Cheated by De-Nero

Yes I got cheated by Robert DeNero!Robert DeNero, what the hell are you doing? A level A actor acting witha 3rd class actor, and just for 4 scenes, any normal actor would do.You're just decreasing yourself. Unfortunately Putting Denero's pictureon the poster was there for the Box-office only. I think Denero wantedto do some action for the sake of it, he said why not; let's showpeople I still have it. Action : Action wasn't really good, was OK, butwasn't perfect, not like the Transporters for example. Even that wasn'tgood. Clive Owen: another good actor getting a role that won't add anypoints to him, it could even get away some of his good points. WritingWise : Basic ABC screen writing information, not all true stories arethere to be films. The story is weak drama wise. The writer tried tofix this by putting a lover for Danny (Jason Statham), but it was aweak attempt. Even dialog wise things weren't fabulous.Jason Statham : He was the Hero. This was level of acting capabilities, wont say much.Over All experience could give it something like 4 out of 10P.S. What is this deserty place you shooted at, saying that it's OmanKhalid_almasry@hotmail.com

More disjointed than Gumby!

The movie needed quite a bit more De Niro. No, not dinero. Cash andMexican scenery is abundant in this film. I am just unclear why a greatactor like Robert De Niro was used so sparingly a dinero issue perhaps? And don't confuse this film at with the Sam Peckinpah film of the samename from 1975 with Robert Duvall, Arthur Hill and James Caan. There isno relation. This is a professional assassin film. The basic plot is simple.Ex-British SAS (Special Air Services) rogues Danny (Statham) and Hunter(DeNiro) are free lance assassins. The time period is somewhere in themid 1970′s we assume. There were no cell phones or Mac productplacements in this film. DeNiro gets abducted by an Oman based sheikh. For his freedom, the sheikh wants Danny to obtain confessions andexecute three British SAS officers who killed three of his sons in araid. Danny sets out to kill them all while current SAS rogue Spike(Owen) tries to stop him. And of course, the ultimate trump card tomake Danny comply is by threatening his new girlfriend Anne (played byhottie newbie Yvonne Strahovski). Nothing new here. Fast, fun andfurious fights are all that really hold the film together. It is hard to say more other than point out some nuances and faults.Number one is that the movie is a bunch of disjointed scenes pastedtogether with absolutely no foundation or relationship. The charactersare hard to follow and while we get the plot, we don't reallyunderstand the storyline. It is just very convoluted for no realreason. There is lots of great fighting, car chasing and gun shooting. We do learn (quite convincingly mind you) that all the bullets, eyegouging, stabs in the skull, blows, crashes and hits dished outgratuitously in this film don't stop a man nearly as quickly as oneswift kick or grab to the groin—ouch!. We also get a real doozie of ascene where one guy gets smacked dead on by a car. This is the thirdfilm in three weeks to feature such a scene. The Debt and Contagioneach had such a feature. We are not speaking of your normal car crashwith a person here—we mean dead on, total smack, run over like araccoon action. Joy Lynn and I are always looking for new trends infilms and this may be one of them. It is starting to overshadow thegratuitous urination scenes and our latest, P Factor rating.Based upon a 1991 novel called The Feather Men by Ranulph Fiennes, there are supposed to be half-true elements in this story. TMG is notso sure. Fiennes himself admitted that much of the story was justfiction. What is clear is much of the dialogue was borrowed from otherfilms. Candidates for worst lines in this movie are : An exchange thatwent " He was lying." "How can you tell?" "His lips were moving"Really? Borrowing old cliché jokes like that is the best the screenplaywriters could muster? There were many more. Statham proclaiming"Killing is easy, living with it is hard." Oh brother, now that tookgreat imagination to steal that line from a hundred other films. Orperhaps Clive Owen blurting out "What the "f' is that supposed tomean?' or "You have no f-ing idea who you are f-ing with!" or perhapsbest yet, "This f-ing thing ends today." The lines just arrived sorehearsed, cliché and corny. I expected any moment for someone to utter"Go ahead, make my day."And for crying out loud (I love that old cliché expression) letsdispense with the Batman style scenes where one guy has the othercornered with a gun, but has to explain the whole plot and his lifestory first. Missing the sure kill and freedom, blabbing long enoughfor the other to engage and then kill him never works. In the realworld, bad guys just shoot first. The film goes on about 20 minutes too long as if they cannot figure outhow to end it. Maybe a 5.0 rating was being too generous, but TMG is asucker for hot action films–even ones with tons of flaws.

OK, but no better

Assassin/mercenary Danny (Jason Statham) has had enough of hisprecarious lifestyle, and decides to get out while he can.Unfortunately, no sooner has he started to build himself a private lifethan he is forced back into the game: his friend and mentor Hunter(Robert De Niro) is being held by a sheik who wants revenge for the SASkilling his three sons, and Danny has to carry out the executions inorder to rescue his friend. And it isn't as simple as that - a secretorganisation called the Feathermen is involved, and their ex-SASoperative Spike (Clive Owen) doesn't take kindly to someone knockingoff his mates. For a simple story (based on a book by Sir Ranulph Fiennes which isallegedly based on truth), there is quite a lot of plot going on here, not to mention a fair amount of action - well choreographed, not alwayswell filmed. Thank you again, Bourne). It is a drab looking affair, filmed in hues of grey and sand, depending on where the location is(and not all the locations are convincing). The cast are perfectlysatisfactory, and I guess one doesn't begrudge De Niro doing the oddfilm here and there for the pension fund. Australian actress YvonneStrahovsky is a pleasing new presence. There is some swearing, but relatively little and what there is is wellplaced and dramatically justified. Likewise with the violence (asopposed to action). However, on the whole, although this film passes the time well enough,I think there is rather less here than meets they eye: what might havebeen a gripping conspiracy thriller turns out to be no more than arough and tumble beat-'em-up.

There is more inaccuracies in this movie, than actual accuracies

First of all, the basis of the book is questionable (brilliant by theway). The opening credit of the movie says that this movie is based onthe book, having read the book - VERY loosely. The main contract killer in the book is actually a South African nativenamed Daniel De Villiers, not an ex SAS soldier named Bryce. His 2accomplices are also foreign, not British. Where they got the third onein the film I do not know. The got between agent never existed, Robert De Niro's character in thebook didn't exist. The final 2 main shoot outs didn't exist.De Villiers was actually captured and imprisoned by the feather men, held in a Military Prison in Colchester, Essex, named the Glass House.Trust movie makers to go way over the top.

Typical Killer Across The Globe Action Thriller

Despite the tagline stating it being (very very loosely) based on trueevents, Gary McKendry's 'Killer Elite' is pretty much your typicalaction thriller that spans across the globe. It has nothing new tooffer. The direction and writing are quite poor. Perhaps Statham isn'taware that there are other genres or maybe he just enjoys doing thiskind of film. This one is marginally better than his usual flicksmostly because of his co-stars. The locations are well captured thoughnothing memorable and the cinematography is very good in places but attimes there was a B-movie feel to the film. Statham is pretty much, uh,what he's been in almost every other one of his films. Robert de Nirodoes well in a small role. Ditto for Clive Owen. 'Killer Elite' is asforgettable as any other typical film of this genre. It would strictlyappeal to those who like the typical action thriller flicks and to fansof Statham.

Poorly filmed fight scenes with an average story

The storyline was mildly interesting, about Statham attempting torescue De Niro from the hands of a sheik who wants Statham to seek anddestroy several people that killed the sheik's three sons. The storyfollows their brief investigations along the way. Statham also recruitsDominic Purcell (Blade Trinity) and another. The investigations give ahint of what they're looking for, then they search and almost alwaysfind their target without much trouble. That's the gist of thestoryline throughout. No major spikes in the flat line story till theend. Just an observation.Being a huge action fan, this is what I paid to see after a goodstoryline. The action fight scenes featuring Statham are poor at best, not because of Statham or his enemy, but do to the director ofphotography filming too tight on the action, and the editor cuttingevery split second to another angle, resulting in the infamous "Whatjust happened? Who hit who? What the hell is going on here?" This styleis mostly reserved for low budget TV shows, though I can think of onethat puts this movie's fight scenes to shame. A wasted opportunityprobably in an attempt to rush through the scene. If film makers thinkaction fans don't care, they need to think again and stop giving us ajumbled, incoherent mess of a fight scene. The shoot outs are decent, but De Niro barely has his moments, sincethe story line keeps him as the one needing rescue. (See Ronin for hisbest).Beware to those looking for Jason Statham in a new classic fight scene. It's not found here.

Fancy a change ?

You could do a lot worse than to plonk yourself down in front of thisone. I think Jason Statham's casting has coloured the film for some aspurely an action vehicle and i was surprised and pleased to find outthat it is a lot more than that. There is an honest effort made here to interweave a reasonably plottedspy thriller, with a clash of personal moral agendas, that creates anambiguous tale, rather than a simple black and white one.The story unfolds nicely and when it comes time for the strenuousphysicality, its exciting, but maintains a sense of realism as well. The cast all do a good job, the main premise is that these men are allhighly skilled, professionals and your never less than convinced ofthis.Don't let any preconceptions you might have formed put you off here, this is a good action movie, but its also more than just an actionmovie.

Chaz_233 (14 May 2012)

An extraordinary action movie.

Statham plays Danny, a mercenary who finds himself having to rescue hisfriend Hunter (DeNiro) who is in the captivity of a Sheikh in Oman, whois willing to release Hunter if Danny kills all the British agents whokilled his sons.Danny accepts and with his team manages to track down those men. Butthis gets the attention of a secretive group of former and currentBritish agents. Spike (Owen) is their main operative and he is hot onthe trail of Danny's team. The British government itself though istelling the secret group to stand down and to reign Spike in, thatwon't be easy though. When Danny thinks he's done it turns out there was a mistake in hishitlist and he has one more agent to kill. In the meantime some of histeam members are caught, others don't end up well because of the helpof amateurs. During the final mission both Danny and Spike realize thatthey are just pawns of a much bigger game- Oman has oil.Killer Elite is an exhilarating non-stop action movie, it reminded meof some of those British action series of the 70s/80s, that wereserious and no nonsense. In fact it even looks like these series, basedon the old cars they are driving. Interestingly it's not easy to tellwhen the events transpire. But aside from being an excellent actionmovie, much in vein of the Bourne movies, filled with intrigue, thereis the political and economical story that gives this movie anotherlayer of depth that you don't find in most action movies. Not tomention that it's based on real events. And those events are sointeresting and timely. We find out the sort of things that Britain wasdoing years ago, and which the US seems to be following, unfortunately. The movie could be a bit shorter and some of the characters manage toalways be at the right place at the right time. Nevertheless, KillerElite is one of the best story-based action movies in long time.

snowboarderbo (13 May 2012)

Much better than I expected; excellent pacing

Decent acting from the supporting cast, an interesting story that isthankfully absent any clichés, and a lack of any "gotcha" in the storycertainly help this movie stand out. But really it's the pacing thatmade it for me. Things happen FAST. They happen logically, andreasonably (well, reasonably given the nature of the story) but theyhappen quickly. The movie does not have any periods of introspectionfor our main characters. It suggests that they are having thosemoments, but doesn't linger on them or play them up at all; they arejust facts, like everything else that happens in the movie (fights, deaths, kidnappings, etc.).The story is complicated, involving at least 5 separately motivatedfactions, but at no time was it confusing (so there was no need for an"aha!" moment). The fight scenes were all exceedingly well choreographed and fit thestory so well that there was never a time when 2 people were facing offjust so we could see them fight; I really appreciated that. All in all, a very satisfying film: lots of action, lots of very goodacting, and lots of attention to detail (it really looked like it wasthe early 1980s).I was going to give this a 7/10, but as I was writing and thinkingabout it, I upped it to 8/10.

Killer Elite is average in most respects but contains an intriguing plot

The Killer Elite is saddled with a vague and forgettable title but atleast it sounds more lethal than the book it is based on by Sir RanulphFiennes, "The Feather Men". An evil cabal known as the Feather Men doesnot inspire too much fear. These ex-SAS (Special Air Service) members, and now business leaders, chose the name themselves to signify theirlight touch on situations which concern them. Shady characters arestarting to ask around about an old mission in Oman involving SAS menand this falls right in the wheelhouse of issues the Feather Men arewatching out for.The Feather Men novel is allegedly based on a true story but none ofthe facts have ever been verified. Sir Fiennes described the book as'factional' which does not bode well for the story's authenticity. However, the plot is intriguing, especially for a shoot 'em up first, ask questions later action fest. The background and set up arecomplicated enough which makes you want to follow it closely. I do notwant to provide an exact plot synopsis but essentially Danny Bryce(Jason Statham) must kill some ex-SAS men to save his assassin mentor(Robert De Niro) from some Omani oil sheiks. Spike Logan (Clive Owen),also an ex-SAS man but not one of the marked men, has his sixth sensekick into overdrive and tries to save his mates from Danny's bullets asa good Feather Man would. Sir Fiennes actually claims to be one ofthose marked SAS men. The script portrays Danny as an assassin who has lost his taste forkilling and vows after every trigger pull that "this is my last job".He is supposedly from Australia but oddly maintains a thick and nativeBritish accent. Since every assassin must have someone to come home to,his girlfriend Anne (Yvonne Strahovski) waits impatiently for him as hedisappears on his missions. Strahovski is a real life Australian andhas a matching accent to prove it. She has been outstanding in theChuck series so it is enjoyable to see her finally cross over intomainstream film. Even though the plot is deeper than your average thriller, the dialoguedoes not rise above mediocrity and has the exact same platitudes asmost other actions films. The worst example is:"He knew what he was getting into when he joined the club." "Whatclub?" "The killer's club." There is also the obligatory conversation about the woe is me assassinwhich includes the gem, "The killing is easy, living with it is hard."First time feature film director Gary McKendry is very good at filmingone on one hand fighting scenes. Statham and Owen impressively use theentire room and every prop in it to beat each other senseless. For theladies, they still keep their film star looks even after they are donetaking turns butchering each other. What McKendry has yet to master arecar chases. The edits are too fast which turns each of them into amessy muddle. Opening one weekend after Drive which containsoutstanding car sequences makes these awkward scenes in the KillerElite look even worse by comparison. The overall look to the Killer Elite is good however. Even though itwas mainly shot in Melbourne, the skies are usually England gray andthe Brecon Beacons mountain range sequence is shot well. This film isright in that middle range where I am unsure still at this point ratherto recommend it or not. It is much better than the garbage in its genresuch as The Expendables but fails to reach up to the higher level ofCrank or The Bank Job. I suppose I marginally recommend the KillerElite for its absorbing plot and intricate assassination sequences, butbe warned, this film is not anything more than average.

kahnguru (11 May 2012)

this movie is a joke

this movie is obviously a parody. this can't be a serious attempt atdoing an action movie. i've rarely seen such a bunch of screenplayholes in one movie. the attempt of creating a dual relation betweenowen and statham is pathetic. is the kind of thing an 8 years old wouldwrite. there are so many stereotypes in this film they are difficult tocount. all the hyper-complicated ways to kill the targets are so lamethey are funny. the hammer hidden in the middle of the desert is one ofmy favorite scenes. why not in a mountain of the Antarctic? thisdirector has probably seen Heat one time too many. one of the worstmovies ever, no doubt.

Tony Heck (10 May 2012)

A good movie that could have been better. Some parts were great, others boring, not consistent enough to be great. I say B

"If you don't do this job Hunter's a dead man." After a job changes theway he feels Danny (Statham) retires from killing. A few years later hehears that his old partner Hunter (DeNiro) has been captured and he isthe only one who can go in and rescue him. Nothing is ever as easy asit seems. This movie is based on a true story (if it comes out as 100%true someone is in trouble) of a British SAS mission. Going in I haveto admit one of the reasons I watched it was because of Statham. I knowwhat you are thinking, "but all his movies are the same". I agree withyou but I still watch everything he is in. This one is really nodifferent, but it does have better actors with him. This is a moviewith so much potential but ultimately was very up and down. Some sceneswere very exciting and fun to watch, while others were flat and boring. Not a lot of consistency made the movie a little disappointing, but theending was great and made up for the down times. I did enjoy this butglad I didn't pay full price in a theater. Overall, a enjoyable moviethat could have used a more consistent feel. Worth watching though. Onelast note...again what is going on with DeNiro. Does he care anymore?Performance seemed very phoned in. I give it a B.

retrodyne (06 May 2012)

I guess nobody has actually read the book

...because this film turns the whole book upside down for no obviousreason, and to the detriment of story. In the book by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the SAS were the good guys who werebeing targeted for assassination, and the Feathermen were their lastline of defense.Presumably the usual suspects (producers, director, writers) all feltobliged to inject their creativity - leaving us with more complexityand less heart. The central mystery of Killer Elite is how so many good actors ended upin this turkey.

Another victim of a bad marketing campaign

'Killer Elite' is a very good action movie. As it often happens withgood movies, it bombed in the box office. The reason? The marketing campaign. The trailers were extremelymisleading. They made the movie look like a new 'The Transporter'sequel and although Jason Statham is here, 'Killer Elite' has next tonothing to do with 'The Transporter' when it comes to tone, story, characters, setting, etc. This time the story is a lot more compelling. There are plot twists, there is intrigue, there are surprises... You get the point. This moviemakes you think, and that is not what the trailers promised. The trailers promised a lighthearted funny action with Jason Statham.Well... There is action, and there is Statham. But the movie is notlighthearted and it is not funny...And, of course, there is Jason Statham... The guy is great in roleslike this but the fact that he plays the same character in like half ofhis movies did 'Killer Elite' a really terrible favor. You know why -he overexposed himself in such roles and that is a problem. However there is no actor who would do that role better. Statham playedit very convincingly and whet it came to action he was absolutelygreat, no matter if we are talking about fist fights, shootouts orwhatever stunts you may think of.And, of course, there is Robert DeNiro and this is always a good thing. And Clive Owen who is great in his role. And Yvonne Strahovski.And...Action and brains... What else would you need?

Stratham Blows it Big Time

This was the biggest bunch of rubbish i have seen in years. The onlyreason i gave this film 2 out of 10 is that i found it humorous to seehow far Mr Strathams film careers gone down the toilet. This was aremake of the Malayalam movie Udayananu Thaaram. However the script waschanged for the worst, the total tone and feel of the movie was just amovie that fails to live up to any sort of serious movie. A cheapaction with the heroes face reaction to CGI explosions at best. Theoriginal movie was a hit, and yes it did have some influence from theEnglish movie The Holcroft Covenant (1985) as well. Also, what was that stain on the back of Strathams pants (!?)

Unbelievable Covert Story Solidly Brought To Screen

A true story about a super extraordinary covert justice avengingBritish underground organization's final, perhaps, circa 1970 operationcomes to the big screen as "The Elite Killer". The book, on which themovie's screenplay is based, written by Sir Ranulph Fiennes appeared in1993. It was seen as so grandiose, utterly stretching believability, selling well in UK, yet being quite under the radar in The U.S.. Neverunderestimate (true, half-true, or fiction) a good yarn; stories suchas this have a secret life: the book gained "cult classic" statuselsewhere as it was often times called the most entertaining espionagetome' ever penned. As of 2011, as cult things are apt to do, the legendof both the events and the book loom even larger, not the least reasonbeing the entire world's forced mandate to come to terms with the factthat "the tail wags the dog" as far as the Middle East region isconcerned. The secret life of "The Feather Men" is secret no longer.I approached "The Elite Killer" with scant knowledge of the book, thestory itself, or too much in the way of expectations. With JasonStatham on board I knew plenty of action was a given. Robert Di Nirois, at least, top-shelf mediocrity if not brilliant. Finally, CliveOwen has range (can play believable good and bad characters), and issolid and earthy on a regular basis: he is quite "anti-Hollywood" ifyou follow my thinking. So, I felt the production elements were put inplace for the telling of a quite extraordinary story, one possessinggreat potential in spite of a director, Gary McKendry, who was anunknown quantity. Would this be the case? In a sense "The Elite Killer"is a move in the right direction for Jason Statham as it does deliver amovie worth watching, perhaps more than once due to the intricatestory. Mr. Statham, in spite of being an Englishman, is almost aHollywood caricature due to overexposure, cult films, and plain crappyones, but he is back to a solid footing like we enjoyed in his "TheBank Job" performance I am pleased to say. Robert Di Niro is used tosparingly good effect and Clive Owen is perfect as a kind ofintelligent uber-hit-man. The attractively dark cinematography servesthe story and action well creating the right environment to immerse theviewer regardless of where the story goes. Finally, I'd say Mr.McKendry, the director, succeeded in bringing a wild story to thescreen keeping it mysterious and complicated while not pandering toomuch to the "Hollywoodesque" (i.e. over-the-top) type production whichwould simply spoil the entire proceedings."The Killer Elite" isn't a roaring mega-production action flick, itisn't a feel good movie, and it stretches credibility at times - justlike the actual story it's based on, but it gets your attention andprovides constant turns with plenty of danger laced intrigue. I havepurposely not told any of the story as the viewer needs to just let theevents unfold for maximum enjoyment. That said, I feel it is advantageI haven't read the actual book as I cannot suffer from the almostuniversal lament: "it's not as good as the book"…A book based movieabsolutely doesn't have to be "as good as the book" because it ain'tthe book, it's A MOVIE and should be judged strictly on that meritalone. I enjoyed the story as it was brought to the screen and now wantto read the book, this is a pretty good summation: though not a classicby any stretch the movie succeeds well indeed and is certainly worth alook. If you like covert conspiracy stuff all the better.

Harry T. Yung (30 April 2012)

Straightforward, well made action thriller

Maybe we are too tuned to convoluted plots that I, for one, keptlooking for twists and hidden conspiracies that were not there, untilthe very end by which time everything had become so predictable. The opening scene shows top professional mercenary Danny (JasonStatham) and his ageing but still well-respected mentor Hunter (RobertDe Niro) on a routine job when something long fermenting in him finallysnaps at the sight of a surviving young kid that he cannot bringhimself to shoot. Wanting out, he bids a fond farewell to Hunter andretreats to the Australian outback to an idyllic life with Anne (agorgeous Yvonne Strahovski) who is curious about what he's been doing, but not curious enough to let it come between their happy timestogether. This is, alas, too short, when a letter arrives from Oman, from the kidnapper of Hunter, demanding his service, or else. Thekidnapper is an ageing sheik who wants revenge for his three sons, allmurdered by ex-SAS killers for hire. Danny gathers two previouspartners-in-crime to whom he promises the entire lucrative fee, wantingfor himself only the release of his mentor. The other group of players in this deadly power game is called theFeather Men, meaning that there is light (albeit lethal), ex-SAS mennow turned businessmen, vowed to protect the lot. Doing the dirty workis Spike (Clive Owen) and his gang. That's about it (except for one predictable twist at the end) and theaudience can sit back to enjoy the action and thrill comprising somewell crafted action sequences in the execution (no pun intended) of thejobs and the face-off between Hunter and Spike. Both Anne and Hunterare drawn into the action towards the end – how else can it be?Statham, arguably the top draw, should satisfy his fan. Owen, makeupnotwithstanding, does not come across as tough enough for his row.Daniel Craig would be better but I guess he is busy with dates with acertain girl (something to do with tattoos?). Anyway, Owen has put insome good work. Strahovski comes through with top marks in herassignment here: looking gorgeous. De Niro stays deliberately low-keyin the first three-quarters of the movie, but shows that he still hasit before end credit rolls.

Great 70's look and good action.

I good Robert De Niro film is a rare thing over the last 15 years and iwas beginning to give up hope of him ever putting in a descent displaybut thankfully he seems to have found his feet again in his role inKiller Elite. This is the story of a group of mercenary's who get embroiled in a jobthat crosses paths with a bunch of ex SAS soldiers who are all out toprevent them succeeding. Despite finding the plot of Killer Elite a little confusing i foundthis film to be an enjoyable action flick. Jason Statham plays the rolehe usually does ( and is best at) and De Niro seems relaxed at last inhis role . The action is exciting and the 70's look is done very well ,especially the chases with the old Cortinas and Escorts. DominicPurcell is completely miscast as the Welshman . He looked the part ,but had no idea how to do the accent.Killer Elite is a fun ride that suffers a little from a convoluted andconfusing plot but it's not bad at all.

They Shoot and Miss

I'm not sure, but I believe the working title for this movie might havebeen "Super Killer Elite Squadron Delta Awesome". But like seasonedmovie-makers they opted for a much more "mature" title: "Killer Elite".It sounds like an 8 year old boy had suggested the title, and as youwatch the film, you begin to realize that perhaps an 8 year old boy mayhave written it as well. First off, I'll give the film credit for making some interesting fightscenes. Good, now that we're done with the positive aspects of thefilm, let's dive into the bad.The story seems to be disjointed; the plot is all over the place. Wemay wonder whether it was written by an 8 year-old because the story istold sort of like this: "Okay, so there's these guys okay, they haveguns, then uh, they shoot the guy, but then there's a kid in the car, then he gets shot okay, and then, he quits, but he doesn't really quit, and then they take his friend, and then he has to come back, and thenhis kills everyone and then..." Excellent! Stop. Let's make that amovie! But it's not only that, the motivation doesn't seem credible. I mean,he isn't killing half a dozen people for money, nope! He does it torelease his old partner. That would be fine, if the film actuallydemonstrated that they worked together, that they have some sort ofbond, any reason to be believe they are somehow fused together, blood-brothers of sorts. Well, that's not it at all. Instead the movie opensto them shooting people then ... We are supposed to fill in theblanks... a great load of blanks. It's a crossword without hints. Then there are characters that just are. They are nothing more thanpylons. For instance the client's son just has absolutely no point tothe story. He doesn't motivate, he doesn't provide action or incentive, nor does he bring the story forward. Even when the story gave him achance to act, he doesn't. If anything he is more like a pylon that theroad crew forgot. He's just there, a figure someone forgot to takeaway. And then there's Statham's character, who is just like every othercharacter ever portrayed by Statham, the unemotional-cookie-cutter"action-hero". Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but it doesn't go anyfurther than that. His objective is to kill a series of men in the SASto avenge the killing of the client's sons. So, they kill one, killanother, then a third, but suddenly he goes Batman on us, and for somereason doesn't want to harm anybody anymore. He changed his ways. Butwhy? Answer: (info not available).Something that was hilarious was that the story is based on a "truestory". I'm going to put true story in quotations, because the plot isbased on a tell-all novel some guy wrote. Although no one can eitherconfirm nor deny any of the information. So the term "based on a truestory" is used pretty openly. To be more specific the opening titlecould have opened with: "based on the ramblings of a man that claimsthat his story is true although nothing has yet been confirmed". If myneighbour tells me he was abducted by aliens, I don't take his storyand make a film about it claiming it all to be true; no, instead I callthe psychiatric hospital hot-line. But it's the age of conspiracies, big government, covert-ops and it's all so sexy. Then, just when you think the film is over, Boom! A twist that no onewould see coming, nor would they want to. Then the movie keeps going, for another 20 minutes more than necessary. In all, everything is below par. For a film with such a spectacular andtalented cast, "Killer Elite" shoots and misses.

Killer Elite: Your Usual Statham Dose

In Killer Elite, Jason Statham plays Danny, a mercenary-for-hire who isthrust back into the action when his old friend Hunter (Robert De Niro)is captured. In order for Hunter to be released, Danny needs toeliminate British S.A.S. agents who are supposedly guilty of murderingthe sons of a powerful sheik in the Middle East. Spike (Clive Owen) isdispatched by an underground council to intercept Danny and his crew. When two killers are let loose, who wins? As expected, Killer Elite excels in action just like other JasonStatham movies. For every five minutes, there's a shootout, or a guy'shead gets bludgeoned. It actually goes to great lengths to make thekills spectacular and unconventional. However, it is also thisconcentration on action that prevents the film from being more thanaverage. Conversations are not really that deep, and personalities ofthe main characters were not really that fleshed out. For example, weget how Danny is as a person, but more background on Spike would havebeen interesting. Who is he really, and why did he become the way heis? Moreover, the nature of killing could have been explored more. After all, the title is Killer Elite.Cast of characters is quite an assortment. Statham is atried-and-tested lead while everyone knows Owen can pull off a villainanytime. All films become better just because of Robert De Niro'spresence. Yvonne Strahovski plays Anne, Danny's love interest. It isgood Yvonne's getting decent exposure in Hollywood, but she was heavilyunderused. At the start of the story, it says that Killer Elite is based on a truestory. It may have been a highly sensationalized version, but at leastwe can be assured that there is a grain of truth to what they areshowing. Somehow, films based on real life are able to remind us thatcomplicated situations need not be concocted by the mind but areeveryday things. Shady decisions are really made for countryprosperity.Killer Eilite shows that everyone is a potential killer. Killing isalso messy, and not just in the literal sense. It leaves tracks, makesa lot of people investigate for information, causes psychologicalproblems and traumatizes children. Contrary to the tagline "May thebest man live," there is no best man. Everyone just lives or dies withtheir mistakes.Verdict: Watch if you are action hungry. Abstain if other things aremore important for you in a movie.
