. 2. Cardboard characters such as Zach.3. Bad writing. You want to shoot the writers with some of those lines.4. Predictable endings. You can guess who is the murderer 90% of the time.5. Repetitive plot cues. Dr. Brennan always figures out a case by a "eureka" moment, after someone says something not related to the case.6. Oversimplification of characters: Dr. Brennan is so asocial she doesn't even get pop cultural references thrown at her by Booth. 7. Everyone talks about sexual chemistry between the 2. Please....8. When they are driving in the car, the outside looks fake. In "The Man in the Bear" episode...the mountains looked pasted in the town's background. All the corpses look fake too.Well, I could go on and on. I really want to stop watching and then because of the rave reviews, I hesitate. I wonder if the show gets better. Alias' first 5 episodes are horrible, and then it becomes really good. The problem is that not once, have I felt the urgency to stay up and watch the next show. This urgency is a sure indicator of how good a tv series is. The advantage of buying a DVD set is that you don't have to wait one whole week to catch the next episode. Perhaps in this show's case....waiting a whole week might actually be a good thing. Long enough to make you forget the bad stuff, short enough to incite you to give it a second chance. On the other hand, there are so many great shows out there. Why waste time?

Worth the purchase

I truly got my money's worth with this purchase. If you enjoy forensic science with humor, this is definitely something you would enjoy seeing.

Bones - Will they or Won't They?

Booth and Bones, Mulder & Scully, and Lyman & Moss. If you got the lastreference I am impressed. What do all of these dynamic duos have incommon? All have chemistry, so much so that from the first episode onthe viewer is always asking…will they or won't they.In the series Bones, partners Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan solvemurders. She uses science, and he uses his street wit and superiordetecting abilities. It sounds sluggish. However, the on screen pairingof David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel created sparks from the verybeginning. Her portrayal of Bones' dry, egocentric wit, and Boreanaz'suse of his natural charm mash together into a gooey wanting ofcoupling. For a while it went back and forth. He loves her. She isattracted to him. Always the subtle references and back handed commentsabout love, friendship, relationships, and life. The writers took a leap in probably the worst thought of season finaleever, where they bring two similar character together in Booth's headwhile he is having brain surgery. It is something we are all trying toforget. Booth has since struggled with these feelings, eventuallyadmitting them to Bones. She brutally tells him that she does not feelthe same, and they go off on hiatus for the season. So now Booth has someone new, and Bones is realizing that she may havelet the love of her life slip away, a back and forth. While the angst is appealing for a while, it is getting rather tedious. The will they or won't they, has gone from what is going to happen, toget it over with already, will you? I think they are adorable, and theshow, while steady in the ratings, is inevitably going to falter, and Ifor one would rather experience them together then have it be theseason or series closer. The charm of Booth and Bones is their mutual respect and witty banter. The cases are interesting, but lets be real. We watch the show for thecharacters. In the coming episodes they are promoting Booth's impendingmarriage proposal to his current flame Hannah.Again, will he or won't he? Are we going to drag this all the way downthe aisle, or will Booth come to his senses? Will Hannah get a call toleave on assignment, and ask Booth to go with her? So many cookiecutter choices, what's a writer to do? Don't get me wrong. I likeBones—really liked Bones when the serial killer's head blew off twoepisodes ago. I like Dr. Sweets, Angela, Hodges, and the ever revolvingcast of interns. I enjoy the banter and the chemistry between Booth andBones.I like it. I just don't love it.Amy Romine BellaOnline's Prime Time TV Editorhttp://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art26762.asp

Incredible First Season

I am absolutely taken with this show. It stands out from other forensic programs as it focuses more on relationships than the cases themselves. This makes this show much more re-watchable. The casting is fabulous, although I did have a little trouble adjusting to David Boreanaz in the role of Booth at first. The characters are lively and outrageous, and when put together create some very interesting moments. The only thing I'd criticize are the inconsistencies. One minute Bones is too literal to understand a joke, but later one she makes one herself. Zack is even more literal, but occassionally we hear him say things like "Be Kind, Rewind". There are a lot of great episodes with tons of character development in this season, namely the Christmas episode - "The Man in the Fallout Shelter", and "Two Bodies in the Lab". The special features are great as well, especially David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel's commentary over the "Two Bodies in the Lab" episode. The further seasons are great, but none compare to the first.

Bad writing, bad acting

The plots are sort of interesting as is the forensic investigative techniques, but I cannot get past the horrendous writing and terrible acting. This show has the potential to be good, but honestly, the acting is atrocious. The characters are not well developed (very simplistic) there is too much talking about completely irrelevant stuff. Don't buy.

Bones Series1

Having purchased the DVD of ' Bones', I didnt know what to expect, however I was pleasantly surprised, it is like C.S.I. but with more glamour, and it works well !I would recommend this DVD, if you havnt seen the TV series, like myself.Happy watching!

Bones is good.

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I really enjoyed this cd's. I really don't like the "Bones" doctor being so technical and perfect. The stories seem to center on mainly her and not the rest of cast. I hope it will get better.

Same/Different

I watched the show and it did feel familiar, yet fresh also.Emily/Temperance is very convincing and the rest of the cast isn't yourevery day cute side kicks. They seem like real squints, and that is awhole other world they live in. A bit of a stretch on the Holographicskull and body stuff. I'll go with you there, but only if you let thesquint out of the lab more. David B is and always will be Angel to some people, watch this show andyou'll come away thinking its more Angelus than Angel, the humor andcomic timing between him and Emily has the makings of a Moonlightingrelationship if, IF the writers want to play it out that way. All inall, a good show, directing was crisp the photography was also good.

(11 May 2012)

Witty and clever

This is such an entertaining series. I do love my mystery and crime. This is a combination of forensic knowledge, great funny characters and superbly thought out crimes. Bones and Booth work brilliantly as a team. Her lack of emotion and empathy is balanced by the FBI agents humour. I really like this series, because the combination of characters is just right, all they all bring something to the table

MVictorPjinsiste (10 May 2012)

Skeletal on Substance

This is so bad I don't know where to begin. The lead role is a good starting point. It is a supreme Mary Suecharacter that has few things in common with the original one from thebook, who was (a bit) more credible. No, this one is invincible, infallible, indomitable, and insipid even beyond the overinflatedstandards that this "chicks with swords" era that our medias arespinning out of late. She is a twenty-something top-model, thin as amatch yet rich, already a leader in her academic field, a kung-fumaster, a natural sniper and seems to have enough authority tonaturally trump anyone official like puny FBI agents. She is God.To balance it out, she is supposed to be socially awkward (due to hertypically harsh upbringing that transformed her into a "Spock") whichgives us some delighted moments where she wonders what is "Star Wars",or "American Idol", but yet when it's really important she canconveniently reveal herself as a top negotiator and diplomat, becauseshe is so superior, ya know. To top it out, she is played by a woodenactress. The more talented Boreanaz serves as a faire-valoir token for thisconstruct, acting as a bumbling comic-relief and house "Watson". Infact, everything in there is a pop-parody of better works like SherlockHolmes, CSI and X-Files, from which it tries to emulate the sexualtension between main protagonists. It is however cheaper, as this isdelivered with all the subtlety of an elbow poke in the ribs, but amillion million poor factory girls will doubtlessly buy into it, hencethe crazy rating this turkey gets.In fact, the lowest common denominator goes a long way in this sadpuppy, resulting in titillating sex details from the legion ofsidekicks that aim to pass it out as daring and trendy, while theoverall tone of the show carries an obvious neo-conservative view onthings.Story-wise, there's not much here to feast upon, as crimes (that alwaysstart out with some gruesome remains) are resolved using non-existenttechnology while the "squints", lovable but so wrong (the women lessthan the guys) goes on varied theories, all of them futile as the maincharacter has it all from the start, and once it is established shegoes out and then punch the guy, typically a real tough hombre, with aspin kick here and a slapper there. The end.

I watch Bones and 24!!

When this show came out I watched the pilot and the next two episodes. After watching these three episodes I was hooked on the show andstarted watching all episodes! Something about this show is very good. Also I like Temperance's competence and intelligence. This show and 24are the two shows on TV that I have to watch each week. I'm very happywith this show, I should pick up the DVD's of the first season. I'mglad that a third season will be released. I look forward to moreinformation about the show and the characters. I think the best episodeof the series was when Bones and Hodgins were buried alive undergroundin the car. The drama was very good in that episode. I hope they keepthis show on the air for more years. It reminds me of The X-Files. Amale and female gov't agents working together to solve cases. Althoughthis time there is no paranormal or gov't conspiracy cases, justhomicide cases. I want to see a movie about the show sometime! Hoorayfor BONES!! :)

Best show on TV

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I love this TV series. I think Bones has much cleaner humor than what is out there these days. It also has a good story line for all the characters and you find out more and more about each person from episode to episode. It can definitely become addictive. I think if you like investigative shows that are more light hearted and funny then Bones is an awesome pick.

So much fun!

This show is so much fun to watch. It's great how the show seamlessly combines crime solving with character driven stories. Season One is particularly fun to watch because you can go back and see where the characters started and then realize how well they've been developed over the years. Of course, having Zach appear is a definite added bonus!

Great show, but ...

This review is from: Bones: The Complete First Season (DVD) I love the show. The characters drive the show more than the rather realistic effects. My only complaint about this DVD collection is the way the discs themselves are put together. The episodes are on the front and back of the discs, and the writing on the discs are so small it is hard for me to tell side a from b. The packaging does not tell you where the break between the sides are. I am happy to say that this was corrected on the second season, which was also excellent.Bones - The Complete Second Season

Sad, horrifying, bitter sweet, and hilarious!

Bones is the hit show on Fox which has been running for four years now,and it stars Emily Deschanel ('Glory Road') and David Boreanaz ('Buffythe Vampire Slayer', 'Angel') as Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan andSpecial Agent Seeley Booth, a forensic anthropologist and FBI agent whowork together to solve homicide cases, some from many years ago. Whileinspecting the cases, some personal issues arise and they talk abouttheir latest relationships (mainly Booth's) and Bones' family; theyalso have underlying sexual tension and it's so pointedly talked aboutby Angela (Michaela Conlin), who says that Bones is overdue for a flingor relationship, and Hodgins (TJ Thyne), who comes to Bones' rescue anddefends her right of privacy. The show deals with relationship, both ona professional and personal level, and it addresses proper medicalterms (mainly used by Zack, who's played by Eric Millegan). TamaraTaylor joined the cast as a regular as Dr. Camille Saroyan, whoreplaced Jonathan Adams as Dr. Daniel Goodman, the director of theJeffersonian Institute. The series is loosely (and I mean *loosely*) based on the life of realforensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, who's also a producer on theshow, and her character Temperance Brennan who is the main character inher hit book series. Ironically, Dr. Brennan is an author on the sideof being an anthropologist and her main character is basically Kathy,an anthropologist herself. It's also (loosely) based on Kathy'sreal-life cases and adventures. But one difference between the booksand show is that in the show Temperance is a bit uptight and isshielded from the rest of the world; all she sees is blood, humanremains and the effects of the war in places like Vietnam. She also issingle and has communication problems; Whereas the book version ofTemperance is the exact opposite. She works with her partner DetectiveAndrew Ryan and she has a child (who's all grown up and in college)from her marriage, who she divorced, and she has a bird called Charlieand a cat in her house. Dr. Temperance Brennan is dedicated to herwork, constantly thinks about her daughter, is still good friends withher ex-husband and thinks about curling up in Ryan's arms every night.Whereas Temperance in Bones is childless, never been married, doesn'thave any pets and lives in an apartment. She also doesn't have anyromantic connection to Booth (except for the kiss at Christmas time),and she's basically clueless when it comes to pop-culture, replying: "Idon't know what that means".Dr. Jack Hodgins is named after one of the producers friends, who'salso a doctor, so whenever he tries to google himself he gets thecharacter of Jack Hodgins, not himself directly (which may I add istrue. Just google "Dr. Jack Hodgins" and you'll get the character andactor (TJ Thyne).) Although Dr. Jack Hodgins is actually a real person, the rest of the characters aren't real people, nor are they reallybased on a person in particular. They're just characters in a massivehit show which was founded by Hart Hanson. In saying that, Hart toldKathy and the companies that he didn't want his show to be solely basedon the science, but of the characters and cases. He wanted to dig intothe characters pasts as well as solve the case and have a lot of thescience and accurate terms and movements in the show. Boreanaz was thefirst to be cast on the show for the role of Seeley, and Deschanel wasthe second as the title character Dr. Temperance Brennan. Boreanaz wasunsure of accepting the role because of his first meeting with Hart andBarry, even though he was drawn to the script, but the producersfinally convinced him to accept. And the rest, as they say, is history. So, if you want a crime show which not only focuses on the cases andscience aspect of it, but also the relationships between thecharacters, background stories, touching moments, romance and loads ofcomedy, 'Bones' is a MUST SEE!

Song Title

In the first episode, when "Bones" is piecing together some bones, anice song is being played. Male artist/group. Not sure of name of songor artist. Can anyone help me? Just so there is no confusion, I shouldmention that there were several songs apparently played on thisepisode, such as "I Turn My Camera On" by Spoon; and "Every Ship MustSail Away" by Blue Merle. I think the song I am looking for is playedbefore these - toward the beginning of the episode. It would be nice ifplaces like IMDb, the BONES official website, and others, would giveinformation on music contained in each episode along with the otherstats like actor names, etc. It would sure be helpful for those of uswho like trivia about movies/TV series.
