See for yourself

By the time you read this review, you already know what the movie isabout so there's no point going over that again. You know it's supposedto be a courtroom drama and a personal one as well as we take a lookinto Mike Weiss' demons and struggle with his drug addiction. ChrisEvans' performance alone is worth the price of admission, but the movieitself, although well-intentioned, fails to deliver. It seemed asthough the filmmakers didn't know how to make the two story linesconverge coherently and thus gave us a shallow passage through bothwith an ending that.... Well, I leave it up to you to comment on itafter you've seen it. Make no mistake, the movie is worth your time. But don't expect to be shaken or astounded by it; just go and enjoy agood piece of cinema that had great potential but didn't fully live upto it.

The movie is too short!

At the end of the movie we learn that way too many hospitals are stillnot using any similar safety needles of any kind. The movie should havedelved into this further. The closest hospital to where I live is a not-for-profit that isanything but not-for-profit when it comes to its corporate structure. They are constantly building new pavilions, because they have to dosomething with all the money they have. But, do they have safetyneedles? No! The last thing they care about is their employees. Infact, if a patient registers a complaint about one of its employees, the patient's word is taken as fact and a bad mark goes into theemployee's record immediately. It's all about patient satisfaction atthe expense of the employees. This same hospital systematically takesaim at the older employees and seeks out reasons to get rid of them, because the health insurance for the employees is self funded, whichmeans there is no buffer(insurance company) between the employer andthe employee. Older people start using the system more. So, if you run across an employee of the hospital in your area, askthem if the hospital is supplied with safety needles. If they don't,then you are seeing just one of many hospitals that don't give a damnabout their employees. If you think they care about you as a patient, don't. They only care about the money they would lose if you goelsewhere.

A schizophrenic movie

There are two main stories going on here and several minor ones, all atthe same time, competing for center attention; one is the main lawyerMichael Weiss, played by Chris Evans and his personal life as a drugaddict, the other main story is the injustice of Corporate America. Wehave seen this story a few times, most prominently in my mind at thepresent is Travolta in Civil Action, or the Julia Roberts film, ErinBrockovich, both which were executed much more professionally. It is ashame that this film fails, that it can't sort itself out, and decidewho it wants to be about; tell which story, as there is a story herethat needs to be told in that it has an entertainment value as well asa an important message about injustice that is perpetrated in the nameof greed. The stories converge around Act II; after this collision you can barleykeep your interest on the main point. The Evil Monopoly that disregardsHuman compassion and decent action for the sake of greed, our hatred ofthose who act in such a way and become part of such a system. Insteadwe get to know the final outcome of the real important story in a fewline of text right before the credits roll.We are left wondering questions like, should drugs be legalized, or didCorporate America somehow produce this movie and have the story splitup into so many personalities to take our focus off the main issue?

Evans works so hard to look like a drug addict that it undermines the character's effort not to look like one.

A Mediocre Documentary

As the official story line suggests this is a story regarding the fightof a few small lawyers against a behemoth Medical Company. This movie is recommended if you like seeing documentaries and you willend with a little understanding of what happens behind the scenes inMedical Supplies.Even as a documentary, it was not up to par, they tried tosensationalize a few things and of course they had do some extradramatization to make it a movie and that detracts from the quality, ifthey had just stuck to making it like a documentary it might have beena far better movie. The biggest problem was the script and the editing, it was as if theywere unsure of how to tell the story. As a result you are alwaysfeeling that something is amiss, and this causes the movie to loose itsfeel of credibility. And the acting does not help either. So if what you want is some entertainment, please skip this movies.

Evans's soulful performance keeps Puncture from overdosing on righteous indignation.

great story - actor problem

the star of this movie is the story itself. not the actors! i found themain character with his perfect male body, highly skilled legal mind, tattoos and street drug addiction way too incongruous to be takenseriously and to be believable. maybe in a straight porn or gay pornstory, but not this story!so at the start of this flick i was not liking it at all. but i stuckwith it due to it's most compelling storyline and the two well meaninglawyers taking on a corrupt American corporate behemoth on behalf ofvictimized health care workers.let me guarantee anyone considering watching this movie that you willbecome most intrigued by the plot as it becomes ever more destructiveto our two protagonist and eventually the antagonist.i do not want to get into the details of this movie because the otherreviewers have covered that and i feel a 'review' should be more abouthow a film affected the viewer. once i grasped what the two lawyerswanted to do i was hooked on watching it to the end. as i stated first,it's the story that makes this movie a real watcher!

Edward Douglas (05 May 2013)

The topic of safety needles is certainly an important one but not one that makes for very interesting drama; the Kassens would have been better off making a doc and having Evans narrate it.

"Puncture'' is based on an actual court case. But is this a story best served by focusing on the legal battle or the arc of Mike's flawed hero?

valleyjohn (04 May 2013)

A courtroom drama with no courtroom and no drama.

Described by Sky Movies as a thrilling courtroom drama , all i canthink is that person who does the film descriptions for Sky ,can't havewatched this film. Puncture has everything going for it. It has a Goodcast and potentially a good story but directors Adam and Mark Kassenhave made a real pigs ear of this one. This is the story of Mike Weiss , a talented lawyer , who with hispartner , chose to take on the might of the drug companies and hospitaladministrators to get them to use a syringe that will save thousands oflives. The trouble is , Mike Weiss is partial to using needles himselfas he has a bad drug habit. The Mistake they made with this film is they concentrated too much onWeiss and not enough on the battle with pharmaceutical companies. Thefilm builds up the story to the point of an exciting court case then Itjust ends Finish,. No court case .Just a lazy bit of on screeninformation at the end describing what happened. It's as if the moneyran out and the directors and cast just walked away.Puncture is a big disappointment and it's no surprise this was tuckedaway on a movie channel and not on the cinema.

A riveting legal drama that easily represents Evans' best work.

Waste of PRECIOUS TIME!

Superfluous acting by Evans. You may or may not be entertained by hisidiotic and excessive drug use which is heavily panned out. I mean, OKwe get it, hes a junkie, get on with the story... and bam! you get alukewarm ending to an uninspired plot. Some of the reviews here areunreliable and shady which made me watch it in the first place!Doesn't come close to the entertainment value of Erin Brockovich. Atotal waste of time..Synopsis: A David and Goliath law drama about a drug-addicted lawyerwho takes on a health supply corporation while battling his ownpersonal demons.

Marshall Fine (24 April 2013)

The issue at hand is not particularly cinematic...And the personal story is handled in a way that seems surprisingly impersonal, even superficial.

visanchezdiaz (23 April 2013)

Potentially heartbreaking

Yes is true, Chris Evans doesn't cut as the drama actor or the bestperformer, or so I thought. His performance here completely changed myperception about him, definitely worth the time to watch, not just as aweekend movie or a "not-a-better-thing-to-do" movie, but as an actualground-shaker. He does get in the role and you believe him. I'm notgoing to spoil you the movie, but I must add that at a point you get tofeel sorry for the pour bastard trapped in his drug addiction yetfollowing a more than just cause despite all odds, makes you wish hegets better and solves the case, you know... the happy ending; but itis a true story and the happy endings are for fairy tales, at least inthe shoes of the hero in this pic. Very real, emotional to a certainpoint, leaves you with some feelings of anguish and for my personalappreciation, it's a potentially heartbreaking story.

Owen Gleiberman (19 April 2013)

This true-life film is a likable oddity: a rambling, low-budget Erin Brockovich with a cokehead hero.

Prairie Miller (18 April 2013)

No stranger to drug paraphernalia himself, Evans as danger junkie Weiss is deep into coke and hookers, when not stumbling into court ready to rumble over suspect syringes. Captain America sticks it to the differently dangerous medical establishment.

An Absolute True Gem

This movie was written by Paul Danziger and is based on true events. I can't stress enough how important it is that you see this movie; andhow much it will change your mind or open your mind to the horror thatis going on everyday. This movie has beautiful cinematography, abeautiful story with a great moral."Sometimes the brightest light shines in the darkest places," is areoccurring theme in this movie and is really pushed home. The actorsdo an amazing job of bringing home the point as well. They acting is a10/10, Cinematography 10/10, the story line is a 20/10, the directingis a 10/10 and there really is no excuse for you not to see this movie. It really is a hidden gem and I wish I could have seen it in thetheaters.

Larry Silverstein (16 April 2013)

Important Message--Based on a True Story

This film, starring Chris Evans and Mark Kassen, and based on a truestory, reminded me of the movie "A Civil Action", with John Trovolta,as a small law firm tries to take on a giant conglomerate. In this case, the conglomerate is a medical company that has suppressedthe use of a safety hypodermic needle, that could save healthworkers, such as nurses and technicians, countless injuries and evendeath. The reason, of course, is profit margin, in that the less safeneedles yield a higher return. All the principal players in this drama are on target in their roles.Watching the interplay between the dedicated and driven Evans who isbattling a debilitating drug addiction, and his more centered andcautious partner Kassen is rewarding. The film. I thought, gets a little preachy but tells a powerful andimportant true story.

lilicedude227 (14 April 2013)

Good movie but not perfect

Puncture tells the true story of Mike Weiss. Mike Weiss is a lawyer anda drug addict. He has started a case against a major medical supplycompany. For not supplying hospitals with safety needles that couldprevent hundreds of thousands of disease infections each year frompatients to nurses. The story is definitely a legal drama no matter what you have heard. Itmight not be your typical legal drama with all the cliché's you areused to, but is that really a bad thing? The story keeps you interestedin whats going to happen to the case and whats going to happen to Mike.Chris Evans does a good job creating a character and making you carefor the character. Even if the character always does not make the rightdecision. Evans portrays Mike Weiss as a flawed anti hero. Yet youwonder if he is fighting this case because he wants to help others orif he wants to help himself.I really liked this drama, especially since it was a true story.Especially since the project was started by Mike Weiss's real lifepartner who had no connections to Hollywood, but worked very hard toget this movie made which has a very important message.I gave this movie a 7 out of 10 because while it is a good movie, itdoes movie a little slow. The ending is also abrupt and I think itcould have been longer. But if you are a fan of Chris Evans, please seethis movie. He takes this role very seriously and you could tell heworked hard at this movie. You will not be disappointed in him.

thank god Chris Evans is casted in this one

because Chris Evans is casted in puncture i saw it. its not that i am avery big fan of his but the subject of the movie is exactly theopposite of my current mood. after watching 12 continuous Koreanromantic comedies thank god i dared to watch this movie. i am not gonna talk about film-making here but the guy who madedifference and saving millions of lives every year worldwide isportrayed in very unexpected manner. and its surprisingly true story.its one of that story of a guy who silently changes the world for hisown reason. watch it if you like to know about world changers.
