Great and awaiting for more!

Sure, I don't know who the three roommate characters are (or Cece) but'New Girl' is primarily about Jess (Zooey Deschanel), right? After Zooey's appearance in Bones and movies like, "Elf" and "500 Daysof Summer" I definitely have proof of Zooey's varied acting repertoire. She can act, be funny and sing! This TV show has funny lines with Zooey taking the 'Most ADORKABLE"award. I love the characters, too! It's so refreshing to have a showwhich has scenes that incorporate music into the episode withoutbreaking into 'musical number' The only part of the premise I cannot get past is how Jess finds the 3guys off the internet. However, I cannot wait for the series to progress so I can get into thedepth of the characters. I would love to see romance blossom betweenJess and Nick (ala Ross and Rachel in Friends- minus the 'on-off'part!)Oh, more music from Zooey would be great, too! (:Enjoy! (:

I have not missed an episode!!

I rate this up to 10 just because I LOVE IT, and I love Zooey eversince... I am quite sad to know that there are very poor reviews forthis show cause most is not true, well at least for my point of view. ILOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT. I don't care if they say Zooey'scharacter needs depth, I think the character has it, in its own way...I'll keep watching this show...forever.This show has given me something to look forward to every weekend (ourtime) and it has not failed me yet. I love all the characters, I likethe idea of Nick being put up with Jess, I also like Schmidt, he'sweird, yeah but it would not have worked if it was written another way.I did miss Wayans cause I already liked him during the pilot, butLamorne is not bad at all.I am no critic, but I love this show, the way it is. The writer has putan effort into it, the cast, everybody in the show, so this reviewserves as my appreciation to their work, well done everyone.. I needmore of the show though..

Too soon to call?

I want to withhold judgment to some extent, but those who arecriticizing the show make valid points. Nonetheless, some of thecritiques seem a bit premature. I mean, do we really expect thecharacters to be fully developed by the end of the first one or twoepisodes. Wouldn't it make more sense that we will gradually get toknow what drives their quirkiness. Yes, so far, I do think Nick is moreinteresting, but Jess may still come along in time. I don't think she'sthe kind of character that is going to reveal all that's under herzaniness immediately. The truth is that Zooey Deschanel's magnetism iswhat has drawn most of us to watch, and the assumption is that thiswill make us like the show more even if it is bad. Ironically, however,I think it may have the opposite effect at the same time, making usmore critical because we want it to be immediately as amazingaltogether as Zooey Deschanel. Maybe this is just over psychoanalyzing, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of the strong reaction.Again, I see the points of critiques, but I still smile and laugh agood deal during the show, and, as most shows aren't great from episodeone, I can still see it developing into a truly lovable show. And yes,in many ways the formula has been done before, but since when do wedemand revolutionary new formulas for every sitcom we might enjoy? I'vegiven it a 7 because I am enjoying it and plan to keep watching, butI'll withhold further judgment, hoping to maybe add a star or twobefore it's over.

Awesome and Funny

I found this comedy to not only make me laugh but it managed to be attimes very cute but not sickly. The first American sitcom I have seenmanage this balance, it is pleasant and inoffensive. There were times when I couldn't watch because of the cringe factor, which is something that many US sitcoms often lack. OK the lads are notBAFTA winners, but we have to admit that but Zooey is amazing and farfrom steals the show and makes up for the lads and lets face it, she'sthe girl next door. Men want her and women want to be her. There were moments I cried with laughter. Well done for finally makingthis and please hurry up and make a second season.Jinni

Zoe mugging for money

I will not post insults without a developed criticism. Here are myproblems. She is like a piece of candy but I need more substance thaneating all of her sugary fake "acting". Her character is who she is inlife and that is not tolerable for this amount of time on the tube forme. Zoe may be a funny side character or bit player but she makes mytummy ill with all of the fake sugary stupid mugging. Way too fake andfull of "image" blink blink blink with the over the top eyes and thestupid look of being so out of it? The bangs the eyes the silly outfitsand the "i'm so out of it" look. Just STOP IT and try 'acting" insteadof making yourself a "brand". I do not care if she makes tons of moneyor is super famous. She is not an actor that takes her craft seriouslybut is looking for a hook...has found that hook and won't get off of itand give it a rest. Seriously ZD.....give it a go and try somethingdifferent to prove to us that you have a thought besides the singlebeat that u won't put down.

Maybe it's because I'm British...

You would think this would be perfect for me - I'm a 21 year old girlwho LOVES random crap - but this show just... sucks. Zoey is provingyet again that she can't act, she plays the same 'ditzy, cute randomgirl' in every movie. She does things in this that infuriate me. A lotof people out there are going to watch this and think OMGZZ SHE'S SOOOOFUNNY AND RANDOM!!! I even grimaced at some of the things she does. Shetries to make her character funny by singing at random times andquoting 'nerdy' movie lines. It doesn't come off as funny though, itcomes off as WOW you're trying too hard to be random. The only character I like in the whole series so far is Winston. Heactually made me laugh out loud and definitely made me smile. I guesshe's the one who's keeping me watching this crap attempt at comedy.Don't like it if you dislike Zoey - you'll hate her even more.

martind1 (17 May 2012)

Poor acting from the main character

Overall it's a pretty funny show but Zooey Deschanel is too busy overacting. The supporting cast does a good job, as do the writers butDeschanel is too over the top. Trying to hard to sell bad jokes and actcooky. She needs to calm down and tone it down and the show would bepretty good. The supporting cast of her three male roommates and model best friendare solid role players. Max Greenfield is great as a typical "financeguy" jerk. Jake M. Johnson is a good wise old sage of a roommate who isthe smartest of the bunch but for some reason has limited himself to bea bartender. Lamorne Morris is a good glue guy. Has a certain level ofcool about him but is good to hold the group together and play whateverrole is needed for the story line. Hannah Simone plays the Deschanel'sbest friend who happens to be a model. OF course the roommates all gogaga over her.

New Girl: Is There Anything New Here?

TV comedies --- they're so many that you can't possibly watch them allunless you're unemployed and don't sleep regularly. The real questionright now is which one has something new and exciting to offer. How about New Girl? New Girl is about Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a womanwho moves in with three guys to deal with her break-up issues. It is not every day that someone as well-loved as Zooey Deschanel getsher own TV series. She may not be up there with the Oscars people butshe has legions of fans that will support whatever material she appearsin. Thankfully, these fans will not be disappointed. She takes on hercharacter Jess with such familiarity. Jess is without a doubt oneeccentric lady, but one whose innocence and frivolity get to you. Ifind it odd that she would be dumped by her ex Spencer (IanWolterstorff), but let us just assume that he was intoxicated duringthe time he made the decision and was not thinking very clearly. =) The show relies on awkward humor to keep you watching, and for the mostpart, it works. I am happy to say that it doesn't have a laugh track. Ithink we have enough of those already and it gets in the way ofdetermining whether a comedy is actually funny or just supposedlyfunny. Regarding Zooey's support, her crew of guys seem to haveinteresting personalities, but given that the pilot is only 20 minuteslong, it is not enough to determine whether they will be a goodcomplement or just bring disaster. The concept of the show is likable, although not the most original. Somehow, I can't help but think aboutRyan Reynolds' Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place in the late 1990s.One thing that I hope New Girl can overcome is becoming repetitive.Aside from Jess going on random dates and the guys helping her, whatelse can happen? To answer the question I posted earlier, no, there isn't something newabout this show except we get to be treated to a regular dose of ZooeyDeschanel (which is good if you're a fan but sort of worthless if youaren't). However, don't get me wrong. I liked watching the pilotepisode of New Girl. I didn't find myself gasping for breath or fallingoff my seat, but it definitely has its funny moments. Jokes were not asflat as I expected them to be. Many people were skeptic about theshow's future but since that it has already been given a full seasonorder, I expect it to at least last another season.Give it a shot, folks. And keep your fingers crossed. We want more ofour Zooey!

Arwa Sora (15 May 2012)

Good start.

I'm not usually the kind who watches new shows. I like to wait for aseason at least to be out so I can know beforehand what I'm expecting. But I decided to give this show a chance because of Zooey. I'm not abig fan of her. I think she is adorable but tend to play the same typeof character a lot. So I was looking forward to seeing her be adifferent character.First, I'd have to say she is not really different much. She is stillbeing the quirky and eccentric weirdo who is (luckily) very cute.As for my general opinion of this show, it is a funny show. Not sohilarious. It just had its moments. There are some smart and funnyideas that are very entertaining. But there are a lot of clichés too.The same old story of a girl surrounded by over protective guys andhave a super model friend. But I liked the characters in general. They all have their ownpersonality. And they are the kind that grows onto you. And you findyourself rooting for them. This show can turn to be a great show if they stayed away from theclichés. And I think the best way for that is that they don't set upZooey with any of her roommates. And if they do, they should let ittake a long time before that happens with a proper development. In conclusion, a light-hearted funny show.

New Girl-New Show with potential

Okay, this certain section is entirely a result of all the otherreviews. I have been following this series since the pilot and I foundthe this to be entertaining. The story of a girl, who after a break upshares an apartment with three bachelors...how they get together like afamily, this is all the story is about. Now the story might not attractthe male population out there, but guys you are not really the targetaudience. This show is meant for the girls, and they will love it. Asfor the acting, Zooey Deschanel is adorable as Jess. Nick, Schmidt &Winston might not be Sam and Dean Winchester, but they are not badeither. My suggestion-sit through the show for a few episodes, you'lldefinitely like it.

Not new at all

I really like Zooey Deschanel and all but this is just an awful show.Acting is irritating to say at best. Characters are also irritating andboring as hell. Zooey's character especially. The whole concept of theshow is nothing new and refreshing. "New Girl" is not funny orentertaining at all. Far from it. It's tragic how bad this show reallyis.I wouldn't recommend "New Girl" to anyone. Not even a Zooey's fan.Hell, not even an enemy. It's that bad. And honestly I'm surprised howhigh score this show has here on IMDb. What the hell is wrong with youpeople?! "New Girl" sucks so bad I could cry!2/10 just because I' don't give 1/10 to anything.

GameGirlX (09 May 2012)

Loved Dermot Mulroney

For me, the show is a miss and hit. I watch faithfully because I don'twant to miss out on the "hit" episodes. Last night was just that! Ilove Dermot Mulroney and feel like I am missing out because he reallyisn't exposed enough. A couple of hit big screens and some underwhelming Lifetime type movies but no series to let us get a feel forhis true life character. Whoever he is...I know I love him. He is justso appealing as a love interest prospect (for any woman). I would loveto see him stay and string out the hookup with Jess. Let all the guys look up to him and let him continue to be aninspiration to Nick but let Nick stay in the star-struck mode becausethat was actually funny. I really hate Nick's character being such aslacker. Let Nick get off his ass become a successful lawyer andcompete for Zooey's affections but in a non confessional comedic mannerso that Zooey is unable to recognize his undying love. Let Schmidt havepenis envy because Mulroney makes more money, has a better body andattracts Schmidt's love interests without trying. Let Mulroney hireWinston and fail as his mentor because Winston is incapable of gettingpast over thinking situations and have him make comedic businesserrors. Winston's character needs a pick me up because he's not gotthat "funny" going on like the others. This show is almost like watching Dorothy living with the tin man, cowardly lion and the scarecrow...so writers...be careful because afteryou've seen the "Wizard of Oz" about 10 times...It's really hard towatch without shelving it for 5 years.

Borders on annoying, but I'm still giving this girl a chance.

I tend to take a while when I write IMDb user reviews, because I takeplanning them seriously. Nevertheless I was glad to write another oneon an adult series, and this is one that I'm pleased to write about, although only partially because of the charm of Zooey Deschanel.Jessica "Jess" Day is a spunky, quirky, geeky young teacher who justcaught her boyfriend with another girl while she tried to surprise himby stripping naked in front of him. So, she breaks up with him andmoves to another apartment that she found on Craigslist. The thing is,she really hasn't changed too much since she was in Junior High School, and all three guys at her apartment are annoyed with her antics. Thoseguys are Bartender and equally jilted guy Nick Miller(Jake Johnson),corporate lawyer who thinks he's god's gift to women, Schmidt(MaxGreenfield), a former Coach of some kind(Damon Wayans, Jr.), andex-Latvian basketball team member, Winston(Lamorne Morris). Plenty hasbeen written about the sudden replacement of Damon Wayans Jr. withLamorne Morris, so there's not much that can be said... other than thefact that at least they didn't try to pull a Darren Stephens on us.There are already comparisons being made to another perky brunette whohad a sitcom around 1966(Hmm, let's see... diamonds, daisies,snowflakes,... Eh, it'll come to me.). The show and the main characterare plugged as being "adorkable," but I have to admit, I originallyfound her to be more "dork" than "adorable." In the first threeepisodes, her supposedly quirky personality was hard to tolerate atfirst. She sings out of nowhere, making up her own songs on the spot, watches sappy movies and sobs uncontrollably at them. Luckliy she hasat least one friend, Cece Meyers, a model played by the breathtakinglygorgeous Hannah Simone. This is yet another case where the secondbanana outshines the star. Luckily, not that much thanks to the bubblypersonality of Jess and the actress who plays her.

Don't get what all the buzz is about

I just completed episode 3 of New Girl, and don't get why everyone issaying this is the next best comedy out there. I agree with one of the reviewers here that the character Jess, isreally a 30-year old child. There's truly nothing endearing about agrown girl acting retarded. Sadly all three of the guys can hardly act, especially the one calledSchmidth. The roommates have no chemistry what so ever, and the storyline has been very sloppy so far. I don't even see anything funny about New Girl, but I truly hope itpicks up, since this was exactly how I felt about Will and Grace, butthat got a lot better in Season 2, and became a big hit. I actually want New Girl to succeed, and I think Zoey can do a lotbetter. Best of luck.

Joel Ritchie (06 May 2012)

Funny and worth watching, but most of the comedy has been done before.

I started the show because I LOVE Zooey, and i liked it enough to keepgoing. I noticed mainly at the start that quite a lot of the jokes andsubplots have been done before but really the actors and differentcharacters make it worth it. They are all really likable and havereally good chemistry. I was disappointed when i found that 'The Coach'would only appear in the first episode but it wasn't long until i wasused to Winston. Just one more positive, I love the theme song. It's acatchy song and i have never seen an opening quite like it. Funny show,i hope it keeps going and furthers it's boundaries. It had a strongstart and definitely has a lot more potential.

Movie Critic (04 May 2012)

Show About Mentally Challenged Girl-Child

I have watched all three episodes of this show and have figured outwhat it's about. A differently abled lady moves in with an gay man, agrown a** 30 year old and a black guy who gets replaced by anotherblack guy. The most played joke is about a jar named after a feminineproduct. Jess is a "girl" even though she is also 30 years old.All of these people are supposed to be older than me and they all actlike they are about ten years younger. I will give it an extra star forthe hotty, Zooey Deschanel. OK I might even watch it one more time forZooey Deschanel, but the whole time I will be pretending that she isher character from (500) Days of Summer instead of Jess.

SusanSp (03 May 2012)

New Girl, Old Story

This sitcom has also been played out many times before. It's been done, and overdone, and we are tired of seeing it. First, why would thesethree men need a roommate? Why would she move in with three strangers?Too contrived to be convincing. Zooey is cute, but she is exactly thesame in every single thing she is in. I kept thinking of the movie Elfand that naiveté that was at once cute and annoying. Here it is moreannoying than cute. This one will be cut from the line up soon and with good reason. At anytime, on many stations, you can find similar situation comedies playingout before your eyes. Most are done better.I don't think there can ever really be a workable remake of Friends. Itruly wish they would stop trying. It is the ruin of many careers.

Steph Key (03 May 2012)

I love this show so much!

This show is the perfect mix of hilarious quotes, misguided charactersand incredible comic actors and writers. The dysfunctional friendshipsthe characters share are brilliant, and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) hasinnumerable hilarious quirks. A brilliant show with great story lines, and just a perfect amount of silliness!I love this show so much it pains me to wait for the each episode tocome out. This show is absolutely brilliant what with Schmidt'sridiculous habits ( he does love his hair chut-en-ay), Nick's comicpessimism, Winston's competitivity, Cece's unexpected interest inSchmidt (they are an odd pairing), and Jess's adorable mannerisms, thisis a recipe for a great show!

crknt (02 May 2012)

Probably one of the funniest series

I think it is a very good show. It's been a while since I laughed thathard. I'd like to address a lot of the other reviews saying that it isnot funny and unrealistic.I feel that people rating this show badly have just been formatted byall the other series and movies. They are expecting a deep story andrealism... I think they may have been mislead by Zooey Deschanelthinking it was going to be a lot more mature. It doesn't differ muchfrom the big bang theory or How I Met your Mother in term of style. Ifanything it is better. But I don't see how you can not appreciate thesecharacters. Saying they are unrealistic is like saying the ocean isfull of water... It's a comedy TV show, not real life. So it's not avalid point in my opinion. You should take it for what it is. They are very caricatured charactersbut it doesn't stop you from getting attached to their uniquepersonality. I hope people don't get discouraged from giving it achance because of the low reviews.
