All in all, quite an impressive piece of work.

After seeing the PATHETIC From Dusk Til Dawn 2, wasn't expecting much ,but I was pleasantly surprised. I won't spoil the movie for anyone butthis story (which is actually the prequel to the excellent originalFrom Dusk Til Dawn) is well written and well directed. Great productionvalues, very interesting characters, decent plot, ASTONISHING actionsequences. And WHAT A CAST! Michael Parks is amazing as Ambrose Bierce, TemuraMorrison is terrifying as the Hangman--and then you've got MarcoLeonardi, Sonya Braga, Rebecca Gayheart, and Orlando Jones! All in all, quite an impressive piece of work.

Not as good as the first...but a hell of a lot better then the second!!!

After Watching From Dusk Till Dawn, i fell in love with the movie. Icouldn't wait till the sequels came out! I didn't even mind the fact thatthey where being released to video, because the first one was so great, theycouldnt possibly screw up! That was until i saw From Dusk Till Dawn 2: TexasBlood Money. There where only a few entertaining parts in that film, andwhen i saw a few...i truley mean it! I thought they wouldnt even release thethird installment after how horrible the second one was. But luckily theydid! Hangmans Daughter is a far superior film compared to the Texas BloodMoney. Sure this film does not surpass its original, but i will amdit for asequel it is a good film. The cinematography is amazing, and the charactersare well acted. I think the story is very entertaining, and explains thingsabout the first film, which i thought was interesting! Its just the way thisfilm shot, that makes it diffrent from the first and especially the second! And definatly as one person stated Rodriquze really did have his hands onthis film! Some of the style does remind you of his earlierwork! All in all, a good film, that doesn't surpass the first...but as a film onits own its a good film, with style!Rent it if you have some spare time! But just make sure you like From DuskTill Dawn, or you might not enjoy this film as much!

the return

ok so the series has a better beginning but this film redeems what was lost from the second chapter. i actually watched this one and quite enjoyed the setting and the story behind it. again the director lets us down but the cast is likable and the story isn't that bad. in a way it treads the same as number one with the set up but the worst part is that it never joins number one at the top. still bad but worthy of a night in, guess what? you don't even have to see number two to know what's going on. one saving factor no doubt, trust me im doing you a favour

Much better than the second one

The third installment of the From Dusk Till Dawn series is much better thanthe second one. Although it is still not as good as the original. Theoriginal being a good movie as far as bad movies go.There was little character developement in this movie, and the plot was abit confused. The action sequences worked well however. Also the onlyannoying camera work in this movie was the tendency towards being overlydark as opposed to the numerous cam shots in the second one (see reviews ofFrom Dusk Till Dawn 2).Oh, there were also some plot gaps, such as how do they know to stab thevampires through the heart to kill them, when the term vampire is neverused?

Mixing the West with Vampires

Blockbuster's clerk gave me the disk for #3 instead of the first withGeorgeClooney, but I decided to watch it.I was disappointed that this western was actually a vampire movie, a genreI've never found interesting. Shame on me for not carefully reading thejacket cover to discover this before renting. However, knowing this, Iwillnot want to see Clooney in #1.

"Any last words?"

The Story: Mexico, 1914. Johnny Madrid, an outlaw about to be hanged, escapes with the help of a stranger, taking with him the hangman'sdaughter. With the hangman after him, Madrid joins up with his saviour,a female outlaw wannabe who he later leaves to hang. All thecharacters, including Ambrose Bierce, a writer who is in Mexico to joinPancho Villa, meet up in a saloon in the middle of nowhere. Attacked byvampires, the group puts aside their differences in order to fight thevampires."Any last words?" This is the third film in the "From Dusk Till Dawn"trilogy. The original was a success although, from a story point ofview, it disappointed. A combination of two films that did not fittogether, the first half was a rather flat getaway flick with no wit, while the second half was nothing more than an extended barfight thattired quickly. The second film had a better plot but was killed off bypoor writing & an overuse of real crappy camera angles."See you in hell?" While it cannot compare with the original in termsof makeup effects or kinetic action sequences, "The Hangman's Daughter"surpasses it in terms of story. The opening scene, with Madrid escapingthe gallows, defending himself with knives hidden in the tips of hisboots while his hands are tied behind his back, sets the pace prettywell. The characters are well drawn, particularly Michael Park'swriter, a drunk atheist who in real life disappeared in Mexico in 1914.The fight scenes in the later stages are done better than the previousfilms, and are quite believable. The effects, while being slightly onthe cheap side, still look good, save for one very silly (and funny)vampire testicle shot.

A worthy sequel.

My hopes were a little down with the production of From Dusk Til Dawn 2 because of its lack of material. When I finally saw this one, I was very surprised. It was the best western horror film I ever saw. It also had an interesting plot. The story takes place one hundred years ago, which was the time when the infamous bar started. It begins with a young man who is sentenced to die. The hangman is interrupted from his work by his daughter, so he also has her to die. Fortunately, they escape on a high octane bloody chase of cat and mouse. They meet strange people on the way, and they join them to reach their destination. Meanwhile, two yuppies are headig out somewhere until they are interrupted by a man who is after the two who were sentenced to die. The two lose their ride and are forced to walk to the nearest place. The days go by and it gets hotter and hotter. They finally reach a bar that also rents out rooms. They decide to sleep there overnight. The husband wonders off and finds private rooms full of beautiful women. He is eventually pulled into their spell of lust, adultery, and vampirism. His wife begins to worry, and she wonders off herself. When she does find him, she is shocked at what she sees. The two on the run also find their way to the bar. As the man is having a drink, he is looks around to see a fist fight. The fight turns brutal, and it ends in a death. The vampires smell the blood, and they begin to act fast. What happens next is the routine gratuitous violence and gore. The two sides meet, and they have to work together before they are the next ones to be vampires. With the help the hangman, the yuppies, and others, they fight for their lives that seem to be in danger. Although it may seem like the normal vampire movies that have come out, it isn't. The movie is not all about vampires. It is actually about how the whole thing began. Half of the movie is about a normal western town in which two criminals are on the run, which may turn some away from it. The other half is action packed and has explicit vampire violence and gore. This movie may have a lot of violence, but is also has some scenes of sexuality. As the first, the movie conatined the traditional extensive nudity and sexuality. However, this movie contained some scenes which people may call offensive and crude. The cast was very well done. They combined some of the best actors and actresses for one movie. They read their parts very well. They had emotion in them and they were read loud and clear. There was no sign of dullness in it. The settings and special effects were incredible also. The makers of this film had to do a lot of work to make the oustanding background and excellent special effects. The makeup and vampires were done very well. They look very scary and has hardly been done by anyone. The movie may not have contained any humor like some of the others had, but it was still entertaining. The other were sort of tongue in cheek, so you could expect the natural dark humor and violence mixed together. This movie was not tongue in cheek at all. It contained serious roles and a serious script. I would also recommend the original From Dusk til Dawn. It was also entertaining. Ii did not have the best background, but it was funnier, gorier, and more action packed. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to see a worthy sequel to the 1996 hit.

You have no idea what you have unleashed.

This film starts off with action reminiscent of Sergio Leone'sspaghetti westerns. It takes place 100 years before From Dusk to Dawn. The battle in the beginning is exciting, but the film soon bogs down totedium until they arrive at their destination - a Catina similar to thefirst film, where they find our old pal Danny Trejo. The bar scene is much better that DTD and the action gets hot and heavyas Esmeralda/Santanico Pandemonium (Ara Celi) comes home.Michael Parks stars as Ambrose Bierce, who was a real writer who reallyjoined Pancho Villa's army and disappeared in Mexico. Maybe he wentback to the Catina and joined the vampires. The film also stars Marco Leonardi and Rebecca Gayheart.Lots of exciting makeup, special effects and gore at the end.

Half-decent sequel

Having suffered through the abysmal "From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas BloodMoney" my expectations were extremely low for this movie. Thus I wasmildlysurprised to find a diverting, enjoyable little sequel that - while belowthe original - stands up well enough as a sequel.Like all good sequels, "The Hangman's Daughter" expands upon the mythosintroduced in the first. In this case we're treated to learning a bit more(but not much) about the origins of the first movies' Titty Twister bar.Italso re-uses some concepts from the original - namely a bunch ofdisparate, not wholesome, characters thrown together, and creating a movie of twohalves (this time a western which becomes a horror). The plot is fairly simple but at least there *is* a plot, which is a stepabove a fair amount of sequel movies. The plot goes out the window oncethevampires appear on screen, but then we're in action/gore mode and so itdoesn't matter quite so much. Certainly the two Rodriguez brothers make ahalf decent Western story to lead into the vampire element. They also haveanice enough vein of black humour that has permeated theseries. The characters are fairly thinly drawn, but they are at leastdistinguishable. None are particularly likable but since their deaths arealmost fore-ordained, this doesn't matter too much. And, as none of theactors are putting in any truly worthy performances, I can live withit. There's nothing particularly brilliant about this movie. The direction isfine, without doing anything noticeable. The story is there as much as itneeds to be. The action is perfectly enjoyable, and the gore is certainlyvisible. As a sequel it serves up much of what I'd expect and it's all abitof fun. 5.5/10

Slightly Better Than The Sequel

It took me a while to decide when I would rent FDTD3, and when I did I alsopicked up "Carrie 2:The Rage." Both movies took a long time to get startedwith the story and once they did, it was hard to keep track with what wasgoing on unless I really sat down and just watched it. I have seen FDTD2which tried to copy it's illustrious predecessor, but this one took a longtime getting into the origin of Santanico Pandemonium. Ara Celi is no SalmaHayek; she's very attractive, but she doesn't have Salma's sheer smolderingsexuality. I've never considered Rebecca Gayheart very attractive either, but she does pull off a very scary and blood-curdling vampire persona withthose wierded-out psycho eyes of her's. Michael Parks is a convincingAmbrose Bierce, but I was expecting this movie to explain the circumstancesof his disappearance into Mexico. Sonia Braga is barely recognizable underthe vampire make-up (Night of the Demons also over did it with unnecessarymasks), but I couldn't stand the fact that Sonia was supposed to be themother of Esmerelda/Ara Celli; vampires are not supposed to be able toprocreate !The Old West meets Vampires though is a lot better here than inthe movie "Jesse James Meets Dracula" from the Fifties; in fact, that movieshould have been more like this one. While this prequel isn't as good as theoriginal, I do think it's better than the moth-eaten sequel. I give it aseven.

Kiss of the Vampire Woman

After I anticipated that this movie would be like Children Of TheCorn3 (or 4, 5 or 6), I was pleasantly surprised. From Dusk Till Dawn 3 isactually a pretty fun movie, with lots of gore, hot women, vampires, baaddoodes and gunfights. You can say that the Rodriguez brothers took this movie and created theequivalent of a Mexican soap opera with bloodsuckers. As well, Sonia Braga plays the mother of all vampires. Another title wouldbe "The Story of Santanica Pandemonium".Reasonably low budget, loads of spiteful fun.

"You have no idea what you have unleashed...."

This one is simple. If you saw and liked the original "From Dusk Till Dawn" then you are going to like "From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter." Even better, if you did not like "From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money," you will find this one more to your taste . In fact, you can skip the first direct to video sequel in favor of this film and not miss a thing because this second sequel is actually a prequel. The bad news is that what makes this one succeed might spell the end of the series, because, after all, how many times can you draw water from the same well? Therefore, we may well be at the end of the Aztec/Mexican Vampire Bloodbath movies."From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter" is set during the Mexican Revolution, tied to that period of history by the presence of Ambrose Bierce (Parks), American newspaper columnist, satirist, essayist, short-story writer, and novelist, an enigmatic figure who disappeared south of the border and is presumed to have died during the siege of Ojinega in January 1914. Bierce is in Mexico to bring something of great value to Pancho Villa, but he is also ill and has something of a death wish.At the other end of the spectrum is the outlaw Johnny Madrid (Marco Leonardi, "Like Water for Chocolate") who not only escapes from the hangman (Temuera Morrison, "Six Days, Seven Nights"), but the takes the hangman's sensuous daughter Esmeralda (Ara Celi) away with him. Madrid and Bierce first meet up when the outlaw's gang robs the stagecoach on which the writer is riding to join Villa (there is something to be said for having a blind man ride shotgun on a stage). But they meet again after the hold up when Bierce and a young newlywed missionary couple, Mary and John Newlie (Rebecca Gayheart and Lennie Loftin), end up that night seeking shelter at the combination bar and bordello that we recall from the first film (Danny Trejo is still behind the bar as Razor Charlie). Meanwhile, the hangman is still on the trail of his daughter. Eventually, wackiness ensues. The film returns to the essence of the original, which finds a ground of humans forced by dire circumstances to band together against a horde of bloodsucking fiends. The first time around the scene was set in a Mexican biker bar. This time around it is essentially the wild, wild west, even if it is still early in the 20th century. The movie has a touch of class with Sonia Braga as Quixtla, the proprietress of the establishment, although the Bierce character also brings some dignity and ironic wit to the proceedings. Orlando Jones even plays it essentially straight in his role as an Andalusian brush peddler in the wrong place at the wrong time. The script is by Álvaro Rodríguez, based on a story he co-wrote with original director Roberto Rodríguez. Director P.J. Pesce ("Body Waves") does not have the cinematic flair of Roberto Rodriguez, but then who does? The main thing is that he treats the first half of the film seriously as we deal with the possible romance between the outlaw and the hangman's daughter, the stagecoach robbery, and Bierce's deathwish. Then it becomes party time in the bar and all hell breaks loose. The special effects are over the top, but intentionally so; they are just part of the menu. The last half of the movie is simply a question of going along for the ride and waiting to see who makes it out of there alive. Actually, I think "From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter" might be more enjoyable than the original. It is more of a classic horror film without the "Pulp Fiction" sensibilities that writer Quentin Tarantino brought to the table the first time around (with the exception of this film's "dance number"). As always when it comes to such films, whether we are talking Tarantino or vampires, it comes down to questions of taste. Either way, this film deserved better than the fate of being direct to video.

Not Half Bad At All

Whether the notion of mixing two genres, such as western and horror isstrange or welcome, it does sound like a challenge. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN3,etc. succeeds in weaving an interesting, outlandish and humorous tale. It's not very scary, but is an entertaining form of escapism. The characterdevelopment is minimum at best; so it's not exactly engrossing. The leads, Marco Leonardi (LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE), Michael Parks andTemuera Morrison seem to be enjoying themselves, and are adequate. Thisfilm is pretty much a chauvinistic actioner - female actresses herein forthe most part are window dressing, with the exception of Rebecca Gayheartand Ara Celi. Of course, to be fair, most westerns lean that way. LennieLoftin is the standout, and he carries the film's most memorable bar brawlscene. Pretty light hearted fare all together, but for direct-to-video, it is topnotch. Excellent rainy day film. Recommended.

(19 April 2012)

an interesting prequel

Even though FDTD3 is not as good as the first, it explains some things about the original movie. Anyone who liked FDTD should see this film. However, I would recommend that viewers watch THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER before watching FROM DUSK TILL DAWN just to have a better understanding of the two movies in general.

Closer to the Original

Everytime I see Michael Parks, I wonder why he wasn't a bigger star in his prime. I had NO expectations from this entry after seeing Part 2, but Hangman's Daughter was not a bad film at all. The vampires and accompanying effects don't arrive until the film's building climax, but leading up to that visit to the Civil War era version of the Tittie Twister, Part 3 is a pretty good western. Obviously shot on a tiny budget, this one does more with less and is worth a look if you liked the original and are willing to forgive the first sequel.

JakeWestern (09 April 2012)

This was actually Part 2 at one time...

But the movie got delayed for some reason. The Santanico prequelelements and the temple connection were suggested at and added afterthe test screening I saw about a year and a half before it hit theshelves. Texas Blood Money got shot and released on video between thattime somehow. Also, the original ending (avail on the DVD) featuredAmbrose as a vamp telling the story to someone in a bar in the presentday. All and all, a competent movie that would have been well served bya few things: a bigger and better-spent budget, more creativeinvolvement by Rodriguez & Tarantino (maybe a switch on the directingand writing credits?), and most of all the single greatest asset theuneven first movie had: Cheech Marin!

AlabamaWorley1971 (07 April 2012)

OK horror gorefest; better than DUSK TILL DAWN 2

Anything HAD to be better than FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 2 (what with bat-camsandskull-cams and all that garbage). This is better, and not a bad rental.Mighty gory. I like the boy that played Johnny Madrid, muycute.

(06 April 2012)

An action packed begining !

Virtually as soon as the film begins, so does the action. The movie starts with an outlaw who at the begining is about to be hanged by the "hangman", but the outlaw escapes with the hangmans daughter and throughout the movie the hangman pursues the outlaw. The main story however is the origin of Princess "Pandomonium"(salma hayek's part in "dusk till dawn") and where all the vampires came from. Overall an action packed vampire film with a great story line that clears a lot up that dusk till dawn 2 did not only being surpased by "dusk till dawn". The DVD has only a deleted scene, but the picture and dolby 5.1 sound is superb!

Been There Before

I guess if you're a fan of the original cleverly planned From Dusk To Dawn, you have interest in seeing where the sequels would go...In the case of "Texas Blood Money",a low-budget,poorly conceived movie...absolutely nowhere! But as was the case with prior Blockbuster sequels sometimes it takes a 3rd try to get it right...The best way to describe From Dusk To Dawn 3: Hangman's Daughter is an exact duplicate of the first with the era and the characters changing, otherwise the premise is the same.Like Clooney & Tarantino from the original,It is now Outlaw,Johnny Madrid who is on the run.And instead of the kidnapped family in the Van,It is the Stagecoach passengers who uwittingly enter the famed Bar after their Stagecoach drivers are killed...The Bar is the same with Vampire hosts forming the entertainment.Instead of Cheech Marin providing the "hawker" role,You now have a Stable boy.So what you get with "Hangman's Daughter" is a basically a rehash of the original and when you get done watching it,You feel you're "been there, done that".Is it entertaining? Yes,Graphic Special Effects,Lots Of Action & Suspense. It's certainly watchable and certainly entertaining. If you keep your expectations realistic. The Acting is passable. The Characters are likeable.Temuera Morrison will make you forget Salma Hayek in a moment. All in all,I felt entertained for my "buck" (actually 5) Hopefully the series has now had its run before "watering" it down any further ala "Halloween" or "Friday The 13th.

HumanoidOfFlesh (05 April 2012)

Mindless fun.

"From Dusk Till Dawn 3:The Hangman's Daughter" is actually a prequel to thefirst film, because it explores the origins of Salma Hayek's characterSantanico Pandemonium from the first feature. It's also a big improvementover the disappointing first sequel "Texas Blood Money".The first hour ofthe film plays almost like an European spaghetti western.Great actor MichaelParks gets a lead role as a real life civil war veteran and writer AmbroseBierce.Temeura Morrison is excellent as the nasty hangman. It's nice to see avery beautiful Sonia Braga as a vampire princess Quixtla. The gore isplentiful and suitably nasty(vampires lick blood off the floor, off theirvictims, rip out jugulars, there are decapitations, stabbingsetc.)Unfortunately some CGI effects are quite unconvincing, but "TheHangman's Daughter" is enjoyable enough to watch it few times.Give it alook,if you're a fan of "From Dusk Till Dawn" series.
