Please stop making these movies!

The first movie was cute and entertaining. I was pleasantly surprisedthat Bay could take a beloved toy and cartoon from the '80's and makeit into a good action flick. Beyond the first movie, there really isn'tthat much of a story to tell and so they should have stopped.Transfomers also lack a wider culture to draw from so each movie feelsthe same- I'll compare it to Indiana Jones which usually has the samehero and villains, Nazis, but Indiana has the benefit of a plethora ofinteresting civilizations to write stories around. So please stopHollywood, stop making these movies. They are merely a product forconsumption and merchandising. This movie was way too long with unending action scenes. Am I the onlywho gets annoyed by Shia's fumbling? I felt the movie also went into aninappropriate realm the others didn't. There was a scene where a man iskilled and it is made to look like a suicide. It is depicted comicallyas he falls by the window and there are even jokes afterwards about himbeing splatted on the pavement. This is just one example. I don't minddark humor but this just seemed out of place with the tone and audienceof the movie. I thought these movies were at least in part for kids?Lastly, since I completely zoned out in the middle of the movie and wasjust hoping it was going to end soon, something dangerous startedhappening - I got to thinking. Autobots are supposed to be genderneutral but are all voiced by men? Why? It is not as if they havesynthetic voices. There does seem to be an affect on some of the voicesto add a deeper growl but why can't that be applied to a female voice? The autobots could have the same personalities and be voiced by awoman. I would guess most people view the transformers as all male. Ilooked into matter and read how at one time female autobots were addedbut were somewhat anatomically correct and were stereotypically morefeminine. Sigh... However, I'll take no female voiced autobots overgiving "female" autobots breasts and gender specific roles which is farmore tragic! These movies are decidedly male and I do not mean thatbecause they have explosions.I gave it 2 stars because someone works very hard on the CGI.

Terrible waste of money and time!

This is beyond doubt the worst scripted film I ever seen - the actorsare OK, the FX impressive, and so is all the computer graphics, but thescript stinks. Most of the the battles are great, but the logic of itall just stinks, from moment one to the finish! Naturally they have just one missile (so you better not miss) that cansave the world, and so on and on! I loved the first, thought the second was OK, but this will go into thewaste bin, no doubt about that! Sorry Shia! And Megan did the right thing to keep out of this mess -the new gal with the silicone lips is OK, but not an actor of thecaliber needed to save a movie this bad!

Another swing and a miss (minor spoilers)

We've come full circle and Michael Bay never realized that if he didn'tsell out to market toys, sell drinks, and make a buck at every corner,he could have still made a load of cash and turned out a great productas well. The scene where the bird-like Decepticon murdered the familyshows the kind of horror and menace that he could have built into eachfilm and each Decepticon to make them true villains. Megatron couldhave become a menace in the same class as other historic on screenvillains....instead, he was a mostly absent figure throughout 3 filmsthat said some mean things, yet was completely incapable of everappearing as more than a stumbling fool that was only a danger toanyone because he was so large. I doubt that anyone looked at the duelat the end of the film with any emotion that they were trying todestroy a truly evil villain......just some big Decepticon that maderandom appearances and couldn't really be taken seriously as a threat.Vader was a serious threat in Star Wars because he kicked therebellion's rear in Empire.....the Decepticons never came close to anEmpire moment. The opening 5 minutes of the first film, and scarce moments of the 3rdfilm were the only fulfilling scenes of the entire trilogy when it wasobvious that if each of the films followed that tone, that we couldhave had some special storytelling of good and evil on ourhands....instead, we were bombarded with teenybopper scenes to getlaughs, and ghetto speech to get the people that are going to makeIdiocracy come to pass do their best LOL.This movie drug along for a good while with nothing but the weak humancharacters trying to carry a flimsy mystery tale. Every time you'dthink you were about to settle in to a serious film with terrifyingconsequences, Turturro's character (the most annoying character in filmsince Jar Jar Binks)was in the way again of any kind of plotdevelopment...it just drove home the point that Bay wanted to make somany factions happy that he completely lost his way and produced a lotof drivel dressed up with cool special effects and visuals. You willonly enjoy this if you don't like thinking and you can tolerate heavydoses of stupid jokes and idiot humor. This movie had promise, but missed, as did the entire series...sadlysome potentially awesome villains were reduced to tools that couldn'ttake over a city, much less the planet. How is it the Decepticonswhipped the Autobots right off of their own planet, but when they hadthem incredibly outnumbered in 2 of 3 films they never stood a chanceat defeating them? How is it that their armor is basically like sodacan aluminum when fired at by human machine guns in some scenes? Humansoldiers taking down multi-ton killing machines with parachutes is athreat to humanity? Hopefully someone in touch with the darkerpotential of the series can reboot it and give us what it might havebeen.

Wow...

I cant believe i am saying this but Michael Bay has done it he hasfinally made a big action movie with huge explosions good...which isnot only amazing but breathtaking.I am going to start this review bygiving you small plot details.During the final days of the war that devastated the planet Cybertron,a spacecraft known as The Ark attempted to escape. Piloted by the greatAutobot leader named Sentinel Prime (Leonard Nimoy), the ship was saidto contain special items that could help the Autobots win the war overthe Decepticons. However, the ship was hit by enemy missiles, and theship and its crew were lost into the far reaches of space.Yea a plot that sounds like that could mean the worst movie of alltime...but nope. This movie is amazing it has fantastic acting, editing, writing, anddirecting.Plus the 3D is amazing, I was really worried about paying 11 bucks tosee this in 3d but it was well worth the price of admission. There's so much stuff in this movie a fantastic story in a Michael bayfilm is hard to come by but this movie has it which is amazing and iwas on the edge of my seat most of the time. I actually cared about thegood guys in this which surprised me. This is definitively a winner ofa movie. I Cant really talked much more about this movie or i will giveaway allot of the movie which i really don't want to do because thismovie is a real treat.Final Verdict:Pros:Great Story Great Writing Great ActingCons:there is still unneeded Comedy but not as much as ROTFStarts of a little slow.

Barf bag compulsory

Someone made a mess of the plot . With a wafer thin storyline and theaction blinded by stupidity for eg. in one scene 'humans' creep alongthe street undetected under the 'watchful' eyes (come one - how canaliens be this stupid ?) this is way up there with disappointingsequels. Everywhere there is a sense of deja vu with the 'luuuuuv'thrown in. Action scenes are few and far between - if you expecting 3Dto dial up the moves - don't. Worst ever movie i have seen in recenttimes . Not to be rude or offensive but in close up shots,RosieHuntington-Whiteley appears to be less feminine and looks like a blokewith thick lips (??). of course she can't deliver her lines - she isnot an actor. She is a body with a few lines to speak. No chemistryseen with Shia. to conclude - no amount of action or hi tech wizardrytopped with 3D can be a substitute for the age old the story has to bereasonably good. Period.

JoeC345 (22 May 2012)

Just a good fun movie.

Here's the thing, you don't go into a movie like this expecting to see"The Kings Speech" because you will be horribly disappointed if you setthat kind of standard for a summer blockbuster movie. It recent years Ihave stop reading a lot of critics because it seems they have forgottensometimes you just need to not analyze so much and just sit back andenjoy the show.Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the third movie installment in thisfranchise and surprisingly, almost as good as the first one. After"Revenge of the Fallen" it seemed this franchise was doomed, and Ididn't want to see this one at first but a few buddies informed me itwas actually good, so I decided to give it a chance.A half hour in or so it seemed this movie wasn't going anywhere and theplot seemed as thin as before but then it all starts up. To say this isan action movie is almost an understatement, since during the last houror so it's hard to find a scene where something is not blowing up orcrashing or being shot at. However contrary to what other critics havesaid it wasn't an insult to the ears. The plot that can be a little hard to follow at times with all themindless violence, but it doesn't really matter it's not thatcomplicated. Even though I will say this time the plot is far more funto watch and easier to understand then the convoluted "Revenge of theFallen".I would like to talk about the acting in this movie but there reallyisn't any. It's hard to act while literally everything is blowing uparound you and people just keep yelling things. There are some niceone-liners though. As a director Michael Bay is known for mindless action movies andsometimes he fails and sometimes as with this one he succeeds. Some ofthe statements above may seem to be denouncing this film but therereally not, since like I said at the beginning you just have to sitback and enjoy the show.Side note: I've seen 3 movies in the last couple weeks which is moremovies that I've seen in theaters in months. 2 of which I saw in 3D(Captain America and the last Harry Potter movie). I didn't feel likespending the extra money to see this in 3D and I think I made the wisechoice. The Colors seemed brighter and even thought this is the lesserof the 3 movies I would almost want to say I had a better experience inthis one.

Spectacular Bay-hem....

'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' showcases the best and worst ofdirector Michael Bay. As incoherent as the plot may be, the metal-maniaon the other end, is a spectacle of cataclysmic proportions. Acting inthis film must be more difficult for the actors themselves, rather thanfor the audience to see them but it isn't about them. It never reallywas. When Michael Bay brought the alien robot race to Planet Earth, itwas made very clear that it's always going to be about them. Thus, youwill be made to watch this T:3 through the eyes of the Decepticons towhom, humans don't matter. So shall be your approach while watching theabsolute Bay-hem that dominates the movie's tedious 157 minute length.Only then, will you have a blast....Following the likes of George Lucas and Wachowski Brothers, Bayventures forth with his indulgent film-making with some of the bestartists around who aid the rendering of his metallic vision withgargantuan destruction being the enthralling lure for devotees, much tothe shame of critics who shunned them on every new venture but couldn'tstop their movie installments from making billions. These films arebeyond critics. The sheer scale of their production and presentationwarrants a mandatory viewing regardless of their critique for onedoesn't chase their substance but their astounding visual effects thatmake it all larger- than-life. Apollo 11, USA's maiden voyage to set a man on the moon, has been acover-up to the discovery of an Autobot ship's wreckage that escapedthe last battle on Cybertron. For over 40 years, humans and Autobotsalike, have been kept in the dark about the dark side of the moon.Optimus Prime uncovers the conspiracy on a mission in Chernobyl wherehe discovers familiar parts to be used for teleportation by Autobots. After convincing the bossy head of the secret Government agency,Optimus flies to the moon to bring home Sentinel Prime, deactivated inthe ship's wreckage. With the matrix, he brings Sentinel to life andalong with him the apocalypse that had been planned all this while, bythe Decepticons. A jobless Sam (Shia LaBeouf), in desperate search forcredit, is suspicious of his new girlfriend's boss but takes up hisoffer to work. He inevitably becomes a part of the new battle againstthe Decepticons, much to the dislike of his girl (RoseyHuntington-Whiteley) and his annoying parents. While the pillars areassembled all over, hundreds of decepticons are summoned to Chicago asthey prepare to teleport Cybertron into Earth's atmosphere. Thus beginsthe hour long devastation of Chicago in 3D as Decepticons lay a siegeon a much destroyed city, while military operatives dive down fromairplanes in bat-wing-suits while our world's leaders decide to sendthe Autobots off into far away space. But this was never about humansstanding a chance by themselves..... Devoid of any richness, emotion or rationale is the tale of humanshere. Sam's relationship with Carly lacks chemistry and with herfashionably plastic persona, the rawness of Megan Fox will be deeplymissed. John Turturro's Simmons is now a haughty, attention- seekingnon-contributor whose presence is questionable. The same goes withGibson and Duhamel, whose military persons don't carry any weight insuch out-of-control situations. John Malkovich and Frances McDormandare wasted in inexplicably empty roles. Those who draw our attentionaway from the void of these soulless characters are Sentinel Prime,Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and the numerous talkative Autobotswho are richer both in character, dialog and screen presence. Indeed, such is their transformation that one can analyze them as though theywere humans. That is of course, until Michael Bay puts them in Chicago.Bay is at his cinematic best in the carnage that spans highways, highrise buildings, city streets and skies. He renders 3D in its best formsince 'Avataar' to dazzle the viewer with robots, guns and humansflying through the screen. The special effects surpass all priorattempts at depicting metallic annihilation of a city and while thereis a resemblance to some of Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds', itsintensity is pure and unique. As Shockwave goes through the epicdeconstruct of a building, Optimus Prime slices through Decepticons,Bumblebee repeatedly transforms from and into a sexy Camaro, we witnessthe prowess of Bay-hem and the might of one man's vision to enthrall anaudience. 'Revenge of the Fallen' was criticized for its plot and characterdevelopment but it looks richer in those aspects when compared withDark of the moon where the plot's sheer incoherence is louder than theclang of metal. Why do the characters exist and why do they do whatthey do? Sam's relationships are irrelevant and so are his jobinterviews when total devastation is upon Earth. It takes over 50minutes for the film to grind its gears but then, it does follow upwith summer's most explosive action. Bay succeeds in making 3D lookworthwhile and his robots cooler than before but we could've only hopedfor a shorter length that focused more on them rather than theexcessive human role. There might not be a sequel to follow becauseMegatron, Starscream and much of the Decepticons are destroyed to thecore by Optimus and his Autobots. Thrice the aliens have tried toinvade and have failed. Another attempt would seem ridiculous forParamount to even finance. In the end, this isn't a movie outing you base on reviews. Ratingsdon't matter in this case. What matters is that you are among the firstweek viewers who contribute to a stellar opening as always for thisfranchise. While Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots pledges hispresence forever on Planet Earth, to save and protect, you werethere....in the theater... to witness it all.- 8.069 on a scale of 1-10.

People - It's A MOVIE

Great special effects, great action. Okay, so I'm generous here, butall those panners out there, really, people want to be entertained.$300 Million + at the box office. Look at all those big ticket actormovies. Probably didn't break even. And analyzing the physics andrealism??? WTF??? Hey - is there a physics textbook about sentientrobots? Have any of you folks traveled into space to speak withauthority?HEY! It's a movie for people who want to be entertained, which, judgingby the box office receipts, America wants to be entertained. All of thewannabe critics who feel there's no plot, no heart, no realism, (amisnomer since it's SCI-FI), see a play instead. I loved this move, and so did most of the movie goers out there, whospend their money to be entertained. Don't believe me? Look back overthe past ten years to see what the public has been watching. It's allbeen moving towards ENTERTAINMENT, not human stories, not higher art,not big name actors. This was a thoroughly entertaining movie. If you love action andadventure, you should see it. Rates up there with Ironman 1 and 2,Aliens, Star Wars, etc. You get the picture. (No pun intended)GO SEE IT ALREADY.

Walked Away Impressed...Mostly

Michael Bay and Transformers 3 Writers: Take Notes.Story: Apollo 11 really went up to investigate an Autobot ship thatcrashed into the moon. The whole thing was covered up, happy day. OK,here begins my first beef with the film. Just how many things 'happen'to crash on/near Earth? A giant cube, OK. Ancient transformers plantinga device to harvest energy from the sun...stretching it. Now a hugebloody ship crashing into the moon carrying the means to teleport awhole planet...no. Moving on...Shia LaBeouf...you were a perfectly reasonable relatabletie to humanity in a otherwise machine-dominated movie, but Michael youmust understand: your movie is called Transformers. This is whatviewers like myself are paying to see...and you have no business namingit as such if your focal point...and the only point you seemed to careabout in this film, is how much Sam Witwicky needs a job. And whilewe're on the subject of old Sam, Mike. Why, oh why if you had such ahard-on not to have Megan Fox in this film, did you replace her withthe stale, botox injected, simply god-awful piece of wanna-be-eye-candythat appeals to 40 year-old virgins still clinging to a hope of gettingwith Cameron Diaz, that is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley? Thankfully, youhad the good sense to only refer to the plausible reason Megan Fox wasnot in the movie with only a millisecond of dialogue, but it was amillisecond of BS. I mean, come on. They discovered an alien racetogether, helped save humanity not once but twice. I think a marriagewould at least be in order here. OK, I'm done ranting on why Meganshould have REALLY been in this movie. Other characters featuredincluded Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson as the awesome NEST teamcommanders, the latter retired. Regardless, they are still bad ass inthis film, and I was greatly pleased to see them returned. However withthe parents...I had issues with their inclusion. It felt...the bestword would be off. It's as though, Mike, you 'forced' them into themovie, whereas in the other two movies it seemed plausible and natural. Now on the Transformers side of the equation I was giddy...yes I saidgiddy...that you at least included Shockwave in the film. This was agood call in the writing department. And Leonard Nimoy as SentinelPrime, he's been doing voices for years since the days of Spock so itfit very well. Now for the REAL thorns in my side. I feel betrayed. No, let merephrase that, I believe this film has betrayed three characters.Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Sam Witwicky. First with the leastimportant (sorry, die hards): Sam. At one point in the film, Sam is'forced' under threat of girlfriend death (oh what a tragic loss thatwould be) to gather intelligence on Optimus' plans after Sentinel goesass-kickery on the NEST team. Now in the first two movies, you haveessentially created Sam as a morally 'good' archetype, ethically doingthe right thing even under the threat of losing his own life. I mean,he risked life and limb (including his girlfriend-at-the time, playedby Megan) to save Optimus Prime, so why, oh why, idiot writers did yousuddenly decide that Sam should be morally ambiguous and put him in asituation where he ACTUALLY complies with the demands and betraysOptimus? Next Megatron. At one point in the film Rosie actually has thegall to stride right up to Megatron (taking a chill pill in an alleywith all hell breaking loose all-around, might I add) and convinces himthat Sentinel is going to betray him. OK, #1- What is Megatron doinglazing about in an alley? #2- Why is he listening to a 'pitiful humaninsect' and #3- Let's say Megatron believes her, why would he let saidinsect live afterwards? And 4, finally oh #4- Megatron ACTUALLY swoopsin to save Optimus Prime, his sworn enemy and Nemesis, from themaniacal Sentinel Prime...like a misunderstood bad guy. Face it kids,if you knew anything about Transformers lore past and present, you knowMegatron is NOT misunderstood. He is as good an archetype of evil andbadness if there ever was one. So him coming in to save Optimus is abetrayal of the character. Now finally, Optimus, poor Optimus, you wereforced to make many errors for the sake of terrible writing. #1- YouLIED. You LIED to your friend Sam. You let him believe, and evenordered Bumblebee to let him believe you were going to leave humanityto its fate. You are the symbol of all that is good and just. Asoldier, at heart, but still a decent being of...metal.You...do...NOT...LIE. #2- At the end, Megatron saves your life bydefeating Sentinel and leaving him prostrate and crippled before you.How do you return the act of good Megatron for some weird reasonconveyed? You kill him, and then you kill a Sentinel Prime that isbegging for mercy before you. You have turned Optimus...you have turnedto the dark side.Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your viewpoint, the serieshas been stopped dead and I would seriously be mortified if they triedto force a number four out of the franchise, with all of the bigcharacter deaths and horrid story changes, this series may have toslumber for 20-30 years before resurrection. Peter Cullen, I knowyou'll be 90 to 100 by that point, but I do sincerely hope you may beable to help us out once more when we're in need of Transformersawesomeness and the overpaid writers in Hollywood are sent into exileover what they've done here...

Breaktaking..Must Watch.IMAX

Alright so we all heard it a million times. The second movie sucked. Thats just the truth. So after being extremely disappointed last time, I figured we had nowhere to go but up this time round. And boy did we ever. I saw this in IMAX and the visuals in 3-D were phenomenal. Some of the scenes made my jaw drop, similar to Inception & Avatar. I suggest if you can see in IMAX, you take advantage of it. The story of this is far better than the last and was actually coherent. I also felt Rosie did a perfectly fine job replacing Megan Fox and Michael Bay even gave her a larger role, which was interesting. You won't miss her, I don't think. My only complaint would be the film should of been edited a little tighter because the final showdown last a bit too long at almost an hour. I say 20 minutes less for the movie as a hole would of helped a lot. But on the flip side, this may be the last one we see for a few years until a reboot I imagine, so enjoy it while you can. If you were a fan of the original you should without question see this and definitely in 3-D. The 3-D is as good if not better than it was in Avatar. Also watch out the Wing Suit scene, amazing visuals.

Awesome in every sense of the word

This movie... was awesome. i mean AWESOME!Sure there's some dodgy stuff about it (Rosie Huntington Whitely'sperformance for one) but then what the heck did you expect from a moviethat's essentially about gigantic fighting robots?i know that's not an "excuse" sure... why should we lower ourexpectations when it comes to big summer blockbusters? why should weexpect no real story or strong non-stereotypical characters? i'll tellyou why... it's because it's a big flipping action movie that'sessentially about gigantic fighting robots. the whole premise of transformers (remember, based on toys) isridiculous. It's preposterous. but it IS AWESOME. so, in fact, no, idon't want to be wasting my brain too much getting really 'in' to howdeep and thoughtful the movie is. yawn-o-rama. Having said that, a story is present here, and it works perfectly wellfor the source material. It tells of a device that has the power tore-shape the universe.re-shape what i hear you cry? the universe? YES! THE UNIVERSE! that'sepic man i don't care what you say. it plays out mostly like an epicfantasy, with it's own mythology and world relatable history. and man, what more do you want? Michael Bay is the king of blowing stuff up. He's the man here whodreamt "what would it be like it bunches of massive metallictransforming alien robots started having a war on our planet, smashingeach other and everything around them to smithereens" And I'm so gladhe did dream that dream. because this movie perfectly portrays exactlywhat i'd imagine would happen if this was in fact the case.We need this guy. Nobody creates this kind of spectacle like he does.it's so impressive. I can't even imagine beginning to conceive some ofthe sequences he pulls off in this movie. and he does it with suchease. It's so easy to hate michael bay, sure it is. he makes big dumbaction movies, but we know this, and i really really enjoy a big dumbaction movie once in a while. it's so much fun.michael bay is the man. yes, THE MAN. he is your man for pure explosivespectacle. No one else would have done a better job of this movie. Igenuinely believe that.Beautifully mixing perfectly realised CG effects with epic locations. The camera always at some kind of ridiculous angle that makeseverything look GINORMOUS. Huge towering sky scrapers, and vastlandscapes setting the backdrop for the showdown. It's a movie that knows exactly what it is, and who it's aimed at(that's right, horny teenage boys) and because of that, this movieDELIVERS. I'm now in my twenties, but when I was a young teenager, alli wanted to see was some awesome action, some crazy effects and somehot women. boom boom boom. this movie nails it.Given most of the reviews from critics and again here on IMDb, peopleseem to have forgotten what fun it is to go and watch a real eventmovie. To see something that will blow you away. To have an experience.(3D came about for this reason) You want your ears bleeding, you wantyour eyeballs popping out, you wanna be guzzling your popcorn at allthe visual thrills. well i do at least. i love movies. i love everything about movies. and i loved this movie.for all it's obvious flaws, it's not trying to be anything but what itis. and i love it for that. sorry if i rambled on there. i know it's not the most eloquentlywritten review. i think you get the idea of how i felt about thismovie.go see it with your brain tuned the right way and you'll have a blast.

Best Action Movie Ever Made

This is this time when Michael Bay have made a excellent film, after 2great parts he have made a masterpiece. Yes,a masterpiece is laugh whenit should be,it is dark and emotional when it should be and it isAWESOME when it should be. Of course first 1:30 out of 2:30 isn't so soepic,of course we have battles, action scenes but in this first 1:30mins action is on second plan, but the final 1h (SPOILER*it starts withstart of destroying city at night END OF SPOILER*) is such an amazingjob of computers and first time you can really felt emotional onMichael Bay film, good work! Seriously watch this movie it has greateffects, shots, music, plot (of course it's not a great plot but it'sgreat TRANSFORMERS plot) and i don't understand how someone can saythat this is boring.

Transformers the ultimate in action films!!!

Fan 'freakin' tastic!!!! How anyone in their right mind could condemnthis series and say bad things about it is beyond my point of rationalthinking! State of the art beyond realistic CGI, action coming out ofyour ying yang with characters of epic proportions. In this latest gemfrom cream of the crop action director Michael Bay, after a series ofevents in the States history of Moon landings, the evil Decepticons, still ruled with an iron fist (no puns intended) by the villainousMegatron(voiced by the ultimate villain actor Hugo Weaving) plan onturning earth itself into their new home planet of Cybertron. Greatstoryline, great cast and great pretty much everything!!!!!

The Dark Side of Spock

Greetings again from the darkness. It would be unfair to analyze, critique or compare this to any "normal" movie. Being somewhat limitedin scope by the source material, director Michael Bay, delivers whatthe fans want ... full scale noise and all-out action. While he admitted that part two of this trilogy was lacking much, itappears his efforts to improve part three come not from scriptimprovement, but rather by tossing in some familiar Hollywood faces:John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Patrick Dempsey and Ken Jeong. Oh,and we also get Bill O'Reilly, an odd sequence with legendary Apollo 11astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and the best surprise - Leonard Nimoy voicingSentinel Prime. Most of the same key players are back: Shia LaBeouf as Sam (friend toOptimus Prime), John Turturro (cashed in on his 10 min of fame), JoshDuhamel and Tyrese Gibson as soldiers, and Kevin Dunn and Julie Whiteas Sam's parents in a couple of throw away scenes that cost much lessthan the CGI that dominates the movie. While I remain an avid opponent to 3-D, this film offers a few of thebest uses since Avatar. Unfortunately the dimmed coloring offset thebenefits and continue to annoy me. Just remove your glassesperiodically and you can easily see how much brighter the colors arewithout the 3-D muting. Such a shame.Michael Bay knows explosions. And there are no shortage on displayhere. We get plenty of rock 'em sock 'em action and the military is onfull display, especially with some pretty cool skydiving tactics. Heck,we even get Frances McDormand as a power-hungry bureaucrat. For thosewho know Chicago, the familiar sights abound. The Wrigley Buildingplays a vital role, though it still bothers me a bit to see askyscraper destroyed. I will say the tilted office is not close to therotating hallway of Inception, though the effort is appreciated. The battle of the robots is what people pay to see and the 40 plusminute final battle is something to behold, even if it drags onentirely too long. And I can't fail to mention that the lack ofpresence of Megan Fox' character is explained a couple of times ashaving "dumped" Sam. Sam has rebounded nicely with Carly, played bysupermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who looks just fine in a $200,000Mercedes, a slim white dress or conversing with an injured villainousrobot. Yes, one must maintain a sense of humor during the film. The use of slo-motion, the ties to the space program, and theconnection to Chernobyl are all a bit heavy-handed, but this is aTransformers movie, not a documentary. And the actual transformation ofthese guys is still one of the coolest on screen moments you can find... even if the story and dialogue will have you desperate for brainresuscitation when the movie finally ends.

Franchise rises above part two's sub-standard effort

After a fine first effort in the action/adventure department with thefirst "Transformers," the series ran into major writer's block (as wellas a writer's strike) with the horrid second installment. And whilestill not up to the inaugural's standard, the newest release,"Transformers: Dark Of the Moon," is a decent addition and captures -somewhat - that movie's intense action scenes, as well as much of thehumor. It actually could have been even better if not for the female lead(Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - I never thought I would miss the actingtalents of Megan Fox), who is nothing but eye candy in high heels. After the confusion of the end of part two, with no one knowing whatwas going on and which robot was fighting which, this edition beginswith the defeated Deceptacons in exile while the Autobots are involvedin an uneasy co-operation with their human hosts. Acting asinternational peacekeepers, they are soon called upon to answer adecades-old rumor about beings on the Moon, as well as other alienconspiracies. When Optimus Prime (voice of Peter Cullen) travels to the lunar surfaceto bring back his former leader, Sentinel Prime (Leonard Nimoy), withseveral "space bridge" pillars, a plan is fomented that may bring therobots back to the brink of war again - with the measly humans onceagain caught in the middle. Meanwhile, Sam (Shia LeBeouf) is trying tosecure a low-level entry position in a company run by the wacky JohnMalkovich (this despite dating an international supermodel). At this firm, he runs into the spaced-out Jerry Wang (Ken Jeong, "TheHangover 2") and learns of the goings-on over at the dark side of theMoon. Also in place is former Cia agent Seymour Simmons (John Turturro,"Cars 2"), and current Central Intelligence deputy director, Mearing(Francis McDormand). When the Primes begin to fight amongst themselves, exiled Megatron (Hugo Weaving) makes its long awaited appearance.Battle sequences are appropriately loud and violent, while the additionof blood pouring from the gaping wounds of the machines will be awelcome sight for most 14-year-old boys in the audience. The decibelsare still there from part two, but the distractions have been kept to aminimum. Director Michael Bay, who learned the art of subtly and nuance on theset of "Pearl Harbor," also wisely puts back much of the comedic touchthat made the original so successful. Sure, Sam's dopey parents arestill here (thankfully, for just a few scenes), but there are some reallaughs in this version. Makovich, Joeng, Turturro and Alan Tudyk ("3:10To Yuma," Steve the Pirate in "Dodgeball") are the one's responsiblefor most of the giggles. As far as the CGI work, it's something we have come to expect from thisfranchise, but the work is seamless in this film, as well; and withapocalyptic conflicts going on, with half of the city of Chicagodestroyed, the graphics department acquitted themselves nicely.Overall, "Transformers: Dark Of the Moon" does what it sets out to do,entertain the masses and rake in millions at the box office. It's not Shakespeare, but I did not expect it to be. It's a two-plushour ride that will leave one mentally unstimulated but a bitphysically exhausted, and during the long hot days of summer, that'snot an entirely bad thing.

Bloated, overlong, messy, and that first half? Ugh

** out of (****)Walking into "Transformers: Dark of the Moon", you don't expect Oscarcaliber or anything good for that matter. You go merely to seegratuitous explosions, an attractive love interest that's as hot asbutter, and this time around, it's in 3D! I'm all up for leaving mybrain at the door, but when you ask me to do that for nearly 3 hours, where I'm bored the hell out of my mind for 2/3 of that, you can countme out. The problem with "Dark of the Moon" isn't because of the storyor acting (we expected that since day one), it's because it takes amillennium to get going, the action scenes are way too repetitive, andthe resolution always leaves something to be desired. I sound like abitter old man but in actuality, I'm in the demographic for this film. When Michael Bay puts some originality into his set pieces, takes outthe convoluted and tiresome story arcs, and trims about an hour off ofhis movies, then he can give me a call.See, that's also the problem. For these movies, the plot is always solong and details, but it goes nowhere and doesn't make any sense. It'sa movie about robot vs. robot, can't we just leave it that way? Wedon't need a long, unnecessary explanation that serves as filler. That's why the whole first two acts suffered. Nothing interesting, nothing worth my time. It's just filler. And by the time the actionrolled around, I just didn't care. It's almost as if Bay copied andpasted the action from his last film into this one. As for the 3D? While I disliked the movie, I cannot deny it, it wasworth it. The depth is just outstanding and the explosions have layers. It wasn't at Avatar's 3D brilliance, but oh boy, was it close enough. And the special effects? The robots look the best this time around andit shows Bay knows what he's doing. Too bad the action is repetitiveand the film is a total bore. While I've had my rant, I have to say, this wasn't the worst"Transformers" and was actually an improvement over part two. Lesscorny jokes (thank god!) and this time, we can actually SEE what'sgoing on! All in all, I didn't hate "Dark of the Moon". It could've been worse, but it could've been so much better. The day Bay makes a solid popcornflick, I'll give his film a good review. Yes, your film doesn't alwaysneed to rely on story and development, but when you make trash, atleast put some effort and excitement into it. When you haveover-inflated trash, I don't care if I see it in 20D, it's just trash.

Good for the series

I liked this movie. After the first two I thought this one lookedpretty good, better than the first two. It was. I was expecting a longfinal battle sequence. It took up almost half the movie, which wascool. The acting was pretty good, not to bad. The special effects weresome of the best I had ever seen. The Oscar nominated special effectswere very fluid. The explosions and fight scenes looked almost morethan real. I liked the story, too. I liked the Sentinal Prime betrayalthing, but, the thing with the pillars was kinda strange. The things Ididn't like about it was that it starts out slow and sort of dull. Butafter that it gets steadily better and better. So, for all that I giveit an eight out of ten. I do recommend this movie for people who likegreat special effects and action.

Absolutely Dreadful

THIS CONTAINS A HINT OF SPOILER.The first thing people say when you tell them how bad this movie was,"Why are you thinking in a Michael Bay movie?"Unfortunately, unlike some of the clapping, giggling, mouth breathingmorons who I had to spend 3 hours sitting through this crap with, Icannot turn my brain off. I like to be entertained and at the sametime, be told a story.Michael Bay cannot be bothered to tell me a story. In fact, Michael Baycouldn't be bothered to make a movie that made any sense. Frombeginning to end, Transformers 3 was 2hrs and 45mins of explosions,CGI, more explosions and one of the most disjointed, badly acted, horribly written pieces of dredge I've ever seen. There are plot holes wide enough to fit Cybertron through (and, funnilyenough, this actually occurs), while every actor phones in theirperformance, trying extremely hard not to rush off the set to thumbthrough the countless millions they earned to simply appear on set andstay standing.Yet, after reading some of these reviews, I'm also beginning to thinkit's Bay's attempt to gauge the intelligence of his viewership. If allthe peasant majority need to be seduced is an incredibly loudsoundtrack and footage of robots fighting, then I have a very strong

Transformed from better to excellence.

I feel like cursing people who hated this movie. What kind of peopleare they who hated this movie? - People who watched Transformers justbecause of Megan Fox (Mikaela)or who didn't have clue what the hell wasgoing on in this movie. First of all, they might be confused becausethey didn't even know who is who and who is doing what. For God's sake, have they even watched the G1? This is how it all works. From the Robotstories to their wars. Don't use your brain when watching this movie.Accept the fact that this might be possible before watching movie. Keepyour brain at home and go watch the movie! Michael Bay did a fantasticjob from direction to actors. All were fantastic! He even haddiscussion with James Cameron on 3-D effects. From my opinion, the 3-Deffects were as good as Avatar. Let me make things clear. This movie is better than Revenge of thefallen. (Although I don't consider that movie terrible). Good storyline. I recommend you to go and watch the movie or perhaps I shallOrder you to GO WATCH THIS! Don't miss!

One of the worst blockbusters in recent memory.

This movie was bad.First, to put my review in context, I enjoyed the first Transformersfilm. I've enjoyed some of Bay's other action films like Bad Boys IIbut I hated Armageddon. I was indifferent to The Island.Transformers: Dark of the Moon is Bay's worst effort yet.STORY: D+1. I did not know what was happening most of the time. They've squeezedmost of the story into the first 1.5 hours. The last hour is just onevery VERY long yawn-inducing action sequence. I didn't feel anysuspense.2. The Decepticons lacked menace because I didn't know whichTransformer was good or bad. Even when I did, they weren't scary.3. The final, effects laden, hour seemed to drag on and on. And on.Forever. I could hear people next to me sighing and checking theirphone. Seriously, some people even used it as an opportunity to visitthe rest room (they shouldn't have come back). A couple of peoplewalked out 20 minutes before the film ended. I too, wanted the film toend. The action would have had some suspense and meaning if they hadspread it out throughout the film. I just didn't feel any emotionalattachment to anything that was occurring on screen. I didn't care.THE JOKES: DSome of the audience laughed at about five or six of the jokes. Ididn't laugh at any.SPECIAL EFFECTS: C-1. Special Effects are no longer "special" if they are over-used and ifnot placed in some kind of context. (I could easily say that Avatar hadtoo much CG, but everything was in context. There was a reason forevery special effect - nice waterfalls to capture the beauty ofPandora, glowing nightlife to convey the planet's uniqueness, heavyman-made transformers-like machinery gradually invading Pandora'sforest to capture man's influence on it's natural surroundings, all ofthese being a crucial component of the story).2. CG robots get flung around into buildings etc. but there is neverany sense of weight to any of the Transformers.3. The so-called money shot of the skyscraper toppling over becomesjust another routinely pointless CG shot stuck in there because theyhad cash to burn. Unfortunately, by then, I had become desensitized tothe noise, violence and excessive, endless and overused CG. Everythinghad just lost its "wow" factor and I just wanted the film to endquickly.4. I couldn't differentiate between the Decepticons and the Autobots.ACTING: FNo comment. Don't get me started.3D: C+I know 3D is still in its infancy (as of July 2011) but the whole filmjust looked too dark in 3D. I would have been more comfortable seeingthis in nice and bright 2D - remember that 3D doesn't make a bad filmbetter. I felt a little nauseous afterward (like motion sickness) - I'msure I'm not the only person, but this would probably put some peopleoff from seeing 3D films in future and is something studios need tolook into.SOUND: B-The sound was effective but not innovative. The action was too loud.Couldn't hear ANY of the dialog.MUSIC: DNothing memorable about the music. If anything, it was too loud aswell. FINAL NOTE:You can tell if a film is good or bad by observing members of theaudience when the end credits start rolling. I remember when the firstTransformers and Avatar ended, people applauded. If a film is good, people may also stay behind a few seconds and try to absorb whatthey've just seen. In the case of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, assoon as "Directed by Michael Bay" appeared, people got up and ran out.I heard someone say "finally, thank god it's over". This film is a hugedisservice to the theater industry and even more so - 3D films. I'm notplanning on going to the movies anytime soon after this massivelydisappointing experience.
