Hmmm.. let me say its DUBIOUS..!!

Entertaining... A sci-fi set around 1942 with technology and weapons of21st (or perhaps 23rd) century and a hero who from being a weak andfragile person transcends to be The Captain America with the help of ascientist (or perhaps we should say A Magician..!!) and fights againstthe villain Red Skull (literally..!! though how he got that red skullwas not explained) who with the help of a CUBE (said to be left by theGODS, reason unexplained.!!) wants to destroy everything for someunexplained reason,,.. And in the end the villain was killed or betterto say disintegrated (like voldemort..!!) by the CUBE, due to someunknown and unexplained Godly phenomena..!! Yet, with all this sortcomings, the movie is entertaining.. Its just the beginning of anothersuper hero movie series, may be with a better storyline the sequels ofthis movie will be MORE ENTERTAINING,.!!

A worthy addition to comic movie lore and a great prequel for The Avengers.

I must admit that I am an avid fan of the Captain America comic bookseries and as such I was eager to see the big budget cinematicadaptation of my favorite super hero. I must also admit that I was atad let down by the movie, but only because I am so intimately familiarwith the character and history of Captain America and was hoping for afew things that just weren't in the film. That being said, CaptainAmerica is still a very good movie and is well worth the price ofadmission.Chris Evans isn't stellar as Captain America, but his is fantastic inhis role as Steve Rogers, the scrawny kid that is all heart. The moviespends a great deal of time establishing and developing Steve Rogersbut is a little lacking in the establishment of Captain America as atotal bad-ass. That's just me nitpicking a bit, I really wanted to seeCaptain America wade through legions of German lackeys and take themout with impressive, Matrix-style martial arts moves. There is a bit ofthat but not to the degree I was hoping for. I also wanted to seeCaptain America in training, developing his fighting and tacticalskills to superhuman levels, instead there was on-the-job training. Itworked and the fact that Captain America is truly heroic is evident, Ijust wanted some Batman Begins training to hone and solidify that fact. When it is all said and done Captain America is a fine movie with agood lead actor and a stellar supporting cast. Tommy Lee Jones is greatas the gruff Army Colonel, Stanley Tucci is brilliant as the fatherlyDr. Abraham Erskine, and Dominic Cooper delights as Howard Stark, father of Tony Stark, a.k.a Iron Man. Captain America is funny when itneeds to be, action packed where it can be, and grounded throughout.Oh, and stay through the end credits, The Avengers looks like it willtotally rule!

This movie is like an intro to Captain America for the real film 'Avengers' which will be coming out in the next 5 months

The low rating that you see here in IMDb, thats because of the 2nd halfof the movie. The first half was really good, almost as good as ironman.I have never read any Marvel comics, so I may not have understood manyof the nuances in the story........But I absolutely love superhero movies like batman, ironman, x-men,etc., because of that I was disappointed with this movie. It does nothave a HEART. They just filled it with gun shots and explosions like abond movie. And so many things in the story, like jumping in-front of a grenade, and the one that really irked - the climax - Captain America acted likean idiot. It was meant to make him look heroic, OR, did they think theaudience is made up of real morons! So after saying all this - myrecommendation - go see the movie. :-)..............But keep your expectations down. The real movie, 'The Avengers', which will come out in May 2012, Ithink we need to have seen this movie to get into the game. That moviewill have Robert Downey Jr the Iron Man, Captain America and the othersuperheros all together. They even showed the trailer to that movie atthe end of this movie! Cheers! :-).............

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is excellent!

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is excellent! This is how the story goes: Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull. The cast led by Chris Evans (as Steve Rogers / Captain America) is excellent. The directing by Joe Johnston (also executive produced) is excellent. The screenplay (based on the comic books by Jack Kirby & Joe Simon) by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely is excellent. The music by Alan Silvestri is excellent. The cinematography by Shelly Johnson is excellent. The film editing by Jeffrey Ford & Robert Dalva is excellent. The casting by Sarah Finn, Randi Hiller & Priscilla John is excellent. The production design by Rick Heinrichs is excellent. The art direction by Dean Clegg, John Dexter, Phil Harvey, Paul Kirby, Jason Knox-Johnston, Chris Lowe, Andy Nicholson & Phil Sims is excellent. The set decoration by John Bush is excellent. The costume design by Anna B. Sheppard is excellent. The visual & make-up effects are excellent, as well, as the stunt work. This is another excellent comic-book adaptation (from Marvel Studios & Marvel Comics) that is well-made and entertaining. It is also fun and well-paced. Chris Evans is excellent as Steve Rogers / Captain America. This is one of the best movies of the summer and of the year, as well, so far.

It is a blast to watch

Mark May 4, 2012 on your calendar, because "The Avengers" film will bereleased. So far in both "Iron Man" films, the second "The Hulk" film, and "Thor" film, we got clues about a powerful super hero team beingassembled to fight evil. One more piece was needed to complete "TheAvengers" and now we have the "Captain America" film.I was wondering how director Joe Johnston was going to get CaptainAmerica to modern times so he could become the final member of TheAvengers. He began the film with a discovery of a downed airplane inNorway. People from Washington, DC were contacted to check the wreckageand discovers the shield of Captain America. So the rest of the film is telling the story about how Steve Rogers avery skinny dude who wanted to fight in WWII but couldn't pass hisphysical, then a scientist used him for an experiment and it changeshis life. The performances of Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, StanleyTucci, Dominic Cooper, Neal Mc Donough, Derek Luke, Kenneth Choi, JJFeild, Bruno Ricci, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, and ChrisEvans makes "Captain America: The First Avenger" a film you can't miss.Oh make sure you stay to see the extra scenes after the end credit andbefore the Paramount logo. You will be glad you did.

Thus Far The First Avenger, is the best avenger...movie

This review is based on seeing the movie Theatrically, not from seeing it on DVD or Blu-RaySo Captain America: The First Avenger is the last major comic book movie to come out this summer, and the studio system has certainly saved the best for last. Captain America: The First Avenger is filled with action and adventure, subtle romance, a villain that seems to be just pure evil, and one of the finer hero's journey stories. I saw the movie in 2D, because I read it wasn't worth seeing in 3D, and after seeing the film I didn't see anything where 3D would have added much to the experience of watching the film. The cast was absolutely amazing, everyone played their part and didn't out shine anyone in terms of performance. Chris Evan signed on for nine films when he was cast Captain America. That was a great decision on the studio's part because he was spectacular in the role, a huge departure from his other Marvel based role of The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films. He is able to capture pure good essence of the Captain America character without a factor of unbelievability that he is too good, and he comes off as relatable throughout the film.Hayley Atwell plays the Captain's love interest, Peggy Carter, she plays a strong willed but still slightly vulnerable female lead. She's assertive and certainly has some attitude to her. It was great to see that they did not dumb down her character in the transition from comic book to film, because it is very easy to do that when making a movie set in the 1940s but the writers and director didn't do that at all.My personal favorite performance of the film is Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. When this casting was originally announced, I got excited because Weaving is great in every geek property he has a part in, whether it is The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, or V For Vendetta and now Captain America, he always turns in a stellar performance. The Red Skull for those who aren't familiar with the character is one of the more major villains in the Marvel universe, and one that doesn't compromise his agenda for anything, he is just pure evil and nothing less than that, and Hugo Weaving conveys just that as The Red Skull. The one detail that I was a bit weary about going into this film was the director, Joe Johnston. For those who don't know, Joe Johnston early in his career. directred some awesome films such as The Rocketeer and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, while lately directing some films that were just terrible, The Wolfman (2010) and Jurassic Park III. But upon seeing Captain America: The First Avenger, Joe Johnston has regained his directorial touch he had while directing The Rocketeer, which makes me think he should just stick with directing movies that take place in the 1940s. The performances he was able to get out of the actors and choices in how to shoot scenes comes across as positive on screen. He deserves a good amount for the overall package of a movie he was able to put together. In terms of the actual story and plot, without going into spoilers too much, the story of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America and going after the bad guys, was just really enjoyable, well paced, and just fun to watch. The love story between Peggy Carter and Captain America was subtle, didn't seem forced, and flowed really well into the overall plot of the film. The fight scenes were well shot. Never was the camera too tight on the action, which was a problem in the other Avengers movie this summer, Thor. And the final fight of the movie, was great to sit through and see it develop, awesome build up and great payoff, including some possible foreshadowing for The Avengers, maybe???Sure there are a few issues with the film but I'd have to go into spoilers to explain them and I don't feel like ruining the movie for others who maybe reading this who haven't seen it yet. So go see Captain America: The First Avenger and then start the countdown to May 4, 2012 when this series of Marvel films finally will payoff and The Avengers will kick off what will hopefully the best movie summer in a long time.

Dragonslayer2000 (16 May 2012)

After Steve Rogers receives an experiment on his body that makes him bigger and stronger, he must use his powers to fight the crazy and evil Red Skull; AKA, Johann Schmidt.

This was an excellent movie, very well done. I especially liked thefact that this movie had Captain America as a very good character. Thismovie also is good because it shows the first half of the movie well.It explained in a very well done way how Steve Rogers became CaptainAmerica. The rest of the movie is fun and action packed. Everyone whowatches this will enjoy it. Despite the Red Skull's scary looks andevil deeds. I also liked this movie because it didn't completely focuson the violence, like some other super hero movies. Chris Evans andHugo Weaving were both good actors in this motion picture, and they areso good, they will probably keep you in your seat for the entire film. This movie also attracted many people once it came out. The only thingI didn't like about the movie is the ending. Since this is not aspoiler, I will not reveal the ending. Just watch the ending, andyou'll see what I mean. Three cheers for Captain America!!!

Captain America: The First Avenger is a really good old fashioned adventure movie that will certainly entertain audiences and please fanboys

Sigh. Another superhero movie this summer? This will have been thefourth major superhero movie this summer and by this point most of usare tired of it. The only shot Captain America has this summer is doingsomething different than its other competition by giving us anexperience we haven't seen this summer. Luckily Captain America doesjust that. The movie is a period film set in the 1940s that also triesto feel like the serials that were popular at the time. The movie has avery old school feel to it which separates it from its competition, butcan its retro style really make it one of the better films of thesummer?Check out the rest at http://mastersfilmreview.wordpress.com

Surprisingly dull

Based on the comic book. In the 1940s Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) isdeemed unfit for military service being too small and frail. He takespart in an experiment that makes him tall, ridiculously muscular andpossessing almost superhuman strength. He joins the army and helps thembattle the evil Nazi the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).I heard a lot of good things about this movie and was surprised to seehow dull it was. It takes far too long setting up the back story andCap doesn't show up until 30 minutes in. I don't mind slow movies butthis was deadly dull. The movie drones on and on and moves in fits andstarts. I never got involved in the characters or the story. Alsothere's tons of casual violence but no blood (to get the all importantPG-13 rating). The special effects are good but don't help that much.Evans is OK as Captain America but he comes off as sort of dull. Henever shows any range of emotion. Hayley Atwell walks through her roleas Peggy Carter. She's not a bad actress but she's given nothing towork with. Tommy Lee Jones gives yet another bad performance as an Armycolonel. He can do this part in his sleep--and he does! Weaving sneershis way through his role and plays the Red Skull as a one-dimensionalevil man. Only Dominic Cooper(as Howard Stark) and Sebastian Stan (asBucky) give good performances. This isn't the worst comic book movieever (that award goes to "Green Lantern") but it's slow and dull. Igive this a 4.

It's OK but still, this is the best Captain America film we're ever going to get

I was an avid reader of the Captain America comic up until themid-nineties, about the time it seemed to be coming off the rails(about the time he got caught in the meth lab explosion). I think itwas revitalized later and gained popularity as a result (he was savedby a Red Skull blood transfusion? Bucky Barnes resurfaces as a villain, the Winter Soldier! The discovery of a black Captain America from WWII!a Super Hero civil war--culminating in Cap beating up Iron Man(!?) Wow!I dropped off at THE wrong time, apparently). Still, I was delightedthat they were making a gigantic summer movie out of it and gettingfully behind it. Top-notch talent was being put together for theproject with the SFX to go with. The result is what I expected: A huge,action-packed (though it does drag a bit at times) movie that'simmensely entertaining. They really get the character right, as best asa condensed movie version could be expected to. It's amazing how thewriters and director deal with how he becomes Captain America, how hegets his abilities, how he gets his name (he's a propaganda piece, selling war bonds). The costume he uses on his U.S. bond tour is justabout exactly the one from the comic (sans chain mail). Then, whenRogers chances upon real action, his costume is modified for realcombat. There are some bad one-liners in it, which shows that theproduction may have been more rushed than, say, Thor or Iron Man, whichwhere more polished. But overall I found that Joe Johnston (highlyunderrated as a director) finds just the right combination of heart, fantasy, and action here. Time should be good to Captain America: theFirst Avenger.

Good, But Not a Marvel Classic...

I liked it, it was just a matter of time for Marvel release a movieabout a Captain America, and since we're close to watch The Avengers,it had to be done. I'm looking forward for The Avengers and I'm sureit'll be pretty good. Captain America: The First Avenger (By the way, Ihave no idea why did they call it The First Avenger cause Iron Man,Iron Man 2, Hulk, The Incredible Hulk and Thor were all released beforeCaptain American, so it should be called Captain America: The LastAvenger, but whatever...) is just an attempt of an extraordinary movie,I mean, it provides fun and entertainment, it also brings action andsome other good stuff, but it's just not that great and Iron Man is outof its league. I liked Captain American pretty much, it's entertainingand enjoyable, but, I didn't like many things about it, first of all, Ihated the fact that the movie's bad guy is a guy with a red and weirdhead, second of all, I hated that Steve Rogers/Captain America (ChrisEvans) was a weak kid with a very low height and he was always beingbeaten up by people and he was accepted to go to war, one day, he'ssent to try an experience that will give him super abilities, when hetries it, he grows up (on height) and he gets huge muscles and then, right when he owns those powers, something bad happens and all thecertain, he starts running like crazy, throwing things, swimming insidewater to catch a submarine and later, someone asks him something and heresponds "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn", like if he was awesome justcause he got muscles, I mean, how annoying is that? But whatever, despite the fact that it's very flawed, Captain American is a goodsuperhero movie about war and stuff. I liked it's concept, I liked itsconcept and I liked its cast. Here's a simple superhero movie thatentertains and leaves you enjoyed, I don't highly recommend it, but Ido recommend it, it's an okay movie that leads the countdown to thebeginning of The Avengers to its end. Iron Man was fantastic, Iron Man2 was fantastic, Captain America was great, The Incredible Hulk had a7, Thor had a 7, so mash everything and I'm sure not just because ofthat, The Avengers will be a tremendous movie.

PWNYCNY (08 May 2012)

Simple treatment of complex themes

A comic book character should be treated as such. To do more is toredefine the character and create something new, rendering thecharacter unrecognizable. This movie succeeds in maintaining thecharacter's identity. However, the problem with the movie is theshallowness of the story, the utter lack of anything that even remotelyresembles emotional depth and the simplistic treatment of subjects ascomplex as the corruption of science and of war itself. Just because acharacter is out of a comic book does not mean that character should betreated as a caricature. This movie is set during a time of great andmomentous change. That does not mean the movie is poorly crafted, rather it means that their is paucity of content as the director optedto dazzle the audience with special effects to keep the audience'sattention. Now of course the movie tells a story, but in doing so sendsa message suggesting that the U. S. needed superheroes to the war, which is not true. The war as won by regular people who performedheroically, no matter their body type. Nevertheless, the movie isupbeat, the acting is good, the bad guy is sufficiently sinister andfor those reasons the movie is worth watching. Just remember: it'sfiction; not history.

Arthur Banendera (08 May 2012)

Great Action Movie!

There are too many comic book action films that have been coming outbut Captain America is not only the best one, but is also the only onethat I actually liked. Now, some might argue that X-Men: First Classwas fantastic (I am NOT a fan of Thor), but, while not bad, I felt itdidn't reach its potential. As for Captain America, its maindistinction to other summer films is that it doesn't dive right intothe action. I appreciated the time it took to develop its characters, and, gee, there actually seemed to be a story going on here. I alsohave to warn those of you who might expect a straight up action flickto not get your hopes high. Although it didn't bother me, it does takea while before an action scene actually appears.Another distinction that separates itself from other superhero films isthe look of the film, coinciding its setting in 1942. Captain Americalooks and feels like an old-fashion film, and I really embraced it.This is also due to Alan Silvestri's score, which feels more classicthan modern film scores. Our protagonist, Steve Rogers, feels like areal person which adds an emotional weight to the film. We feel for himand want him to succeed in his goal. And once the story is set up andthe action finally comes to play, the action doesn't seem to appear foraction's sake. It actually propels the story. It also doesn't hurthaving a romance brewing between him and Peggy Carter. It was sweet anddidn't feel forced to me.Chris Evans plays the title character and he's great playing both theskinny, average Joe and the buff, all-American hero. He certainly stepsup his performance here compared to his other superhero character,Johnny Storm. He brings a sort of charisma and puppy dog charm to hisrole, and it seems like an automatic response to be on his side when wefirst meet his character. Hayley Atwell is totally believable as hislove interest as well. I would love to see what other things she has tooffer in future roles. With all good superhero films, there must be avillain to match it. In that case, it's not surprising that HugoWeaving doesn't disappoint. Just as the person he is, he can withholdan audience's attention without even trying.

Adam Hindle (07 May 2012)

not good, at all

Not one thing about this movie was good enough to deserve a repeatviewing. Saw it once, shouldn't have really. But I guess I keep hopingthese marvel movies will start to get better. What I liked:What I didn't like: Costumes, Acting (and the terrible German accents),Action was dull, Characters were awkward and unnatural andrelationships were rushed into and forced without much if any detail,Story, Sappy American Patriotism (I could almost handle it inTransformers because well... those movies are well made), The Death ofthe Captains friend (was that supposed to be an emotional moment?),etc...Just bad, and more bad. Not one good moment, from my point of view.Would never watch again.

lovebug777888 (06 May 2012)

A simple and well written movie.

I won't bore you. This movie is good and well written. A simple plot and a humble hero with no flashy powers (he's strong). What makes him great is what made America great...perseverance. Good acting for the most part by Chris Evans and Tommy Lee Jones. One must remember that this is a comic book character and taking it too seriously defeats the purpose of the movie. The script is well written filled with good humor without the cheese. Character development for the most part was done well without boring you to death. Very entertaining to watch.P.S.Save yourself some money and don't bother watching it in 3-D (unless your a fanatic of 3-D). The movie was shot beautifully but sometimes the 3-D effects just get in the way. It wasn't really that vital to the movie and the 3-D effects were not as vital to the movie the was it was in some movies, like Green Lantern. The story itself and the writing sustains this movie.

onedaykim (06 May 2012)

amazing.

let me start off by saying that the first time I saw it, I wasdisappointed. I expected much more action and all that, since it IS asuperhero movie. but after seeing it a few more times, I have come toabsolutely adore this movie. Captain America: TFA doesn't try to be asaction packed as Iron Man. It's just.. different. Chris Evans does anexcellent job at playing Cpt. Steve Rogers and the rest of the castdoes their part extremely well too. not everything is perfect though, they really could of done a better job at the whole "mini" SteveRogers... he just looks silly. other than that, this movie is top notchfun. I cannot wait to see him return in The Avengers!

falynsoul (05 May 2012)

The man to represent America isn't actually a man. He's a man on Viagra for muscles, nothing more.

The characters were thrust into their roles like placeholders in amathematical equation. Their back-stories had little weight. Thisfilm's greatest failure was having the potential to create an awesomeworld of heroic duty to one's country, but instead, created a man whonever grew to become a true man of his country. Rather, he fell back onhis new upgrades and just went straight into the role of CaptainAmerica.I walked out of the theater during the scene when he rides hismotorbike into the camp of the Germans to their underground facility. Asniper could have easily taken him out at any time. A rocket could havetaken him out. A tank could have taken him out. There's no greatstruggle here, just some nice CGI.I didn't see the rest of the film, so I don't know if the movie wasable to redeem itself. I was just so fed up with presented with whatwas supposed to be a man of bravery and courage. It took WilliamWallace (BRAVEHEART) true courage to take on the English. CaptainAmerica has none, because he is untouchable, and therefore, unAmerican. We are the home of the free and the land of the... what? BRAVE.Americans, you should really start to evaluate what you think anAmerican is. I have nothing against pure action movies, but this film Ithink was supposed to represent something more than testosterone-enhanced men running around with the American symbol.

CulturedLad (02 May 2012)

So disappointing... Not a great superhero movie at all!

I'm not a massive superhero movie fan. I don't love comic books, Marvelvs DC is not a topic that can get me debating. I however have beenentertained in more recent years by superhero movies. Iron Man 1 wasquite good, Dark Knight was fantastic (but to be honest that's byChristopher Nolan, I don't classify it as the normal 'popcorn-y'superhero movie. I loved the more recent X-Men: First Class and it wasa very entertaining movie. That's what's essential about a superheromovie. It has to be entertaining. It has to captivate the audience, ithas to enthral the viewer. Captain America tried to do these things andquite frankly failed.Captain America stars Chris Evans playing the titular role but in thebeginning of the story starts with him being known as Steve Rogers.Steve tries to join the army but of course he can't get in because he'stoo short and skinny but kind German professor (played by StanleyTucci) Dr. Abraham Erksine has faith in him. Through various testsSteve shows that he is a loyal and kind person. Now before I continuinggoing into what the plot is about, let me just say that I thought thatthe audience would get a no matter what your size is, you have couragesort of moral but that's what we don't get and what annoys me. Stevesigns up to be in this research project that injects this hard druginto him that gives him height and turns him into a more muscularbuild. So, what bugs me the most is that the guy is really not popularand is made fun of when he's skinny and if you've seen the movie orplan on it you know what I mean when I say this, he uses this thingabout not going dancing because he can't find a partner but he finds apartner in the end because he turns into a guy from a Gucci advert(Chris Evans is a Gucci perfume model). Essentially the message becomesif you become taller and more muscular you can get a dance partner.Once Captain America is 'born' is where the movie starts to trip. Itbecomes really dull. There is no attempt at emotion whatsoever and weget action scene after action scene before a little bit of a story isattempted between the brother character. The plot isn't something thatyou expect to be perfect in a superhero movie but this is prettypathetic. To mention visual effects, the director Joe Johnston has previously wonan Oscar for his work on the final Star Wars movie. They are impressivebut of if they weren't I'd be pretty angry. As for the 3D it'snon-existent and an incredibly pointless post production job.In a superhero movie what is vital for it to work is a good villain, look what made Dark Knight so invisible. Red Skull is completely theopposite and one of the most boring villains I have ever seen.To be honest, I see this as the last instalment of trailers for theAvengers movie which comes out next year. It's pinned as being theultimate superhero movie with all the Marvel characters comingtogether. If you're looking for a superhero movie that will entertainyou I wouldn't recommend it, if you didn't mind Green Lantern thenmaybe this is for you but personally I was really, really disappointedwith this.Read more at my blog at http://www.aculturedlad.wordpress.com

Your a communist if you didn't enjoy this movie

While it might not be Marvels best or most daring film, Captain Americais none the less a well executed film with some good old fashion funthat is a breath of fresh air after the super hero disaster known asGreen Lantern. When they first announced they were planning to make a Captain Americafilm, I personally wasn't every enthusiastic about the idea, especiallywhen i heard that director Joe Johnston would be directing it(Adirector who's had a very mixed bag of results in terms of films he'sdirected in the past.)Also the whole concept behind Captain Americanever struck me as easily adaptable for modern day audiences( the whole"looks good on paper but not on screen" idea came to mind). But as itturned out, like Thor and Iron Man before it, the film took its ratherridiculous concept and made it surprisingly believable. One of the best strengths of the film was actually the setting. makingthe film a period piece set during WW2 really did help make the idea ofa hero who goes around wearing an American flag and a shield morebelievable, mostly because WW2 was a very patriotic time period in UShistory( As well as the fact that Captain America made his comic Bookdebut during that era.) Another strength, which is actually the best part of the film is itscast of Characters. Unlike Green Lantern, Captain Americas cast ofcharacters are all interesting and have a lot of personality and depthto them, and they all fit into the central story line very well. And ofcourse all the actors really carry their parts perfectly. When theyfirst announced that Chris Evans(the guy who played the human torch inThe Fantastic Four.) would be playing Captain America I initially hadmy doubts that he would do the character justice. But as it turns outhe really did a nice job and for the most part carried thefilm(especially in the scenes where he's the weak Steve Rogers.)HayleyAtwell was also surprisingly great as Peggy Carter(and not bad eyecandy either.) She and Chris Evens together had great chemistry, andprobably have one of the most believable relationships out of all theMarvel films. Tommy Lee Jones as always steels the show every scenehe's in. Stanley Tucci also did a great job playing the kind heartedGerman professor who's so likable that you wish he was in the filmmore(and he really maintained that German accent well.), and DominicCooper really made you believe he was Tony Stark's father. Of course ican forget to mention Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull. Whileat times he did feel a little under used, and he and Steve rogers werekind of missing that hero villain emotional rivalry, his character wasstill very interesting to see on screen, and as always Hug Weavingreally played him well(and I must say the makeup effects for him wereactually very convincing.)bottom line every character is like a pieceof a puzzle, and once their all put together they create a great film.Another thing i should mention is the script. One of the biggeststrengths in all Marvel films is their scripts. In this film all thedialog works well and never sounds cheesy, but what makes it work isthe snappy jokes and dialog that the writers put in. UnlikeTransformers 3, the jokes in captain America are funny, quick, don'trelay on shock value, and don't feel out of place or bring the film toa screeching halt every time a character says something funny( D.Cshould really take notes when they start penning their future scripts.)In terms of action and effects, the effects were good and the actionwas fun, but there wasn't a lot that really wowed me like when i firstsaw iron man back in 2008. the action never bored me, but then again itnever really got my heart pumping, in fact the scene where Steve getsthe super solider serum was probably the most intense scene in thefilm. However, what wowed me the most was the way the effects teammanaged to flawlessly make Chris Evans look like a scrawny 90 poundweakling. The effect was so good that i almost forgot that it was aneffect and not just a stand in actor. In the end Captain America might not be one of the most exciting superhero films out there, and the plot might follow a failure path. Butstill when i walked out of the theater I didn't feel ripped off by anymeans. after being forced to endure visually thrilling train wreakslike Green Lantern and Transformers 3, its nice to finally get my dailydose of a good story and great character development. Captain Americahas something for everyone. It will make the comic book fans happy, butat the same time it makes itself believable and assessable enough forany none comic book fan out there to. And in conclusion i recommendthis movie for any person, comic book nerd or not, who's just lookingfor a fun summer film filled with good characters.P.S (SPOILER ALERT) your really going to want to stick around after theend credits,i assure you that you will not be disappointed this timearound
