A modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. The Princess and the Frog finds the lives of arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen and hardworking waitress Tiana crossing paths. Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician and Tiana, following suit, upon kissing the amphibian royalty. With the help of a trumpet-playing alligator, a Cajun firefly, and an old blind lady who lives in a boat in a tree, Naveen and Tiana must race to break the spell and fulfill their dreams.

This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I've seen the movie so many times that I'm starting to wish I hadn't bought it, but my daughter loves it (3 yrs old), so that makes it all worth while. I'm told it's a classic animation, but it doesn't seem dated at all. It's actually a nice story of determination, love and success. You can't go wrong with a bluray/DVD combo either because you can watch the BR at home and the DVD on the road in a portable player.

The Princess and the FrogThe age-old hook-up between princesses and frogs is a likelyexplanation as to why most members of the royal family are born withtails. Oops. Apparently the growth of a wagging appendage is not theresult of intermingling between species, but between family members. With aspirations of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans, Tiana(Anika Noni Rose) must put those fantasies on-hold when she and aspoiled prince (Bruno Campos) are transformed into amphibians at thehand of a Voodoo practitioner. Now the pair must find a real princessfor the prince to kiss before both are confined to their cold-bloodedforms forever.Overflowing with zany anthropomorphic characters and lively song anddance numbers, The Princess and the Frog is a return to classic Disney2-D animation. As for dating a frog prince: if he ever dumps you, dissect him in biology and get herself an A+. (Green Light)

This review is from: The Princess and the Frog (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) My daughter and the family loves this cartoon. It brings me back to the original Disney cartoons rather than all the computer animated stuff they have been doing lately. It will be known as a classic disney film. I wish they would make more cartoons like this.

This was a good movie but kinda predictable. It didn't have that magical feeling like Disney's old movies.

The voodoo in this movie gave me the creeps, and I'm an adult! I will not be letting my daughter see this movie and I definitely wouldn't call it a 'kid's movie.' Having the story set in New Orleans should have been interesting (especially the music, one would think) but instead it was just plain terrible. It would be difficult to identify what the worst part of the movie was: the satanic themes, the scary shadows and death scene (not fit for young children!), the painfully slow plot development, the obnoxious poorly written songs, the incredibly boring dialogue, the stereotypical characters (which I'd imagine could be offensive to some), the lame prince, or just the overall bad experience. Will definitely never see it again or recommend it to anyone. The highlight of the movie was when the firefly shot out of a person's nose. Seriously.

The Princess and the Frog is another great Disney classic that I willbe sure to share with my family. As a little girl growing up I did nothave a princess of my race to look up to, but at least now my littlesister will have one. Tiana is a hardworking girl and she has a lot ofmorals and dreams. I'm glad Disney did this because their princessmovies inspire so many people, especially little girls. I also love howPrince Naveen was so different from her and yet they went together verywell. The plot and characters are great. It has good humored comedy forthe whole family to enjoy, not just the children. The music was greatto sing-along too. Overall a great story and it's one I'll alwaysremember.

This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) My children love this movie. It is great to see Disney return to the animation and musical styles of old. The blu-ray combo pack is a great way to get all three formats. I have used all three. One for the car, one at home and the digital copy on the ipod. All movies should come out this way. I pre-ordered this item and the price dropped before it was shipped, so I received a credit from Amazon for the difference. Thank you Amazon. Because of this service and the prices, I never purchase movies in retail stores anymore.

When I first learned of this film's production in 2006, I wassurprised, overjoyed, yet skeptical that hand-drawn animation couldsuccessfully be reintroduced to such a disinterested public, stillenthralled by the magic of CGI. Lucky for myself and millions of otheranimation buffs, the art of 2D has returned in full force, and thisfilms succeeds on so many different levels that I just had to write areview.First and foremost; this film, in its storytelling, art and music, isfor the most part genuine. In using this word, I mainly mean todifferentiate it from its competition; the animated films of the pastdecade or so have been so "contemporary" and self-dating, through theiradded topical humor (see: Shrek, Home on the Range, Over the Hedge, most CGI films) that I find watching them to be a chore. The Princessand the Frog gains much respect from me by avoiding any superfluousreferences to the present day, and thereby serves well serves thepurpose of an animated movie: to make the audience forget about theirown dreary lives for 90 minutes by transporting them to a time andplace far away from anything they've ever seen, heard or otherwiseknown.Speaking of musicals, there's plenty of music in this film, and it'sall wonderful. The sheer density of the brilliantly staged and animatedmusical numbers almost made me dizzy, to the point that I wished forone long, quiet stretch; however, I gave Disney the benefit of thedoubt here, as the children of 2009 are probably a bit more wired andless patient than those of, say, 1994 (when I, at age four, took myvery first trip to the theater to see The Lion King, an impeccablypaced feature), and they still make up the bulk of this picture'saudience. As for the animation: flawlessly expressive and fluid, for the mostpart, and even an improvement on most of Disney's recent past (save forThe Rescuers Down Under, which, like The Princess and the Frog, wasproduced on new software previously unused for a "canon" Disneyfeature, and probably served therefore as an experiment in animationtechniques). If you've a sharp eye, though, you can find two or threebrief "almost completed" shots, where lipsynch is off. In perspective(3 iffy ones out of several thousand), this is certainly forgivable, though something that might not have passed during Ron Clement'searlier days as director. He's still hauling butt, overall, and I'mhappy to see such prolific talents as Andreas Deja (Scar) return toform in the animation department. In regards to Disney's first black princess/heroine? It's about time. Iwas wondering years ago why Disney had waited until the very end tofeature black characters, but it was something I almost never thoughtabout while sitting in the theater, a true marvel given the loadedconnotations that are often derived from the "old South," and how easyit is to make certain watchdogs mad. Any ordinary American should beable to watch this film, from start to finish, without much huffing andpuffing whatsoever, as every character is treated as more- or-less afunctioning human(oid) (save for one particular "Three Stooges"inspired sequence, which was funny nonetheless).Do go see this movie. If you have children, bring them; this is a great"first movie" experience, and while not necessarily as epic andprolific as The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, it has earned itsplace in animation history.

This movie was fantastic with very catchy songs and beautiful animation and artwork. However, the only thing I can point out is that the voodoo thing should have gotten it a higher rating. I'm not overly disturbed like some other people are, but it definitely should have been PG. And honestly it's nothing new to classic Disney. There have been plenty of Disney villains who used some form of dark magic. Ursula, Jafar, Malficient, etc. I'm older so I can understand it and not get scared, but I also know a lot of little kids who weren't scared either. If you like it, fine. If you don't, fine. Just quietly go your own way and don't ruin it for others.

Less than twenty minutes in, "The Princess and the Frog" speaksdirectly to me. A character says to another: "if you are going tocomplain about every little thing, it's going to be a very long night."I hate it whenever a film contains its own blurb. The film ispractically daring the cynics, saying, "I double-dog dare you to writebad things about this film! How can somebody dismiss a Disney movieabout romance and being yourself?" Terribly easy, actually.Look: I knew I wasn't going into a movie that I had to ponder over allnight. Critical barriers have to be down with a Disney film not broughtto me by Pixar; it's the kind of film to grab a cheeseburger fromMcDonald's and munch away before paying for your ticket, and getting acomfortable seat in the back ten minutes before the previews start. It's just that  the movie doesn't even try. Within the first shot, Ihad abused my eyes to a sea of pink. A mother was telling her daughterand her daughter's friend a story about a princess and a frog (nicetouch). The next scene: the little girl goes home with her mom andmakes a wonderful batch of soup with a loving father for the wholeneighborhood. This is Disney, and we can't, of course, have an extendedperiod of bliss; the father is dead by the next scene and the daughteris grown, hoping to gain enough money waiting tables so she could openher own restaurant in honor of her father -- who wanted the same thingbut never lived long enough for it. Okay, okay: this is pretty bad. Then again, a lot of movies have shaky beginnings, and they just layeron the good stuff thereafter. But wait: what's that? Is said youngwoman carrying around a picture that her father made when she was alittle girl? Is she singing to her elder mother about how one dayshe'll have a restaurant of her own? Ohmigosh, it's one of thosemovies, isn't it? I ran for the exit, hoping for a quick relief. Nosuch luck; a pudgy usher had cleverly blocked off the exit since thatpreview for that new Jackie Chan movie co-starring George Lopez andBilly Ray Cyrus, and will only allow theatergoers to leave in the caseof an emergency -- your Milk Duds spilling and you need to buy a newone. I sank into the seat. After all, how long can 90 minutes be? "ThePrincess and the Frog" certainly never wastes a minute -- filling itwith festive backgrounds and questionable lines for the voice actors torecite that it feels like two minutes instead of one. This is a movie for kids! I am aware of this -- but shouldn't there beentertainment for the poor saps that had to drive the rugrats to thecinema? Show me an adult that enjoys alligators playing a trumpet andI'll show you a person that lost it at the movies somewhere in between"The Wild Thornberry Movie" and "Curious George". Besides: I'm not toosure kids will enjoy themselves -- what, with witch doctors taking theblood of a prince and putting in a necklace in the shape of a skull andzapping them into frogs just for giggles. Also, apparently said witchdoctor employs these shadows that can push and shove living creatures.I'm sure this movie will make a lot of money this weekend, if only outof curiosity. Tiana is being proclaimed the newest Disney Princess.Running time her character appears as you see it in your child's happymeal: about 15 - 20% in a 90 minute film. I'd accuse Disney's writersof being mildly racist in not allowing their black princess to gracethe screen longer in her skin, but that would insinuate that I amsuggesting that the film will be remembered longer than it takes you tofind the exit, and that's a compliment I simply am not willing to make. For what it's worth, I only counted one surly use of "mmmhmmm," and notonce did somebody say "aw hell naw." And, because I am feeling lessgypped out of my money than I did a few paragraphs ago, I should saythat "The Princess and the Frog" contains an invaluable moral for everydreamer out there: "wish upon a star, and, if you're lucky, a niceprince will marry you and let you have your dreams realized." Howsweet.Rating: * out of ****

Most of what I have to say about this movie is obvious. The first blackDisney princess is a frog for most of the movie. However, this is notobvious. The first black Disney princess is not a princess, but a verypoor young lady working at a restaurant in New Orleans in the early1920s saving up another money to open a restaurant. Tiana's father diedin World War I before he could fulfill his dream of opening arestaurant. The ugly firefly died. These topics were too serious for achildren's animation. Also, the prince was cut off by his parents. Andhis servant had low self esteem and was tricked by the man whoperformed voodoo. This movie had a happy ending like all other DisneyAnimations. But it had too many serious messages!

Just watched this yesterday and I absolutely loved it! This is how Iremember Disney from my youth. Lots of good music, and a good, happyfeeling all the way through. Combined with the 2D, shell shaded feelsimilar to movies like The Lion King, this truly feels like a Disneyproduction. The story is good, although not very hard to predict. But there arestill some twists to how you'd normally think the story should be(without spoiling anything), which is very nice. The music is the best thing about this movie, especially if you likeNew Orleans music. Disney really did a good job here. It might not topsome of the tunes from The Lion King, which have become quite famous, but its close. The second best thing is the characters! There is a wide array ofstereotypical characters, but they all fit the story very well, andnone of them become boring or irritating. Brilliant ideas such as thealligator that just wants to play trumpet on a streamliner, and thefirefly who's in love with a shining star just fit right into thestory. All in all, an absolute must-see for everyone who loves the magic ofDisney!

About thirty years ago , i lived in greater New Orleans (Kenner , near Jefferson Downs horse race track) and delivered food products all over the state . Simply put , i love everything about Louisiana and it's people , food , music , history , culture , cities , towns , traditions and so on . I really like films set in and around the state as well . This film is not exempt . I think time will be very kind to this wonderful film and all its various facets and participants . A beautiful picture for young and old . Not even the melting pot that is New york could be as diverse and interesting as "The Planet Of New Orleans" as Mark Knopfler might suggest in said tune .

The story sucked )= It was just too ... '' modern ''Some of the songs were nice but not excellent The animation was AWESOMEThe dialogue was mild and I was just wondering ... Where's the Disneymagic ?The story was not romantic enough )= Can I send a story to Disney tohelp them ? Pretty PLEASE ????Come on ... where are the classics like Beauty and the Beast ? Or theLion King ? Where is the passion , the story , the inspiration and thetradition ?It's just 3-D products and 2-D junk ):I need to help Disney The thing about classics is that they are CLASSICEverlasting and not too modern or too ancient but something that is inbetween them or beyond them and for the agesDisney needs new writers

I am so happy that Disney brought back hand drawn animation with betterstorytelling. This is Disney's best 2d film since Lilo and Stitch andBrother Bear! The songs are quite catchy and the characters areamazing! The jokes are really likable in this film! I'm so astonishedby the animation in this film! We have a villain that is morecompelling and menacing! It's too bad it wasn't successful enough tobeat Pixar films because the boys thought this title is girly; but Idon't care how girly the title is. The title's is about right! If someof youy think the title's girly, just enjoy the movie because it has 2danimation, Dr facilier(because he's a great villain, and a love story. It is about time that we get to see the romantic story between Naveenand Tiana. This is why I love this animated film!

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG is a different sort of Disney princess movie. Oh, all the iconic trappings are here: "wishing upon a star", "the handsome prince", "a fairy godmother", "an ugly stepsister," "an evil villain", and "a Cinderella-like princess". But this time, Disney digs a little deeper, taking these icons to newer, more modern, stronger heights. In THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, "wishing upon a star" AND hard work make dreams come true, "the handsome prince" is a bit of a scallywag, "the fairy godmother" is a Bayou voodoo queen, "the ugly stepsister" is a bit shallow, but also beautiful, warm, caring, and the best friend of "the princess, "the evil villain" is a down on his luck voodoo huckster, and "the Cinderella-like princess" is a waitress who works too hard and has forgotten how to have fun.THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG is not your standard the-prince-saves-the-princess-and-they-all-live-happily-ever-after fairytale. Rather, it is a story of the prince and the princess working together to solve their problems, each complementing the other, and helping each other to grow. The choices are hard and not always clear. This princess is very strong and capable; she works hard for her dreams, but still learns to risk wishing upon the star. What a wonderful new role model! And along the way, she has her family and friends to lean on.I have already watched THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG twice with my nearly 5 year old daughter, and she has declared the evil villain "not scary." The scenes involving "the shadow man" are a little dark, but at the same time they are vivid and colorful. They are also a bit vague, which detracts from their scariness. (If you aren't paying attention, you will miss things. Which may be how Disney planned it.) Overall, I would put those scenes at the same scary-level as the "Heffalumps and Woozles" song from Winnie the Pooh. And let's not forget the wonderful music from THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. Again, Disney has gone in a completely different direction from its norm. THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG is set in New Orleans, and the music is everything you can imagine it should be: jazzy, bright, bold, and bouncy with a Cajun spice. Toe tappin' and head boppin'! What a great change of pace! Also of note is the fact that THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG is hand-drawn like the original Disney animated movies. And I must say it is quite a vibrant and lovely masterpiece. Computers are NOT always better! My entire family really is really enjoying THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (even my nearly 13 year old). I anticipate many more viewings in the weeks to come. Quirky, unique, and a little bit odd-ball, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. I think this movie will surprise you. It sure surprised me.

This review is from: The Princess and The Frog (Three Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) As soon as the movie came out, I knew I was going to get the Blu-Ray for it. This movie is absolutely the best new animated movie for Disney. The Blu-ray combo pack really gives me the chance to watch it and share it with my friends. The extra features on the Blu-ray really give amazing back story about what the movie is and came from. Well worth the little extra.

Let me begin by saying that our family loves Disney movies. We own around 400 different titles covering everything you can think of. So when I say that a Disney title is not worth buying (let alone watching)it has to be really bad. First, this movie should be rated PG-13 for the voodoo, shadow people, and the scene of the bad guy being dragged down to the bad place. Think of the scene in Ghost where the bad guy gets dragged off by the shadows and ask yourself if you want your little kids watching that. Same thing here. Maybe even worse.Next, the characters were flat and boring. They were so stereotypical I found myself wondering what was for dinner rather than wondering how the movie would end. Finally, the real hook for this film was to present the first black princess. And yet she spends most of the movie as a frog. What is up with that? This title will be on my (short) list of Disney movies I will never buy or watch again. Thank goodness Toy Story 3 came out so there is something worth watching from Disney this year.
