Great family movie

This film has many funny moments for both children and adults making itenjoyable for not just the children but also for older audiences aswell. The voice acting is well done and also well synced to theanimation. One of the good things about this film is the fact that itdoesn't take itself too seriously, although it does deal with somedrama. Although, several things I didn't like were the amount of detailon the strange yellow minions was well underwhelming. Also by the endof the film the name "Despicable Me" doesn't seem to have muchrelevancy to the story. But, overall it is highly enjoyable and a great3d experience as well. I give this film 8/10 stars. Verdict: 8/10 VeryGood

Best Comedy/3D Cartoon of the Year

This review is from: Despicable Me (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) This movie wasn't promoted much and the previews looked ok, the usual kinds of previews that a lot of times deflate to nothing when you actually see the entire movie. However, this turned out to be a complete surprise. It's a very funny movie, which is extremely well done on all levels - the animation, the voices, the lessons, the pace... everything was done very well. The little minions are so cute - I wanted to buy one or more (unfortunately they movie makers weren't savvy enough this time to produce decent toys - big mistake on their part). The jokes were pretty funny, all throughout the movie. The story was interesting & not exactly predictable. The best thing about this movie was that there was plenty to keep both a kid and an adult interested, laughing & thoroughly enjoying the experience. Can't say the same about too many movies, especially animated ones. Highly recommend this one... I usually don't buy movies, but this one I had to get :)

I looove this movie!!!!

OK seriously. This is now at the top of my animated film list. Ilaughed so much in Despicable Me it was ridiculous. coming from thegirl who hates all this 3D blah, blah, blah - this one has to be seen in3D. I was a little nervous about seeing this one because the overallplot is indeed redundant in use, but I was pleasantly shocked. Grustole my heart from the very beginning. I loved Agnes before I ever sawthe movie. The whole thing just works. My family and I are huuuge moviebuffs. If we like a film, we'll quote it from here to kingdom come. Ifwe dislike it, your simply mentioning it is reason enough for you to bekicked out of the room. My niece & nephew (both of whom are over 18)and I were quoting almost the entire movie right after we saw it.Definitely one for the DVD collection. I loooove this movie!!!!

3d test

This review is from: Despicable Me (Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD) (Blu-ray) This movie worked the best yet, viewed from 3.7 feet from asus 24" 3d monitor with 260.99 drivers. The presentation had mostly depth in the movie as is common; However, this one had the most forward projection I've seen in a film yet(comparing to cloudy with meatballs and monstars vs aliens). Its a good story and enjoyable for old as well as young viewers. If you had a 3d tv and you had only 35 dollers to buy a 3d bluray I think this film would be a great starter film.

Cute, Funny, Poignant, AWESOME!

I saw this movie by myself when I was on a day trip. I expected a run-of-the-mill animated movie. I was so pleasantly surprised when this movie turned out to be absolutely adorable! It's funny, the characters are so loveable, every single one, especially those little girls! I returned and immediately took my husband to see it and he really liked it as well. I can't put in enough stars for this little gem of an animated movie!

Better than Toy Story 3

This review is from: Despicable Me (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This was the first movie that myself and my twin 5-year-old boys laughed at equally. The adult humor is excellent and subtle at times that you really need to pay attention. We just saw Tangled in the theater and one of my boy's said "mommy this is a good movie, but it is not as funny as Despicable Me." My children ask daily when we are getting a copy of the movie and I told them we have to wait and see if Santa brings it for them. This movie was not hyped as much as Toy Story 3 which I did not like nearly as much.

Absolute waste of time

This review is from: Despicable Me (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) Maybe I do not have a good sense of humor but this movie was such a waste of time - the actual plot is just absolutely stupid as well as most of the jokes used in the movie

Still laughing the next day

This may be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. As many have already said, it isn't Pixar and it won't change the world, but if you want a good laugh don't miss it. Pay the extra for the 3D as well. The finale still has me laughing a day later.Don't leave before the rolling credits either. You'll miss some Minion action.

Movie is Great!! But where's my digital copy ??

My family and I absolutely love this movie. The Minions, IMO, are the stars of this film. But the 3 little girls are quite adorable. My only real issue is i purchased the "Despicable Me (Minion Madness DVD Double Pack + Digital Copy) (DVD)". Per all the instructions, no Digital copy transfer comes from either of the 2 DVDs. This package did not come with the actual "Digital Copy DVD", but the packaging states "Digital Copy". I emailed Universal support but after 2 days, no response.

Warm, funny 3D animation movie

This review is from: Despicable Me (Minion Madness DVD Double Pack) (DVD) What's not to like? A very enjoyable movie. The extra features are worth what amounted to a small difference in price.

Despicable When Compared to Toy Story 3

A.O. Scott, journalist of The New York Times, said "while there'snothing to hate, there's not much to remember" about Despicable Me andhe's 100% correct. While Best Buy does have a special app forSmartphones and iPhones for this (will state what it does and is at theend) called "Best Buy Movie Mode" which is something I can pretty soonseeing all movies have at one point, this film is still just a poorcopy of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Surely Universal Pictures did agreat job animating it and it really looks like the equivalent to amuch more recent (and better) film, Toy Story 3. But still, it has theability for animation, but it doesn't have the fun and morals that arepacked in a Pixar film.To sum it up, after a pyramid is stolen in Egypt, we are introduced toGru (Steve Carell) who is the second best super-villain in the world, right behind Vector (Jason Segel), who stole the pyramid. To fightback, Gru then develops a plan to shrink the moon which he believeswill make him the best super-villain. After Vector steals his shrinkray which was to make Gru able to shrink the moon to pocket size, headopts three girls; Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith, and Agnes to sellcookies to Vector for Gru to be able to take his shrink ray back andcontinue with his plans. Gru is also armed with thousands of yellow oneand two eyed minions. They are the cutest and best thing by far aboutthe movie. Though their English is below average and some words you canunderstand, but most you cannot, which is where the app comes in.The cute Minions make up the entire film.Best Buy Movie Mode was created so when you "enter Movie Mode" on yourphone when directed by the screen itself, your phone will sync themovie and when the credits come your phone will vibrate (no confusionsince the app disables your ringer) and it will subtitle what thelittle yellow fellows are saying. Its kind of cool, and since I was theonly one in the entire theater laughing at the screen when everyonejust watched trying to understand them, I felt like I knew more thanthey did (when I did).Still, it would make more sense if the app buzzed and dubbed what theMinions were saying throughout the movie rather than just at the end.But it was just as equally impressive. I was worried about starting itto early because I thought if I started it during the previews, thephone (which is a Motorola Droid) would think its the beginning andstart dubbing when the credits weren't there yet. But the phone syncsit with the film which is almost amazing. Ahh, technology. But the movie itself, wasn't great. Below good, mediocre is the word. The film is a first degree knockoff of The Grinch and next to nothingis memorable. Ill remember the app (which isn't in the movie, so itdoesn't count) and Ill remember the Minions. But the Minions are likethe penguins in Madagascar. Their the best part, they deserve their ownfilm, instead you are boring us with a back story and basicallyshielding the good parts away. At least Madagascar still holds up withjokes and doesn't let the secondary characters put on a one (or onethousand) man show. Many kids will love this, but when compared to Snow White and the SevenDwarfs, Fantasia 2000, Pinocchio, and most recently Toy Story 3. Thefilm just doesn't do it. Take Toy Story 3. The art in that is not onlythe animation, but the fun the film has. It takes your imagination on awhole new route reintroducing characters that have grown like us. A.O.Scott says its like "art and junk". Which it rightfully is. Besides thegreat voice work (mainly from Carell and Cosgrove) and good animation, the film is just despicably fair. With Voice Talents of: Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, JulieAndrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, andElsie Fisher. Directed by: Pierre Coffin.

Clever 3D Funny movie

Despicable Me's teasers and trailers seemed to represent a fewdifferent movies, and that's reflected by the general segregation ofcomedy styles that the film begins with. At the film's start, Gru(Steve Carrell) handles the dark comedy, the trio of orphans get thecutesy comedy, and the minions handle the slapstick. As the filmprogresses, though, these lines begin to blur, building to a strongemotional finale and a satisfyingly complete tale. (This is one ofthose rare non-Pixar animated films that doesn't seem destined forsequel-Dom.) The tale of rival villains isn't terribly original. Nor isthe idea of a villain having his heart melted by adorable children. Butthe way Despicable Me blends these two ideas is just fantastic. There'shumor, action, and heart -- what more could you want from an animatedfilm? Also notable is the way the star-studded voice cast handles theircharacters. While there are a ton of big names filling out the roster, most of them use accents which render them familiar but not too muchso. It's a different route than many animated films take, and it'srefreshing. Julie Andrews and Steve Carrell especially do well atstraddling the line between their trademark voices and theircharacters' accents. The voice that steals the movie, however, is theadorable Elsie Fisher as Agnes. Almost every line gets either a laughor an "Aw..." (On a related note, I love that the orphan girls arenamed Edith, Margo, and Agnes. I love old names for young people.) Theplot has enough twists and turns to keep things interesting, and theantics of the minions provide a nice side of fun to the proceedings. Also, their reaching contest during the credits is a fun use of 3-Dthat had the kids in the theater reaching for the screen.Last year was a banner year for animation, and this year seems to befollowing suit. How to Train Your Dragon amazed, Toy Story 3 is one ofthe best animated films of all time, and Despicable Me impresses. Avery pleasant surprise.Evren Buyruk

Despicable See

Since Toy Story 3 is in theatres, it's rather knee-jerk to compareDespicable Me to the animation giant. But you shouldn't. Despicable Medoesn't have the heavy, dark tones of the final Toy Story and, therefore, is probably better suited to smaller children. As with thebest family films, though, adults will love this story as much - if notmore - than their little ones. And here's why. It is incredibly rare to see a single dad portrayed insuch a positive light. While Gru has an admittedly "bad" vocation, there are unbelievably sweet moments between him and the threechildren, probably aided by the juxtaposition of tiny girls to a large,"bad" guy.The nepotistic supporting cast from Saturday Night Live (even JackMcBrayer works for Tina Fey) is fantastic. One pleasant surprise wasfrom Gru's minions: they did not steal the show. Not that theyshould've- the little yellow guys were funny and entertaining, but onewould expect from the previews they would ultimately be the best partof the film... and I'm happy to report that wasn't true.Despicable Me is LOL funny throughout, warm, goofy, and will notdisappoint. I'd say you're a despicable parent if you don't take yourkids to see it immediately.

Despicable

This review is from: Despicable Me (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) I am not a huge fan of this movie. It showed up on the doorstep Christmas Eve so the delivery was awesome. (earlier than stated) DVD in great shape. The case was warped but soon went back to normal shape in the heat of the house. My boys love it so it's great.

What a Delightful Surprise!

This is an animated effort with great characters, lots of action, andsome really touching moments. I had heard so much about it and was setfor disappointment. I actually believe that they actually usedrestraint in the portrayal. Along with "Up" from a previous year, I'veregained some of my admiration for animators (should have thrown in ToyStory 3 as well). It is so nice not to have to deal with the lowestcommon denominator. I actually began to care about people who weren'treally people. The plot is complex and interesting and there is one ofmy favorite themes: redemption. Like "Up," we get to see why thecharacter is the way he is. Human history--wonderful. What I like isthat children will watch this and should be moved. No flatulence, nobutt jokes, just really nice interaction. Also, the female charactersare truly wonderful.

Caught me by surprise

Everything already said has been said. I caught this movie as a secondchoice today as what I wanted to see was not available. I was "aware"of DM but the marketing never intrigued me to make the effort to seeit. Toy Story 3 and Inhception are my 2 favs so far but this gave it agood run for top 2. My vision doesn't allow me to adjust to 3D well andI almost left during the previews. Thank goodness I didn't. Once thefeature started my vision adjusted and thought the beginning sequencewas odd and intriguing. On the visit to the Bank of Evil and you seethe former title of the bank name I thought to myself this just mightbe for me.As I giggled myself silly from scene to scene I caught myself thinkingabout just how funny some of the earlier scenes were and when it wasquiet in the theater I was still giggling. The very odd character storyline yet familiar looking characters blended well from scene to scene. The pleasant surprise reminds me of when I saw the original "jackass"movie. I had never seen the TV show and had a little familiarity withwhat it entailed. My son was too young to see it at the time and he wasin another theater with his buddies watching something I had nointerest in. "Jackass" is simply that in a nutshell, however somethingstruck a chord with me and my screwed up youth. Very stupid, veryfunny, yet highly entertaining. There were times I couldn't catch mybreath from the insanity and i feel that same way with DM. Worth everypenny and a very worthy "Blindside". Looking up the writers anddirectors I'm very impressed with the quality of what some "newbies" tothe biz have given us. I look forward to the future screenings of theirwork.

Light Bulb!

Light Bulb." It took a little time for the light bulb to turn on in"Despicable Me", but when it finally does it actually becomes a goodfilm. The slow start almost ruined it for me but luckily the visualswere good enough to keep me intrigued while the directors Pierre Coffinand Chris Renaud figured out where they were going with the movie. AndI must say when they finally figured things out it completely turnedthe movie around for the better. The movie has an all-star voice cast, but ironically the actors changedtheir voices so much that they are almost unrecognizable. This actuallymakes the characters memorable as themselves and not as the actors whovoice them. Russell Brand who voices Gru's assistant Dr. Nefario iscompletely unrecognizable and I only knew it was him because of thecredits. Even Will Arnett, who I find hilarious because of his deepraspy voice, was barely recognizable as voicing the bank manager Mr.Perkins. Steve Carell almost disappointed me with his vocal performanceof Gru. The Russian accent he used for Gru was just okay and it seemedlike it took him half the movie to get comfortable with the character.Luckily for him the animation of Gru was so good that the characterwould have been funny voiced by anyone.Read full review at FlicksWorthWatching.com

Great Animated Action!

"Despicable Me" is about an aging villain named Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) who is being out done in the evil department by a younger and nerdier villain named Vector (voiced by Jason Segel). Vector was successfully stolen the great pyramid in Egypt, so Gru decides to out do Vector by pulling off the ultimate heist with the help of his minion army - stealing the moon! When Gru's plans are derailed by Vector stealing the shrink gun that Gru needs to steal the moon, Gru comes up with an evil plan to adopt three orphaned sisters to help him break into Vector's house to get back the shrink gun. But it's Gru who needs help once the girls move into his evil laboratory and take over the place and his life. This is a great movie with lots of action, tons of laughs and touching moments. Gru's despicable actions are over the top funny and the minions are delightful. Gru's transformation from "Super Bad" to "Super Dad" is both charming and laughable. And the animation and music in this movie are great. My son LOVED "Despicable Me" and so did I. My only criticism is that there are not more 3D scenes. But don't walk out of the movie when the credits roll or you will miss some really crazy 3D action that was saved until the end.

One of the best movies of the year
