Aaron Davis (Steve Sandvoss) and Christian Markelli (Wes Ramsey) are the two most opposite people in the world. Aaron is a young Elder (or a Mormon missionary) who wants to do his family proud and is quite passionate about his religion and film. Christian is a shallow WeHo waiterparty boy who only looks forward to bedding a new guy every night. After Aaron and three other missionaries move into the apartment across from Christian, his friends bet him 50 that he cant get one of them to jump into the sack, so he instantly latches onto Aaron. There are two problems, though - Christian is falling in love with Aaron and the Mormons are not the biggest fans of the homosexual community. Once Aaron is discovered, the two have to go through trials of regret, loss, perseverance, and forgiveness if they both want to get to the thing that matters to them most each other.

This was a very good movie. The acting from every single character wasfantastic. The writer had a great romantic idea and mixed it withcomedy very well. One of the few movies I have ever cried at. If yourinto a romantic non stereo-typical romance story this is the movie foryou. The two lead characters were perfect and made the movie worthseeing right there. with the other religious characters and thereligious parents the drama was blended in perfectly. If you don't seethis movie you will be missing out on a great touching story. I cantsay this enough. A great movie and the director/writer did a perfectjob with a perfect story. I was sad, happy, mad, excited, and I almostfelt that I was there within the movie

If you've got a box of tissues, a comfy couch, a large bowl of popcornand no social commitment on a Friday night, this is definitely yourmovie! Its romantic, its hot and its challenging. For most of us gaypeople, religion is just one of those things that we did when we werekids and probably just starred at the alter boy and how cute he was!But in Latter Days, you see the struggles of being gay when your entireworld revolves around belief's which totally contradict being gay. Thetwo main cast members were totally hot, but at the same time managed tocapture your heart and even make me 'almost' cry (I have never cried ina movie!), which I thought was quite impressive for a B grade movie. Ihighly recommend this flick, you will laugh, you will cry (unless yourme) and you will definitely drool! I love it so much I even purchasedthe DVD for my collection. Its truly the most beautiful movie ever

I have watched this movie 5 times and I still love it. I want to see it again. It made me really happy to see Aaron Davis find out about himself and come out of the closet and be happy himself. I loved it and really reccomend the movie to all and espically if you have any LDS background.

This review is from: Latter Days (Unrated Edition) (DVD) This film is exceptional in every regard. The story is sweet, emotional, and satisfying in ways that made me laugh, cry and feel. Few movies do that for me these days. While this was clearly Elder Davis' story, the growth of both main characters was clear and natural. You could feel the love and struggles both these boys experienced. This is much more than a "gay" film. It is a "human" film with situations real to anyone who has fallen in love. A must see.

I didn't what to think coming in to this movie. Given my main focus wasto see Joseph Gordon Levitt, the story also intrigued me. Not youreveryday story line and i think that's what made me want to see thiseven more. Yes i like everyone got a little misty eyed and was so happyat the end. I think this movie was well acted, well thought out interms of filming locations, set designs, casting, the whole nine yards. You could tell they put so much heart, hard work, and effort just bywatching how real they were and how much you were drawn to thecharacters and the situations going on. I really did enjoy this movieand am glad i rented it and now must buy to add to my collection that iwill soon be starting! ~! Recommended for Adults of course but forthose who love a good movie, on a "nothing on T.V. night" or justwhenever you want to watch a great movie! ~!

Steve Sandvoss and Wes Ramsey have just the right amount of chemistry to protray Aaron and Christian. The movie was funny, sad and dramatic. I found myself holding my breath at some parts and laughing uncontrolably at the next. I definately would recommend this movie. It's a very controversial movie, but very well done. I've watched this movie several times already because it's so addictive.

This is one of the best gay movies I have seen in a long time. Finally someone took the time to develop the characters and story and give it a great ending. Too bad there wasn't more nudity, but that's OK. I have already recommended this to all my friends.

I am still unsure why I am ready to forgive so many of the limitations of Latter Days. While the film has not fully realised the potential of the subject matter, I found it still had an extraordinary emotional impact. It has some very powerful scenes such as Aaron's being disgraced in the eyes of his peers, Christian's very brief meeting with Aaron's mother, and the scene [which I won't give away] set the morning after a love scene [which incidentally, was all the more intimate for all the talking rather than the sex.] It's a bit formulaic, [boy meets boy, boy loses boy etc., etc.,] and other reviewers seem to be struggling with plausibility issues. A severe re-editing could make this into a tight and powerful film but as it is, there's still a lot to like in this engaging and moving romance. I also very much enjoyed Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance in a minor role.

Despite a really annoying and overdone soundtrack and otherheavy-handed devices which can only be described as the worst of "MTVstyle", and problems with storyline and pacing, Latter Days isworthwhile viewing. Sometimes you may not know if you're watching a movie or just an overlylong video, and the movie sometimes seems it won't end, but the acting, especially by the 2 main characters, and by Mary Kay Place, is quitegood. There are a few really great scenes. The plot is at timesconfusing, but its saving grace is that it doesn't rely on pat answersto some troubling questions about gays and the Mormon church.

This is an awesome movie. I am currently working in Afghanistan, totally separated from this aspect of my life. I bought this movie online, and fell in love with it the first time that I watched it. Now I watch it every chance I get. I'm now waiting on the Soundtrack. I hate to see this movie end, and thank C. Jay Cox for creating such a wonderful movie. Thank you...

I went into this film not expecting much from it. By the ending my eyes were so swollen with tears I could barely see. Most of the reviews here tell the story of this wonderful film. I don't think I can add anything more to this from a plot standpoint. What I can tell you is how the film itself touched my heart an soul like no other has in a very long time. Wes Ramsey and Steve Sandvoss give honest raw emotional performances that will stay with you long after you watched the film. Sandvoss' portrayal of tortured emotions between his religion and being true to himselfis absolutely haunting. His sweet boy-nextdoor looks and gentle nature will have you living every agonizing minute of this ordeal right along with him. Truly a testament to this guys ability to draw you in tight and make you believe. This guy is truly a treasure and I hope to see more of him in other things. The feelings I had at the end of this film are as close to nirvana as any story as ever taken me. A Truly Lovely experience.

On a whim, I paid for rhis movie on pay-per-view. As I began watching it, I was immediately hooked! I couldn't stop watching! This movie made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me want to scream! Any movie that can make me do all this is worth the money! I ran out a few days later and purchased this movie for myself. Now, I watch it about once a month if not more! If you're like me and enhoy a movie that can pull you into it like you are one of the characters. You feel the movie in your heart, then you'll love Latter Days!

It was 2am when one of my friends said, hey, let's watch this movie. He'd seen it before and I protested, but to no avail. As I sat watching it, I fell in love with the characters and their struggles. The movie takes you through so many emotions. As I was sitting on the couch, I just started bawling. It's so deeply moving and emotional. No matter what your take is on being gay, this movie is a must see. It isn't some anti-Mormon movie or a "look at how gay we can be." It's one of the most touching and inspiring films I've ever watched.

Of course, I can only give my personal opinion, but...Poor acting + clichéd claptrap + lack of chemistry + gay and Mormonstereotypes + a lack of respect for other people's beliefs +oversimplification of complex issues + sorely underdeveloped andunbelievable characters + mean-spirited jokes + inane dialog +internalized homophobia + cheap plot devices + embarrassingself-importance= one horrible, awful, disappointing waste of celluloidI am amazed at some of the positive reviews, but I guess that is whythere are so many flavors of ice cream. I'm only giving it a threebecause of the cute boy (Steve Sandvoss), though it took long enoughfor his shirt to come off...

Honestly, at first, I watched this movie because of the gratuitous sexscenes I heard it possesses but by actually watching the film, it justmade me realize that there are still good and sensible movies outthere. Truly, it is one of the most well-crafted and touching moviesI've ever watched. I'm a teenage bisexual and the film spoke to meabout my predicaments - sex, religion, love, acceptance, etc. It gaveme an idea on how to deal with these issues with the help of my selfand others around me who love me for who I am. Cox really handled themovie well by sprinkling dozes of heart-warming lines and a bit ofsexuality in it. It made the movie more interesting. Some peoplecompare it to Brokeback Mountain but I don't agree myself. BrokebackMountain has more drama while Latter Days is well-balanced.

I didn't love everything about this film. In fact, the first time I saw it, I felt it was lacking in depth. But the second time I watched it, many little moments shone through and I saw the depth of emotion being prtrayed.First, Payton's performance as Andrew really hit a few times. When he first starts warming up to Christian (as Christian grows more confident) by responding to Christian's teasing, I thought this was some complex and genuine emotions. There's a great "you bitch, okay, let me see that" moment. Second, I liked Aaron's genuineness when Bisset's character is suffering and he knows he doesn't have anything to make her feel good. I also like the fact that he put Bisset's character's needs ahead of his own agenda of converting people. Finally, I thought the best moment was between Aaron and his mom (Mary Kay Place) as Place's character begins to comprehend the suffering of her son and begins to get past her prejudices. After my second viewing, I fell in love with the film. Worth owning.

This review is from: Latter Days (Unrated Edition) (DVD) This is truly one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time, gay themed or otherwise. The story is beautifully told, and is sweet, romantic, and has a wonderful ending. Wow, a gay themed movie where the characters aren't all angry or miserably unhappy! So many gay themed movies I've seen are so depressing. I love this movie because it has an upbeat feeling to it; that's why I watch a movie, to be entertained and to feel good.

This movie was: trite, banal, insulting, condescending, preachy, boring, predictable, and stupid. The whole thing had the emotionalsophistication of a Spanish-language soap opera (no offense Telemundo.)And it had the plot complexity of an episode of Blue's Clues. I thinkthis movie is to the gay community what House Party 2 is to the blackcommunity. Can anyone honestly compare this to an (even marginally-) competentnon-gay movie in quality? Gay people as a group (that's me, too) needto be more willing to be honest about the quality of movies marketed tothem. Unfortunately there are many awful gay-themed movies out there, and many of them receive accolades. This is one of those.

C. Jay Cox (who also wrote Sweet Home Alabama) brings us a touching, heartwarming love story about Aaron, a closeted Mormon missionary, played by the handsome and endearing Steve Sandvoss, who falls for aWest Hollywood, pretty boy, Christian, Wes Ramsey, while spreading thegospel in and around 'Sodom and Gommorah', Los Angeles. The twocultures collide and the storyline, although a bit contrived at times, touches on some serious issues like, faith, homosexuality, AIDS, andteen suicide, but with a soft touch and is never forced upon you butopens it up for discussion and thought. C. Jay Cox grew up Mormon andbrings us this story from his own personal views and draws upon his ownexperiences to tell the tale of love and redemption. It's too bad thatthere wasn't a theatrical as well as a director's cut of this film asthis could've made a great mainstream movie and should be seen byeveryone.Unfortunately, it never made it to most theaters most likely due to thefact of the nudity, gay sex, and a couple of surreal sexual scenes. Inany event, it has found its way to DVD and I highly recommend this toanyone, gay or straight.Aaron lands in L.A. with three other 'elders', willing to give uptelevision, radio, newspapers, etc left only to study and spread theLord's word. After moving into the same complex as Christian, the cuteparty boy who has an appetite for one night stands, and his best friendJulie, an upcoming singer, sparks and sexual tension begin to rise.Christina tells his pals at the restaurant, Lila's, they all work at ofhis newfound complex mates and one of them bets he can't bed one of the'elders' and all bets are on. As the story unfolds we find out Aaronhas suppressed his homosexual tendencies and he frequently wakes atnight to watch Christian arrive home with one of his tricks. It isn'tuntil Christian gets injured and Aaron takes him in, cleans his wounds, and the sexual tension between them begins to heat up. Moments theymeet while doing laundry they discuss various issues regarding faith, love, and commitments and Christian begins to realize there's more tolife then just one--night stands and casual sex. One of his friends isinvolved with a meal delivery program to AIDS patients and Christian, with his new outlook on life, begins to help out. There are somewonderful exchanges between him and his client that are reallytouching.Further along the story the other elders catch Aaron and Christian in apassionate embrace and with that Aaron is shipped back home andexcommunicated from the church. Tensions rise with his family andthere's a fine performance by Mary Kay Place as his mother who neverwaivers with her position and religious beliefs. She fails to accepther son. Christian meanwhile is heartbroken and tries to reach him, ashis friend Julie begins to make it in the music industry, and life goeson. Will Aaron's family finally accept him? Will Christian find truelove and with who? Will Julie make it big in the biz? These are the'Latter Days of Our Lives'. A wonderful story that is both heartwarmingand charming I can't recommend it enough. A perfect date movie! The film also features some great supporting roles with JosephGordon-Levitt (kid from Third Rock from the Sun) as one of hismissionary brethren, Jacqueline Bisset, owner of 'Lila's', a restaurantwhere Christian and his friends work and hang out, Mary Kay Place,Aaron's mother, and Rebekah Jordan, who gives a terrific performance asChristian's best friend and confident. The movie also features a finesoundtrack with songs written by C. Jay Cox, one performed by Toad theWet Sprocket, among others. The DVD extras also include 3 music videosby Rebekah Jordan whose voice is strong and mesmerizing. Also includedon the DVD are a featurette, a short film, trailers and a commentarytrack.
