Great Finale 15 min

I had read some Luke-warm reviews of "The Next Three Days", but duringa long plane flight, I had decided to watch this movie over reading amagazine. It was a good choice. I enjoyed the way Paul Haggis portrayedand kept together the core family-members, and the acting andcharacters were fairly believable aside from Crowe's character. Crowe'sacting is run-of-mill, and you'll have to suspend belief a little bitwhen thinking about his lack of common sense and street smarts(spoiler) as well as the strain on plausibility in his dealings withsocietal riff-raff. (spoiler) If you can fold up your doubt on the ideathat Crowe's character could mastermind what takes place, I think youwill, like me, enjoy the movie, particularly a stunning finale. For therecord, I hated Paul Haggis's "Crash" with a passion, but this movie isworld's better in terms of entertainment value and script. It's notperfect, but it works. Look for Lennie James as a Detective/Lieutenantwho steals the show in every scene he's in. His performance is the bestin the movie.

Awesome, in a nutshell, have patience fellow movie lovers, this does not disappoint

This movie was awesome I was bored when I started to watch this, I wassaying oh my, this is not all that, but it sucked me in after a fewminutes and took me on an adrenaline ride that was totally unexpected.Awesome flick. Russel, you have my vote all the way on this one. Greatacting, great building up, the script worked, the movie worked...andall those moments where I thought this is it there simply came theseawesome moments, and then more awesomeness. This is one of those thatcatches you off guard, really. Russel and Banks connected in the scenesTruly they could not have gotten a better cast. All the littleunexpected things get your adrenaline going. I recommend this handsdown. It wove together so well, I appreciated the surprises which onlybuilds you up until the end. Great.

Impressive

At the risk of stating the obvious, at its core, this story is not about an escape. So those expecting The Fugitive or Die Hard 19 will be disappointed. To make this a proper Amazon movie review, I'll tell you the story, which you already know. Man's wife is falsely accused and he springs her. But the real story here is how far an ordinary person will go when pushed to the limit, or to flip the coin, what you might expect from somebody who feels they they no longer have much to lose. These two items are handled rather nicely, including Russell Crowe's transition from school teacher to desperado. The only false notes, assuming you can buy the story to begin with, are two strikingly beautiful women fighting over a pudgy community college teacher, another gorgeous young mom who really doesn't serve a purpose in the story, and Liam Neeson's odd and phony accent. But these are more than offset by some great turns like slipping through Customs and of course, finding the garbage bag at the end. Is the whole thing plausible? Well...the escape probably isn't but sadly, the prospect of being falsely accused and convicted seemed absolutely believable to me.

Loving Husband Has to Plot his Wife's Escape from Prison

While I normally love Russell Crow films and think Liz Banks is a fineactress, I much preferred her in Zack and Miri make a Porno. To say youhave to suspend disbelief watching The Next Three Days is nomisunderstatement, mainly because you really can't see or understandwhat's going on for most of the film, even though nothing much happensfor the first 90 minutes.Pittsburgh, Pa. cops bust into the middle class suburban Crow home,Gestapo fashion, to arrest his wife for murder.Years later she's still in jail and you wonder where the time went, yetthe film is still in its early stages...it lasts more than two hours intotal. After exhausting all legal appeals Crow decides to bust his wife out ofjail....and there I became lost because he seemed lost, which obviouslywas the director;s intent, to show a desperate man searching for asolution. But this didn't transfer to the screen well. Insteas Crowseemed to be sleepwalking the tedious planning stages, mostly in thesort of noir darkness we see in some super hero films such as the DarkKnight.Yet, we never really see the plan because it becomes sort of anad hock escape attempt. But, for me the real corker was when the cops get involved...totaltrite worn-out contrivance from start to finish. What took you two hoursto witness, the cops solve in a few minutes. In the end you are leftwith asking why you wasted so much time, and money if you took a dateto see the Next Three Days.Another major flaw with the film, as I mentioned, was its length...amax of 90 minutes would have been better for a film with so littleactual substance.

Yelling at the Screen-Thrilling

I can't remember the last time I was so urgently invested in the plotof a movie to where I'm constantly yelling-willing-urging the characterto do this, do that, no! DON'T DO THAT!!! This film has a deceptivelyslow beginning but builds to a pace that is nail-biting andedge-of-your seat. Something about the characters' actions andreactions (and the amazingly TENSE situations they are in) made this amovie I got intensely emotionally invested in.Crowe absolutely shines. You feel sympathy for his sad situation, youhalf-hate his obsession, and then you hope like hell for his success. Some real swings there, all in one character and one film.Great flick. Just be prepared to grab/hit/throw something whilewatching it, just to relieve the tension!

AWESOME!!!! NONSTOP ACTION/ SUSPENSE

My husband and I watched this movie and thought it was awesome. Without telling the actual story, it was about a man whose wife is accused of murdering her boss. The action pretty much starts right away, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is full of suspense, action and keeps you guessing. If you liked the movie TAKEN, or LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, I would rate this up there with them, which I thought were all great movies. You won't be disappointed.

Good, solid suspense movie

This review is from: The Next Three Days (DVD) I enjoyed this a lot. The plot is good, and hangs together well. In another review of this movie someone noted that he thought the plotting was questionable. Maybe a second veiwing would help him to understand it better. I've watched it three times already, and enjoyed it each time. It's got plenty of action, but not more than necessary. I would like to rate it four and a half, and would've given it five stars if the ending had a more solid resolution. It works the way it was done, but I was left with a feeling of wanting a hint that all would be well, and that they were going to make it...as exiles, and as a family. Maybe a final scene of the entire family (father, mother, child, both sets of grandparents) getting together and looking happy and loving. Too much? Maybe just an embrace between Crowe and his wife instead of her avoiding contact...just something to show they would be happy and think that it had all been worth the effort and sacrifice. All in all, I recommend this highly. It grabs your interest at the beginning and doesn't let go until the end.

La Fugitiva: A Bildungsmovie

Decent on suspense, somewhat shaky on probability.A woman gets mistaken for a killer (like good old Richard Kimble in the ancient TV series and later remake with Harrison Ford) and sentenced away for life (due to a combination of bad luck and bad police work). Unlike Kimble, she can't escape on her own, but needs her husband to get her out the illegal way, after all legal steps have failed. While with Kimble the main story was the near permanency of the flight, here it is the near endlessness of the preparation. Her husband is a teacher, and a decent man. He is as far away from crime and violence as he could have been. He is so innocent that he blames himself for his little boy's problems at school, rather than putting it on the deplorable fact that the mother is a convicted killer. So for him to learn how to free his wife from prison is a major learning process. It is also a project that requires considerable financial resources, and as the housing market is not looking so good just now, and he can't sell his house, he needs to figure out how to come by money in a shorter way.Escapism in its clearest double meaning.P.S. I would have given 4 stars due to good entertainment value, but I can't quite get over the plot sloppiness of the blood spatter on the back of the innocent woman's jacket. Any CSI afficionado can see at first glance that there is no way how such a spot could have been in that place, innocent or guilty.

Good Thriller

This is an above action thriller. It could have cut about a half hour from the beginning, but once it gets going it's a lot of fun. Underrated for sure. I recommend.

intense and compelling (3.5/5)

Russel Crowe plays John and Elizabeth Banks plays his wife.one night she is arrested for murder.after years of fighting with the legal system to try to free her,he learns she will be sent to prison for life in three days.now he must find a way to stop that from happening.this movie is full of suspense and intensity.it's tightly written(Paul Haggis wrote the screenplay)and well directed by Paul Haggis.the acting is superb from both Russel Crowe and Elizabeth Banks, who continues to show her flair as a dramatic actress.Daniel Stern had a small role, but was very impressive as well.this is a film i'd definitely watch again.for me,The Next Three Days is a 3.5/5

Implausible and Predictable

Russel Crowe's wife is sentenced to life for a murder she says she didn't commit, so Russell decides to break her out of jail. Appeals are unsuccessful and she declares that she'd rather be dead than spend the rest of her life behind bars. Crowe then seeks help from an ex-convict (Liam Neeson) who had broken out of prison himself, and prepares a plan. After being beaten-up seeking false IDs, sneaking and shooting his way into a drug house and killing a few meth-labbers, learning a ridiculous means of picking locks, creating false laboratory reports to get his wife transferred to a hospital, Crowe (English teacher at a local community college) springs her and we're off on a long chase scene.

Excitement turned out to be a deception

OK so let let me explain why I gave 1( awful). The movie is great. Isaw it it yesterday at the cinema and I was excited about it. But I wasvery deceived to find out later that it's a COPY-PASTE withinsignificant adds of the not so known and underrated french movie:POUR ELLE (For her) - 2008 !!!!! Unfortunately the French movie didn'thave much publicity and the success went to the American movie becauseof the famous actors like Russell Crowe and Elisabeth Banks. No offenseMr. Crowe and Mrs. Banks. You are my favorites anyway. Missing scenesin the French movie (I mentioned before as "insignificant adds"): -thefight with the sister in law at the beginning of the movie -the kid'spockets when passing the airport security were not filled with coins

good story

This review is from: The Next Three Days (Amazon Instant Video) I love this movie. It has lots of suspense. It is sad that the boy loses his mom. It's so heartbreaking to see the boy become so angry with his mom.

A very bad copy of an excellent European movie!

Again Hollywood decided to copy an amazing movie called - "ANYTHING FORHER" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1217637/. I watched this movie in 2008in Europe and by the way in this movie plays one very famous frenchactor and Diane Kruger. The same great actress from great moviesNational Treasure and Troy. She is a wonderful actress and a verypretty woman. Needless to say I was blown away by this movie! I mean Iwatch movies on a daily basis and can pretty much judge the play of theactors and the plot within the first 10 min and decide if it is worthwatching it. The movie started and I could not stop watching it untilit finished! A truly great movie! See the original for yourself! Notthis COPY! Sorry but try to create something new ladies and gentlemenfrom Hollywood!

10 Stars!!!

For me this movie had 130 minutes of action. It was like a page turner, thrilling from the beginning til the end. Have to admit that I never heard about it before, so I watched it totally unbiased and THEN got curious and checked out the message board on the imdb.com and the reviews here in amazon.com.I have watched many boring movies in my life which got great reviews and had some of the best actors and promising plots, but to me they simply didn't deliver. For some reason this movie seems to be very controversial (I was amazed that there are 9 (!) pages of board messages on the imdb.com...usually there is not more than one page with 7 or 8 topics per film) and lots of people don't like it and claim it's just another average Hollywood production. Well, it's not. It's more than that.First of all it has everything for me that I expect from a great thriller: it's totally unpredictable (good plot with many twists and turns and basically no plot holes), has a great cast, an interesting location, a good soundtrack and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the first minute on. While watching the movie, I got carried away to the point that I forgot it's just a movie (usually I can tell myself while watching movies that this is just a movie). I cannot give any film a bigger compliment than that! For me it doesn't get any better than this! We watch on an average 5 to 6 movies per week (mostly on weekends, we are both movie buffs), moreover we also go to the movie theaters a lot, but when I try to remember the last good thriller that I've seen, it has been 2 or 3 years. So this certainly is not the average Hollywood production or I couldn't be as delighted as I am.

Complex and original

What I really loved about this movie is that it didn't take an hour to establish whether or not the wife was guilty or not. Instead it focused on the husband's attempt to organize her escape from prison, shifting focus to the cops who are pursuing him to the point that there are not good or bad guys. The grey area of morality this movie lands itself in as a result of this combination makes this movie extremely interesting and original. Also the acting by all involved is top notch. Definitely worth going out of your way and seeing this sadly overlooked film.

Gritty and noir-ish

Another noir French thriller is converted into a 'noir-ish' Americanthriller. Russell Crowe's slightly thuggish looks make him moreconvincing as the desperado of the second half than the mild-manneredschoolteacher of the first half. Elizabeth Banks's role as theimprisoned wife is slightly under-written; their cute toddler sonsteals most of her scenes and even some of Russell's.The plot takes too long to set up, so the first half of the film is aslow haul. But the last half has almost the cracking pace of a DIE HARDromp. Writer/director Paul Haggis elects to deceive the audience aswell as the police who are in close pursuit of the fugitives, whichputs this in the tradition of 'classics' like TO CATCH A THIEF andCHARADE. Gritty and enjoyable.

A Somewhat Satisfying Russell Crowe Movie

This review is from: The Next Three Days (Amazon Instant Video) I came into the movie thinking that it was going to be about one thing but it turned out to be slightly different. The previews seem to indicate that this was a movie about a man (Russel Crowe) who breaks his wife out of jail after she committed a horrible crime. Without giving away the details of the movie to all of you potential viewers that is not exactly how it goes down. Yes Crowe helps his wife escape but it is not exactly a jail-break scenario. I thought the movie was ok but not great. There was definitely a fair bit of action that kept me entranced and made the flight go much faster but overall the plot was dull, it was fairly predictable, and in the end you really were not sure if she did or did not do it.

A beautifully executed film

I saw this film without any expectations. The film gradually builds thetension and suspense. I found it very enthralling till the very end.The acting performances are good, the direction is brilliant and thestoryline has enough to keep you intrigued.I don't normally write reviews but I noticed that this film has so fargrossed much less than its estimated budget. I just think it is a pitythat quality films such as these offer no incentive commercially forthe film-makers to continue making them. I thoroughly enjoyed everyminute of this movie and I am just afraid that I won't have more futureopportunities to enjoy films like this.

Oustanding!! Critics r wrong....

I first saw the critics before watching the movie. And what a surprisingly awesome the movie turned out!! I m so glad that first time ever I listened to my heart. This is a film which will make u feel each and every emotion of the actors. I particularly liked the direction of Paul haggis as he makes u realise the emotions of guy who has not even taken a hit towards any person, who has not ever handled a gun, who is a loving father and is going to break his wife out of jail by doing any fellony that would come in way. Russel Crowe is simply awesome. Even Elizabeth is superb though she has a small role to play. But guys dont let go this movie. Grab it any time. This is a movie that will worth every penny u spent and more!!!!
