Better Than "Texas Blood Money"

A prequel to Robert Rodriguez' great "From Dusk Till Dawn" of 1996,P.J. Pesce's "From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter" of 2000 isan enttertaining, but pretty silly flick and nothing near the original, but a lot better than the earlier sequel "From Dusk Till Dawn 2: TexasBlood Money".The story takes place in Mexico of the early 20th century (I guessaround 1913), where the American writer and civil war veteran AmbroseBierce (Michael Parks) has come to join Pancho Villa's revolutionarytroops. While waiting for a stagecoach in a small Mexican town, Biercewitnesses bandit leader Johnny Madrid's escape from the gallows. WhenMadrid (Marco Leonardi) flees to the desert, he takes the hangman'sbeautiful daughter Esmeralda (Ara Celi) along with him. The infuriatedhangman (Tamuera Morrison), of course, doesn't hesitate to track hisarch enemy and his daughter, who wants to get away from her strictfather and his severe methods. Bierce, Madrid and the hangman who isafter him are all going into the same direction. What they don't knowis that the bar/whorehouse, where they are about to take a rest in themiddle of the desert is run by folks of the rather bloodthirsty kind."The Hangman's Daughter" resembles the original a lot more than thefirst sequel "Texas Blood Money", which had little to do with theRodriguez/Tarantino film. Although it does in no way share the qualityof "From Dusk Till Dawn", this movie is actually an acceptable prequelto he original. It is obvious that the whorehouse in the desert is thefuture 'Titty Twister', only almost a century earlier. The acting isnowhere near the original either, but again, the movie performances area lot better than those in "Texas Blood Money". Michael Parks plays thelead very good, Marco Leonardi and Tamuera Morrison are believableenough in their roles and Rebecca Gayheart and Ara Celi are eye candy. The cast furthermore contains Danny Trejo, who was in "From Dusk TillDawn" as well as in "Texas Blood Money". The amount of violence andgore is once again pretty high, and keeps the viewer entertained. All things considered, "The Hangman's Daughter" is certainly not aworhy sequel to "From Dusk Till Dawn", but certainly a lot better than"Texas Blood Money" and and overall entertaining, if you keep yourexpectations low.

Hey, At Least It Was Better Than the Second...

This movie was not good at all, but at least it was better than the previous one. The acting was mediocre, the visuals were even worse than the second one, and it was just boring. The entire movie was boring, predictable, and plain. I suggest you only see this if you really want to, because this is a snore fest.

(14 June 2013)

how it all began

this is more or less a prequel to the original that starred George Clooney & Quentin Tarritino, it appears to be set 100 years before that one, what we see is a newer titty twister without those neon signs, no roads, no trucks,no motorcycles, just horses and a western setting that is pretty much the backdrop of this installment, like the original it has a series of comical moments that really in hindsight have nothing to do with what is to come, it to also gets off to a slow start, the characters here is an outlaw who has fled with hangman's daughter, who like Clooney & Tarintino wind up at the twister seeking refuge only to discover that it is inhabited by vampires, the hangman who is played by "JANGO FETT" himself actor Temura Morrison.pursuses them, once he arrives, the fun begins, you realize he has been here before, actor Danny Trejo once again returns as the i guess you could say the younger bartender, who begins the killings, babe Rebecca Gayheart is also on hand as a unwilling partisipant, there seems to be shades of matrix-style fighting that is played for laughs, once you accept this as a prelude to the original, you won't be dissappointed.

Basically a remake of the first film, set in the old west. But still rocks!

In this supposed prequel (actually more of a remake of the first film)outlaw Johnny Madrid has escaped the Hangman (TEMEURA MORRISON) takingthe Hangman's sensuous daughter Esmerelda along with him. Rejoining hisold gang, they are approached by a wannabe outlaw (a young girl) whowants to join their pact & who wants Johnny to take her under his wing& teach her how to be a legend. She not only saved Johnny from hanging, but also assisted in his escape & also informs them of a stage coachcarrying a man, who has something of great value. Hijacking the coach, they discover that the man AMBROSE BEARCE is the object of great value(much to their dismay) & he is not alone, as he is joined by twotravelling ministers of the gospel (one played by REBECCA GAYHEART)leaving them behind, Ambrose & his cohorts & then later Johnny & hisgang, find themselves at a bar they never knew existed, one that isoddly out in the middle of nowhere in a desert. Inside they decide towind down for the night, but soon discover the patrons that work there, are really bloodthirsty vampires! & when the Hangman & his team arrivelooking for Johnny & his men & attempting to reclaim his daughter, rather than taking down Johnny & his men & rather than Johnny's formerhostages attempting to run from him, all three groups find themselvesbanning together to try & save their own lives, when the creaturesattack, but all parties soon realize that Esmerlda, the hangman'sdaughter & the one accompanying Johnny, has a terrifying connection tothe creatures. Can Johnny, the hangman, Ambrose & the rest of theirrespective groups make it out alive? or will their blood be on tapbefore dawn? I really enjoyed the FROM DUSK TILL DAWN series, they wereall in my eyes, very good, fun, sexy & exciting, action packed horroropuses with great characters, tons of blood & some pretty cool monstereffects & THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER does not disappoint in either ofthese. Rather than moving the plot forward, the film manages to go backin time & I thought setting all the carnage against an old west backdrop really made the film fresh & very exciting. The old west is aperfect setting for a vampire film & Once again exciting action setpieces & stunts were at the fore. The monster make-up was pretty cool. The blood & guts flowed freely & the characters were just asinteresting as ever before. That said, as I have already stated in myreview, the film is really nothing more than a remake of the firstfilm, with the outlaws on the run, taking hostages & then findingthemselves at the dreaded Titty Twister, home to the worlds mostvicious vampires. In fact, many scenes here are taken form the firstfilm almost verbatim! & yet while this could so easily have weighed thefilm down, the truth is, the film manages to be wickedly fun & at timesfunny. I thought Esmerelda's story was very interesting & although theactress playing the part doesn't display that almost commandingsexiness & fun, Salma Hayek bright to the first film, she manages tofare well in the role. Highly recommended to fans. THE HANGMAN'SDAUGHTER is & was, the perfect way to close off what is perhaps themost fun & exciting trilogy ever made!***1/2 stars

Basically FROM DUSK TILL DAWN refilmed, as its OWN prequel!

I am in agreement with most everyone else here, that following the patheticdirectoral mess that was FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 2: TEXAS BLOOD MONEY, gearingup for this was an exercise fraught with rare trepidation! That it was better was of little surprise - the AMOUNT by which it wasbetter, was staggering. Obviously very hands-on as far as Rodriguez wasconcerned, with strong comparative threads to EL MARIACHI running throughthe first half. Michael Parks, the ill-fated Texas Ranger in FDTD (theoriginal) makes for an anti-hero of sorts in this PREQUEL to the originaltale. Excellent script, terrific cinematography and way better FX elevatethis flick...not up to the lofty heights of the first, I'll be quick toadmit, but up to where it would like to be.Running a near identical dramatic thread to the original, a bunch ofdisparate mexican cowboys find themselves once again inside the TittyTwister at quite the wrong time. The film performs a 360 degree turn likeits earlier predecessor, lurching from a straight western to a vampire flickin the space of 5 minutes. Danny Trejo plays the Titty Twister's residentvampiric bartender for the third time (The ONLY cast member to appear in allthree films). In a nice twist, this flick also shows how SantanicoPandemonium came to be who and where she was in the first film - the partthen being filled by Salma Hayek.Well worth seeing.

An action packed begining !

Virtually as soon as the film begins, so does the action. The movie starts with an outlaw who at the begining is about to be hanged by the "hangman", but the outlaw escapes with the hangmans daughter and throughout the movie the hangman pursues the outlaw. The main story however is the origin of Princess "Pandomonium"(salma hayek's part in "dusk till dawn") and where all the vampires came from. Overall an action packed vampire film with a great story line that clears a lot up that dusk till dawn 2 did not only being surpased by "dusk till dawn". The DVD has only a deleted scene, but the picture and dolby 5.1 sound is superb!

All in all, quite an impressive piece of work.

After seeing the PATHETIC From Dusk Til Dawn 2, wasn't expecting much ,but I was pleasantly surprised. I won't spoil the movie for anyone butthis story (which is actually the prequel to the excellent originalFrom Dusk Til Dawn) is well written and well directed. Great productionvalues, very interesting characters, decent plot, ASTONISHING actionsequences. And WHAT A CAST! Michael Parks is amazing as Ambrose Bierce, TemuraMorrison is terrifying as the Hangman--and then you've got MarcoLeonardi, Sonya Braga, Rebecca Gayheart, and Orlando Jones! All in all, quite an impressive piece of work.

batrich (10 June 2013)

Just as good if not better than the original.

I rented this flick with fairly low expectations but in the end I waspleasantly suprised. Traditionaly these straight-to-video flicks usuallysuck but in this case I thought the movie was probably better than theoriginal. While this movie was not perfect it had cool sets, good acting, good story, lots of action, and great characters. I would give this *** outof ****.

Not bad... 30 times better then texas blood money.

From dusk till dawn3: the hangman's daughter, is much better then it's last movie in the franchise.this movie is a prequel of from dusk till dawn 1.it starts in the time of the Pancho villa mexican revolution. The movie has a bit the same action magic then From dusk till dawn 1.Starts with awsome mexican ass kicking scenes, then turns to complete horror. But the first movie, is still kicking ass, rather then From dusk till dawn 2 and 3.If you only like action movies, don't watch this because the story turns to complete horror and massacre, just like in from dusk till dawn 1.The story is not bad, but it is almost the same thing as the first movie. This movie is ok. It is not worst then texas blood money, thats for sure!

b_stal_n5 (31 May 2013)

Terrific,even better than the original.

This terrific film is one of the greatest movies of all time.I watched thefirst one and it became my favorite movie.I watched the second and it didthe same. Then I watched this spectacular work and now this is myfavorite. This masterpiece is well worth your time and money.I highlyrecommend it.

Great prequel, loads better than the previous

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 3: THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER (2000) cast: MarcoLeonardi, Michael Parks, Ara Celi, Temuera Morrison, Rebecca Gayheart,Lennie Loftin, Sonia Braga, Orlando Jones, Danny Trejo, Jordana Spiro.plot: Dangerous outlaw Johnny Madrid (Marco Leonardi) cheats death atthe hands of the Hangman (Temuera Morrison) and escapes along with theHangman's beautiful daughter Esmerelda (Ara Celi). As they fall madlyin love with each other, they team with Ambrose Bierce (Michael Parks)who is an author planning on joining the army, a Christian couple(Rebecca Gayheart, Lennie Loftin) and a wanna-be female outlaw (JordanaSpiro) and take refuge in a whore-house/inn. Once there, they discoverthat the whores are actually vampires, and the Queen (Sonia Braga)realizes that Esmerelda, a half-vampire, is prophecised to become theVampire Princess Santanico Pandemonium.the good: This prequel mixes action-filled western with Gothic horrorand the result is great. The main and side characters are all developedand the vampires look a lot cooler. My favorite characters were Johnny and Bierce, they felt very real.I also enjoyed the many battle scenes which are right on par with theones in the original and boat-loads better then the ones in the secondone. One more thing I loved is that it showed the birth of PrincessSantanico Pandemonium, who was played by Salma Hayek in the original, she was a very mysterious character who had lots of presence, andseeing her birth was great.the bad: Nothing, really.9/10

WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BRUSHES

This is the prequel to the series that takes place in the 19th century. Freethinking brandy loving Ambrose Bierce (Michael Parks) is traveling with two evangelists (Lennie Loftin, Rebecca Gayheart). He hopes to join up with Pancho Villa. He meets along the way a group of outlaws lead by Johnny Madrid (Marco Leonardi) and the abused Esmeralda (Ara Celi), the hangman's daughter. After 40 minutes of introducing and establishing characters, they all end up at a desert inn where we meet our favorite bar tender, Danny Trejo. At this point, anyone who has seen the first film knows that a blood orgy will ensue and it is just a matter of the outcome. This production is better than the first sequel, but doesn't measure up to original. The dialouge contained some minor clever lines and on a whole a disappointment. The script suffers from attempting to imitate the first film using less quality stars and writers. My recommendation is to buy it as part of a multi-film DVD.F-bomb, sex, nudity. 3 1/2 stars.

Good Rebound From Previous Film

From Dusk Till Dawn 3 (1999) ** 1/2 (out of 4) After the pretty mediocre part two, the third film in the seriesstrikes back in a very entertaining way and serves as a prequelcentering on how Santanico Pandemonium (played by Salma Hayek in theoriginal) became a vampire. As Santanico and her bandit boyfriendarrive at a strange brothel, they're also joined by Civil War vetAmbrose Bierce (Michael Parks) and other characters who are soonbattling vampires. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 3 is certainly a step in theright direction after the previous film, which was disappointing to saythe least. I thought this one here was quite rare for a sequel/prequelin that it actually has a brain and tries to do something ratherclever. For the most part I think the film succeeds mainly becausedirector P.J. Pearce does such a nice job with the screenplay by AlvaroRodriguez. The screenplay comes up with a very good story and Iespecially liked the Western elements that take up 2/3rds of the film.I thought these scenes were very authentic and the director does agreat job at building up an atmosphere. Most low budget films have ahard time making you believe they take place in the past but thatwasn't the case here. The performances were also quite good with Parksleading the way in his bit. He's actually so good that I wish he hadbeen given even more screen time. I also enjoyed Rebecca Gayheart,Danny Trejo and Temuera Morrison in their roles. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 3doesn't have the budget for as many special effects as the first filmbut I thought what they did have was put to good use and what they werelacking the filmmakers made up with it through some clever tricks. Thefilm certainly isn't perfect or going to be considered a masterpiecebut fans of the original should enjoy it.

Distressing

Yes, From Dusk Till Dawn 3 is distressing. Everything about it ishorrible. E-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n- g. There's not one saving grace about thismovie. I hate hate hate hate hate it. Sometimes on IMDb, ratings aren'tas high or as low as they should be. I'm panic-stricken that From DuskTill Dawn 2, which, even though it's pretty bad, is still a head andshoulders above this nightmare, gets a 3.5 and this monstrosity gets a4.7!!! Yes, I care that much about that slight difference in alreadypoor ratings. Most of you probably already expect the script to be terrible. Thisscript is extra-terrible. The main reason why is because of howincredibly unlikable Marco Leonardi's character is. No, I am not one tolook down upon movies for moral deprivation of any kind. I love a goodheist movie, con movie, hit man movie, a movie where it turns out thatthe bad guy gets away with everything, etc. Ask anybody who knows me. Iactually find every villain at least twice as interesting as any hero.I love villains. But there's a line, even still, even to someone likeme, who hardly cares. In From Dusk Till Dawn, the Gecko brothers wereno boy scouts, even counting their admirable traits. But see, there'sthe thing. There was the element of charm in these two that made uscare whether Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, and Howard Cho escapedwithout the brothers or the brothers escaped with them. We wanted themto survive. In From Dusk Till Dawn 2, the basic making of adirect-to-video bloody-bank-heist-gone-awry flick makes its charactersout to be dirty, scuzzy outlaws. Fine. They're outlaws. That's nothingto make us specifically want them to be killed by vampires for. MarcoLeonardi is possibly the nastiest main character I've ever seen wherethe audience is supposed to shrug off the incredibly nasty things hedoes. he humiliates a fan of his who wants to join his gang by hangingher, letting everyone laugh at her, and then riding off leaving her fordead. There isn't even a reason for this. This is one of a few things. There's not even a sociable bone is his body. He goes out of his way tobe mean and violent. OK, that's a villain. That's like the bad guy inthe heist movie, which is a movie where everyone is bad anyway and thevillain has to be extra-bad where there's something about them that weparticularly don't like. From Dusk Till Dawn 3 gives us one of thosepeople to care about. In all departments, this movie is agonizing. The characters are socheesy aside from Leonardi's, and it doesn't once try to be anythingmore than a movie at the level of a direct- to-video crapfest. Thesecond From Dusk Till Dawn at least showed us some style despite itsdirect-to-video status.Anyway, I hated it.

WorknMan-2 (29 May 2013)

Better than #2, but is that really saying much?

Saying that this movie was better than FDTD2 may be giving it too muchcredit. Since it is generally agreed (by those of us who are sane) that #2pretty much sucked, it really doesn't say much for this third entry of theseries.I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It doesn't come close to the originalthough and I would say it was just 'ok'.The main problem here is that we've seen it all before. You take a group ofpeople who meet by circumstance, stick them in a senario full of vampiresabout halfway through the movie, witness the blood and carnage that takesplace, and then see who comes out alive ... blah blah .. same oldstory. In the original, I was drawn into the movie and the characters and wasinterested to see who survived. That didn't happen with FDTD3. Thecharacters this time around just weren't that involving. Although I likedthe sequences with Madrid, I got bored when the story would switch to Bierceand the married couple. The characters this time around also were not verylikeable at all .. almost all of them were bad guys and the ones thatweren't (with the possible exception of the hangman's daughter) were prettyannoying anyway. And where the characters in the first movie put aside theirdifferences to fight the vampires, the characters in this one fought witheach other til the very end.Since this third installment doesn't really introduce anything new to thestory, I can't understand why it exists. While it's true that you get to seewhat the Titty Twister looked like about 100 years ago and you get to findout the origin of Santanico Pandemonium, it still doesn't justify this oneeven being made.I'd say if you've seen the first two (or even the first one for thatmatter), this one is definitely passable unless you're a hardcore fan of theseries, in which case you've probably already seen this movieanyway.

capkronos (27 May 2013)

Part 3 attempts to combine the western and horror film genres.

Jettisoning logic, coherence and a reasonable story structure for thebasic cheap thrills (blood and boobs) has been the trademark of thisincreasingly banal series from the start, but this one has the conceitof throwing in the character of Ambrose Bierce, author of "AnOccurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," who also, in real-life, disappearedsomewhere in Mexico never to be found again. Michael Parks does what hecan with it, instilling the character's lines with fun tough-guydelivery, but, unfortunately, the script doesn't even attempt todevelop the character and Parks is given little to do.Like the first two FDTD films, this attempts to cover two differentgenres (this time it's western and horror). Various characters, including some sadistic Mexican outlaws, a hypocritical bible-beatingcouple, Bierce and the title character (who turns out to be halfvampire herself) spend the first half of the movie involved in run-ins,shootings and other boring time-filler, before discovering a bar out inthe middle of the desert...which, of course, ends up being filled withvampires. The "Hangman's Daughter" (who turns out to be the samecharacter that Salma Hayek played in Part 1) is actually daughter ofthe large-breasted vampire queen (Sonia Braga and her mind-bogglingcleavage).In-your-face direction and gratuitous gore take the place of scares andsuspense, but the plentiful FX (by KNB) make this OK time filler forthe undemanding. Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were theexecutive producers.

Grant Cantrill (27 May 2013)

A worthy successor to the original.

This movie is a thoroughly enjoyable sequel (or more accurately, prequel)tothe original. If "From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money" hasn't turnedyou off of the series then check this movie out! It's full of the sameover-the-top violence and gore that made the original so enjoyable. The'knife' scene is definitely a moment to behold in this film. If you wereatall entertained by the original, then this is a must see!

Not one vampire seen for one hour!

From Dusk till dawn 3.First watch, i love the first movie, i did not like the sequel too muchat all but this movie is a Little bit of a mix bag,For the first hour of the movie, it felt like Western movie with nohorror elements in the movie at all,I found the those scenes very dull and boring. I was really bored withmost of the this movie and i all most turn it off after 45mins of themovie but stuck with it The movie did pick up in the last half hour of the movie. That when it went all horror and action really starts and don't stopuntil end of the movie, there were some decent gory effect in thismovie, which i really liked. The make up effect were really good as well and made some of thevampires look scary and there were one or two funny moment in thismovie that laugh at a little.I going to give this movie 5 out of 10
