Best Disney Movie in a long time!

Ok, first off I am a 26 y/o Male who from time to time likes to veer away from violent movies and watch something a bit innocent. I bought the 3d version of this movie, but to start let me review the story. Disney finally backtracks and goes with something a little bit more familiar. Returning to princesses, heroes, and catchy songs. The story was quite touching as well... something I find quite necessary for a Disney movie. We have a return of the "princess sidekick" (phillipe in beauty and the beast, sebastian in the little mermaid), pascal the chameleon is an awesome addition bringing a nice touch of humor to the story, along with maximus the horse. Overall, without spoiling the movie, it is your run of the mill CLASSIC Disney movie, which we haven't seen in a long time and is very much needed. The story is clean fun I believe the whole family can and will enjoy. Now for the graphic and 3d review. If you have a 3d tv GET THIS MOVIE!!! As most of us know Avatar set the standard for 3d by making the 3d give depth to the world and not just use it as a gimmick. Tangled follows in Avatars footsteps and I believe gives Avatar a run for it's money in the 3d aspect. Tangled uses 3d in a way to show distance and detail, rarely using it as a gimmick. Dust from the musky tower is visible and appears to float right in front of you in a non invasive way making you feel like you are right there in the tower. The very RARE occasion something is pointed at the screen gives the viewer a sense of surprise and is normally something that would have happened whether the movie was 3d or not... it's not just a gimmick. One part (not to reveal anything) in 3d will make your hair stand on end.. the detail of not only the picture quality but the 3d is amazing and should definitely be in any 3dtv owners collection.Overall this movie is a great piece of art on the part of Disney. Keep it up Disney... we are hoping you can once again make the classics we once fell in love with!

God Bless Disney. How do they keep doing this year after year, creating absolute classics!

Like any child I loved Disney films and I turned into an adult thatadores the classic Disney films and hope to share them with my childrenone day. But could they keep creating the classic films we all know andlove from Snow White and Bambi to modern day classics like Aladdin andBeauty and The Beast? Well the answer is absolutely!! Tangled is thefirst Disney animation film I have seen in quite some time and I wasglued to my screen the whole time. Funny, cute, romantic, thrilling, adventurous, edge of your seat, and stunningly beautifully animated andthis only begins to describe Tangled. I saw elements of Aladdin, Beautyand The Beast, and even The Lion King in the style, story andcharacters the film makers created. Like many Disney films it draws ona classic fairy tale and brings those characters to life in such alarger than life way. I saw Tangled on Blu Ray which certainly helpsthe quality but throughout the film I couldn't stop being awestruckover the quality of the animation. I believe it is traditional handdrawn animation but just...wow...from Rapunzel's doll like features, tothe breath taking Kingdom they live in. Kids will adore it and adultswill never take their eyes off of it.Zachary Levi is already high up on my hero list as I am a huge Chuckfan and recognized his voice immediately. But regardless of this hisvoice talents to the egotistical, romantic thief Flynn Rider is justperfect. As much of a fan of his that I am I forgot about him and hesimply became Flynn Rider to me and that says a lot. Mandy Moore seemsto have slipped out of the spotlight lately. But she comes back strongas the naive, lovely, young girl Rapunzel with the magnificent hair. Iwasn't sure about her voice at first but she is perfect and theirvoices come together to create a terrific chemistry opposite eachother. Donna Murphy plays the voice of the obligatory 'witch' or evil'step mother' as the case may be. Murphy is a terrific character actorand has been for years and she is perfect behind the face of Rapunzel'scaptor. And of course any great Disney film needs a handful of talentedsupporting voices and they include Ron Perlman, M.C. Gainey, JeffreyTambor, and Brad Garrett to name a few of the more well known andnoticeable performances.Only Disney can create characters like this. Other film makingcompanies make good animation but does anyone even touch these guys? This film packs so much adventure into one movie just like you'd expectand demand from a Disney flick. There has to be a 'but' since I didn'tscore it a perfect ten and that 'but' happens to be something that isalso a Disney staple and that is the music. I didn't think the music inTangled was very impressive at all. The best song was the song in thetavern with all the brutes because it was fun and light hearted butnone of the songs stayed with me or stuck in my head and I am certainthere won't really be any songs that become classics. So itsunfortunate that the music stumbles but everything else about thisamazing film makes up for it. Constant adventure!! Boys, girls, men andwomen will find something they love about it. There are some definitedark turns in the film especially near the end where our hero Flynn isstabbed...so be warned with the really little ones but otherwise Disneyswings and knocks another one way, way way out of the park. I LOVE IT!!9/10

Enthusiasm made me overlook 3D requirements...

This review is from: Tangled (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I -love- this movie, I would give it 7 stars if I could. It's such a wonderful refreshing tale with fun characters, beautiful art, great soundtrack, memorable songs...However, maybe I'm not as detail-oriented as I think I am -- I took off a star for the DVD package because I don't see anything in the product description page that mentions the requirement to have a 3D TV and 3D blu-ray player. =(I was SO excited to get this and watch it at home, but I didn't understand that I needed more than 3D glasses. I have other (granted, slightly older, but still) 3D movies that don't require special players! So bummed. I saw it in 3D in the theaters and it was -amazing-. AMAZING. Now I'm going to have to wait until I find a friend who has a 3D blu-ray and 3D TV.... a quest!Edit: Since it's not apparently obvious to other readers, yes, I can watch the online copy, DVD copy, and blu-ray copy (3 of 4 discs). However, since I don't have a 3D TV and 3D blu-ray player, I can't watch the 3D copy. I'm disappointed I can't watch the 3D blu-ray copy. I'm warning other potential buyers who think that they may be able to watch the 3D copy on their regular TVs and regular blu-ray players as a result of this equipment not being mentioned on the product page, and may be equally disappointed.I'm satisfied with the regular blu-ray copy. I also am fully capable of sticking DVDs into the machine! I can also tie my shoes and brush my teeth! Yay!

Let's All Let Down Our Hair with "Tangled"

With or without 3-D, "Tangled" looks set to overtake last year'sunder-achieving "The Princess and the Frog" at the box-office. What'smore, its non-verbal horse named Maximus is bound to give Shrek'stalkative Donkey a run for the money! The tale of Rapunzel (voice ofMandy Moore) gets a revisionist twist here and she is 'rescued' not bya handsome prince on a white horse but a young, egoistic bandit(Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider) and a horse (named Maximus) that thinksit is a dog. The villain is Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), thenarcissistic witch who imprisons our princess in a secluded tower.Like "Beauty & The Beast" and "The Little Mermaid", "Rapunzel" alsocomes with musical and dance numbers. Except for 'Mother Knows Best',most of them have yet to catch on with the public. They may not be ascatchy as those of Little Mermaid but given time, some may actuallywork their magic. What I like best are the solid Disney characterisations, especially ofits animals. Mandy Moore's Rapunzel suitably represents Every Girl whois forced to stay home; Flynn plays the Bad Boy-type who sorely needsto be tamed and corrected by the proverbial Love; and the manipulativeMother Gothel aptly reflects the way some kids view theirover-protective parent. The show-stealers are the mandatory animal sidekicks - a chameleonnamed Pascal and the palace horse Maximus. These are not justsupporting characters but they have actual 'acting' duties as well. Andthe fact that they do not speak, helps to boost realism and makes themeven funnier. Of course, the action is popcorn stuff but the socialthemes it explores make for worthy parental contemplation. A fittingfilm for everyone to let down their hair. - By LIM CHANG MOH(limchangmoh.blogspot.com)

One of the best new Disney movies

Well I just saw the movie and it was like going back to my childhood.Really i felt like when i first saw Aladdin (my first movie experience)It was funny, the songs were at place and generally i liked it. I won'tsay anything about the 3d as I watched it in 2d (I hate this 3D hype).About the animation... well sometimes i felt Rapunzel's hair was aribbon (kinda hard to describe, but it was definitely weird) but otherthan that it was good (although I myself don't prefer animated movies)So all in all, I felt like a child again some moments were touchingothers really funny (the bar scene was hilarious) so I'll say thismovie felt like a classic Disney movie (and when i say classic i meanthe classics from the '90s like aladdin, lion king, so the Disneymovies i grew up on)

DICK STEEL (23 May 2012)

A Nutshell Review: Tangled

There's some controversy over the name change from Rapunzel to Tangled, but in Singapore we probably got the best of both worlds with Rapunzel- A Tangled Tale, highlighting that this was still in essence, aRapunzel-Rapunzel-Let-Down-Your-Hair tale. The latest offering to addto Disney's growing list of Princess films, and thought to be the last, this 50th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics seriessees the Brothers Grimm's tale being given the Disney update, and thatmeans being more child friendly, thought slapped with a PG ratingrather than the usual G.The formula that Disney uses on its chosen princesses from fairy talesby the Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Anderson amongst others, seemto come with the requisite beautiful singing voice since breaking outinto song about their plight and a duet is the norm, and have this aurathat birds, butterflies and bees tend to flock to, possessing thispower over animals and assisted by a sidekick from the insect or animalkingdom. There's also the Prince Charming equivalent who will gallopover hills and valleys to save his beloved, before living happily everafter expected ending. In all counts, Tangled satisfied the above, though there was a momentin the finale which I thought, since it's touted as the last Princessfilm (though never say never with box office success) that they wouldgo for the jugular and put a new spin on things, but I guess what'sformula shouldn't be tweaked unless it's broke. Mandy Moore the singerplays Rapunzel and so automatically gives the character her singingvoice as well, being captured by the evil Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy)and imprisoned in a tower (well, very nicely discouraged from gettingout to the big bad world out there), though yearning very much to bepart of the world seen through her window, much like The LittleMermaid's Ariel. Her chameleon sidekick and palace horse Maximus, though without a voice, are likely to be the more popular Disney animalsidekicks out there with their timely antics, and if there are softtoys of them, I'm quite sure they will do pretty brisk business. But what's slightly different here is that the male lead Flynn Rider(voiced by Zachary Levi) happens to be a rogue in all sense of theword, a thief who has double-crossed the Stabbington Brothers (RonPerlman) during a joint heist. Not a prince and hardly the gentleman tobegin with, his accidental chance upon Rapunzel doesn't result in aninstant love connection, but one that developed over time in theirjourneys to bring her out of her tower, to somewhere close enough toobserve a lantern festival that happens on her birthday, where theroyalty of the land commemorates the disappearance of the kingdom'sprincess (no prizes here of course – most of the time one party amongstthe lovebirds has got to be of royal blood). I suppose the character'stapered to be slightly more realistic than the swashbuckling heroaccording to plan.Villains wise, Tangled's Mother Gothel is probably more simple in hermotivation to keep Rapunzel's magical hair powers all for herself, anelixir for immortality, though her schemes and execution to do so aremore complex and cerebral, preferring mind games and manipulationinstead to get her wants, rather than magical powers and potions, beingthe weak old lady she actually is who's cheapskate enough not to go forbotox. With no real powers nor weapons to exercise her threat, she'sactually quite weak if it boils down to fisticuffs, inflicting injuryfrom the shadows. The Stabbington Brothers also pose no threat as theyare only mean looking and ultimately nothing but posers, and the flickalso has in its theme to never judge a book by its cover for thedreamers it made out of a tavern full of thugs. If one were to compare the earlier Disney princesses from what hasevolved over the course of time, there's no qualms about the femalecharacters being stronger now than their predecessors. Snow White andSleeping Beauty had unparalleled rivals in the looks department, butultimately the docile, demure ladies don't cut it nowadays, especiallywhen they are in comatose in their own films, especially the latteralmost throughout. Today's princesses fight against bad authority, andare never flinching if the situation calls for self sacrifice. Alasthey still cannot shake off emotional needs of desiring a man in theirlives, so not all things are changed for happily ever afters.Still, Rapunzel is that worthy addition to the Disney stable, and I amwondering just how long it'll take before she could be found on theDisneyland grounds. Recommended for its intended demographicsdefinitely, while accompanying adults may find that this is no longerthe same as those we all grew up with.

Tangled is damn cute and funny too..

This is one of the best animated films I have seen. You must watch thisin 3D to get the best experience. The 3D effects were awesome. The"floating lanterns" scene towards the end, for instance. The music is good. But there are not much songs as in a musical. Thereare just one or two. The chameleon 'Pascal' is a good work ofanimation. The characters of King and Queen shows a lot of emotion inthe movie - that is worth appreciating. Its a believable romantic tale.Albeit a fairy tale. The character Rapunzel is so cutely depicted in the movie. There areseveral funny moments (humor) in the movie. It is a good entertainerfor adults too. The animations are gorgeous. Its almost perfect! You wont regret watching it.

Disney goes 3-D -- GREAT!

I don't have a large collection of Disney in my Library; I have reallylittle use for "cartoons"... It was actually a Pastor in my home churchyears ago that got me into it at all; he was watching 'The LittleMermaid', which is PRICELESS.... soon after, my boss was seeingsomething called 'The Lion King' when I walked in... 'Aladdin'followed, and those top Disney's list, seriously... if you like Disney, you have them... there are a few others, here and there... NOW YOU NEEDTHIS.Disney #50 goes 3-D, and this is so adorable and fun you won't believeit. I don't know how they do that with animation; I think it issubliminal messages, but this movie is such a good time it will blowyou away. The animation is amazing, simply stunning. The characters aregreat, the story is cute and just right, it is just too good to betrue. One funny note; I had forgotten that Mandy Moore was doing thevocals, until the end when .... something... happens, and when it does, she suddenly LOOKS LIKE her... and I said, OMG that's Mandy Moore! LOLIt was so great! This is adorable! This is fun, big fun, and you willlove it for a long time to come. GO GET TANGLED.

A mediocre animation film, but it ended up being a bit better than I expected

Like almost every single fairy tale, the original story from Rapunzelhas an abundant level of cruelty and violence before reaching to thehappy ending. The studio Disney naturally cleaned that story in orderto make it more consistent with its current branding, and the finalresult is the film Tangled, which takes the most basic elements fromthe famous fairy tale (a princess with a very long hair who is trappedinto a tower) and reinterprets them in a generic adventure story withapparatus action scenes, innocent romance and bland musical sequences. In other words, Tangled is another pre-fabricated animation film;however, I have to say it ended up being a bit better than I expectedthanks to the likable voice acting, excellent animation...and also somenarrative elements from the screenplay.I am honestly not bothered by the changes the screenplay from Tangledmakes to the original story. What I did not like very much is thatthose changes were only made in order to adjust to the typical schemefrom Disney. I would have also liked the songs to have morepersonality, the comedy to be funnier and the general tone from themovie to be less generic. However, Tangled kept me moderatelyentertained mainly thanks to the characters and some narrative elementswhich had a certain level of deepness. Besides, I liked to see thatTangled was not another poor imitation of Pixar or DreamWorks, likesome recent animated films from Disney were. So, in conclusion, I found Tangled to be a mediocre animated film, butit did not bore me, and I appreciated that it did not treat the kidslike idiots. And because of that, I think it deserves a slightrecommendation.

My Favorite Disney Princess Movie!

This movie is the best Disney Princess movie by far! It is definitely worth adding to your dvd collection!

Vastly underestimated

When I saw the first advertisement for this film, I was a bit turned off because it looked like one of those twisted alternate fairy tale movies; where something goes wrong that's totally unexpected and hilarity (or just plain wrongness) ensues. The title change was a bit of a turnoff for me at first too. But as I did some research on the film and started seeing the previews, I started to think that maybe I was wrong. I also came to forgive the title change because I realized that judging a film by its title is just like judging a book by its cover. And because I found out that they did that because they wanted a title that represented both main characters, not just the female lead. I was also pleased to find that the company was now trying to market more towards boys; which as a man, I appreciate. After all, the princesses have been getting all the attention for years. Let the heroes have some!Right, so anyhue...Not only did the movie have some real catchy songs, memorable characters, and parts that were absolutely hilarious; but despite a few changes, the movie's basic plot remained mostly true to the original story. I don't want to spoil any of it though. If there was one thing I didn't like, it was seeing the short old guy traipsing around in his underwear. Although there was a scene later on where he made me laugh. Another great thing about this movie is that in most CGI films there are 2 things you don't see being animated since it apparently takes a lot of work: hair and bare feet. But Disney stepped up to the challenge and did an excellent job animating both of those things. You never even see characters doing so much as combing their hair in most CGI movies, whereas Rapunzel's hair... well, need I say more? CGI movie characters also have shoes on all the time and in the extremely rare cases when they don't, you don't see much of their feet (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). Rapunzel on the other hand, is always barefoot in the movie and her feet are almost always visible. Just a little side note: Quentin Tarintino apparently said that Tangled was one of his favorite films of all time. Hmm... I wonder why that is. Anyway, all that just goes to show what a better job Disney does when it comes to animation. In conclusion, Tangled has turned out to become an outstanding movie; which I can't wait to own on DVD. Oh, but that brings me to one more tiny little thing I didn't like about the movie: it was released in theaters in November, so it couldn't be released on DVD in time for Christmas.

Worth the 3D upgrade

This review is from: Tangled (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Having seen this in 2D in the theaters, I am pleased to report that the film truly benefits from 3D. Though many of the effects provide an immersive depth, several (a butterfly, those lanterns) do seem to land in your lap. The transfer is clean, with almost no crosstalk. The sound mix, incidentally, is exceptional, with strong 7.1 separation. Though not an exceptionally flashy 3D film (that would be the 3D Blu-ray of "Despicable Me"), the 3D set of Tangled is well worth the few extra bucks. If you love "Tangled" - or any post "Little Mermaid" Disneys - be prepared to fall in love all over again. If you were only ambivalent about the film, this 3D version may well win you over.Oh, and one more thought: Best. Animated. Horse. Ever.

Read above

I'm only rating this a 10 because I know that it'll average out tobetween a 7.25 and an 8, which is where this should be. I saw this on adecent-sized screen in 3D, and my was I blown away by the intricaciesof each frame. The hair in itself would have killed the animators. There were some scenes that made me really emotional - just because ofthe shear beauty in the rendering. The horrible, unoriginal, mediocre and cliché-filled trailer reallypersuaded me to not see this, but I decided to give it ago. It's reallymuch more complicated than the original storyline, and there are, ofcourse, additional characters to increase the humor and drama of it all- and I didn't mind any of that. At first I thought there was too much singing - but the songs were sowell constructed that I didn't mind them either. All of the charactersare charming, and the antagonist was well solidified - she is really agreat symbol for realistic evils in society.OST: 9/10 Animation fluidity: 10/10 Characters: 9/10 Humor: 9/10 Familyappropriate: 10/10 - especially moms. Moms: go and see this

As well as driving the story, the themes of loyalty and trust also give the script its richest vein of humour.

It's a rambunctious, modern story full of chases, smart banter, big emotions, and palpable darkness.

Sing out for Tangled, its adorable. As for composer Menken, the man is a rare earth commodity, needs a Nobel made for him

Princess Rapunzel (Mandi Moore) has been locked up in a tower since shewas a baby. That's because Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy) stole her awayfrom her royal parents shortly after her birth. Why did she do so?Because a magic flower that restores youth was given to the pregnantqueen, since she was gravely ill, and Rapunzel's hair now has thatmagic, with the help of a special song. The young lady's onlycompanions are her "adopted" mother and a darling little chameleon,Pascal. However, through the tower's windows, Rapunzel has seen thatlanterns are launched on and only on her birthday. A coincidence, maybe? Perhaps. In any case, the Princess wants to go outside the Towerfor her 18th birthday present. But, Mother Gothel won't hear of it. Shesings a song about the perils of the world, from poison ivy toquicksand, and tells her daughter NEVER to ask such a thing again.Disappointed, Rapunzel tries not to cry. The next day, when MG leavesto gather dinner fixings, Rapunzel is surprised to find a young man,Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) has scaled the Tower's wall to evade thePalace Guards. Flynn, you see, has stolen a crown, and is in trouble.Never having seen a man before, Rapunzel manages to knock him out witha pan and lock him in the closet. Thinking quickly, when Motherreturns, the Princess sends MG away on a hunt for white dye, a threeday journey. Its Rapunzel's plan to ask Flynn to show her the lanternsand, indeed, the world. It begins well. Mother leaves, Flynn helps thePrincess down and the vacation starts. But, all too soon, MG returns, surmises what has happened, and is hot on her daughter's trail. Ofcourse, she is not alone, as more men are chasing Flynn, too. Timeafter time, the duo is in peril. Will they escape and will Rapunzellearn who she truly is? This outstanding film is so adorable that everyviewer will, in turn, sing out its glories to the next potential fan.Moore, Levi, and Murphy are terrific in their important roles and theycan warble like the most melodic of birds. The supporting cast is fine, too, as is the animation, script and direction. As for the music, it isso exquisite that a special Nobel prize should be created for Menken, the composer. He is one rare earth commodity and he is ours, anAmerican. (The lyrics are also quite nice). In short, untangle yourfeet from the couch cushions and go get Tangled at once. What atreasure it is!

Tangled is fun for the whole family!

Tangled is the first movie that we took our 4 and 2 year old daughters to in a theater, and they LOVED the entire experience! The movie is fun, and not too dark and dreary as some other Disney princess movies can be. My daughters love Rapunzels hair, to the point that their goal is to get their own hair as long as hers! They brush it every night saying that they want it to be like Rapunzel. The movie is a nice, refreshing take on an old tale. It even is fun for the adults. (Spoiler Alert) My wife and I were cracking up at the stages that Rapunzel goes through when she has finally left home, and the good and bad, happy and devastaded phases she was going through. Max and Flynn's (Eugene) "fights" were hilarious as well. Overall, we loved it. And will most positively keep this movie in our home library.

My kids love it

I have always loved Disney and now my children do. My children were dying to see this movie in the theater and were mesmerized for the entire duration. Now they cannot wait for this movie to come out on DVD and I find I am getting a little impatient as well. This movie was cute and funny. I will not go into a synopsis as you can find this anywhere but I highly recommend kids and youthful adults see this movie.
