it gives vampires a bad name

I can go on for days about how much i hate this movie. First off,Robert Pattinson is a horrible actor. the only good movie he was everin was harry potter 4. It changes everything you know about vampires. Iam tired of all the 10-12 year old girls screaming about this movie. Its just so stupid. i've seen if any of my friends liked it, they allsaid they rather watch disaster movie then this movie. WARNING SPOILERALERT: So the plot is that Bella (Kristen Stewart) is going to livewith her father. when she starts school she meets a strange boy namedEdward (Robert Pattinson). She finds out he is a vampire then she istracked down by three other vampires. That's all I'm going to say. Justnever see this movie. read the books instead. if people ever makeanother book don't make it into a movie.

Another tasteless vampire movie

Vampire with different super abilities?I would rather watch HEROes. can we have some more original creativemovie directors. Come on, draw a picture of the future, read ppl'smind... If I was the director of Heroes I would sue this movie for intellectualproperty theft.Last point. Vampire turn diamond when they expose their self in thesunlight? And cutting Onion in the class? This director must on drug, when hewrote the script. Please avoid this movie at all cost.

A waste of time.

Twilight has been one of the most pointless movies I have ever satthrough in my entire life. The acting is painful and the story isawful. The vampires are unimaginative. Vampires are normally known tobe stealthy since they can't go in the sunlight but instead thissuggests that vampires are great big diamonds that sparkle in thesunlight. The fight scene at the end is a rip of power rangers just cheaply done. The only reason why this movie is praised is because of RobertPattinson but he just gives a really bad acting and along with a sillybig square head. All in all watch the movie if you can tolerate awful acting. Terriblestory lines. The movie is cringe worthy and embarrassing.

Not quite what I'd hoped for

I went into this movie knowing it wasn't going to be as good as thebook, but I'm sad to say that it was one of my least favouritebook-to-movies I've seen. The Twilight series, while not necessarilythe most extraordinarily written books, are captivating because of thetrue humanness and relatability of the characters (even those thataren't human), and the tension and emotion that you feel throughout allof the books. For me, this is the element that the movie truly lacked.Firstly, the script was awful at times. The actors seemed awkward, anda lot of their lines seemed very forced. The dialogue was not natural, and seemed to be trying to make small-town kids sound like they camefrom a major city, perhaps to make them more relatable. The effect wasjust awkward conversations that had me laughing in embarrassment. The interactions between the characters were awkward as well. I don'tknow if that was because the actors didn't know each other well anddidn't have any connections or just bad casting, but I hardly felt anychemistry between most of the characters, and you hardly get a sensefor who any of the human characters really are. There was something offbetween Bella and Edward, a weird tension that's quite different fromthe romantic tension felt in the book after Edward's secret is out inthe open. The only interactions I really believed were between theCullens. You both get a sense of family dynamic and the separaterelationships in the family, not just between the couples, but thehatred between Rosalie and Edward and Jasper not quite fitting in withthe family just yet. The baseball scene, with only the vampires andBella seemed to me the most natural, and was certainly my favourite.I found myself laughing at the movie in the most awkward of places, such as the action or romance scenes. I feel like the movie took itselftoo seriously; the actions scenes were unbelievably tense, even in amovie about deadly vampires, and the romance scenes were so cheesy andcliché at times that I just couldn't help but laugh. If you're going tohave that much drama in a movie, you have to tone it down or else itgets overwhelming and makes it seem like the people behind the movieare just trying too hard. The books were much more subtle, though Iunderstand with a limited amount of time it is harder to get somethings across.Something seemed incredibly off about Bella. In the books, Bella is abit sarcastic with a very stubborn edge, who can't see her ownweaknesses or even the true danger that she is in. The Bella in themovie was fully aware of Edward's deadly potential, but didn't seem tocare. The scene when Edward is trying to prove to her that he isdangerous while Bella simply stands there, looking and sounding likeshe's about to scream and run away but saying that she doesn't caremakes her look less like she's desperately in love with Edward and morelike she's just stupid. A few of the other characters, such as Angelaand Edward, seemed off too, something that became rather distractingafter a while. Only the Cullens seemed to me to be as close to theircharacters in the books as they could be.I can only hope that New Moon will have both a different director andwriter. Perhaps the actors will feel more comfortable with each otherthe second time around, and hopefully the dialogue will be morenatural. The movie wasn't terrible, but it didn't live up to the bookat all, even with the limitations of time. I believe that for those whohave read the book, the movie will be so-so, with some parts that youare able to appreciate, and others that you feel embarrassed about, butfor those who haven't read the book, I think this movie will be a bitconfusing and have you wondering why so many people are into Twilight.

Teenage romance spotlights Kristen Stewart

In a teenage romance written, directed and mostly made by women (seecredits), a pretty teen girl seeks love with the bad kid and finds he'snot so very bad after all. There are worse traits in a guy than being avampire and living in a coven. For example, he could have been an ACORNworker fraudulently registering voters in the battleground state ofWashington. But no, he just has this vampire thing and he's trying togo veg. Truthfully, the whole coven of vampires seem pretty nice, andif they moved into my neighborhood I could do worse.Men, for certain, will like Kristen Stewart. She's pretty, petite, slender, small-breasted -- all the physical things I like; plus if youread about her she also has good values. The real question is what dogirls really want. This movie gives you the answer. From the novel'sauthor, going right through the movie's 76% female credits, they aretelling us they want an interesting bad guy and they want to applytheir love to make him over.As a vampire movie, Twilight is awful. Even the "bad" vampires aren'tso bad. But Twilight is NOT a vampire movie; it's pure romance. Notbad.

MIND TANGLING

I persuaded my husband to go with me....it did not take much, anyway ... neither one of us could take our eyes off the screen... the chemistry ... facial expressions...slow motion...the extreme wanting... the burn. It was us but on screen... minus the vampire flare of course. For us it was like looking in a mirror....and the twilight saga is amazing. I thought about the movie for days....weeks. I was completely taken by it.... it was not at all what I expected... it was so much better to the contrary. I hope they keep all of the actors for the following film... sequels. With the same actors, well it just makes it all the more astonishing....that may not be the word I am looking for but I'm sure some of you follow.

Its built-in fanbase (thanks to the best-selling novel) is ready to swoon. I'm not one of those swooners but even I had a great time indulging in the earnest urgency.

I thought it was good...why so harsh?

The books were way better. But Twilight did capture the main points ofthe book.It was very good compared to what they had to work with.Insome points it did drag on, and lots of things weren't there at all.ButI thought it was good.Don't listen to haters, please.Because all theywant to do is play critic-of-the-year and decide for you what's goodand what's not.Twilight, all in all, wasn't bad.It wasn't amazing, either. But it was adecent movie to watch.I really enjoyed it, almost as much as I enjoyedthe book.Haters don't like it because of the sparkling. It'simagination, people. There is no actual definition of what a vampirelooks like.So there is no actual description of what they should be.The acting...could have been better. But it was believable. And if youdon't like this movie, then don't trash the book. The books arebetter. And who says Stephenie Meyer can't write?I'm sure shecan.Because I found all of the books hard to put down. And, she got thempublished, so it couldn't be as bad as you think. It is also not gay.Whoever says it's gay obviously needs a dictionaryin front of them to look up the meaning of the word "gay".Gay eithermeans happy or attracted to the same sex. There are no gays/lesbians inthe movie, and I don't find anything happy about it, so therefore it isnot gay.By any means.People really need to lighten up.A lot.Because itis a good movie. But I would recommend this.

Please read.

This film was extremely disappointing. If you have read the book youknow what i mean! Whoever wrote the script probably didn't read thebook. When came out in the cinema i was ecstatic! I was really lookingforward to seeing it, I mean who wouldn't when Robert Pattinson is init! But all it was, was a series of gasps and awkward situations-andthat was only on Bella's side! Okay.. lets face it Robert Pattinson isnot great at doing an American accent. I thought it was going to be awarm, feel good film- but it was as cold as Edward Cullen himself! Nowi am not saying it wasn't an amazing film-because it really was! It wasjust not what I expected at all!xox.

Hollywood is SCREWED UP

how could anyone like this movie, i don't know,my only theory is thatthe movie theater put booze in the popcorn and people werehallucinating, because this movie is completely idiotic. I have amessage for Hollywood, and it's completely insane because they've onlydone it a few times in recent history: make a decent movie, please. Ifyou want to waste two hours of your life, go ahead and see it. I mean, seriously, these twilight fans need to get a life. For GODS SAKE, don'tsee it, you will regret it very much, unless you're one of those rabidhyena fans1/10

Another Awful Adaptation

Many times before, we have been disappointed with bad noveladaptations, and this is perhaps the worst case I know of. The plot isdriven too fast and it's outline doesn't have any support at all. It'schronological sequence is very vague and senseless, also dialogues aretoo lazy. And if this was little, the acting doesn't help at all, thevisual effects are not even interesting. Maybe just the music and thephotography are worth but the dizzy editing spoils it at it's whole. Itdoesn't deserve your time, there are other ways to bore yourself, andfor free. Just because it's a fashion film it don't necessarily makesit a good film.

Glad I saw the movie first

Okay, so I saw the movie skeptically b/c I was thinking it was sort of a teenager cult type deal and was pleasantly surprised. I loved the way that it made me coo. So the next day I bought the first Twilight book and stormed through it in a day and a half. Read the other 3 1/2 just as fast. Loved almost every minute of them. So I can look at the movie a little differently now. Boy had a lot changed from the book. Characters were added and some deleted, personalities were altered, it was just strange to see the adaptation that the movie took. But, it's nice, but if I had read the book first, I am pretty sure I would have cursed through the entire thing. But of course, this is just my humble opinion.

(11 April 2012)

Gosh!!! you all going to hate me

I really didnt like this movie ... i down right kind of hated it ... i loved the books! I was a fan before anyone even knew about them I would say... but i thought the movie was missing a lot .. yes its fine for a one shot kind of movie but thats it .. they forgot a lot of great parts that where in the books and not in the movie then what the point .. also for the new moon how can they make little jack black look so big ... they are going to use the same actor well his only like 5'8 something ... in new moon he becomes 6 foot something ... i really dont see how that is going to work but yet again thats me ...

HumanoidOfFlesh (11 April 2012)

The biggest load of teenybopper trash I have recently seen.

Handsome beautiful vampires with pale faces.I'm sure that sixteen orseventeen year old girlies are dreaming about meeting such enigmaticvampire presence as Edward Cullen."Twilight" consists tons of annoyingextreme close-ups of Edward and Bella faces and a lot of slow-motionmoments.Robert Pattinson's performance is over-acted and the dialogueis unspeakably horrible."Twilight" is unintentionally ridiculous andtakes itself way too seriously.Everything about the technical directionfrom the melodramatic cinematography to the unbearably corny score isjust plain bad.And those two elements alone are nearly enough to make"Twilight" an unwatchable film. There is no suspense,no gore-just abunch of annoying bloodsuckers, our romantic vampire Edward and hisslave of love. The target of "Twilight" is simple:teenage girls obsessedwith popcorn vampire romanticism.I guess I'm not a fan.Watch Swedish"Let the Right One In" instead of this over-hyped garbage.1 out of 10.

Delicious, loyal, breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking and...wow!

Allow me to begin by saying that I am deeply sceptical of thebook-movie translation. As a Harry Potter fan, I was deeplydisappointed with the films adaptation of the plot and most especially- the characters. As a huge fan of Twilight, I was similarly sceptical, but after seeingvarious trailers and TV spots I was almost convinced that I was wrong. This Sunday I was lucky enough to be one of the few in the UK to attenda press screening of the film and I was just blown away. The film is incredible. In every single aspect. The most importantfeature, is - of course - Robert Pattinson playing the iconic EdwardCullen. He was flawless, and that in itself is an understatement. Theentire crew was amazing, I have never seen a film cast so well in mylife. Each character was themselves, even down to amusing extras. Tome, the best way to describe it was the book coming to life. It has tobe said that this is THE BEST book-movie adaptation I have ever seen.Everything about it just took my breath away. The music was stunning, and perfect for every scene, the sets andlocations were drenched in raw beauty, adding to the dark ominousfeeling that Forks dishes out. The script was fantastic, most of it wasverbatim from the book, except for the occasional, excellent add-in,most of which was hilarious and had the whole audience laughing. That,in my opinion, was one thing Twilight the book really lacked - humour. The interesting little scenes with Charlie really gave it that, leadingme to the conclusion - dare I even speak it's blasphemous nature? - Thefilm is, in a lot of ways, BETTER than the book.Robert WAS Edward Cullen, I felt his torment and ardour in everythinghe did. Every single girl in the audience screamed when he first cameon the screen, and I wanted to join in. He wasn't some stuck up actorplaying at a part - he really was Edward. Kristen played Bella betterthan I ever imagined anyone could, making me like the character morethan I ever did, she gave something to her that I think was missing. The Cullens were utterly delicious, each one picture perfect and withsuch stellar acting and off stage camaraderie, I was more excited aboutseeing them that anything else. Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz had theexact connection between them that I imagined, in fact....EVERYTHINGwas exactly as I imagined, from the layout of Bella's bedroom, to theschool and most definitely all the characters. The plot was fast paced in parts, and wonderfully lingering in others. The kiss scene actually made me blush, it felt too private for otherpeople to be watching. The villains were amazing, beautiful andterrifying at the same time. I never thought anyone could really pullof the 'friendly killer' look, but Cam sure did that.More than that, more than anything else - I felt Bella and Edward'slove for one another, in an almost tangible way. This film cannot bethrown discarded as another 'Vampire' film. It's barely even that, moreit is a love story and by God it's a mouth-watering one.Magnificent, addictive, beautiful and loyal. I cried, I laughed, Imelted. See it!

erica-a-berger (03 April 2012)

Grew on me!

As an avid Twilight reader, I have to say that for the first 40minutes, all I could think of was how Summit was absolutely ruining thebook. I was so upset that the sequence of events were changed, and thatactual moments were shifted and misrepresented to the point that Iwould have gotten up and left had it not been for Robert Pattinson'sawkwardly handsome face. And then, I let go of my attachment to thespecifics of the book, and actually started paying attention to thedynamics of the film. It's a very well done adaptation. It'saesthetically pleasing, and is cast very well. The colors are perfect, and the depiction of the awkward relationship between Bella and Edwardis at points hilarious, and at other points, poignant. Go see it, ifnot just to plug into the hype, but to appreciate the differencesbetween the film and the book, and how a film does not need toperfectly copy a book to be just as lovely.

crying-scarlet-tears (02 April 2012)

Totally unfinished

I read the first book when it was first published....I was totallypulled into it and couldn't put it down. The film took out so manythings in the book and it ended not even half way through the book! Itwas totally cut short- which was annoying. The film was good, but missedout all the good bits!! The Characters were roughly how I imagined themto be. Alice I imagined to look quite young- but I do like who they'vegot for Alice. They've definitely got the right person for Bella andher dad Charlie. Edward I imagined to be more handsome and the same forJacob. The film was quite beautiful in some scenes but it definitelycould do being longer to have more of the book in it. Some films havebeen 5 hours long- so I don't understand why they couldn't have madethis film longer.

Jeffrey Westhoff (01 April 2012)

The longer the revelations drag out, the duller Twilight gets. And the revelations drag on a long time - three quarters of the movie.

brit15012 (26 March 2012)

Give Credit Where Credit is Due

Okay, so the adaptation from the novel wasn't very good, and thespecial effects were terrible, but for someone who doesn't get crazywhen a movie does not follow a book exactly, then I think Twilightdelivers. The big box office draw and the millions of dollars thismovie brought in WILL make the next three better because they can spendmore on effects, writers, and other things that made Twilight lackluster. Those who have read the book seem to be the ones making themost fuss about the movie. Nearly every person I talked to who wascompletely unaware of the story-line before entering theaters has toldme they enjoyed the film. The sets, make-up, and overall cinematographyare all nicely done and the ensemble cast of unknowns can actually act, which was a pleasant surprise. Rob Pattinson did an amazing jobportraying the sadness, angst, and awkwardness of a Vampire who hateshimself and has been devoid of real love for over a century. He did amarvelous job and if for nothing else, I would see this movie for hisperformance. So there it is. Twilight is not the best movie I have seenall year, but it is certainly not the worst. It left something to bedesired, but expect the next installments to be big box office worthy.

shebelly12 (25 March 2012)

Terrible.

I think I've been a fan of twilight for about two years. I read allthree books in less than a week, and I and a few of my friends attendedthe release of the fourth book in the Twilight series. It was aboutthat time when I realized the many flaws in the books. They are toonumerous to write about at the moment, because my main focus is themovie. I had long awaited the movie, for almost an entire year. I wasso excited, I found out one of my favorite actors was going to be castas the main character, and I, along with many other twilight fans, eagerly waited as each character was cast. The hype for the movie wasphenomenal. Everyone was talking about it, twilight fans, people whohated the books, people who never even read the books. Good MorningAmerica had a special about the movie; there were trailers all overMyspace, you couldn't check your email with out some story aboutTwilight flashed in your face. It was supposed to be theAction/Romance/Thriller of the year. It wasn't. Let's start with theactors. The character Edward Cullen was supposed to be a sincereperson, who cared about the people who he loved, and would do anythingto protect them. In the movie, he came off as a psychotic stalker. Manyscenes involving him were awkward to watch, and he wasn't even toblame. The script was poorly written, and most of his lines wereclichés. Bella, the female protagonist, was equally awkward. Hercharacter was naturally supposed to be a clumsy, awkward girl, who wasselfless, and understanding of others, but Kristen Stewart'sperformance of Bella was sometimes painful to watch. She had noemotion, and even when she shouted, her facial expression didn'tchange. She was monotonous and boring. The Cullen family was Edwards'sfamily, consisting of the man who turned him into a vampire, his"father" and his "brothers and sisters" who were also turned by hisfather. His brothers Emmett and Jasper, and his sisters, Alice andRosalie, and even his father Carlisle, were all extras. They had fivelines or less, and the story could have continued if they were allerased from the picture. The plot was like a gigantic puzzle. It made no sense unless you hadpreviously read the books and knew what was going to happen anyway. Thedirector skipped scenes vital to the stories plot. The whole chunk ofthe story where Bella is supposed to fall in love with Edward wasskipped. It went from Bella learning that Edward was a vampire, toBella's becoming frantic at the thought of losing him. It just made nosense, the script was so confusing and there were incomplete thoughtsand sentences pulled out of no where. Many people thought that themovie would be aimed at a younger audience, as the books are aimed for,but the movie wasn't aimed at anybody unless they enjoy boring movieswith too few comedic moments and vary bad acting. It was a shoddyperformance, and if not for the few funny scenes, and the far too farapart action scenes, the entire movie would be a flop. I blame thedirector.
