In the words of Charles Dance's character in this film, "Bollocks!" Noplot, no character development, and utterly unbelievable.Full of stuff that just doesn't happen in the real world (since whenwere British police inspectors armed with handguns in shoulderholsters?). Full of mistakes (Bulgarian trains in London?). Full ofdull and artificial dialogue. And the directing/editing is awful -wobbly hand-held camera shots that add nothing to the film except avague feeling of seasickness; confusing jump-cuts; no structure.Wesley Snipes' character is totally unsympathetic - why should we carewhat happens to him? Direct to video? Direct to the dustbin!

Every film has a heart. Some hearts are more special than the others. But you are bound to get a wrong impression if you draw your inferencewithout knowing where the heart is.To the plebeian crowd, if Wesley Snipes is on the poster, that meanssome semi-mindless non-stop action, with a streak of silly humour oncein a while, is coming their way. But Wesley never signed an agreementabout that, did he now? This is not an action film, though you see someaction in it.First of all, it is a very low budget film, so don't go all tough andsmart criticizing it. Those B-movies, which come to TV only late atnight because other slots are for those blockbusters, can certainly notbe measured against The Art of War or Blade. The Contractor is asimple, low budget film that shows a little girl's bond with anassassin, whose mission has gone wrong and who has fallen the prey ofhis own employers. While the action sequences and other things areinadvertently done, very special care has been taken of those momentsthat reflect the warmth of feelings. Lena Heady was not a necessaryrecruit for this film, her role any pretty face could play. But I likeher, so I am glad she did it.Some low budget, non-famous films sometimes leave lasting impressions.Maybe they fail overall in box office and audience poll, but sometimesthere can be very heartfelt elements in such films. I watched it lateat night and liked it for what it is. I was not disappointed for whatit was not. Because if I wanted someone other film, I would watch someother film. But of course, idiots have minds (and comments on IMDb) of their own.

I once used Wesley Snipes' name as a clue to go ahead and watch a new, untried film in which he appears. So now, for the first time, mySnipes-Method of film recommendation has failed. Utterly. I shouldfirst have come here to see these reviews.Snipes ought to be ashamed to allow his otherwise earnest efforts to beso wasted in "The Contractor".One of my worst flick fears has come to bitter fruition. I feared thatthe shaky, blurry, pseudo-documentary, "unconsidered" directing andediting style (first brought to my attention by the PaulGreengrass-directed "Bloody Sunday") might propagate to other films.Greengass' sickening style was then brought to nauseatingly new heightsin the last two of the Bourne trilogy films. My fear had come to pass.In my opinion, these films are made really bad by thesemotion-sickness-inducing methods, which mistake blurry swipes for"action-enhancement". But the "Bourne Franchise," as Greengrass soloving calls his cash cow, apparently convinced others in Hollywood togo unprofessional in the quest for fast, big bucks.Read my lips, you Hollywood types. Action needs to be clearlyphotographed and presented, not merely hinted at by poor, lazycinematographic techniques. And "The Contractor" goes so far as to emulate "The Bourne Ultimatum"in inanely-repeated sound bites, in hopes their juvenile(apparently-evaluated) audiences can't sense them. For example, if Ihear a cop radio crackling "Yankee-Romeo" one more time, I'll justscream. The chances are good I won't hear it again: I certainly won'tever view "The Contractor" again.I recommend to those of you who have yet to see "The Contractor": justbe content with the tranquility this lack affords to your life.2 out of 10; I am tempted to lower that to a 1.

The US appear to run the UK police who all run around armed to theteeth and did you know that CID officers change into uniform when theystop work and go down the pub! This has got to be one of the mostunrealistic films with the worst portrayal of "real" UK police that hasever been foisted on the unsuspecting public. I can see that Mr Snipesmight have needed the money to pay his back tax bill but what the hecka good actor like Charles Dance was doing in it is a mystery.Worse than the worse low budget "B" film of the 50's. An hour and ahalf of suicide and time I will never get back.Avoid it like the veritable plague.

The storyline is very unique. The action is non stop. Basically, this is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I give this movie a five star rating for its original storyline.

The Contractor, formerly known as The Shooter, and not to be confused with Mark Wahlberg's "Shooter" is a movie starring Wesley Snipes as a CIA agent who is assigned to kill a terrorist, only to be framed for another murder. To complicate things more, Snipes will make friends with a teenager who will become his most valuable ally.I have to say I find this film very straightforward, unimaginative, hardly believable on certain aspects, and just mildly entertaining. At times it feels like an amateur attempt to create a movie and innovate certain cinematographic aspects, but stays as an attempt. Even Lena Headey, who I always find her acting abilities exceptional, feels weak as Inspector Ballard, the one in charge of bringing Dial (Snipes) down. Eliza Bennet as the teenage girl who helps Snipes makes a very good job, even if certain aspects of her character are not believable. It's obviously not her fault, it's the writers'.So I rate this movie as an average movie, with certain plot holes and pointless scenes. If you want some decent stuff by Wesley Snipes, take a shot, and there's the plus of having Lena Headey in it. It's 90 minutes where you can enjoy a movie if you're not feeling too picky.

It is incredible!! ..yes, someone before me wrote that it was a timewasting to seat and watch this film.. it is! Don't do so! I'm totallyrankled! I liked Wesley Snipes, and I founded funny that he played hisname's meaning in a movie. Anyway, I wanted to see this film (at homeonly of course) but now (just after) I am absolutely disappointed! Itwas his worst movie ever. Inwatchable!! Bad actor-play! Bad cameraman!Bad scenario! ..Only one good think: that wonderful girl! Must be amanikin surely! Eeeeh!! MB ..10 lines minimum?! I don't want to wasteyou're time anymore to read my opinion! I hope, i was clear andunder-stable, because English is not my native method of speaking. Sohave grate time, and see good films, like i try too.. Peace!

The problem with THE CONTRACTER is summed up by the opening scene . TheCIA want an international terrorist dead so contact black ops assassinJames Dial . The terrorist is appearing at the Old Bailey court inLondon which begs the question why do they want to bump off a terroristif he's going to spend the rest of his life in jail ? He's going to beout of circulation either way . Didn't the CIA have a chance before hewas arrested ? If by some chance he gets a not guilty verdict then killhim . There's no logical reason to kill someone who is going to spendlife in a maximum security prison Since the premise sets up the story an audience might be choose toignore the plot hole but the assination itself pours fuel upon the fire. Dial's colleague is killed by a police bullet and the taxi they'redriving in crashes but Dial manages to escape . So the police wereclose enough to shoot someone but too far away to apprehend someonefrom a car crash ? The film of this type of plot connivance . LaterDial finds a police inspector pointing a gun at him saying " thisairport is surrounded by armed coppers " yet Dial manages to escapevery easily without explanation . The whole film cheats its audience byrelying on things that are never explained . This includes an importantsupporting character called Emily Day . Why does she help Dial eventhough he's a wanted fugitive ? Your guess is as good as mine This is a fairly poor thriller and don't be taken in by the " big name" cast . Wesley Snipes used to qualify as a film star but killed hiscareer by starring in more and more inconsequental films . CharlesDance also appeared in big budget Hollywood productions such as LASTACTION HERO and ALIEN 3 but again he's someone best known for appearingin straight to DVD fare these days , and he's basically playing a cameorole anyway . The likes of Lena Headey may go on to become big playersin cinema but they'l certainly fail to put THE CONTRACTER on theirresume

Have previously enjoyed Wesley Snipes in several action flicks and Ihad expected a lot more, even from a score of 5.8 IMDb, the movie failsto entertain and even though the story is thin and unoriginal, theacting is most unfortunately thinner and goes to mimic a "worst casescenario" of playing "strong" feelings accompanied by some badacting... Don't waist your time this movie Ãsnt entertaining, if youwanna cry it might suffice though, even though your tears will be weptdue to seeing Wesley Snipes in the tragic action film wannabe comedy...I give this 2/10 it really was awful, if you wanna see a decent moviego see shooter or rent it, its all the good things this movie isn't.

The Contractor stars Wesley Snipes as an assassin who goes to London to kill a terrorist but gets framed for another murder. Set in London, it has a good supporting cast of English actors including Charles Dance, Lena Headey and young Eliza Bennett. For the most part, it's a standard action story, and the occasional dramatic scenes feel a bit out of place, especially those between the young girl and her grandmother. I would have liked less drama and more action from this type of movie. Also, the motivation of the bad guys is somewhat unclear. Still, it was entertaining enough for three stars.

a couple of reasonable action/fight scenes, but overall weak movie. Not worth the time to watch it.

This film was horrible. The script is COMPLETELY unrealistic yet it iswritten to take place in the real-world, the editing and lightingeffects are worse than most first projects in film school.I do not recommend this film to anyone who: A) knows any detail aboutthe world of police or covert operations. B) knows any detail aboutfilm making or appreciation.I do recommend this film to the average or below-average mind, I thinkit would be enjoyable if I was a dumber. If you must watch this film ona full mind, I highly recommend some kind of inebriationIt is a total waste of what little production value it has.
screenman (28 April 2013)
For me, the appearance of Wesley Snipes in a movie is about the worstrecommendation possible. He is the most uncharismatic action figureever brought to screen, eclipsing even the 'muscles from Brussels'. Andwith a title like 'The Contractor', I was anticipating the cheapestkind of action dross. A bland, boring shoot-'em-up. The moral of which is; you shouldn't pre-judge a movie no matter hownegative the omens. Snipes loosened-up and began to ACT instead of just playing a part -that of the cynical action-man more typical of his persona. It wasquite a revelation to see emotion actually register on his usuallydead-pan expression. Perhaps, being set - most unexpectedly - in littleold Britain, the makers realised that dependence upon the sort ofexpansive pyrotechnics employed to gratify the LA crowd just wouldn'tcut it over here. Whatever the case, with British actors outnumberingAmericans, I found it much easier to identify with the characters. Thatalone held my attention for the interim. The pace was much slower, andthe combat scenes - although still rather over-the-top - seemed to takesecond place to story and character development. Putting a child in anymovie is always a reliable way to engage viewer emotion, and this wasno exception. I actually began to care about the characters, evenincluding Wesney Snipes' - which I would hardly have thought possible -and that is what STORY is all about. Most of the players did acompetent job, which was rather a success considering the standards ofdirection. And here is where I join forces with the critics. The technical aspectsof this movie were, quite frankly, incompetent. Time alloted toindividuals was often disproportionate. The editing itself was all overthe place, with flash-cutting and slow-mo work often resulting in avery disjointed experience. The plot was so riddled with gaps andcontinuity flaws that it might have been spliced together from a bunchof out-takes. There was far too much incidental music, which alsovaried excessively in style. Not only that, the 'mood' scores - oftendeveloping some lengthy vocal/choral pieces - were too strident, makingit difficult to understand the more intimate and subtly-spoken dialoguefor who's moment the music was intended to accentuate. And there werelots of silly little things that were still highly significant, likeSnipes' ability to evade capture when surrounded by police (including ahelicopter) without even a change of clothes and also whilst seriouslyinjured. His first wound cleared-up miraculously in just one day. Andhow did he get back to the USA without a passport? And moreover; howdid he manage to remain free when he arrived? These issues requiredexplanation. Some have compared this movie to 'Leon', as an example of how good itmight have been. And the sad thing is; both the money and the actingtalent were available to pull it off. Sadly; the effort failed. I've awarded it 7 stars because I like the British locations and thegeneral level of acting. But judged on technical aspects alone, 4 starswould have been my limit.

This is an average film - the acting and plot are average. However, the trouble is that you cannot really fathom out the plot because of the sound track which seems to find a new, loud and inappropriate sound every 15 seconds. So whilst I agree with the other reviewer about the camera shots, it is the abysmal sound track that repels me. However, this film is one in a long series of new movies that look appealing but are totally destroyed by over zealous sound engineers. It has come to the point where I will not purchase any new DVDs because of it - just revert to the old classics. It is such a pity because some of them are reasonable (e.g. the Shooter) but I want to watch a film; not be constantly distracted and irritated. Have they never heard of the suspension of disbelief? I rented this DVD before buying and I am glad I did. Pull your socks up producers! Oh, and please ask the female lead to stop pouting her lips!

I don't know why the other reviewer hated this movie so much. I enjoyedthe action, as well as the soft side brought on by the little truant,Emily. Wesley Snipes played his role very well. In a world plagued withterrorism, it is good to see that justice is sometimes served. Theduality of Wesley Snipes was interesting. He was a horse lover as wellas a CIA operative. He also had a reluctant tolerance for Emily, who atfirst seemed to get on his nerves. This movie had some good chases, fights, and shooter scenes. I had a good time with it, and if youchoose to skip this one because of a bad review, you will have missed agood movie.

I usually don't write that many reviews bit after seeing this movie, I gotta tell you, don't spending your time even watching it for free. It's not worth it. This movie is disgusting and horrible...
Lunaroseice (24 April 2013)
This movie was not what I expected from Wesley Snipes. I started to getdisappointed. But the more I watched, the more I realize that it wasmis-marketed.It is not an action movie so much as a movie that has some action init. The dialogue is sparse which means the actors really have to workthat much harder. Directing wasn't that bad but the shoot-out withstrobe lights was a poor idea. The longer I watched, the more Iwondered if this is actually a British film rather than an American. The tone was much different. This movie deserves a better rating than people have given it. Trywatching it without thinking of it as an action movie and you may likeit more. It is really an excellent film.
Neil Welch (24 April 2013)
Government assassin Wesley Snipes is set up by his own covert opsorganisation (he really should have known better, didn't he seeShooter?), and ends up on the run in London pursued by his ownorganisation and the Metropolitan Police, with help from troubledteenager Emily.Notwithstanding the fact that the story is very familiar, it ispresented with some panache. Snipes can play this role in his sleep, ofcourse, and pretty much does so. Bulgaria does a pretty good impressionof seedy south London. There is a nice, if unlikely, wrinkle in CharlesDance's relationship with his police officer daughter, and the actionbashes along satisfactorily. On the negative side there is a gun battle early on during which theMetropolitan Police spray automatic weapon fire all over the place in away which would simply not happen (even the controversial de Menezeskilling didn't involve indiscriminate discharge in public of automaticweapons). But on a positive note - a very strongly positive note - there is afabulous performance from Eliza Bennett. She acts Snipes off thescreen, and her performance - naturalistic, humorous and powerfullytouching - raises this movie to a higher level than its otherwiserather pedestrian nature would have taken it to.
flash_b1 (23 April 2013)
Just a warning... This is the worst movie I have seen in years... Icouldn't watch it to the end... It is a pure waste of time... I reallyfeel sorry for Snipes that he ended up in such a movie. There really isnot much to say about it. Horrible acting, incredibly bad lines, story, everything. The only reason I would advise you to watch this movie isif you really want to see how a movie shouldn't be. Just to tell youone scene: the police are searching for Snipes, and they aresurrounding the building with helicopters and cars, they are shootingaround inside the building, but still they are whispering so thatSnipes doesn't suspect a thing.
(22 April 2013)
A good word to describe the whole movie and Wesley Snipes' acting as it were the movie and story line is good along with the action and uforgettable camera working. "The Contractor" is a memorable movie and it is good for people wanting a mysterious action-packed movie.
