Dwayne Johnson, to start with He has been one of my few favorites inaction movies. The posture that he imposes is absolutely fascinating. When i read the plot, I thought this movie is not going to be anydifferent from others of same genre, but no, this is very mustdifferent the journey till the end was incredibly fast, no faster, nofastest, yes.Everyone in this movie did justice for their portrayed character and itwas nothing that was over rated in the movie.Rock's whole physical appearance is his best asset and He has carriedit well. This is one good movie you can watch. A story with a revenge plot, whatcould be better than this?

If you're a fan of action movies, this movie absolutely delivers.Strong characters and end to end action scenes are the strengths of this film.I can't see how anyone could not like this movie if they like action thrillers.

toll-8 (21 May 2012)
This movie does not cover anything up. It's called Faster and boy is itfast. It never seems to let up for air, from the frantic opening sceneto the frantic final moment. The film is full of pace and never letsup.'The Rock' plays Driver. An ex-convict who is hell bent on gettingrevenge on the gang who set him up, attempted to kill him and killedhis brother. After the first killing, Cop (Thornton) decides to aid thelead Detective of the case in helping find this killer. To add anotherthread, one of the gang members is fearful that Driver will find him,so hires a hit-man, Killer (Jackson-Cohen), to kill Driver before hegets to him. What pans out is a man killing thugs whilst being pursuedby the law and having near misses with an assassin, who is actuallyonly an assassin for the thrill of it and only charges his clients onedollar. The film sounds simple and is simple but each character holds somebackstory. Driver was part of a gang, set up by a hidden source andalso a man who has struggled to cope with losing his loved one andfamily members. Cop is on the verge of retirement and is involved in abitter divorce with a former co-worker of his and is fighting to be abetter Father to his son. Killer has met the love of his life and vowsto give up the killing game after this job for the sake of his newwife. That is all their internal conflicts but a lot of these all endup intertwining and we don't just get a shoot 'em up action flick butthree characters with deeper meanings than what you see on the surface. This gives the film a bit of heart and a bit of emotional depth tothese characters. The film is very slick. The camera shots move quickly. The editingjumps around all over the place in an attempt to keep up the pace ofthe film. The costumes for each character work and show how each isvery different from the other. The props are flashy, from the cars tothe houses and the driving just gets faster and faster. The filmdelivers some great driving action sequences that really get you on theedge of your seat. Also what the film gives you is a typical hit-man who can't shoot fortoffee. I know he is only paid a lousy dollar but who would hiresomeone if they can't actually do the job. If you can't kill a largeman than you are not a good hit-man. How bigger target does this guywant. There are also several loose ends that are not tied up at the endof the film and the end is rather disappointing and is a complete anticlimax. The acting is erratic. Johnson shows he can play a ruthless killer, whorarely speaks and who is feared by everyone who looks at him but thatis a character we already knew he can play. When he needs to beemotional or deliver key lines, his acting just falls flat and he justbecomes the wrestler he once was. Thornton is good and plays the addictCop well. His scruffiness and sliminess really work for him and hemanages to portray the rough around the edges character well.Jackson-Cohen on the other hand is completely miscast. His Britishaccent does not work with the role and although he looks like thepretty boy killer he is meant to be there is no way that a man like TheRock would ever fear him. He just did not work in that character. The film is very fun and should be seen as a pure entertainment flick. The plot tries to go a little deeper and it does achieve this depthshowing that it is not just an action film but a film with severalthreaded themes  revenge, redemption, forgiveness and growth. Butdon't expect this to lead to a decent ending as I spotted the outcome amile off and although I thought it was clever it failed to be deliveredin an impressive way. Overall it is just a fun film rather than aparticularly good one.

This movie is very similar to Kill Bill in its plot. Nothing that impressive or new here, but it's entertaining enough to get through. You'll get some shoot-out scenes, killings, and car chases.

Now lets be honest, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson probably isn't what comesto mind when you think of a great actor, but this movie is easily oneof his best. He fits the role freakishly well. The cold hearted, unforgiving bad *** that's out for revenge. He pulls it off perfectly. What makes him so successful in this role is all in his face. He hardlytalks at all through out the film, but you can tell how pis*ed off heis just through his calm facial expressions.Billy Bob, as usual, plays the perfect strung out, half conscious lowlife cop that has one last case to solve before retirement. OliverJackson-Cohen was alright, I suppose, as the opposing hit-man.It seems to be underrated on IMDb. This movie kept me on the edge of myseat, cheering for "The Rock" to deal out justice with his trustyrevolver. A must see for any action movie lover.

What to say...This is the first Dwayne Johnson movie I've ever seen. His characterlacked depth...or just plain having character. The film was marketedfor being an action movie...and there was very little of this. Some gunfights, but that's it.Johnson's character in this movie sucked - there was nothing to him, except for revenge and rage. This guy has huge arms and is like6'6...and he can't get into a fist fight? Come on. Maybe Dwayne Johnsonis just a terrible actor...for being a wrestler. I'm not sure. The movie looked like it was going to be awesome, and I was excited tosee what The Rock had in store. I wasn't let down...but my expectationsfor the film weren't met...it was just OK. Nothing to go on my shelf.

I was surprised by this somewhat. I expected a brainless revengethriller. What I got was a nicely crafted caper, a throwback, a homage,to several genre films. The storytelling was straight to the point, almost linear. A vengefuljuggernaut-The Rock-gets out of jail and seeks revenge for his murderedbrother. He's as focused as a laser missile. An eclectic cast ofcharacters are in his way. A strung-out cop out for redemption (BillyBob Thornton), a neurotic hit-man and various unsavory people.I thought this was nice nod to 70s style vengeance driven movies andsomewhat reminiscent of Richard Stark/Donald Westlake's PARKERcharacter (seen, in its most recent incarnation in PAYBACK, starringMEL Gibson: one man seeking revenge against fellow criminals). A manfocused on his mission. The Rock is a cold-blood murder machine.Nothing heroic or even sympathetic about this guy, which makes himfascinating to watch as he runs down his list. This movie doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it is a nice cure for thesugar coated holiday releases flooding our cinemas. A nice balance ofviolence, solid acting and some great music provided by THE HEAVY.

I'm not gonna write to much, since this piece doesn't requireexplanation. I thought that Dwayne wont put a good movie to the screen anymore. After Walking Tall i didn't saw to much from him.But this film lives up to The Rocks looks. It is really a good actionmovie. And it has a rather simple but really good plot! Nothing fancy, nothing to extraordinary but that is why it is so good. Dwayne is a really good actor but many rolls aren't fit form him. Forexample smiling. He did it in Witch mountain. He shouldn't have. It wasmore creepy then anything else in that movie. But this? THIS is his territory. Angry. Strong. Bad ass. Awesome. It is straight forward, action packed and to the point. Dwayne doesn'thesitate as a half witted killer would. And that's is why he is great. So go watch it. You will have a great time!

SLIDER'S REVIEW: Faster is an Action Crime & Drama film Directed by George Tillman Jr.(same guy that brought us Barbershop & Notorious). This film is aboutan ex con who comes out of prison and goes on a murdering spree toavenge his brother's death after being double crossed during a heistyears ago. It's starring Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, CarlaGugino, Moon Bloodgood, Oliver Jackson-Cohen & Maggie Grace.#FACT: The Director has never made a film in this Genre before. This is another film that had the potential of being even greater thanit already was but then gets let down by the muddled up screen play &faint dialogue. The script itself is very well thought out it just getsa little complicated near to the end. The best thing about it was thetwist of who did it.My complaint: This is meant to be an action film so whys there not muchphysical action going on? Shooting guns & car chases are not enough tocarry a film like this. The scenes where I expected a blowout fightscene I got like 10% of that. (Put down the guns and use your fists, break something without using bullets, for once).Dwayne Johnson takes lead role and captures the role of the "Driver"very well. He was cooking something dark when he put this one together(looks like he's left the Disney films for a while). Many ex wrestlerhave tried their hand in acting but don't do very well, The Rockhowever is an exception. (If you smell OK I won't do it) He looks likea killing machine with that mean looking handgun. His emotionsdisplayed are heartfelt and believable I could tell he put a lot intothis character. Haven't praised him I must complain when I say We canall see he's extremely fit with his physique so, why does he walkaround in the film looking like a human robot. To put it plain andsimple he just wasn't physical enough. (Did he forget he used to be awrestler?) I remember Dwayne Johnson in Walking Tall, 2004. I thinkthat was one his best films because it showed his all-round abilitiesof being an action man.I didn't like the character of the "Killer" (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) hejust wasn't right for the job. He should have been playing someone'ssidekick. He's an average actor. The "Cop" (Billy Bob Thornton) does agreat job as a man of the law. He was great to watch on screen. #Overall: Good Story with Teasing Entertainment.
Spacelamb (12 May 2012)
Faster is a shameless bait-&-switch. It opens with The Rock pacing backand forth in his prison cell. It's his release day, and the wardengives him a lecture before he leaves. The Rock replies with a pithyone-liner (best line in the movie, BTW) and walks out to start 90minutes of bloody head-kicking. He wants revenge on the gang that puthim away, thank God, and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.Unfortunately, the team behind the camera don't like dirty hands andthey're not shy about letting the audience know it. At first we'reshown a couple of efficient pay-back scenes, which is great because Ihired an action movie, not a sermon. Guns, some blood, villains gettingtheir comeuppance, all good. Then the pace slows to a crawl and we getscene after scene of the characters fretting about their ethics. "Oh,am I doing the right thing? What about my precious soul? Tell my sonI'm sorry." It goes on and on. Then The Rock renounces violence andbecomes a pastry chef at a children's hospital. (Not really, but atleast that would have been funny.) I felt like Milhouse, desperatelywanting Poochie to get to the fireworks factory already. This movie hassuch delusions of grandeur. George Tillman Jr. seems to think he'smaking a new Heat or Godfather. It looks great, and Billy Bob Thorntonand Carla Gugino are so good in it that I suspect they thought theywere in a different movie, but it's the sort of rubbish stupid peoplethink is 'deep'. Not worth a rental, maybe worth watching onfree-to-air TV.

Film Watchin Fool (07 May 2012)
Watch this if...you enjoy fast paced action/drama movies that havetwists and turns. I was pleasantly surprised with this film and wouldrecommend to anyone looking for a good action/drama.Acting/Casting: 7* - The Rock doesn't say much in this movie, which isa good thing. He can do what he does best, look and be intimidating.Billy Bob plays a washed up detective, which is also a good thing. Heplays a washed individual very well anytime he plays the part. Thesupporting cast is solid as well.Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 7* - This movie has a real nicefeel and flow, which is a credit to its directing and technicalaspects. There is a great car chase scene and the cinematographythroughout is nice as well.Plot/Characters: 7* - Your typical revenge story with some twists andturns. After being released from prison, the Rock is out to get anyonethat had a role in his brother's death and his near death. The extremecharacters raise this score a bit as I think they really add to thestory and plot.Entertainment Value: 7* - I really enjoyed this film and found it to besurprisingly better than I expected. I plan to purchase it soon and Iwould recommend to anyone who inquired about it.My Score: 7+7+7+7 = 28/4 = 7.0
DarkVulcan29 (05 May 2012)
It may come off sounding like an action movie, but it's clearly not, itis a dark revenge thriller.Dwayne Johnson plays an ex-con who just got out of prison, and is eagerto get revenge on the men who killed his brother and left him for deadyears ago, after he and his brother pulled off a bank job, and wherefound out by another gang. And he is dead set on revenge, and he willstop at nothing. But soon two cops(Billy Bob Thornton and Carla Gugino)slowly start coming on his trail, so does a hit man, we wonder how willthis end? Not a bad, but not a great movie either. Dwayne Johnson has proved tobe a descent actor, and his performance here is pretty memorable, notplaying this bad ass of a character has annoying one dimensional. BillyBob Thornton and Carla Gugino are memorable also. But Hit Man characterreally started to lose his point of the story. The film started outwell paced, but it went to slow and boring as it went on. But I didlike it because it was not predicable. But I still say this is a rentit.

How this movie has a score of 7 on IMDb is obviously the result of anumber of producers from the film giving it the highest score possiblein a lame attempt to market this piece of crap. This is a tactic usedall to much on this site. I felt obligated to give this movie a truereview so anyone who was thinking of wasting there money on this couldget an honest overview. Firstly any movie that contains an ex wrestleris going to be crap, honestly name me one! with the exception of JohnCarpenters Them. Plus it markets itself as a fast paced action moviealthough any of the action scenes (if you can call them that) consistof the rock just driving from one target to the next then shooting themin the head. About halfway through the movie tries to turn into somekind of mystery but for a movie of this typical Hollywood action cheesethe so called twist is so incredibly predictable that it fails on thataccount as well. There is also an absolutely ludicrous sub plotinvolving some sort of computer whizz hit man who likes to challengehimself. Idd have to give this movie a rating of 4 however ill give ita 1 on IMDb to try and lower its overall score of 7 as much aspossible. This is a movie made buy spuds for spuds. Steer Clear!!!!!!!
(04 May 2012)
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has no real name in this movie, just his occupation: Driver. Similarly, Billy Bob Thornton is "Cop." That must have been difficult to come up with. A completely unnecessary third-wheel-subplot is present, showing off a millionaire software developer assassin who has mastered yoga (seriously) and gets to shag Maggie Grace - whose role as hot girlfriend is so pointless it should have been uncredited - is hardly worth mentioning. After being released from prison, Driver jumps in the car set up by a P.I. acquaintance of his, drives to a local telemarketing office, and sprays some nerd's brain matter on the back of his cubicle. If there is a better way to get me on the side of a guy embarking on a cross-country, revenge-filled murdering spree - which is tracked by Cop and his partner Cop with Breasts (Carla Gugino) - then I don't know of it; because everyone hates telemarketers. Through flashbacks we learn that Driver's brother (and crew) were involved in a bank heist and later murdered for their score. Up next: Death Wish Johnson!Flaws in character development abound, as very little is learned about Driver, but a ton of time is spent on Billy Bob's failed marriage, portly kid, and drug problem. Each of the characters is transparently established as flawed, and the certainty of their eventual revelation makes tomorrow's sunrise doubtful. The cinematography and limited special effects are both unremarkable. Acting-wise, this film has the gusto of a professional cast already reading their next script; it never reaches the crescendo of expected excitement. Evidently two decent car chases and a few head shots just wasn't enough to get the cast fully enthralled either. I will say, however, that Johnson definitely steps outside his comfort zone, displaying what appeared to be genuine vulnerability to pair with already mastered anger. While disappointing, Faster is nonetheless in my beloved "Death Wish," screw with me and I'll kill everyone you know, category. So, for that, it gets extra points. Besides all that, I'm for any opportunity that keeps the Rock out of family films or a fairy costume.Jason Elin

I was thinking errr its another Rock movie but its better than that andwhile it's not perfect but was very enjoyable! Dwayne didn't say manywords but he was very emotional and right for the job. The story has a form of complexity that you just would not expect whenyou look at the cover of the movie and to me it really is let down withthe naming and marketing. It is a dark movie and very violent and probably a big surprise to manythat it is not just a simple shot em up type of movie. Billy BobThornton was simply brilliant and the movie has tad of Natural BornKillers feel to it, so if you like that kind of style then it is wortha look. While it wont be a classic as many ideas have been done before but itdoes have a touch of class that makes you overcome these issues and itis worth a watch just on the music alone. George Tillman Jr has comealong way with this movie but is still learning his trade.

7 of 10 in its genre. And the genre is "Friday night popcorn movies".Don't seek for revelations, don't try to find real acting masterpieces.See in this movie the deal it brings - no brainier action for the time, when you need it. Dwayne has mastered "Don't mess with me" expression. And if you evenconsider seeing this movie, you will like it. The movie has low amountof awkward "why-did-this-happen" moments and enough of "let-me-rewind"ones. So, it's the perfect deal - you will get what you want if youlook for simple, honest action movie.P.S. Oh, The Rock, please stay in this genre! We need real actionheroes!

They used to show this kind of movie at the drive-in. Didn't need to think or take you away from more important back seat activity. But you would pay attention when the noise got loud. Good for what it is.
