Doesn't raise the comedy bar.

Feels derivative of other recent comedies. Good cast doesn't work toohard. Jennifer Aniston as a dentist is as believable as Cameron Diazwas as an Orthopedist in "Something About Mary" a far better comedy.Humor is subjective. Shooting people, car crashes, drug use and foullanguage may not be universally funny. Mentioning better movies indialogue makes you wish you were watching any Hitchcock movie. If you like your comedy dark, your characters thinly written, you willenjoy this no brain needed entertainment. The outtakes over the endcredits looked like those in it had more fun then those of us watchingit.

Witty for what it is. Just don't expect a comedy of total hysteria.

I'm just gonna be blunt... I was not crazy about this movie. I'm sorry, but I honestly was expecting to enjoy it more, especially since I hadheard so many funny things about it. Maybe it was aimed at those withsomething of an acquired taste, because the movie has a very specific, very twisted sense of humor that goes down some pretty dark roads. Imean, this review is coming from someone who laughs harder at the MontyPython show and movies than anything. At least the cast is pretty admirable stuff. They each get their ownunique moments of hilarity, with Charlie Day and Colin Farrell standingout in a field of such talented comics. When the movie is funny, it'shysterically so (Day has one particular scene with Kevin Spacey, whosecharacter has a peanut allergy, that had me rolling). I just felt likethe comedy was a bit on the uneven side. A lot of outrageous thingshappen, but I'm not laughing that much.Still, I can't be too harsh on something that was actually not halfbad, so I'll recommend it for a rental.**1/2 out of ****

3.5 - 4 stars

I had also heard great things about this movie. Well..It has it's moments that you'll laugh and it has it's moments that seemed to get too serious for a comedy movie. Also, the plot sort of jumped around a bit. The kind of humor you can expect:- "They shouldn't put a childrens park next to a bar. It's entrapment" (One member is a sex offendor for peeing in a park at night)- Colin Ferrell says to fire a guy who he calls Prof. Xavier for "Creeps me out, rolling around all day in his special little secret chair." (It's a wheelchair)- Detective stops the guys - "Why were you speeding?", "I was drag racing.", "In a prius?", "I don't win alot"So, you can see it DOES have it's funny moments. It just gets too serious sometimes and it takes a bit of the laughter away from the humor. It's worth the watch and if you are a fan of the stars of the movie, pic it up but renting it isn't a bad idea for some people.

Awful film with a corrupt IMDb rating

I really cant believe the rating this film has. How on earth does thisget a 7.1, higher than the latest Twilight Breaking Dawn Pt 1 film.Seriously!?I have watched some poor movies but this really is up there with theworst. Good actors, poor story, bland direction and terrible comedytiming. It is like a cheap impression of The Hangover but withoutanything worth watching. The storyline really is bad. I tried my best to remain interested butit is soooo slow. Then all the way through it constantly misses thecomedy timing. When I say misses, I mean HUGE miss. To the point whereyou wonder if the director is qualified. Then there are the feebleattempts to try and be shocking but even this falls flat. It is alljust so clumsy.I have rated this as a 4. The lowest I have ever rated a film I think. For this to carry a 7.1 just confirms to me that you cann no longertrust the IMDb rating anymore. There must just be too many Hollywood PRagents flooding this site with fake reviews. Pity. This film is not recommended.

A laugh-producing machine.

This movie is hilarious. Every scene is funny. Jennifer Aniston hasnever been better. She is not only a great actress, she is a greatcomedienne too. Charlie Day gives one of the funniest performances in aHollywood movie in years. His phone scene with Ms. Aniston ishilarious, a take off on the Doris Day - Rock Hudson romantic comediesfrom the 1960s. Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey give wonderful, strongperformances. They are great actors and prove it in this movie. Playingheavies, they are perfect foils for the comics in this movie. The trioof Bateman, Sudeikis and Day is the best comedy combo since ChevyChase, Steve Martin and Martin Short in Three Amigos. If this moviedoesn't make you laugh, and laugh often, then either you're sleeping oryou just don't like comedies. This movie is proof that when it wantsto, Hollywood can make a comedy that actually produces laughs. Thestory is zany, goofy and upbeat. It's a farce, a romp, and alaugh-producing machine.

Very funny movie, even better than I expected.

In first part of film you get to see the working place of three friends and the horrible types of bosses in each one. Then their scheme to get rid of these terrible bosses is what get really good. In the theater where I saw the film people were laughing their heads off. I heard one group of "older" young adults (not teens, much older than that) laughing and repeating the lines and gags all after and during the closing credits and even staying till the very end of those enjoying themselves repeating the funny moments. I also heard them say they couldn't wait to see the film again.I loved Kevin Spacey's portrayal of terribe brutal dictatorial boss. Someone you really wanted to hate. I was entertained by Jennifer Anniston's portrayal of a DDS always sexually harrassing her male assistant who was engaged to be married soon. Colin Farrel as the cokehead and playbay son of the one beloved boss in the group (soon to take over the company should anything happen to Kiefer Sutherland, his dad) really good too. I didn't recognize him until the crdits revealed him as he looked so different. Although I am now retired after 37 years of working on same job under an assortment of bosses, I found it very funny and a lot of fun. Of course, pure fantasy, but so many crazy things kept happening it was much better than I thought it would be going in.The one person on here giving such a negative review does not echo the reaction of the group of adults filling the theater where I went to see it last Saturday afternoon.

A plot with lots of potential but most of it wasted. Tedious movie.

DVD from my public library system. The story revolves around and weaves through three different situationswhere a good, nay exemplary, employee is saddled with a horrible boss. One is a timid dental technician who has a "sexual deviant" record, butonly because he was arrested late one night taking a leak in somebushes with no one around. He works for the female dentist from hell,Jennifer Aniston as Dr. Julia Harris, D.D.S. You have not witnessessexual harassment until you've seen her in action.Another is the veteran employee who is up for promotion to V.P. anddoes everything he can to cater to the boss without scruples or morals, then finds out the boss was leading him on all this time. Kevin Spaceyexpertly plays the boss, Dave Harken. And the final is a faithful right-hand man in a chemical manufacturingcompany, but the old boss dies unexpectedly with a massive coronary(heart exploded) and the young son without scruples or morals takesover to make the workplace a hell. That horrible boss is Colin Farrellas Bobby Pellitt. So where do we go from there? See how each manages the situation toturn it around to something productive? No! They decide that the onlysolution is to kill all three horrible bosses. And the path they takeis a bumbling one that isn't particularly good or funny. In a take-offfrom Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train", they decide to kill eachothers' bosses but it never quite works out that way.Good talent wasted in what ultimately is a horrible movie.

Horrible Bosses: Hysterical

Horrible Bosses, takes a dark premise — three men working together tomurder their bosses — and molds it into a thoroughly entertaining andconsistently funny movie. The talented cast, led by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikisas the three miserable employees does is superb, while the supportingcast of Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell do excellentjobs as the titular bosses. A tattoo-covered Jamie Foxx adds anotherdimension to the movie's humor as the "murder consultant" with thecharming name, "Motherfucker Jones."Spacey plays a seething, condescending monster of a human being.Farrell does a brilliant job as a karate-obsessed coke-head with afrighteningly bad comb-over. And an unsatisfiable and horny Aniston hasfun with her character, letting loose a string of vulgarities thatwould make Rachel Green squirmThe premise is ludicrous, as it is meant to be with this genre ofslapstick, raunchy comedy, but director Seth Gordon balances theabsurdity with enough passable logic and laugh-out-loud humor to makethe movie extremely entertaining. Horrible Bosses is one of thesummer's best comedy and is highly recommended!

Terrible

Me and my wife are big fans of movies. We like all kinds of them - old, new, American, European, sci-fi, documentary, drama, comedy etc.. Icould count on my hands how many movies we left in the middle. And thisis one of them. We were shocked how flat and dumb can things here be -beginning with terrible jokes and ending with stupid overacting. Such asurprise to see so many respected actors, Kevin Spacey being one ofthem, in this set. If a movie for you is like a background of picturesand noise along with many friends talking and eating around, maybe youmight enjoy some parts of it, like teasing scenes of Aniston, but ifyou love movies, have at least a moderately developed sense of humor, forget about this crap...

Horrible Bosses

This review is from: Horrible Bosses (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) I found nothing the slightest bit amusing about this movie... I even gave it a second try thinking I was tired the first time I watched it...but wide awake I still couldn't get thru this slapstik movie...I don't know what to say about it, except it did absolutely nothing for me, I didn't even give a small haha...It was a very childish type movie, something that kids would find amusing...

Not worth the time

It has a few moments. As the New Yorker said (roughly), it's sounds good when described, but it does not work well, a lot of funny ideas wasted. Kevin Spacey steals every scene he is in, but he's just being the same mean guy he often is. I've now come to realize why Jason Bateman did not make it after Teen Wolf 2: he only has one character in him and he does it in every movie. Poor guy has not made a great movie yet. He works as the central character in Arrested Development because of the enormous talent surrounding him and the great writing. The guy from IASIP is just annoying. Anniston's character does not exist in real life, she is purely wish fulfillment. The three central men are portrayed as smart guys and then we are supposed to believe that all three of them will mess up their caper at every chance. They do nothing right, very predictably. Colin Farrell is fun, but only because it's him, like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. Steve Buscemi would have been better in both roles, but we would have just believed him and not thought it funny to have a Hollywood heart-throb play a douchebag. Is it funny to see a "stud" play a prick with a comb-over? Maybe for the first five seconds. The best moments are played by Jamie Foxx, as well as the way too short appearance by the guy from the Fantastic Four. Overall, the plot is obvious, the comedy is clunky, we don't get to know any of the characters at all (well, maybe Kevin Spacey's the most).

Wears thin after awhile

I loved the way the movie starts out. Well written at the beginning themovie does a great job of setting up the premise...three bosses thatare so morally bankrupt, mean, and bad, that the only recourse is tokill them. With some really funny moments, lines, and situations themovie is quite entertaining. Then it runs dry. The last 30 minutesseems to drag on and the writers gets sloppy. The movie wraps up far toneatly and conveniently. The standout performances in this film belongs to Charlie Day, who gavean excellent comedic performance of a man being sexually harassed, andJennifer Aniston who performed her part wonderfully as the harasser.

Horribly original and enjoyable!

Nick(Jason Bateman), Dale(Charlie Day) and Kurt(Jason Sudeikis)drunkenly and hypothetically discuss how to kill their bosses, andbefore they know it, they've hired a murder consultant to help thempull off the three deeds.Horrible Bosses is, first off, very original. I love the plot and whenwe see how horrible these bosses really are, we find ourselves hopingNick,Dale and Kurt can pull off the job. The Bosses, Dave(KevinSpacey), Julia(Jennifer Aniston) and Pellitt(Colin Farrel) aredescribed as a Psycho,Maneater and Tool respectively - and those arevery accurate! The cast is amazing, I love them all and the acting is very welldone. The script was well written and I think this movie was just goodfun. Personally there was a little unnecessary cursing at time and itwasn't as funny as i expected but i enjoyed it and I think anyone whowatches it will enjoy it also.7/10

Sad what passes for humor...

This is the worst movie I have seen in a long time. The "humor" (such as it is) is very low-brow. Writers actually got paid for creating this script? Amazing...What I can't figure out is how they got Keven Spacey to agree to be in such a crappy movie. So NOT recommended.

Could have been better

Good plot, a few funny scenes but otherwise lacking. Seems like the producers thought profanity could take the place of good acting. Overall a disappointment as this move could have been a hit.

gina-marie-93-996582 (12 May 2012)

Hilarious

Saw a screening for this last night and I just loved it. It ishysterical from the very beginning and all the way through. Definitelystay for the credit roll. You can figure out what the basic plot is. Three friends who all havethe worst bosses and they plot to kill them. Of course, why they hatetheir bosses and how they go about their plan is the meat of the storyand a huge riot.I truly cannot say who was funnier because all the characters playedoff each other so well. Jennifer Anniston totally steps out of her"norm" and does a great job, too. Totally worth seeing for lots oflaughs.

This could easily be much, much better

Great actors, great ideas with many skits easily applicable to everyone's situations at work. This kind of movie had real potential for being great. What went wrong then? First of all, this thing is way too vulgar for no reason. This could be really sweet and clever comedy and rated PG13. However, it seems that the Hollywood creators are watching cheap porn all day long and then represent it in their pictures. What's worse; the vulgar parts are not even remotely funny. Or, maybe they are funny to those who watch cheap porn all day long? In the future the writers would do well consulting their work with people who don't watch cheap porn all day long. Yes, it's hard to believe, but some people don't actually spend all days on watching cheap porn. Secondly, the plot's course got randomised halfway through and it never became too consistent again. So, a discerning viewer is likely to be disappointed with the story. I hope someone someday will pick up this idea and make it into a truly great comedy. Two stars for a pretty interesting first half.

Who knew Jennifer was so funny???

You know a movie is good when days later out of the blue a line from a movie pops in your head and makes you crack up, if for no other reason buy the movie for the Most hysterical comment made by Jennifer Anniston making reference to how she broke her fingernail, I laughed so hard I nearly fell off my couch, she is not always in the best movies but she won me over in this one. Also Kevin Spacey and Jamie Fox were HYSTERICAL- actually, Everyone in this movie cracked me up. CLASSIC. Funny Funny movie, haven't laughed this hard since Hangover (the first one of course.) This is not a cute movie like "just go with it" (which I loved) and it is rather on the crude side, but it is SO MUCH FUN and guaranteed to bring a few belly laughs from its wonderful cast.

Raoul Duke (09 May 2012)

a 7 or what I consider to be a good flick on IMDb if you remember not to think

So I saw 2011's horrible bosses starring well a lot of famous people. So is it good, well that depends on a few things. So if you are lookingfor a really well developed story well this movie is horrible. However,if you enjoy mindless comedy, this movie is worthy of best picture. This movie is hilarious. However, that is about it. So did I like itwell yeah, but I am also a huge fan of this type of film when it isdone right. This movie in some ways reminded me a lot of (what Iconsider to be the best stoner comedy of all time) "Harold and Kumar Goto White Castle." In it three individuals, hate their bosses and wantto kill them. So who are these individuals. Well my favorite is playedby Charlie Day of one of the best sitcoms of all time, "it's alwayssunny in Philadelphia." He essential plays a smarter version of hischaracter on that show, he even is a self proclaimed law expert in thismovie. The second is played by Jason Batman who plays the samecharacter he plays in every freakin' movie he is in for the most part.Hey Jason, you better ride that money train for as long as you can, because people are starting to get bored with the under appreciatedexecutive you made famous in (another one of the best sitcoms of alltime) "Arrested Development." Finally, the last killer in repose isplayed by Jason Sudeikis who plays an interesting character who issomehow competent and a good guy while being a very smarmy sex addict. The cast is rounded out by several greats all playing some reallyhorrible bosses. We have Jennifer Aniston playing a Nympho dentist whois not afraid to sexually harass Charlie Day. This movie is worthseeing just for her alone and the chance to see her near naked bodyWOW! Then there is Colin Farrell who has the best comb over of alltime, he is simply horrible, but in a good way. And then there is KevinSpacey who is horrible but who is really over the top, which I didn'tlike. Finally there is I think a character played by.....well a cameoso if you don't know why spoil it (I know I was surprised). So thismovie is basically character and joke driven. In this sense it isimmensely successful, and should have very broad appeal. So go and justturn your brain off and laugh, oh and if you can manage to see it withthe worlds most beautiful woman I highly recommend it. if you likeconcise reviews of interesting films please read my other reviews athttp://raouldukeatthemovies.blogspot.com/
