Enjoyed!!

Wow really surprised with the reviews given to Kate Hudson here. I thought her character, although annoying, was the liveliest one in the movie. I thought she was great! Darcy and Ethan were the most upfront characters in the movie. The other characters were on the boring side. Anyway, I enjoyed watching it --my husband enjoyed watching it. Looking forward to seeing Something Blue (I enjoyed that book more anyway :))

Loved It!

As good as the book? Of course not. Entertaining? Yes. Kate Hudson played Darcy PERFECTLY! and i'm so hoping that her and John take on Something Blue because though they hated each other, their chemistry was perfect. I loved every scene with them, who'd have thought they would be that great together. The movie is a fun romantic comedy and though the subject is taboo, you have sympathy for Dex and Rachel b/c you know their history and you know Darcy is not an innocent either. Their situations are all a big hot mess that gets worked out in the end.

Fanaticalaboutfilms Review: Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed follows Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) as she meets Dex(Colin Egglesfield) at university where they become best friends withfeelings clearly developing but neither of them acting on saidfeelings. So when Rachel's best friend the selfish and obnoxious Darcy(Kate Hudson) shows up and asks Dex out, Rachel gives her blessing, Dexsays yes and several years later they are engaged to be married. This leaves Rachel distraught for letting Dex slip through her fingersand with the cowardly and wimpish Dex (I'm sure just what ladies lookfor in a man) still conflicted as to what to do next. After Rachel'sbirthday celebrations though, she and Dex end up sleeping together andsupposed hilarity ensues as they try yet again ignore the chemistrybetween them and just let life run its course.Thank god for Ethan (John Krasinski) Rachel's friend who gave a voiceof reason to proceedings by at least attempting to beat some sense intothe main characters who seemed to be oblivious to everything aroundthem. I think my main fault with the movie was the storyline and theway we are supposed to feel for Rachel despite the fact that she didn'tmake a go of it with Dex, everything that happened to her was selfinflicted and she has slept with her best friend's fiancé; and giventhat Darcy isn't a very nice person to say the least that either ofthem hung around with her in the first place. The supporting cast outside the four main characters didn't add to thefilm in any way shape or form. With some movies you get the tokencelebrities who show up for 10 seconds, say a line and then leave againand this is how the rest of the cast felt to me for the entire movie. They were just written in for one line and then would disappear neverto be seen or heard from again.Apart from a few witty remarks here and a bit of slapstick, there wasnot much comedy in the film with the overall feel of it leaning moretowards a drama with a bit of comedy rather than the other way aroundwhich I feel is the better mix for this genre. There was nothing wrongwith the acting with Goodwin and Egglesfield doing their jobs andcreating some chemistry but it was merely a minor consolation whichcan't cover up the rest of the issues highlighted. As romcom's go this was one of the worse that I've seen so much so thateven if your an avid fan of this type of movie you'll have a hard timegetting any pleasure out of watching it. Time to forget about this andmove onto another one.For further reviews feel free to check out:http://www.fanaticalaboutfilms.com

Not anywhere as bad as the other reviewers claim, Slight spoiler.

First, I'll have to admit that I like romance movies. And mostHollywood romances are so formula that there's nothing in them exceptthe interplay between the characters. The other thing that happens inthese formula movies is that they run out of time and out of budget andjust end them on some formulaic quick setup to keep the running timedown."Something Borrowed" started very formula and wasn't very interestingbut it grows on you as they develop the characters and you learn whothey are. And when they finally get into the story line you becomesurprisingly involved. And the ending was carefully crafted (which is afeature typical of French films and not Hollywood films). So even withthe spotty jumping around start it ends up being a very entertainingfilm. I recommend it "if" you like romance movies.

Great Romantic Comedy!

What a great movie! Nice girls do finish first. Kate Hudson was great as the obnoxious Darcy. If you like Romantic comedy, this movie is for you!

Kate Hudson...no, no, no

I read the book a couple of years ago and loved it. That being said I didn't have high hopes for the movie, because usually the movie is not as good as the book. I don't necessarily think the movie disappointed. I knew the story so I knew what to expect. Ginnifer Goodwin was excellent, as were John Krasinski and Colin Egglesfield. But Kate Hudson...at one point one of my friends looked at me and said "she's doing a great job cause I can't stand her!" knowing that we should hate Darcy based on the book. But she took it to another level. I don't normally like her, but this was even difficult to watch at times. It all just seemed so forced that it really took me out of the movie. Overall, I still really liked the movie and being the rom-com fan that I am, I'm sure I'll see it again someday when it come out on DVD. So, at the end of the day, to me it is a good chick-flick, especially if you have a long-time best friend to see it with.

It's a thin line between comedy and drama, and which emotions are reasonable to force on your audience

Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) is turning 30, but it's the immature Darcy(Kate Hudson) who is getting married. "Something Borrowed" is aromantic comedy, so obviously that inverse world will right itself, eventually. It was a longer process than would seem necessary. As the tag line says, it's a thin line between love and friendship. It's also a thin line between drama and comedy, and also between whichemotions are reasonable to force your audience to go through. I am itstarget audience, moreover I'm Rachel exactly, so they won me over fromthe start, and then I laughed and I cried. Both of which more than Iwas expecting too. It's a shame that the funniest characters were the superfluous ones.Creating one good character was apparently hard enough for Hollywood,so the supporting ones were just props to move the strenuous plot alongand deliver some reasonably funny lines and situations. John Krasinski,in particular, deserves better than that.Goodwin's Rachel and Krasinski's natural humour and disposition put"Something Borrowed" slightly above average. They borrowed my heart forawhile and for the most part kept me amused. But riddle me this, whydoes the asshole always get the girl?Follow my blog Napierslogs' Movie Expositions athttp://napierslogs.blogspot.com

Great girls' night movie

This movie is great for an evening with the girls. I saw it in the theatre with a good friend and we laughed a lot. John Krasinski is hilarious, Goodwin and Hudson are likeable and the male lead a nicely subtle fellow (realistic for the part) and easy on the eyes. Given the protagonist's position, I would've had feelings for both guys. It was fun to follow the plot and guess where events may turn. The story followed a path of enjoyable frustration (with some character choices) and it was entertaining the whole way through. Worth watching, especially if you like the actors and/or romantic comedies.

Such a fun chick flick/date movie!

I expected this movie to be cute...but it was actually very well done! I cared about all the characters from the very beginning. The flashbacks were great and not over-done. The fiance was HOT! Loved the story and the emotion and the way it was told. Go see if you want to get swept away in the joy and heartbreak of love, romance and friendship...while laughing a lot!

3-3/4 stars

This review is from: Something Borrowed (Amazon Instant Video) Well, it does seem to glorify cheating but many relationships these days cheat. I thought the movie was entertaining, more of a chick flick for sure. Nothing deep or intricate. The two girl leads were great!

Enjoyed it enough to buy it!!

I absolutely loved this movie! I loved it enough to buy it for sure! Much more thought provoking than most. Way better writing! This one was different. Too many of these romantic comedies today are just the same formula with different actors. In most they start out not liking each other, learn to love each other, have a big break up then get back together at the last minute. Same old, same old. In this one they loved each other from the beginning. It was self doubt that kept them apart and a false friend that was such a narcissistic sociopath that she couldn't stand for one minute letting her "best friend" ever out do her in anyway. Kate Hudson plays this villain, bless her heart. I thought it was really big of her to play second fiddle and such an unlikable character. This Romantic Comedy was actually more realistic than most. It was complicated. The relationships were complicated, the characters were complicated and yet it had it's really funny moments some of which ended up on the cutting room floor so PLEASE WATCH THE EXTRAS! The funniest scene was cut out. I loved John Kranski in this and I was rooting for him to get the girl and still am because after the credits start to roll KEEP WATCHING! They run a little bit THEN THERE IS ANOTHER SCENE and it says TO BE CONTINUED..... I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!! I will definitely go to see it in theaters!!

Very great adaption!!!

I've been able to watch a test screening of the movie in early Februaryduring the Berlin Film Festival in Berlin, Germany. I've been a big fan of the book(s), so I was really looking forward tohow they adapted "Something Borrowed". First of all, the actors weregreat. I didn't expect it at first, but Ginnifer and Colin were justperfect as Rachel and Dex. They did such an amazing job and I wassitting in the cinema with a pounding heart the whole time. Kate andJohn were hilarious, but I didn't expect any less and just because ofthose two, I really hope they'll adapt "Something Blue" (the sequel to"Something Borrowed") as well. I've read the book a couple of years ago, so I don't remember everydetail of it, but I don't think they left any major facts out. It's agreat chick-flick. I'm not sure if guys will enjoy it much, but it's agreat movie to watch with your girlfriends/mother/sisters, etc.

Kate Hudson was not suitable for Darcy role

From some one who has read the novel, Kate Hudson did not fit the partof Darcy. Although this may be a "shallow" observation, it is the basisfor the entire premise of the novel's plot as well as the movie's. Inthe book and also in the movie, Darcy is described as one of those"beautiful people"...a girl that sticks out among thousands. KateHudson may have been more suitable for the part many years back, butnow she is nothing close to the character's description. Unfortunately, yet fittingly, an individual more like that of Megan Fox ( I realizeshe is not the best actor) or just anyone else like maybe even ayounger Angelina Jolie for example could have fit the part just aswell. The character herself, does not require an immense background ofacting as she is a ditsy character all around.Even so, the movie itself stood close enough to the book for me to callit decent. Ginnifer Goodwin played the role of Rachel very well andalthough Ethan was not a huge character in the book, he worked wellinto the movie. But damn...Kate Hudson needs to stop taking roles sheisn't made for.

Wanted to love it, HATED it

This review is from: Something Borrowed (Amazon Instant Video) I quite like romantic comedies and was in the mood to see one. This actually looked good when it was in theaters but i never got the chance to go so i was all over this rental. Well im sorry to say it was ho-rri-ble! I couldn't even finish watching it, that's how painful it was. Totally predictable, flat; non funny jokes, despicable best friend and just lame across the board. I think i watched about 45 minutes then i could no longer bear it. Wish I had stayed away.

Goodwin and Hudson Great Together!

It's a chick flick, so if you like that genre you should definitely see it. I'm a big Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson fan, and they did not disappoint. It's uneven at times, but it got better as the plot developed.I read the book awhile ago, and luckily didn't remember the details so I got to enjoy how it unfolded. A good movie for mother's day.

Poor John

I feel that this movie if watched a few times, is not as bad as peoplethink.I happened to think that Kate Hudson's acting was superb and JohnKrasinski knocked it out of the park. What saddens me is that I try towatch his movies objectively and while I feel he is an extraordinarytalent, I think he will always be typecast as JIM from "The Office."Now many actors over the years have had this happen to them but is itfair and can it be undone? So many reviews of every movie he is in sayhe acted like Jim in the office. Well, he is on every week. They seehim every week yet he goes out of that mold and is, IMO, a wonderfulactor. The movie is NOT your typical RomCom and delves a bit into the lives ofpeople in and around their thirties who realize that life is a seriousventure and they have to address it so. Read between the lines. Sinceno one is married here, there is no infidelity but it does promotepremarital sex in a very strong way. Still in all, this movie is funny, touching, and somewhat insightful. I think it's worth a look at.

one of my least favorite romances

first time doing a review... feel like i really need to share so people don't waste their time/money. honestly, i'm a huge fan of romantic comedies/dramas. however, the acting in this movie was so poor and the story-line was lame. i really couldn't relate to the characters and didn't find them at all believable. i wouldn't even watch this movie if it was shown on a transatlantic flight and i had nothing better to do. and that says a lot.

It is OK to betray a really bad friend .

***Spoilers ahead not sure when but I will be spoiling the movie .****Rachel is boring , Darcy is annoying , Dex is a spineless wimp , Ethansaves the movie . Somehow the writers of this story want you to believebecause Rachel has an inferiority complex ( see a psychiatrist Rachelyou obviously have the money since you go to the Hamptons everyweekend) that it is OK to steal her more confident and superficial"best" friend's fiancé . It is not , and they at no point during theaffair when it was actually an affair show me that it should be . Theydo however when the affair can become a relationship and when thewicked witch has been knocked down from her throne , show me all herwarts ***spoiler*** Cheating on her spineless wimp fiancé with an idiotnamed Marcus ,and getting pregnant. It was like they threw that inthere to say "hey what they did wasn't so bad she was doing it too ,and she is horrible person. She deserves the pain they have given hercause she is a horrible person ". Well writers and Holly wood youdidn't sell me on this , I would have liked the couple more had theyfaced it head on it could have saved the romantic comedy . Not focusingon the whole premise the movie was built around it was a decent movie .Really funny scenes between Ethan and pretty much everyone , He and theidiot were pretty much the best part of the movie for me , along withEthan's stalker . I loved the movie when Ethan was there , the rest ofit other than the anger I felt toward the main characters was a blur.To the guy who played Ethan never ever ever do a romantic comedy again, not because you were bad but because you are the only thing that savedthis movie . You could do regular comedy leave this place before youbecome the gay best friend for the rest of your career .
