This is a very good movie and I'm not really a good fan of Harrypotter, but in this movie the directors capture my attention withamazing special effects. Also the history has a lot of comic scenes andthen BAM an action Scene. So I recommended this movie. Also the effectsin 3D are very good. The directors make an excellent decision to dividethis movie in two parts because in the end you will want to see thefinal part. Actually I have to see the other harry potter moviesbecause I don't remember a lot of details of the history, so I have tospend some time to see them. So for all the really fans of harry potteryou are going to enjoy the movie, and for all the people who aren'tfans of harry potter also you are going to enjoy it.

I have nothing but good to say here. For fans, this will tread ground you know well, but in a way that feels new and fresh. The interpersonal dynamic is wonderful here, maturing just as the actors have. The deeply felt and often painful moments are interspersed -- gently and with grace -- by beautiful, tender moments. Hermione and Harry dancing in the tent, at the bleakest of moments, is a wonder to see and is alone worth the price of admission.

Not your usual Harry Potter movie. Many scenes were dark and hard to see. Plot was murky at best. Hope the sequel is much better.

Are you kidding me ???? anyone who has read the books would not have ratted this movie higher then a D-. they said they where going to make this movie in two parts due to the need of being true to the book because it was key to making this the best Potter ever. then we get total made up garbage to start out the movie that never happened in the book. i knew right away that the director had lied. i wish that Chris Columbus would have done this movie instead of David Yates. at least it was more believable when he made the first two movies. they cut way to much stuff from this first movie. and yet managed to make it last over 2 hours. plus when they went anywhere like the ministry of magic they never used the cloak or when they went to Godric's Hallow they had Harry say he wanted to return to where he was born and not use the Poly Juice Potion. umm they went there as two muggle's and under the invisibility cloak in the book. and where was the War Memorial at ? and where was the sign at the home of the Potter's ?? where was Dean at the Malfoy Manor ? and why did they show where Harry talked to Mr. Ollivander and the Griphook ? and the list goes on and on of things that they left out. like the birthday party where Harry got the Mokeskin pouch from Hagrid. Harry befriending Kreacher and giving him the locket. and much more.

The first part of the finale of Harry Potter is upon us and "Epic"seems to be the word the promotions of the film are calling it, andthey may not be wrong.I've enjoyed the previous Harry Potter films, especially the earlierfew, but I really struggled to remember what had happened in the filmsprior to this one, apart from the events in the first two films therest of the films seem like a blur all mashed together. It's fair to say in my opinion the films have gradually got worse forme as they have gone on and I'm not sure if that's to do with megrowing older as they've come out or if they really have been worse, but I was pleasantly surprised that Part One of the final film in theseries does not follow this pattern. The movie begins with everyone in the wizarding world and the realworld not being safe, with Voldermort out to murder anyone who gets inhis way in his attempt to kill Harry Potter. From the moment the film starts Harry, Ron and Hermione are on the runand keep changing locations in order to keep Harry safe and continue intheir quest to find and destroy the Horcruxes, an object used to obtainimmortality, in order to defeat Voldermort, who's powers are growingstronger by the day.Even though the films biggest action moments are only really a lot ofrunning and spells flying at each other, it was definitely one of myfavourite Harry Potter films, a lot better than the last one anyway. It also does a brilliant job of getting you excited for the next andlast instalment of the franchise, which will come out in cinemas nextsummer. There were a few strange parts in the film that I'd like to mention. One bit when Harry and Hermione randomly start dancing to the radio, which was weird enough, but another bit when the Horcrux locket isopened and Voldermort's voice taunts Ron, it creates an illusion ofHarry and Hermione making out naked. I can understand the making outbit to make Ron angry and insecure, but why did they have to be naked.I just thought it was a bit weird and deserved to be mentioned that'sall.Anyway back on subject, if you like the Harry Potter films you shouldlove this film. It's definitely one of my favourites of the sevenmovies so far and I'm eagerly anticipating the eighth and final movieof the Harry Potter series that will be showing in cinemas from 15thJuly 2011.This review is taken fromhttp://www.geoentertainment.co.uk/2010/11/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-part-1-review/

I am a person who grew up watching the entire series and I have lovedevery minute of it. Great for all ages, though the movies past thesecond one can get a bit dark sometimes. I am not a big fan of fantasybut these movies draw me in. I feel as though it has got me intoreading as a child and now that I am grown up I can't help but feelconnected to the story and the characters. The effects are amazing, thestory has everything, romance, action, adventure, fantasy, drama, andso much more. It teaches children to be ambitious and adults to keep abit of fantasy and magic in their lives. This last installment has been just as great as the ones before it, andit brings my imagination out.I will forever love this franchise and ownall of the movies and this story never gets old. I extremely recommendthis series to anyone of all ages and of all preferences.

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Three-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I cant wait for this movie to come out already ahhhhhhhhhhh! lol i thought this was one of the best movies of the series because it follows the books pretty closely. Yes they leave some scenes out but come on they cant put every little scene of the book in the movie. If you want to know everything, read the book but i would say that the movie is awesome!

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (Amazon Instant Video) After the last few movies, I was afraid this one would follow suite and deviate from the book in a few important ways, but I was pleasantly surprised! The storyline is complex, intriguing and most of all, very Harry Potter! I loved the books (and no, I am not a shut-in, a teenager or a crazy person) and Harry Potter 7.1 is a great film adaptation to the book. Yes, it is a dark thriller and yes, there are some violent scenes, but the movie is well-done and it will have you waiting with bated breath for 7.2.

Harry Potter the Deathly Hallows part I is an enjoyable film. Theproduction values are first rate and the 3 main lead actors have reallymatured. To be honest I have never read the books(I'm a little to old to bereading Harry Potter) and I've only seen the first film in thefranchise. This film moved along at a good pace I did not find itboring it did slow down in the middle a bit, but it allowed me tounderstand the characters a little better, and it set up for the 2ndpart quite well.Grade B

I'm not a Harry Potter fan and I've never read the books, but I haveseen all the movies up to now and have been following the unfoldingplot. Bear in mind, this is a review of the movie, not the book.I saw two movies this week, the low budget "Monsters" and the bigbudget Harry Potter sequel, and I'm not sure which one bored me themost. I think I spent more time looking at my watch with Harry Potter. The middle part where they jumped all over the place & spent nights intheir tent could have been greatly shortened. The information I neededto carry me into the finale could have been covered in 15 minutes. Thisdid not need to be a two part movie. This was clearly just dragging itout into two episodes for profit purposes. This was also a very dark & violent movie. Lots of blood, lots ofkilling. I don't have children, but if I did, I wouldn't let them seethis movie.Seeing the current rating of 8.3 at this writing, obviously there aretwo versions of this movie out and my theater was playing the badversion.
VeeSixieme (16 May 2012)
I can't help being very strongly biased about this film; I am a hugefan of J. K. Rowling's original work. I felt so excited about myfavourite story coming to the big screen that, as a true fan (in allthe worst senses of the word), my judgement is impaired in two ways: Iam both over-enthusiastic and extremely difficult to satisfy.Let's be fair: it is a good movie, "good" meaning entertaining. Youdon't want to loose a second of it, and it really feels like a quarterof the actual runtime - but that might also just be my"over-enthusastic" side. The fact that I had watched all of the otherHarry Potter films half a dozen times each in preparation for this one,and also that I knew the Deathly Hallows book almost by heart, made meenjoy immensely this opus, whether it'd be only out of "newness".But, and maybe I am being less subjective here after all, it is not afilm of great quality - nor were we to expect one. The idea ofsplitting the last HP in two is convenient ("Convenient? More likeawesome!"), but this leaves the first part fairly empty in comparisonto, say, the other HP films. Moreover, it has to try to compensate forall of the (plot)holes the other films had left it with. Those whohaven't read the book would therefore find a lot of continuity mistakesthat are difficult to forgive. Although most of the story iswell-elaborated, suspenseful and imaginative, the lines are so muchreduced to basics that you can't help the feeling that the screenplaymust have been revised and rewritten a lot. Yet, we get a few extremelyenjoyable moments - some funny, some sweet - every now and then.As for the acting, well, we're only sorry to see so little of AlanRickman, Helena Bonham Carter, and company. But the main trio's actingskills have improved again, and although I still wouldn't hire them ifI were to make a movie, I have to admit that they do their job allright (at least, as far as Rupert Grint and Emma Watson areconcerned...). Very funny, also, to recognize their manners and mimicsin the three older characters they are supposed to be impersonating. All in all: it's not the book, but it's still magic :)

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Three-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I was under the impression the digital copy would be available via Amazon Instant streaming. I was mistaken, it is just a disk they allow you to install on a device after receiving the shipped product.

I have enjoyed the other Harry Potter movies but this one is VERY dark. OBTW: You can not watch it in daylight! Any light washes out the picture. The sound quality is not very good as well. It is either too low or VERY LOUD.This version is not worth the price even at a 75% discount.I would hope they can re-cut this in the light of day.It appears that success has not been good for the Harry Potter series.
louisekraz (16 May 2012)
This is not a Harry Potter movie. It is a movie that has characterswith the same names and faces but they are in an alternative universe, one created by David Yates starting in movie 5. In that universe, allthe themes and ideas developed in the book-based Harry Potter mythologyare gone. In its place is a story about an individual boy wizard andhis teen friends. What happened to the great choices Harry has to make, like does he go after the Horcruxes as Dumbledore instructed or does heget sidetracked looking for the Deathly Hallows? Horcruxes are thrownin as a McGuffin, an excuse to take a group camping trip rather than asthe key to the whole mystery: how do you destroy evil withoutdestroying yourself. The Hallows are the great temptation that theanimation in this movie beautifully suggests but then they arecompletely ignored for the rest of the movies. Remember that Dumbledoreand Gregorovich once had a notion of "The Greater Good" and that ideadid not die with the end of their friendship. Dumbledore tried to teachHarry that what he was doing was not for himself, it was for thegreater good of all beings, not just pure-bloods, and certainly notjust for teenagers. Okay, did you get any of this from this movie? NO,because it has all been washed out of the story and replaced with sillyteen anxieties and individual relationships. How very sad.

I have read all the Harry Potter books, so I am familiar with the finerpoints of the plot. I am amazed at how people say that the film isfaithful to the book. In my humble point of view, the movie reallymeandered here and there without providing any logical reasons for theactions of characters. OK here come the SPOILERS. The starting was goodwith the music of Desplat setting the tone for the impending darktimes. But all the good work was undone for me with the scene for Harrylooking into the broken mirror. He sees(or thinks he has seen) the faceof Dumbledore and yet he is not even surprised..as if he has beenseeing this every other day, it actually makes him look dumb. It is animportant scene which links to later part of the movie. The chasescenes are pretty good but again, as Hedwig gives away Harry's identity(another departure from book) and Voldemort draws nearer, the spell hiswand casts automatically seems to pass unnoticed by him (I said he'sdumb..well,he's dumber). Boy, he never even asks anyone why did thishappen. Given, he is dumb, is anyone sane enough to advise him to be indisguise during the wedding...apparently not. He just walks in fullview and guess what, nobody's even surprised. I thought they might giveHarry the credit of solving the mystery of RAB to show the brainy sideof him but no, its Ron who just happens to wake up and show his raregenius. The story of Kreacher being used by Voldemort to the cave tohide his horcrux and the change of heart Kreacher had when the triotold him they were completing the unfinished task of Regulus Black wascompletely skipped. I think there was a lot of potential for laughswith the elf beating Mundungus but it too was wasted. Our dumb harryrefuses to have any disguise on their trip to Godric's hollow as wellthough this time Hermione tried to put some saneness into his head butto no avail.(It would be better if Voldemort just kills this loser, heseem to be asking for it!). I was really astonished how far a charactercan be made to look foolish when Harry follows the doe Patronus withoutever wondering who cast it and it may be a trap. But the biggestmystery I am yet to uncover is how those death eaters happened to be atthe same place they disapparated to from Luna's house...they didn'teven utter the tabooed "Voldemort" name.(Surely something to look forin part 2, perhaps?). I dunno why but Bellatrix wont use Cruciatuscurse to torture Hermione but instead carves Mudblood on her arm andwhy did Hermione cry out so loud for this? After all, Harry bore allsuch trash in part 5 without any issues. They skipped the death ofWormtail as well. There really was no conviction and desperation in theway Harry takes out the broken mirror and asks for help. No doubtpeople do not seem to relate it to appearance of Dobby. There was a lotmore missing in the movie but what really disgusts me is the way thedirector took liberty with some very important scenes that were vitalto explaining the forthcoming events. That said, the infiltration into ministry was the scene I enjoyed themost and was well done. The animation of the fairy tale was a pleasantsurprise. The dance scene between Harry and Hermione could have beenskipped in favor of some of the scenes like Dudley saying goodbye toHarry. Really, the time wasted in those beautiful landscapes could haveserved instead in developing the story and characters more fully. Thefilm shines in parts but collectively, it somewhat loses its appeal. Itis neither appealing from cinematic pt. of view nor does it satisfy thereaders of the book. Must watch if you are a Harry potter fan like mebut be warned, you may feel as unsatisfied with it as I did.

Well, Harry and his gang are up to their usual tricks again. Voldemortis officially on the loose and has really started to get back into hisgroove. With Dumbledore dead, he has started solidifying his power, killing off enemies, and trying to find a way to finally kill HarryPotter once and for all. Due to the imminent danger Harry, Ron andHermione are facing, they can no longer stay within the safety ofHogwarts and are forced to go on the run as they search for the elusiveHorcruxes that contain the bits of 'He Who Shall Not Be Named' soulnecessary to defeat him. But how long can they survive against the mostevil and powerful wizards in the world, especially if they can't remaininternally strong? And what will they have to give up to succeed?Having not made it to the books that are the basis for the last fewHarry Potter's, I do not know the details that make up the latter halfof the storyline. That being said that I do know that it is good enoughto have enthralled millions of people with multiple readings, createdone of the most successful film franchises in history and prompted morethan a few fans to attend parties, screenings and book signings in fullcostumed revelry. My question is then, how on EARTH could they havemade such a boring movie with their recent outing. The film starts off strong, aptly showing the physical and mental tollthat this whole ordeal has taken upon our protagonists and theirprotectors. They revisit enough of the previous story so as to allowcasual franchise participants to have a general understanding of whatis going on. There is even an exciting and well CG'd broomstick battlescene which prompted thrilling hopes for the rest of the movie. Insteadthe story devolves into a series of vast landscape shots, broodingscenes between the protagonists meant to demonstrate the newfoundemotional maturity of their characters and honestly, an assload ofpeople just walking around looking as stuff. Not only is it boring, but there are many glaring plot holes that arenever even remotely revisited. At one point, a woman turns into avicious boa constrictor in a house that is implied to likely be filledto the rafters with dead, rotting bodies and it is COMPLETELYdisregarded and unexplained. Did no one who hadn't read the books watchthis film before they released and say "Uh, Hey guys? You think weshould explain the murderous snake lady at all? No? Oh yea, OK. Cool."This brings me to my next point. This movie is not at all for children. One of the opening scenes shows a woman, suspended in midair, beingtortured for a table full of wizards to enjoy, before she begs for herlife and is promptly murdered. Multiple scenes would have scared theliving hell out of my as a child, especially having gone along with thecharacters when they seemed so innocent. Another scene depicts Harryand Hermione, completely naked (although there is strategically placedwizard smoke to cover the most interesting areas), and embracing oneanother in a heavy duty, Spanish lover-esquire kiss. Throughout thefilm, Ron's character is shown to be losing his mind and it is morethan implied that he may very well kill Harry and Hermione in theirsleep. I mean, REALLY? (There is one outrageous scene involving thisidea that garnered my biggest laugh of the movie). Blood, murder, andsex. Harry Potter has moved more into Sin City territory than isrecognizable from the first film. I'm not saying this is a baddeparture, as I do enjoy that they are attempting to engage thecharacters as would be reasonable for their age and the severity of thestoryline, but I'm saddened for the younger children whose parents willallow them to see it just by virtue of the title and will be strickenwith nightmares for months. The other problem is that the film is a robust two and half hours. Thatis a lot of sweeping vista shots of the Cliffs of Dover and theCanadian woodland. Within this time they squeezed every possible dropof melodrama out of the story and the result was a tedious exercise asto how distraught everyone could look while burying a CGI elf. The filmwould be thirty minutes shorter if you just removed 90% of the shots ofthem walking around. A full hour if you include the time they spendstaring at things.Summary:All that being said, the acting isn't bad and the cinematography isquite beautiful. But that's not what people going to see this franchisewant to see. They want to see the crazy semi-familiarity of Hogwartsand it's wonderful tricks, the fantastical devices that our hero's mustemploy to survive and more mother-effing broomstick fights!!!

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) This is a very confusing movie. The first hour is very disjointed, everyone is around but I couldn't figure out why. It is obvious this is just a lead-in to make a two part conclusion of the series. It would have been better to combine Parts 1 & 2 and edit them to make one feature length movie to end the series. You have to have it if you have the rest of the series and the producers know it. Look forward to part 2 of movie 7, not as entertainment but as the end of the series. Finally.

This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (Amazon Instant Video) I read some of the complaints about the video quality, but we had no problem watching the movie through a DSL connection. A higher quality connection like Fios might have been 1080p, but we got 720 and it was very good. To me, this is the most powerful film of the series and I'm eager to see the final one.
itaint right! (09 May 2012)
OKay. So I get that the film is not a blow by blow of the book- I get it, already. But the screen writer and the director has missed the mark in this installment. To my point- this adaption convinced the esteemed Roger Ebert that Harry and Hermoine have fallen in love. How the heck did that happen, you may ask. Well they choose to leave out exposition from the book that sets the record straight. We know that Harry is not in love with Hermoine because he tells Ron that he has always loved Hermoine like a sister And that she cried every night all night missing Ron after Ron left them, which she does not do in this film.Harry and Ron have a very frank and revealing discussion about their relationship with Hermoine after Ron saves Harry from the lake and destroys the locket. But even I noticed that they were trying to keep us on the fence over the Harry Hermoine Ron trio for a longer time in this film. Its like the director was channeling George Lucas and confused our heroes with Luke, Leia and Han Solo. Also the way Ron reacted to Hermoine's torture at the hands of Belatrix was way understated- in the book he was unconsolably disraught and when they escaped he disarmed belatrix ,scooped up Hermoinea and immediately apparated with her- it did not happen this way in the film. We know that Ron and Hermoine are in love with each other. This film should not have confused the issue any longer. They even screwed up Dobby's burial!I hope they do a better job on the last half. WE know where everyone stands by the end and we know who dies and how and we know who was heroic-We know Ron is a hero as is Neville-dont screw it up! Every action that is taken and every exposition that drives the plot is important.I wish they would have chosen a different director and writer.

This is a terrible movie: it does not stand alone and present its ownnarrative ...on one level I can understand Harry and his classmates andsuch, but this just skims WAY over everything else. I admit to havingnot read the book but the previous movies allowed for that andpresented a unified story - end to end - and this did not. WTH are allthese esoteric details that we were supposed to either know from thebook or remember from obscure references in prior films? This is thelaziness of a big brand. I went to the midnight show but I may not evencare to see the next film ...if its already in the can with thisapproach then I'm not going to 'get it' either ....too bad.
