Boog? Elliot? What happened?

This review is from: Open Season 3 (DVD) Open Season (the original movie) has a fond place in my heart. It was very good, thoughtful, and enjoyable. Of course it had the easiness of introdcuing us to our new furry friends while the sequels tried to fill out back- and new stories. 2 was okay, enjoybable. 3 is meh. It tries to shoehorn adult characterizations and situations into a kid's movie and the situations and characterizations all end up being pretty cardboard. The movie finds Boog getting dissed by his buddies when he's looking forward to "guy's weekend" (how many kids are going to go, "Yeah, I can relate to that?" so he goes it alone...sorta (he takes his stuffed bear) until he meets a circus and a bear who wants to trade places with him. Yeah, it's derivative but any kid who makes it through to this point won't care. Much of the movie keeps Boog and Elliot apart, which is a mistake. Part of the charm of the original is the odd couple appeal they enjoy. The new characters that are introduced quite frankly aren't likable, especially the Llama. I felt like I needed a towel every time he was on screen (maybe that was the point). The less said about him the better. In summary, the movie is worth it if you're a fan of the series and you can get it on the cheap. But don't expect it to eclipse the first two. Go back and watch the original again if you need you're talking animal fix.

Thanks Tony!

I'm gonna take it as a compliment you can't tell the difference between Joel McHale and myself as Elliot! :D

Time to bring back the original cast.

Open season one was a great movie. Number 2 was pretty decent, but this one just kind of sucked. It had a few funny parts, but I am ready for Lawrence and Kutcher to return, enough of the sound alikes!

James Luxford (22 May 2012)

the replacement cast and almost laughable animation make for a film that has few to no distinguishing features, other than its obvious low quality.

Terrible Movie

This movie is really bad. The story is bad, the jokes were stupid and not funny, and the characters are annoying. Even the kids I watched it with got bored after half an hour of watching this movie! So for a kid's movie this is not a good choice.

I Made It Through 26 Minutes...

Just finished Open Season 1 and 2, so I felt obligated to watch thethird. I will usually watch any movie through to the end, regardless ofhow bad (...if only to see exactly how bad it will get). But 26 minutesinto this one, I stopped the movie to come here and read a few reviews. Now usually, I feel that many people like to come to IMDb and slammovies just for the sake of being mean. But I must say; in this case, Iagree with what most everyone else is saying here about this movie, andI don't feel bad that I won't be watching the rest. The voices are the first thing that throw you off, then you notice theanimation looks more like Saturday morning cartoons, just not as funny.Watch for yourself if you feel the reviews here are unfair. Afterwatching 26 minutes worth, I'd say most reviews here are beinggenerous.

Corny, cheesy, predictable and also highly forgettable!

It hasn't been too long ago since Open Season lastly got it's ownsequel, and that one became a horrible wrenched film I wish to keep outof my mind forever. Now 2 years later, we get a new one and it's morecrazier than we can imagine.Set fully short after Elliot and Giselle became husband and wife, theyhave children of their own named Gisela, Gesalita and Elvis. Elvislooks a lot like his dad and even loses not one, but two antlers justlike him. And the twins, Gisela and Gesalita, resembles their momexpect to tell the difference, one has a black nose and brown eyes andthe other one has blue eyes and a pink nose. And this of course makesBoog the uncle cause he has a brotherly relationship with Elliot.Well as the movie begins, Boog has made a plan just to hang out withthe guys, not just with Elliot, but also with Ian, Reilly, McSquizzyand Buddy. But the whole thing becomes a total waste when everyonecouldn't make it, especially Elliot who lets his partner down.Heartbroken, Boog sets out on his own for the trip, but it leads him acircus where he befriends a llama named Alistar and a bear named Doug, who looks just like Boog. But that's not the only thing missing; thereright away Boog falls crazy in love for Usla, a female Russian bear.Doug decides it's time he switches places with Boog so he can be theonly bear and become king of the forest. But right away when ithappens, everyone realizes that their old dear friend grizzly bear, ain't the same guy so they must find a way to save their pal beforeit's too late and he'll be gone to Russia forever.Like most direct-to-video sequels, you'll know that they can't makegood money, so this one goes out to the same as the other one. Cheapactors, lame story writing, and poor directing. It makes up for thesecond sequel after being so bad, but that still doesn't make the thirdsequel any good. So the new characters drop down too! After viewingthis, I hope that Sony Pictures can cut down to their ideas. They'renot good, and they never will be. So they just leave all of thedirect-to-video making to Disney cause that's what they were there forin the first place!

Apart from two characters, this one's not worth bothering with

Although it was less than perfect, I enjoyed the first Open Season. Thesecond was bland but had its moments. Apart from two characters, Rogerwho I've always liked and is quite fun here and Fifi mainly for CrispinGlover, Open Season 3 is a mess. The animation is mostly sub-par, thebackground art needed more fluidity and the character designs areblocky. The music has some jaunty moments but overall forgettable. Thewriting is poor, the jokes are neither clever or witty and the dialogueis a vast majority of the time unfunny. The story is thin, predictableand I think rushed too, and the characters apart from Fifi and Rogerare no longer likable and cute. The voice acting is mostly lifeless, with the replacement for Billy Connolly's accent embarrassinglyoverdone. In conclusion, not recommended at all sadly. 2/10 Bethany Cox

There was no reason for making this sequel...

I think this sequel was made, because they didn't have anything else todo, so someone said "Hey, let's make a sequel to Open Season, we justneed to create the animation, story will come eventually!" And thisuseless unfunny video is the result.Open Season 1 had an old cliché story, but it was rather funny, noteven near to the top though. Open Season 2 also had its moments, butthis one, it absolutely useless. Old unfunny jokes, bad story that hasnothing to do even with the name, or the 2 first ones, only charactersare the same.I, as a big animation movie fan, couldn't bare watching any furtherthan 30 minutes.Well, if this and the first two Open Seasons are the first movies youever watched you could find it funny. Other than that, it doesn't muchworth watching.

Don't Buy - Wait To Rent Or For It To Come Out On Television

Light years below the first two films in writing, directing and character developement. The movie was filled with holes in the plot that even my 9 y/o could see through. She thought it was funny in some places, but even then, most of the obvious set-ups for jokes where not funny and there where several mis-fires. She hated the spitting Llama who just plain drools and slobbers. Combined the slobbbering with his "South American" accent and it is hard to understand what he is saying most of the time. Elliot the deer is, by virtue of the story, a non-existant factor and the chemistry between him and Boog the bear that helped make the others successful is completely gone. The dialogue is meandering and forced. Don't waste your money. Rent it or wait for it to come out on television.

Good, enjoyable movie

I liked this movie, and my granddaughter really likes all 3 of these. And, she shows no preference of the three. So what, if it's not the "big name" voices. It isn't the names that get my attention. They're overpaid, anyway.I often wonder how many reviewers actually watch the entire movie, and pay attention to what is going on. I often find something funny, or just hear a few words that make me chuckle, the second time watching. This can cause a scene to have a totally different meaning. All in all, this may not have been quite as good as the original, but still a good movie. It was almost a week(from the day it was on the shelf) before I found this movie(one copy of 20+) in stock, at the local video store.

Open Season 3

This review is from: Open Season 3 (DVD) This was a cute, funny movie that the whole family can enjoy. We have all 3 Open Season Movies and each one is pretty good family entertainment. I would recommend this movie to those with or without children.

Average funny movie

I really liked Open Season 1 and 2 wasn't bad. 3 just isn't as good. It did have the funny moments though, and I really liked the donkey or llama or whatever, he was funny.

Probably the Death of a Series

Boog plans a guy's trip, but all his friends back out for one reason oranother. He goes alone and stumbles on to a circus and a beautifulfemale bear named Ursa. Switching places with a male bear named Doug, his friends in the forest soon become worried. The reviews for this film are not stellar, and I think I can sum upwhy: the original voice cast is not involved in this picture, so thecharacters sound funny. The plot is thin, and the movie comes in under90 minutes, letting you know that they didn't have a strong story (evenincluding the dogs and cats seems forced because it is not related tothe main story at all). For me, I liked the film. I don't have a strong attachment to theoriginal, so I wasn't as offended. And I think kids will like it. Sure, the voice for Boog was annoying... but then, I loved the dogs and cats,so it's a toss-up. I felt like this was going to be a launching pad fora TV series, because it has a "Madagascar" feel to it... but with itspoor reception, that may not be likely. If you have kids, let them check it out. They may be less cynical thanadult viewers, and it's not all bad. I learned what a camelid is...that may be worth the price of renting the film. But then again, maybenot. My girlfriend watched it with me and fell asleep... what does thattell you?

Why waste your money on a stinker?

This review is from: Open Season 3 (DVD) We kept yawning while watching this Sony stinker. It's probably the worst digitally-animated movie we've ever seen, and we've seen all the biggies. BUT, we did give it 2 stars and not one because it does have a few fun scenes. But, those fun scenes are too few. It's really lacking adult humor. Kids MAY enjoy it (we've got none so we can't comment). Please, don't waste your money on this movie unless you're sure your little ones might like it.

Don't bother

This movie is nothing like the previous Open Season movies! All the voices are different, and they are NOT funny! Not worth $1 at a yard sale!

When even your own daughter says its bad you better believe.

I watched OPEN SEASON 3 with a friend of mine and his daughter who wasactually a big fan of the first film and the second but this third filmI have to say was total and utter crap, I was annoyed as hell with thisfilm for two reasons and at one point my friend's daughter who is eightactually begged us to turn it off.1. The once likable Boog and Elliot have been reduced to two loud mouthoverly obnoxious idiots that are worse than a bunch off two year oldboys that throw temper tantrums and the rest of the characters wereloud and obnoxious too.2. The humor in this film was totally inappropriate for a kids movie,it was mostly a bunch of rude jokes I didn't get and I seriously doubtthat the initial target audience which I'm assuming are kids under tenwill get them either, although some kids have surprised me but itsstill not right.Overall, if Sony animation decides to bring out OPEN SEASON 4 and itsway worse than this, I would avoid their animated films like theplague.

Open Season 3

This is probably the worst cartoon movie. Boog was mad at Elliot for missing "Guys Trip" so he ran away and joined the circus. There he fell in love with an ugly, gross, serious, and wierd bear named Ursa. Then a bear named Doug escaped from the circus and thought he was "King of the Forest" it was wierd. That's basicly all that happened. This is coming from a kid who LOVED Open Season 1 and Open Season 2. I wouldn't buy this.
