This review is from: Hop (DVD) I first saw this movie with grandkids when it first came out, and thought it was a wonderful exciting family movie. When it came out on DVD, I was disappointed. I really wanted the Blu-ray disc, but the only way that was sold was with the 150% useless ultraviolet so-called "digital" copy. If I can't put it on my iPod, it just another Warner Bros. Waste of time. I refuse to pay for it. So I got the regular DVD, and will have to be satisfied with it. For those of you who don't understand the Ultraviolet "digital" copy, they give you a serial number that you upload and then they store it in a cloud for you, and it is to their discretion how long it lasts. So, you are NOT paying for the digital copy, but merely renting it. To watch it on your android based phone, you must first log on to the internet and then go to your flixster acct to retrieve the movie, if it's still available. Kinda tough to watch a movie that way at 30,000 feet.

This review is from: Hop (DVD) Such a cute and funny movie...my kids love it! I just pre-ordered it for Easter!...I'm happy to say I'm excited to see it again!!!

For the most part it tries too hard, lurching from one plot contrivance to another and never giving any of its cast (apart from the heroically hard-working Marsden) much to do.

I read the script....its one thing to push sexism, its another to push it through a kid's movie. You don't go and throw in lines to teach young boys how to sexually objectify a girl. You don't put Hugh Hefner in a kid's movie. Kid's copy what they see and say what they hear. This movie is going to cause a lot of damage to the already growing problem in elementary schools. We were warned that the sex industry was going to try to find a way to make "filth" more mainstream for families ....well this attempt is just plain out sick.

You know that sense of childlike wonder you experience when you tear away the shiny foil and bite into a huge milk chocolate egg - only it turns out to be carob? Well, Hop is a carob egg.
Corey Hall (20 May 2012)
Most gags are as disposable as last week's colored eggs, but there's likable geniality that keeps Hop tolerable, hinging on your tolerance of Brand's cheeky style.

When I entered the cinema with my little sister, I dreaded to see Hop.After seeing the trailer, I was sure it was going to be terrible. Butwhat a pleasant surprise! This movie does what it's supposed to do,entertain, and it does it well. Most of the characters are interestingenough, not to mention a great cameo from David Hasselhoff, and thespecial effects are top notch. The movie is a lot better than mostother movies that mix animated characters with live-action settings(Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, etc.), but it's still not perfect. The script feels a bit weird at times, and sometimes it had me thinkingit was originally supposed to be a Christmas movie but they replaced afew words (come on, the Easter Bunny has a sleigh?). Of course, some ofthe humor is not my taste, but I surprisingly found myself laughinghysterically during some parts. Overall, the movie is goodentertainment, especially for kids, but I'm sure the rest of the familywill enjoy it too. Not perfect, but a nice movie to warm up for Easterseason.

Hop makes you want to stab yourself in the leg. Hop is a stupid andidiotic movie with hardly any laughs. You got jelly bean pooping Easterbunnies, horrible dialogue, and weak characters with a touch ofcuteness. What we have here is a Christmas movie disguised as the firstever Easter themed movie. The film starts with the Easter Bunny givinghis son E.B. a tour of the Easter factory with chicks as elves and theEaster Bunny as Santa Claus. Twenty Years later, E.B. runs away fromEaster Island to California because he wants to be a drummer and notthe Easter Bunny. He later gets hit by an out of work slacker namedFred O'Hare. As Fred struggles with the world's worst house guest, bothlearn how to grow up and the must save Easter from a power-mad chicknamed Carlos. The CGI is hilarious. Do they give Razzles to animation. The CGI is so bad because when the CGI is mixed with the live action,it seams so fake. Here's a film that gives cuteness a bad name. Thecreators must found it under their fingernails and mistake it as abright idea. Although I must give points to the film because it'sbetter than Alvin but that's way far from recommendation I decided notto. All of this means that Hop is not suitable for people under seven.Let me close with this warning. Young men, if your friend likes thiscrap, tell him or her that they are IDIOTS!!! Young women, if your datealso likes this crap, BREAK UP WITH HIM!!!

Hop has Russell Brand as the voice of E.B. the son of the Easter Bunny (Hugh Laurie) who's supposed to inherit the job but he just wants to be a drummer. So he runs off to Hollywood where he meets a deadbeat played by James Marsden who has no goals or ambition. But together they'll find out what they are meant to do. That's not all but if I give away more, that's the whole movie pretty much. The movie feels a little rushed and half the time Marsden doesn't seem to even be looking in the direction of the CGI bunny. I know it's silly to say, but Matthew Lillard at least managed to some how have chemistry with the CGI Scooby Doo in those films. I like Marsden but he feels a bit awkward in Hop. While, am not sure what they were thinking by having the bunny poop jelly beans in a family film. It's nice to get an Easter film, but Hop didn't really leave me with much, the end is kind of silly actually.

An act of aggression against childhood.

When I went to the movie, I expected something that the whole family would enjoy. I left thinking 'this was for 5 year olds'. The funny parts, though mainly in the beginning, were indeed funny. Animation was well done. What irked me, is that the ending seemed rushed and almost a Santa Claus met Easter thought popped in my head. The storyline started off well but just went downhill throughout the movie. All in all, it could have been better but it could have been a whole lot worse.

This time, the phrase "From the producers of Despicable Me" did notsound like a warning, but as a recommendation, because I moderatelyenjoyed that movie. Unfortunately, Hop ended up being a horrible filmwhich uses the most cloying and tiring routines from the family cinema. In a few words, I found the story to be boring, the humor to beexcessively simple and trite and the performances (with one exception)to be lacking of any life or energy. However, the solid animation andvivacious music might fool to some kids to make them believe they arehaving fun.I previously mentioned that almost all the performances (also the voiceones) feel listless. The only actor who shows conviction in his role isJames Marsden as the leading character. His best attribute in thismovie is that he makes us to believe he is genuinely interacting with arabbit which would not exist on the screen until months later, duringthe post-production. And I also liked the fact that he takes hischaracter seriously; thinking about it better, I think that that iswhat makes the relationship between his character and the rabbitcredible. Unfortunately, Marsden's competent work was not enough forsaving this movie from being an absolute tedium. And just in case the screenplay was not questionable enough, Hop forcesits premise even more in order to justify the use of sporadicrock-and-roll songs, with the hope of looking "cooler". Besides, theexcuse of the rabbit wanting to be a rock singer is simply a rehash ofthe old cliché "son who refuses to follow his father's steps". Anyway,I think that Hop is an atrocious movie which made me feel likegenuinely wasting my time. In other words, avoid it at any cost.

Almost every scene's overscored, overtold or overdone to the point of the jokes getting runny. Hop seems to think filling out the formula and being super-duper eager-to-please is enough. Hobbling along, this bunny just ain't funny.

This review is from: Hop (DVD) This movie is great for children and adults alike. My 5 year old grandson watches it over and over...He loves the music and all of the vibrant color.

I have to admit ever since having kids and watching almost 10yrs ofchildren's films, I have been a sucker for the really cutesy ones forexample The Chipmunk films. So when we saw the trailer for this we allmade the decision that upon its release we would go and check it out.Well did that today and we all, even myself (the most criticising ofthese films) enjoyed it immensely. Now i can definitely make fun of thefact that James Marsden is doing a film of this type however i have tosay i love him in these kid flicks as he does such a believable job inthem. This places the easter bunny and his apprentice his very own sonon their home turf of Easter Island of course and the senior EasterBunny who is voiced by TV's Dr. House's Hugh Laurie is trying witheverything he has got to persuade E. B. to get seriously ready to takeover the family business. E.B. voiced by Russell Brand would rathermake a living being a professional rock drummer then deliver the eggsall over the world making the children ever so happy. After a rowbetween the two of them E.B. flees Easter Island in a bid to follow hisdrumming dreams to Hollywood California. There he meets up with aunemployed slacker who still lives at home Fred O'Hare ( James Marsden)who has his own dreams of being something that he will never be. Ebwreaks havoc in Fred's life till they ultimately come to thedetermination what both of their destinies will be. A great family filmto ring in the upcoming Easter weekend!
