A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks.
alanadamsloco (25 May 2012)
Okay this movie is very predictable. The CG sharks are worse then theshark from jaws one. they're a bunch of mistakes and flaws in thismovie. With out giving anything away the best part of this movie isthat there was five girls that where there and screamed (it was veryfunny). The acting is kind of cheesy, but bearable. The only thingdescent about this movies is that they did an alright with using andincluding 3D I do not recommend this movie to anyone, but if you still go make sureto watch all the credits there is a bonus at the end. p.s. this is not a horror film it is a bad comedy

Seven friends load swimsuits and beer for a weekend at an islandbeach-house in the Louisiana Gulf. Debauchery turns into one hell-of-anightmare few will survive. One of the friends loses an arm in whatappears to be a skiing accident. Before the blame is laid on thick itis discovered that the waters are infested with toothy and vicioussharks. The shocked vacationers in their panic will seek help for thewounded and get in touch with the local sheriff(Donal Logue), whoactually has teamed with some area good old boys to terrorize thecollege kids. The trailers will suck you into this shark frenzy. Thehighlight for many will be the chance to almost see the lovelyKatharine McPhee(of American Idol notoriety) get undressed. Some prettygrisly scenes of hungry sharks doing what they do. This movie is toomuch like so many others. Included in the cast: Sara Paxton, DustinMilligan, Sinqua Walls, Christine Quinn, Alyssa Diaz and Chris Carmack.I'm not saying this isn't fun to watch.

On spring break, a group of college kids at a cabin in the countrysideare assaulted, mauled & eaten by vicious sharks that roam the lake. Butas they soon find out, once the night goes on, the sharks are the leastof their problems, when another threat emerges...SHARK NIGHT 3D prettymuch came & went from theatres & is now mostly forgotten about by genrefans & although I liked the film, I can see why, the film althoughgenerally well acted & directed & featuring some suspenseful moments, also does what most Hollywood produced horror film are scared to do,add the gore & brutal violence that fans come to expect from a story ofit's kind. The plot as you can tell, is the same thing as one wouldexpect from a direct to DVD slasher film, kids at a cabin out in themiddle of nowhere, being terrorized & killed. But with a twist in thatit's a shark replacing the usual serial killer. The film loses it'sfooting about midway, when it tries to add a touch of DELIVERANCE tothe mix. But the reasoning behind the human villains motives are justlaughable. If it's gore you're wanting, look elsewhere, as stated abovein my review, the gore is almost non existent, with just bloodappearing in the water after a kill. Since all the kills are veryquickly done on screen or committed off. The film has some impressiveCGI sharks, is well acted & generally well directed by David R. Elliswho also helmed the much over-hyped during pre-release & now forgottenby most genre fans, killer snake flick, SNAKES ON A PLANE as well asdirecting a couple of the FINAL DESITINATION films. Neat 3D effects aswell & a set up for another sequel. All in all, this is recommended todie hard horror buffs. Others beware.***1/2 stars

Well, in my title for this review I mentioned Deep Blue Sea and LastHouse on the Left. As far as I'm concerned this film should of never been made, well it'shere and apparently by the ratings on this site it's consideredgarbage. How could this piece of trash get sent to the theatre, goodadvertising I'd say. First of all we start out with the boring usual cocky college kids withthe world in the palm if their hands, then we move onto the usual bandof country bumpkins that never got over their first crush. This film istelling me that the only reason for this band of misfits and lettingsharks into the salt water lake is because of a girl from years agothat he couldn't have sex with? Ney Ney I say to that. Stupid uponstupid. Then we have the so called "Sheriff", blending in with theteenagers that decide to go for a summer getaway at the rich girlshouse on an island. Well, you'd think the writers would learn thisfancy dancy crap doesn't work. It didn't work in Friday the 13thremake, and it doesn't work here. Showing off your richness is soboring, and undermining. Making us all think we have to be rich, is afailure to cinema in itself. Then we move onto the "Black Guy" who gets his arm bit off. Howunintelligent is this? Why are they always stereotyping black people inhorror, a bit racist. I'm not even black and I find this racist. Howannoying. Then we catch scenes from of Lilly pads growing in the water.Talk about a bad location scout. Lilly pads don't grow in salt water. Are we just all stupid idiots for watching this crap? Or is it that weare more intelligent in realizing that Hollywood Execs are playing uslike we are zombies and have no brains? I agree with the later half. To sum it all up. There is no reason for these sharks to be were theyare, second why do all this shark re-locating? Just to be a sicktwisted freak waiting for his first crush to come back? Also if therewere that many sharks in the water wouldn't other people have noticedby now, and contacted wild game authorities? Surely somebody must havecontacted the authorities after knowing that hundreds of sharks are intheir waters. At the beginning of the film we see a girl beingattacked, supposedly not noticed. But from the explanation by the localhicks they have been letting "46" species of sharks in the lake. Thisdoesn't add up, if there were that many sharks somebody would havenoticed by now considering how fully grown the sharks were. Once againbad writing, I think, I, along with everybody reading this review couldcome up with a better script. We are much smarter than these hackhorror writers. I wouldn't even call them writers, my 8 year old kidcould write a better story.Well I could go on forever of what is wrong with this story, but in theend, to my logic, the actors/actresses were very good, film directionwas decent, but the story lacked explanation. At least Deep Blue Seaand Last House on the Left, had meaning and explanation. This film isall over the place. If I could give it a zero out of ten I would. A waste of my time.

There is only one thing I can say about this movie - how this movie gotto be made is beyond me and all of humanity. This is the pinnacle ofFAIL!! Without today's imaginations and technology how did this moviepass the script stage. Not only is the script horrible, the acting ispainful to watch; the events are so unrealistic and so poorly thoughtof and executed that this should be rated as an F movie if there issuch a rating. Piranha 3D was over the top; it was tongue in cheekmovie; it was fun, gory and entertaining - Shark Night 3D doesn't comeclose to anything. It felt like this movie never took off and was stuckin the beginning credits until the end credits. I won't recommend thismovie to anyone.
thss85 (22 May 2012)
I never wrote a review until now, but "Shark Night 3D" inspired me todo so.Let me tell you something, up until the third act, the film starts outpretty decent. Like "Piranha 3D", which it tries to be, it opens upwith someone getting killed, then opens up to an upbeat tune. It startsout funny, with Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katherine McPhee (thoughI liked her better in "The House Bunny"), and Chris Zylka (soon to beseen in "The Amazing Spider-Man" as Flash Thompson) handing incharismatic performances. The second act comes where the comedy takes a nosedive for the horrorto come around. Aside from a nicely acted monologue from Paxton whereher character recounts a life-affecting tragedy, director David R.Ellis (who you may remember also directed a similar tongue-in-cheekfilm, "Snakes on a Plane"), fumbles the ball when trying to jerk outtears. Especially when Malik (Sinqua Walls) explodes into a crying fitabout losing his girlfriend (it's not the levels of Tyler Perry's soapopera casserole, but it doesn't register) before going out to fight ashark.*SPOILER ALERT* But what drove the film right into the ground was thefact that the titular villains - the sharks - were almost backgroundnoise to the real villains: a redneck trio (Donal Logue, JoshuaLeonard, and Chris Carmack) who use the sharks for their reality show.Believe it or not, this is an original idea, and it could've workedwonders. However, Ellis envisions the bloodthirsty madmen as... well, bloodthirsty madmen. It's done in such a borderline cartoonish way, making them over-the-top, mustache-twirling villains, and Ellis seemsto take delight into pushing the envelope of their insane ways, even toa point where the main characters become background noise like thesharks. And hearing why one of the characters went into this professionis another clichéd revenge ploy. This concoction takes the joy awayfrom the film, and it becomes bad torture porn.***END SPOILER***

Okay, i'm sure it comes as not surprise for me to say that Shark Nightis ridiculous. And you know what? I saw that coming. And sometimes amovie can be so bad it's good, such as 2010's Piranha. But to say thatShark Night is enjoyable is never going to happen.Shark Night, like every movie about sharks that comes on SyFy, revolvesaround a group of college friends who go to a lake for spring break, only to e visited by, you know who, sharks. But not just sharks: Sharksthat can jump out of water.Shark Night may not have been one of those really bad Syfy movies thatescaped their clutches, but it definitely is, proof or not. How couldanyone let this ridiculous garbage go to theaters? Piranah worked. Why?Even though both films share some of the same traits, Piranha wasintentionally hilarious, cringingly gross, while being funny, and atotal blast. And the consistent nudity helped also.Shark Night has no form of sex, no form of really over the top bloodyblood, it's just empty. It's a really bad movie that just takes itsridiculousness to amazing levels. Shark Night is a joke, basically. Andthe joke is on them.C-

We all know the saying, expectations only lead to disappointment. Thisis one of those movies. The acting is dry. Dry as my knees, for example. And I didn't put nolotion on today. It had no story to it. There was no climax, it wasjust people dying. Which, I could have watched that on HBO. Don't wasteyour money. The good thing is, the 3-D is amazing. I loved the 3-D. But I was readyto leave the horribleness from the start of the movie. In conclusion, if you want to see great 3-D, and a sexy cast, watchthis movie. If not, don't watch it. OR wait for it to come on HBO. It'sthat sad.

Look I could easily give you a blow by blow of how stereotypical andunderdeveloped the characters are of how there is at no time in thisfilm character growth and development or character redemption takingplace or how ineffective the character acting was by the actors or howlame and overused and played out the scenes were Hell i could even talkabout the fact that shark films have been done to death but I'll save you the troublethis film was absolute GARBAGE!I thought this film was so bad I demanded from the theater my moneyback! and I got it!
Tim Prescott (20 May 2012)
The first two minutes contain a false surprise ripped straight out ofJaws and a woman killed in pretty much the same way as the first victimin Jaws, except without the suspense and impact.Cardboard characters and cartoon sharks. The sharks in Deep Blue Seawere better than this. Because there's absolutely no reason to go inthe water after you realise sharks are there, a contrivedDeliverance-style plot is thrown in.When you can guess the clever twist of each scene as the scene begins, you know you're not watching an award-winner... or a decent form ofentertainment. Therefore, after half an hour, we watched the rest ofthe film at high speed to see if there was a decent morsel worthcatching. There wasn't.I award a solitary star for managing to include some attractive girlsamongst the skeletons with skin. From now on I'll stick to the swimwearchannel for that...

Seven young and pretty undergraduates head to a secluded lakesidecottage in Louisiana to take a load off and enjoy a wild and crazyweekend away. But things take a turn for the worst when a member of thegroup is attacked by a shark. Isolated with no cell service and no helpin sight, the group quickly realizes they are on their own, but thewater around them is not safe. I wanted Shark Night 3D to be as fun as Piranha 3D was last year.Despite the PG-13 rating, I held onto a desperate hope that it wouldsomehow manage to live up to that level of gleeful insanity andabsolutely ridiculous trashiness. I knew deep down it would never beanywhere near comparable, but everything about the film suggested itwould be an enjoyable ride.Sadly, this is not the case.Instead of getting a ridiculous movie about sharks mauling pretty 20-somethings that embraces the sheer silliness of the very idea, we get adeadly serious, high-concept slasher film that seems to have no conceptof what fun is. Sure we get the typical horror movie wise ass quipssprinkled here and there, and some rather intriguing reasoning as towhy the attacks are occurring. But in-between these moments, we getstilted dialogue, wooden performances, characters with next to nodimensionality whatsoever, and just about nothing else. Despite itbeing 2011, the film feels like it belongs to a different era  onewhere it has not realized how outrageous and frivolous the genre hasbecome. It offers nothing new by way of ideas or story, and somehowthinks an ode to Jaws at the beginning of the film is appropriate. Iinitially wanted to criticize Shark Night for cribbing from Piranha. But in watching the film, it is obvious they learned absolutely nothingfrom Alexandre Aja and his crew. But while the bad story and worse acting are to be expected, what isreally disappointing is just how much of a grand tease the whole movieis. The rating may be a contributing factor, but the only thing itseems to cut out is gratuitous nudity. The T and A is still plentiful, and the film is actually surprisingly graphic in some instances. Butthe majority of deaths, the best part of any slasher film, are merelyhinted at. We see characters get pulled underwater, and just when youthink we will see their grisly end, the film inexplicably cuts to thenext scene. Hell, we do not even get the obligatory shot confirmingthat a character did indeed die. How do we know they did not manage tofight off the shark and survive to fight another day? And since thereare about ten people in the entire cast, most of which meet an untimelyend, that is a whole lot of teasing and not a lot of pay off. I canonly think of one that is explicitly shown, and even that seemed likeit was pushing it based on what happens during the rest of the film. Itis all very arbitrary, but it seems like a rather obscene faux pas onthe part of the filmmakers. Remember how comically bad and exaggerated the piranha looked inPiranha 3D? Somehow, the sharks in Shark Night 3D look even worse. There is nothing realistic about them. They look more cartoonish thananything, standing out as not even attempting to look like they belongin any of the scenes. They make memories of the shark from Jaws appearmore frighteningly authentic than I thought possible. But this is onlywhen the sharks are swimming around underwater, looking menacing andhungry . When they actually interact with the characters, they lookabsolutely absurd and preposterous. A shot involving a shark leapingout of the water to attack one of the characters as he zips by on ajet-ski looks even worse than those ludicrously awful effects you mayhave seen from Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. They may actually qualify forsome of the worst effects in the past decade. Surely the specialeffects team realized they were working on an actual movie with abudget, and not some straight-to-DVD Asylum knockoff. So what couldpossibly be there excuse for such a terrible job? I think the only thing I remotely enjoyed was how impressive theunderwater shots looked in 3D. They were clearly shot with the formatin mind, and look absolutely stunning even with a fake shark in thebackground. They frequently took me entirely out of the film, as theylook like they belong in a significantly better project. The shots arejust so tranquil and so beautiful that they may make you forget what anawful movie you are sitting through. With the exception of an over-the-top explosion, this is just about the only thing that sizzles in 3D.There are no other elements that even attempt to take advantage of theformat. When I tell you that Shark Night 3D is one of the worst films of theyear, with next to no redeeming qualities, you better believe I am notlying. I was hoping it would be somewhat fun, but instead it was one ofthe most annoying and agonizing films I have ever put myself through. The film is too serious to be enjoyable, and fails to deliver in almostevery respect. The filmmakers and cast should be ashamed of themselves. When the credits rolled, I could not leave the theatre fast enoughbecause I was ashamed to have actually watched it. Apparently there isa rap music video after the credits conclude, featuring the entirecast. Somehow, I still do not think this could make up for the travestyyou have to put yourself through to get to it. 3/10.(An extended review also appeared on http://www.geekspeakmagazine.com).

Its about time they brought out a killer shark attack movie that wasn'tjust another low budget direct to video or made for TV cheese fest butone that came out in theaters, even though SHARK NIGHT was in factreleased in theaters it is unfortunately not the kind of shark movie Ihad hoped to see in theaters, mainly because its too tame and doesn'thave a whole lot of suspense, keeping in mind this film is PG13 it wasalmost as if the producers were trying to cater to a certain type ofaudience with the wrong type of film. For instance the central characters are a bunch of college graduates intheir early to mid 20's so obviously this film was aimed at teenagersinstead of fans of killer shark films, in one way its not a bad thingin the other many people are not going to want to see a kids movie theywould want to see a suspense packed, fast pace and very intense sharkmovie and like I said SHARK NIGHT is not that movie.Overall, SHARK NIGHT isn't a terrible movie but its more of shark moviefor kids, all that we need now is a shark movie for adults.
Van Roberts (19 May 2012)
"Shark Night 3-D" bites! Unfortunately, "Snakes on a Plane" directorDavid R. Ellis plays everything straight in "Shark Night 3-D." Meaning, you had better prepare yourself for clichés galore without a smirk insight. This derivative, PG-13 rated, 91-minute, yarn concerns threestereotypical, mean-spirited rednecks who drool at the chance to feedstuck-up college kids to ravenous sharks of all sizes. Of course, mostof the ocean's deadly predators prefer to prowl the briny blue, butthese three rednecks have an illegal device that enables them toparalyze these predators, attach mini-cams, relocate them to aLouisiana salt-lake, and then wait for them to start chomping.Furthermore, they plan to make big bucks by selling their shark snuffvideos to die-hard "Shark Week" addicts after the real thing. Think of"Shark Night 3-D" as "Jaws" trying to meet "8MM." Everybody sportsserious expressions because everything is serious. Nevertheless, everybody behaves like idiots, too. A one-armed college jock with aspear wades into a shark-infested lake with revenge in his heart.Hammerheads, threshers, cookie cutters and bull sharks assemble to makemunch-meat of him. Sadly, not only are these sharks either digitallyconcocted or animatronic, but they also act like SyFy Channel sharks.SyFy Channel made-for-cable movies usually boast sharks that move soquickly they resemble cartoon sharks. The synthetic "Shark Night 3-D"sharks swim with such speed that our heroes, when the latter haveeither a boat with an outboard motor or water bike at their disposal, cannot leave them in their wake! An academically challenged TulaneUniversity athlete, Malik (Sinqa Walls of "Choose Connor"), makes a B+on a test and no longer worries about flunking out of college. Anecstatic Malik rewards his dutiful tutor, Nick (Dustin Milligan of"Final Destination 3"), along with Nick's nerdy roommate Gordon (JoelDavid Moore of "Avatar") to join his friends for a good time at aremote lakeside estate. Sara (Sara Paxton of "Superhero Movie") haswealthy parents who own a beautiful cottage secluded on an island whichis surrounded by a sprawling salt-water lake. Naturally, nobody with acell phone can raise a signal at Lake Crosby. Furthermore, the nearesthospital lies about two hours away. Little do our recreationally mindedheroes know the ill-fate which awaits them. Meantime, Malik tries toplay Cupid and get Nick and Sara together. As Malik tells Nick, Sarahas not been on a date in three years. Later we learn why. Anyway, Nickand Sara grow chummy and Nick winds up steering Sara's launch. WhileNick is playing admiral, he has show-off Malik at the end of a tetherskiing around the lake on a board. Malik impresses everybody with hisincredible gymnastic feats. He loves to perform flips. Suddenly, Malikfeels something ram his board, and he takes a tumble. A shark attacksMalik and tears off his right arm at the bicep. Our heroes bandageMalik and rush him to the hospital. Malik's blood drips into the lakeand another shark slams into the launch so that Malik's soon-to-bewife, Maya (Alyssa Diaz of TV's "Southland"), topples into the waterand gets gobbled up. Later, Malik traipses into the lake with nothingmore than his rage and a spear. He kills a hammerhead shark and dies. The two rednecks, Sara's ex-boyfriend, scar-faced Dennis (Chris Carmackof "Into the Blue 2: The Reef), and his tattooed sidekick, Red (JoshuaLeonard of "Hatchet"), offer to help Sara and her friends. Beth is sosickened by the tragic turn of events that she wants to ride withDennis and Red back to the mainland. Gordon refuses to let Beth travelalone with them. Neither realizes the mistake that both make when theyset foot on the redneck's boat. Before it is all over with heroic Nickhas to tangle with murderous Dennis and a shark.Basically, "Shark Night 3-D" amounts to a complicated but predictablerevenge thriller with nothing to recommend it. Freshmen scenarists WillHayes and Jesse Studenberg neither do Ellis nor the audience any favorswith their shallow screenplay that borrows extensively from other sharkmovies. Their dialogue is utterly flat without any flair. Thecharacters emerge as one-dimensional nitwits waiting for their momentto be eaten. Ellis does deserve some credit for keeping the actionmoving at a brisk headlong pace. Nevertheless, he fails to generate anysympathy for our clueless heroes. The villains could be cousins of therednecks in "Deliverance." All of the ersatz shark attacks have beenlensed before with greater realism in better movies. The 3-D technologydelivers in only two scenes. The first involves an exploding boathurling shrapnel, while the second shows a shark as its gory innardsare blasted out of it. Considering the $28-million budget, you'd thinkthey could have made more than one shark appear convincing. A bullshark does look supremely menacing in a scene straight out of the JamesBond feature "License to Kill," but the rest look simulated and swimlike torpedoes. Two sharks literally defy gravity by leaping out of thelake to chomp. A first girl caught alone in the lake is straight out ofthe original "Jaws" as well as the attack on a hapless skier isstraight out of the "Jaws 2." If you want to watch a good sharkthriller, and you cannot find "Jaws," then you might try "Deep BlueSea" (1999), or the straight-to-video, outlandish "Shark Attack 3:Megalodon" (2002) and "Shark Swarm" (2008). The PG-13 rating rules outany chance of nudity, and the ability of sharks that can race throughthe water after speedboats eliminates any sense of credibility. Ellisgenerates a modicum of suspense when swimmers struggle to out-swim thesharks, but not enough to scare the daylights out of you."Shark Night 3-D" is munch-ado-about-gnaw-thing!

As a lot of other reviewers have said, I too was really looking forwardto seeing this movie. The trailer did what it was supposed todo...bring people into the theaters to see shark attacks.Unfortunately, as usual, the trailer has most of the films good momentsincluded and there's not much left to see that's original in the actualfilm.I liked the concept of the movie, and the reason that the sharks endedup in a lake could have made for a great film, but the studio'sdecision to make this PG-13 killed it. Without an R rating all of thestuff that teens and horror fans actually like about this type of movieis missing. There's no real gore, no people being torn up by the sharks(at least not on screen), and no nudity. If you're 13 you may actuallylike this movie, and your parents will probably sweat a lot thinkingthey're sending you to see something a lot worst than what it is, butthey have nothing to worry about. The acting in this was OK, but nothing Oscar worthy. You don't reallyget to know anything about most of the cast and, to me, the one thingyou do find out about the female lead came too late. Personally, Ididn't recognize anyone in this movie, with the exception of Joel DavidMoore, and after his run on the TV show Bones, and his part in themovie Avatar, I expected better of him.If an unrated DVD version comes out I'll probably watch it again, justto see if anything actually worth seeing was filmed. But I highly doubtit.

A group of college friends are pursued by various species of sharks andredneck idiots in this horrendously bad theatrical "horror" film. Iwish that was all I could say about this film but it honestly offendedme. The story and background of all main characters were forced andhorribly acted, save Sara Paxton and Katherine McPhee, the latter beingthe hottest of the bunch( yes, I had to switch to superficial looks toremotely enjoy this). Paxton's character is adorable but herrelationship to the villains is just stupid, like an impossibly vapidDawson's's creek episode. the sharks do not fare well either in thiscinematic garbage. How did these sharks get here? God knows but Joel David Moore states atthe beginning of the film that "it's not impossible". Well there we gothen! The sharks themselves are pitifully rendered and evoke absolutelyno scares, just laughs. But is it enjoyable, comedic laughs I produce? No, it's a guffaw that I'm still sitting in my seat and not spearingthe screen. Two out of ten. One star each for the beautiful McPhee and Paxton. Therest can burn in hell.
Conor Coyle (18 May 2012)
This movie is full of suspense and chills, which I love. The acting wassuperb, it is really entertaining and a fun movie to watch. But some(not all) of the sharks were quite (not fully) fake. I liked the plotand the trailer made want to watch it so badly, but I didn't watch itin 3D. The DVD doesn't do a double pack like Piranha 3D, they have a 2Dand 3D version. But Shark Night doesn't do that, it just have 2D (whichis a shame.) Overall the movie was very good and it's worth watching.Fans of shark movies will enjoy this, especially "Jaws". That wasfantastic. So don't listen to people who say it's bad, it's theiropinion. People have their opinion so if they're saying it's bad, it'sbad. This is a movie I would watch over and over again, the story gets verythrilling and spooky after the first 30 minutes. 10/10.
nickhar2014 (17 May 2012)
The first reason I picked watching this movie is I love shark moviesbeing a fan of Jaws. The second reason I picked watching this movie isthe cast: Sara Paxton (Return to Halloweentown, Aquamarine, The LastHouse on the Left), Chris Carmack (Just My Luck, The OC, DeadlyHoneymoon), Katharine McPhee (American Idol, The House Bunny) andAlyssa Diaz (The Nine Lives of Chloe King). I docked a few points dueto some 3D designed scenes, which I didn't like. Some scenes had fastpaced movement which i didn't like either. However other scenes werewell made. The gore was toned down due to the PG-13 rating. The movieis not too gory. The final reason I picked this movie is the director:David R. Ellis (The Final Destination, Snakes on a Plane, and FinalDestination 2).
BOOGIEMAN-pN (16 May 2012)
WoW ! Looking at all those terrible reviews makes me wonder did wewatch the same movie ? I mean, WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT from a 'Snakeson a Plane' director ?!?! THIS is a good TRASH movie, 100 times betterthan "Machete", "Hobo with a shotgun" and similar (soft) horror flicks... I guess the problem must be that it isn't 100% OBVIOUSLY statedthat this is a TRASH MOVIE, like in afore mentioned two, so today'sAverage Joe's in audience couldn't figure it out by themselves. That'swhy I use UPPERCASE LETTERS, because most of you Joe Schmoe's doesn'teven read whole reviews. I say, this movie is at least better than the average of it's genre.Classic example of "expedition gone wrong" horror storyline. Smallgroup of friends on isolated island, getting dispatched one by one. There's even a twist in the plot. If only camera and editing were moredynamic, let's say for example, like in "My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part2", this movie could've been even awesome.
Scarecrow-88 (15 May 2012)
Look, I try to give any movie, like the PG-13 Shark Night 3 D, thebenefit of the doubt despite this preconceived notion that it willprobably stink. For a lot of horror fans, shark movies are like chum,we see blood, or the potential of blood, in the water with a ravenous,man-eating water predator on the rampage, as petite female and buffmale bodies serve as menu options, and we can't help ourselves. I putthe blame on Spielberg and Peter Benchley with Jaws. Every since this77 classic hit theaters, VHS, and DVD, horror fans seem attracted tothe recycled killer shark formula. In the bayou, Tulane students go on a summer trip to one of the group's(Sara Paxton) lake estate and for some reason sharks of all varietiesare loose and hungry. Anytime college kids go to a lake summer homeit's a recipe for disaster, especially with freaky rednecks and afishing trawler who are secretly killing off victims for an internetreality snuff program filming the murders for the audience willing topay top dollar. CGI sharks galore and PG-13 violence, Shark Night(which takes place primarily during the day which tells you right awaythat all is not right with this movie) eschews the usual booze-partyingand sex, having the African American star linebacker (Sinqua Walls)losing an arm while wave-riding gets hurt by a shark right away. Losingblood fast, he needs to go to a hospital, but the group is out in themiddle of bayou country so their predicament is grave, to say theleast. Chris Carmack and Joshua Leonard (the latter recognizable tofans of The Blair Witch Project) are a pair of repellent hick creepswho seem to be just antagonists, at first, later revealing theirsinister natures to great length at the expense of former American Idolstar Katharine McPhee (groomed for stardom for the NBC Broadway series,SMASH) and wise-cracking Joel David Moore (fun during his time in themovie). The huge sharks leap out of the water as if they were dolphins.None of the characters, including Paxton (the movie goes out of its wayto establish that she is now a woman, as Sara remains in bikinipractically the entire running time, not that I'm complaining, but itis rather apparent), are that interesting (I know, the charactersservice the film as chum for the water predators, but still I wouldlike to have some sort of interest in their welfare), but DustinMulligan (as the handsome nerd who is Paxton's love interest) is ratherresourceful and crafty (of course, the film has to have the "final guy"to come to the rescue of the "final girl"). I was quite amused at theconvenience of having a zippo lighter when Mulligan faced being tigershark lunch, and he seems able to swim freely throughout without barelya hint of danger. That's the problem, I don't think anyone believes (Isure didn't) that Paxton or Mulligan, despite the stack decked againstthem, will fall to either the Bayou scumbags or the sharks they"planted in the lake". Walls' behavior (going after a shark in revengefor the death of his sweetie or untying his body after his jet-skiingbro was about to get him to shore), in particular, is flat stupid, andthe villains seem to talk on and on as Paxton and Mulligan could havebeen annihilated in quick and brutal fashion. The movie will fallquickly out of the minds of those who watch it, I think, becausenothing about it is particularly that memorable except the villainswho, to their credit (Joshua is a real Redneck freakshow, with teethand hygiene, and filthy manners, the stand-out)certain to make yourskin crawl. The violence doesn't come close to the bloody goodsdelivered by Aja just recently with his Piranha remake, proving herethat tame CGI blood and lack of on screen grue doesn't help matters, either. Teasing the typical audience by having your female eye candyremoving their tops with their backs to the camera so you are left toimagine what their boobs look like just further illustrates that SharkNight is all about not delivering instead of giving the usual fans whatthey expect.

So far, Shark Night is one of the best Teenage-Horror Movies I've seensince Insidious. It contains lots of action, tons of suspense and mostof all, the best for last...horror.Scenes are freaky and frightening, thats part of it. The movie doesn'tinvolve in only fighting and trying to kill the shark, but also, fightsbetween teenagers themselves. The movie is kind of bloody to have anPG-13 rating, so this is one of those movies you''ll be tricked. It'sfull of jump-out-of-your-seat scenes, since almost every time the teensare in the water, the shark will definitely and predictably appear andkill one of the group. It's truly amazing!
