This is one of the best musicals of all time, as it's an absoluteclassic, with wonderful songs, and brilliant performances!. All thecharacters are wonderful, and the story is fantastic, plus JohnTravolta and Olivia Newton-John are simply amazing in this. I can'tbelieve this only has a 6.8 rating, as it should be much higher in myopinion, and I thought the ending was really cool, as OliviaNewton-John looked so incredibly sexy, plus her and Travolta hadwonderful chemistry together. There are so many classic songs in thisone, that it's not even funny, and it's extremely well made and writtenas well, plus it's also very funny as well. The opening with Olivia andJohn Travolta at the beach is just wonderful, and it had some classicdialog as well, plus Stockard Channing is brilliant as Rizzo the Pinkladies leader!. This is seriously way too underrated as far as i'mconcerned, and it's one of the best musicals I have ever seen, plus theending is just wonderful, as everything about it was just great, as italso ended with a bang, with 2 classic songs!.This along with Saturday Night Fever, pushed Travolta to stardom, andOlivia Newton John's singing just blew me away, plus Travolta wassurprisingly good as well at it. There are so many classic characters, and I especially enjoyed the car race, near the end, as it was reallycool, plus it also has one of the best soundtracks ever in my opinion!.The whole T-Bird gang was just great as was the Pink ladies, plus thebeauty school drop out song with Frenchy was awesome. This hasn't datedat all in my opinion, and I say this should be on IMDb's top 250. I amseriously shocked that 991 people voted this a 1, and I thought thatall the characters were extremely likable, plus, while I'm not a hugefan of musicals, I absolutely love this movie. This is one of the bestmusicals of all time, as it's an absolute classic, with wonderful songsand brilliant performances, and if you haven't seen it, please do soimmediately you shouldn't regret it.The Direction is outstanding!. Randal Kleiser does an outstanding! jobhere, with wonderful camera work, keeping the film at an extremely fastpace, and just making everything perfect. The Acting is brilliant!. John Travolta is amazing as always and isamazing here, he is extremely likable, charming, hilarious, a goodsinger, had fantastic chemistry with Olivia, had a wicked hairdo, wasobviously enjoying himself, and gives one of the most classicperformances in my opinion, he was amazing! (Travolta Rules!!!!!!).Olivia Newton-John is incredibly gorgeous, and is amazing here, she isextremely likable, absolutely adorable, incredibly likable, sweet, andher sudden change in character at the end really shocked me, but it wasdone just perfectly, as she looked so incredibly sexy, she also givesone of the most classic performances(Olivia Rules!!!!). StockardChanning is cute, and is wonderful, as the tough chick in the Pinkladies group, she was likable, funny, and also created a classiccharacter, I loved her!. Jeff Conaway and the rest of the T-Birds, areall awesome. Didi Conn is excellent as Frenchie, she was really cute, and had an awesome voice, I loved her as well. Rest of the cast arefine.Overall this is a true classic plain and simple, and if you haven'tseen it please do so immediately, you shouldn't regret it!. ***** outof 5

How such a mediocre movie like "Grease" can be considered a classic andloved by so many people is beyond me.Sure, everybody's got their own tastes and I respect that, butseriously what's so special about this movie? For me, this is nothingmore than a mediocre movie full of cheap humor and bad messages. Howcan this be still such a hit after all these years?? The best thingabout this movie is the brilliant soundtrack. The songs are classics, not the movie. Songs such as "Greased Lightning", "Sandy", "You're TheOne That I Want", "Summer Nights" and the opening song are great andtimeless, not the movie.Apart the music, there are very little good things about this movie. For example: the romantic beginning with Danny Zuko and Sandy on abeach during the sunset time, exchanging love promises. What else? The original opening credits (with bizarre cartoons and acool song), the "drive-in" sequence and every part with those wonderfulsongs. The characters are, most of them, annoying. The T-Birds are the mostirritating characters of the movie, except Danny Zuko (the only T-Birdwho isn't annoying). About the girl characters, only Sandy isn'tannoying. Of all the things that anger me in this movie, what angers memost is its dirty humor which is absolutely irritating... not tomention about the "message" of it.Plus, one of the things that made me cringe most is that the women inthe movie say that «All men are rats» and then they say something evenworst «They're the fleas of rats». I am a guy and I find that anextremely offensive and insulting observation. That is not a nice thingto say.The ending is somehow too childish, surreal and ridiculous. What wasthe point of putting a car flying?? Not to mention incredibly long...after too much nonsense, that's when the flying car comes.John Travolta is great as Danny Zuko and so is Olivia Newton-John inthe role of Sandy Olsen.Overall, it is a movie to forget and it doesn't deserve all theattention it gets. Anyway, this is just my opinion. I don't want to getinto fights because of this...

I remember this movie really causing a sensation when it was released in1978. I saw it at the drive-in in 1998 on the big screen for it's 20thanniversary release. It's a cute '70s interpretation of the '50s, which wasfun to watch back in 1978, and just seems to get better as time goes by. Everything from the songs to the '50s fashions, and the little sexualinnuendos throughout, make this film memorable and endearing. I am glad tosee that it is available on DVD, but even if you opt to go for the VHSversion, this movie will not disappoint. The VHS version is mastered from adigital transfer, so it looks great! If you like musicals, with a fun plotthrown in, then "Grease" is really the word!

Clunky kitsch quality that makes Grease such a perpetual joy.

....it's got groove and something else, not important for now.Danny Zuko iscool. John Travolta is semi-cool. What is the final product of these twothings? Well....Grease. I was about to say Battlefield Earth, but no.Grease. The timeless classic of our time and a great launching pad for atleast 20 of the finest actors today.9/10 just because Grease is the word that you heard it's got groove it'sgotmeaning.

I guess if you like the whole nonsensical feeling of musicals and theblandwhite bread humor of Americas Funniest videos you would probably likethismovie too... Personally, I hate musicals (except for the BluesBrothers).Thank God that John Travolta learned how to act later in his career. Iguess this is supposed to be a classic, but I have never been able tostandit. Horrible over the top acting broken up by ridiculous song and dancenumbers... UGH!!!

I don't know if it's only my purchase of Grease but it seems that there is a problem with this new edition of Grease. It may seem to be the manufacturing defect! I watched the "Rydell Sing-Along" feature from the "Special Feature" menu. All the songs' lyrics on screen seems to create lines and pixels onto the TV screen within a few seconds when they start singing. I mean, the movie ran smoothly but the Sing-along is my main complaint.I exchanged a copy of it for the same one and still had the same problem! Most of the lyrics jumbled around in the screen at the same time as my previous copy of Grease! I bought it from Best Buy and was wondering if all stores will carry the defective DVD kind. This is just a heads up to all those out there that own a copy of Grease: Rockin' Rydell Edition. The movie for me gets 5 stars, and have no opinion on the old version since I have not seen it myself. The main complaint is the manufacturing process of the dvd........and perhaps I wish the deleted scenes were in color.

Grease is the coolest musical I have ever seen. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John were the "thing" back in the 1970s. Grease has great songs, fabulous choreography, and solid acting. My favorite songs are Summer Nights, Hopelessy Devoted to you, and You're the one that I want. I seen this movie about a million times, never gets old and boring. Defintely get this movie on widescreen, looks better. If you enjoy a musical here and there, make sure you add Grease to your retro-cool collection, Grease is the word!

It's nostalgic to recall how good a dancer Travolta was, and it's sad to think of what could have been had not a few missteps sidetracked his career.

Why THIS? Why is THIS, of all musicals, so popular? And why was THIS film re-released all over the world - in mainstream cinemasthat were unwilling to touch even "Apocaypse Now Redux", no less - ratherthan some other musical of the 1970s? (I presume "Grease" appeals primarilyto people for whom cinematic history begins in the 1970s, otherwise thequestion of why not some other musical becomes even more perplexing.) Whynot "Scrooge"? "Fiddler on the Roof"? "Jesus Christ Superstar"? "The Slipperand the Rose"? I'll admit I haven't seen those last two, but that's partlythe point - I'd LIKE to see them, whereas "Grease" is the kind of thing Iwatch either because of a compulsive behaviour disorder or out of duty, tosee if this time around I'll get to find out what makes it sopopular. No luck so far. I'll admit it's mediocre, no worse, but it leaves a nastytaste in the mouth. In the course of the whole we-made-it-up-as-we-went-alongnarrative none of the characters, with the possible exception of two of thePink Ladies, demonstrates that he or she has a soul, or any of the standardmechanics that make up a human being: beliefs, desires, passions, and soforth. The shallowness goes beyond the fact that the characters are shallow. The characters aren't even really THERE; the film comes across as a circus,a revue, something to enable the songs to be strung together. Each song, considered by itself, sounds as though it's expressing something (which iswhy the early songs, particularly "Summer Love", work best), but thisusually turns out to have been an illusion. The unpleasant undercurrent ofcruelty is probably accidental. The aggressive barrage of sexual references(it might have come across as playful, but it doesn't) probably isn't,although I'm amused at all the people who pride themselves on being able toplay Freud with "Greased Lightning", almost the only five-minute sequencethat ISN'T sexual.Someone here said, of "Grease", that it dates from the era when people knewhow to make musicals, when the song-and-dance routines exhibited realperforming talent and energy. And so it does; but it comes from the very endof that era. It's the dying gasp. Vey often we can see THAT the performersare energetic, but a sustained display never quite makes it onto the screen.Part of the problem is sonic. The songs, never the best, have beenshockingly recorded; listen to "Sandra Dee" with your eyes shut, and youcan't fail to notice that the words sound thin and the music even thinner, and the voices in "Greased Lightning" (which has been ineptly staged) vanishinto no particular musical texture even if you keep your eyes open and TRYnot to notice.

I was just a teenager when I first saw this movie, I remember lining up for hours just to get a ticket. Now that I have a copy of my own, I get to re-live the energy that I felt all those years ago. This would have to be one of the great big screen musicals of all time. One of those movies that you can watch over and over and still love it as if you were seeing it for the first time. Life is not complete without a copy of this video, can't wait for the DVD version.

i just love this musical! But then, I'm a sucker for musicals, so that maynot tell you much. Grease will have you singing along by the second verse ofnearly every song, and the 'Thunder Road' scene will have you wondering,'Who will win!?!?' (And probably also 'How the heck can they allow people tohave spikes on their tires like that!?!?') To sum it up in a fewwords:'Grease is the word, is the word, that you heard! It's got groove, it's gotmeaning... Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion, Grease is theway we are feeling!'

Okay, if you've never seen "Grease", you really have to ask yourself, "Whyam I surfing on a movie database when I obviously don't watch movies?" "Grease" is one of those movies, like "Wizard of Oz", "Sound of Music" and"Star Wars" that everyone should have to watch before they watch really anyother movies. They should even show them in schools, just as long as theyshow it before the kids realize what "Grease Lightning" is reallyabout.Totally off subject, but do you remember seeing this film as a youngster andloving it, and then you decide to watch it when you turn 16 with a group offriends, and you were shocked about some of the things they say &do?Anyway, back to this review. "Grease" is my favorite musical. (FYI: "LittleShop of Horrors" is a very close second place.) The Top Ten Reasons why I Think GREASE is the Best Musical:10. Grease 2: If it weren't for the popularity of "Grease", we wouldn't have"Grease 2" and I probably wouldn't know who Michelle Pfeifferis.9. The T-Birds: When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, mythree usual answers were "Jedi Knight", "Pittsburgh Steeler" or"T-Bird".8. Olivia Newton-John7. Pink Ladies: As the T-Birds were to me, millions of girls made Pink Ladyjackets and wear them every Halloween.6. Grease Lightning: Who wouldn't want a car like this that promises thestuff it promised?5. Sandy Olsen is HOT!4. Music: From Frankie Valli singing the theme song, to Sha-Na-Na performingcover tunes, the soundtrack is one of the best.3. Lorenzo Lamas: Before he was a "renegade", Lorenzo was Tom Chisum, theultimate jock who's "brains are in his biceps."2. Danny Zuko: John Travolta was ten times cooler as Danny Zuko than he wasas Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever" and Vincent Vega in "Pulp Fiction"combined. And, of course, the number one reason why I love "Grease"......Olivia Newton-John as Sandy Olsen: Olivia is the only woman I'd leave mywife for, especially when she's wearing the cheerleading outfit. I know, alot of guys will say her black outfit at the end is the selling point, butit's the whole innocent factor that I love this woman.Anyway, there you have it. A totally unbiased review of the greatestmusical of our time. Any questions?

If you had to describe this movie in one word it would have to be -fun! There are flaws in the movie but I wouldn't change it one bit! Myfavorite movies are the godfather part 1 and 2, Casablanca, some likeit hot, Chinatown, amercian history x, just to name a few, and some howgrease makes it on the list, I guess growing up on this movie its sohard not to watch every year. ONJ and john travolta are in fine formand are perfect together, the music and dancing (for the most part) aregreat. Grease will always be the word, this movie is fun fun fun! Ihope they NEVER remake this because its so good! Defiently see it igive - 10/10

Wanted a copy of this classic and this one was great. Just what we wanted. Enjoyed it thoroughly and am sharing it with others who had never seen it. Very worth the money spent. Thanks!

Grease has always been and will always be one of my all time favoritemovies. It was the highest grossing movie of 1978 and the mostsuccessful musical ever. Yet it didn't win any Oscars that year.Instead some crappy less popular movie that no one remembers won. Forthe one or two people who have never seen it, here's a summary. Sandyand Danny meet the summer before senior year. Sandy was from Australiaand was supposed to go back. Turns out she was able to spend a year inthe USA going to Rydell High. She meets up with Danny, and he acts likea jerk. They get back together and he acts like a jerk again. They gettogether when they realize how much they mean to each other.
