After reading some of the reviews for this movie, it is absolutelyclear that most of the previous reviewers didn't get the point of themovie. It is a FAMILY movie. You don't go to movies to see what you can pick apart, and then write areview that is already predisposed negatively against it. That's juststupid. Anyone who goes into a movie with the attitude they are goingto hate the movie no matter, and writes an extremely negative review isan idiot. The reason to go to movies is to be entertained.Zookeeper was a movie that entertained. The performances by all thecast members were very well done. There were a lot of laughs, and therewas a lot of fun. My son, who by the way is 7, was in the perfectdemographic for this movie. It had interesting characters, andsituations. For an adult, a movie with talking animals might not be your cup oftea, but for a small child, it is awesome. Yes, a child thinks it'sfunny when someone smashes into something or someone. Yes, for anadult, the movie might seem predictable, but truthfully, what movieisn't somewhat predictable? A young child (for whom the movie was madefor) isn't going to be scrutinizing every tiny, single thing in amovie, just to say, " A-HA! SEE, I KNEW IT!". A child goes to themovies to be lost in imagination. My son laughed when there was a funnypart. Whether it was funny because of the animals, or the humans, Iheard a lot of laughter. And yes, I laughed a lot too, and so did mywife. I believe that anyone who goes into this movie with the understandingthat this is a movie targeted towards families with young children, that they will be entertained. This movie hits the mark for theappropriate audience members it was made for.

This review is from: Zookeeper (DVD) I love Kevin James and that I think it is way better then Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Kevin James did an amazing job in the movie and the talking animals are so adorable. I went to see this with my mom and sister for a nice birthday gift for my mom. Absolutely started laughing through the whole movie. I wanted to buy this movie when it came out but I wanted to wait until the movie went on sale. I will be watching this movie over and over again.

Kevin James plays Griffin Keyes, an average guy in an average job. Hehas a kind heart and an above average ability to relate to the animalsin his care as the zookeeper of The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. The film opens with Griffin breaking up with his long time girlfriendStephanie (Leslie Bibb). He weathers the disappointment and we fastforward 5 years where Griffin has now become the head zookeeper. At acelebration of his brother's upcoming wedding, Griffin spots Stephanieand his old feelings for her bubble to the surface. Lost and confusedGriffin's animal buddies come to his rescue by 1 - letting him in onthe secret that animals can communicate with humans (in English noless) and 2 - teaching him how to win the female of his species (advicethat may be better left as that - advice) Some physical humor and notso funny scenes and lines fill out the movie for the long 104 minutes.Rosario Dawson plays Kate, the obvious new love interest for Griffin.Unless you're between the ages of 8 and 12 leave this one unseen - Idon't even think it is worth the matinée price. Maybe catch it sometime when it has been "formatted to fit this screen" and "shortened tofit in the time allotted".

This review is from: Zookeeper [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This is a must own movie. The transfer is top notch and the acting is right on. Great price and a great buy. The animals were very cute too. You won't be disappointed......

I just wanted to write a quick review, especially since all of thecurrent reviews are so negative. I just saw this with my two young kidsand they LOVED it! It is silly, funny and cute - just what I am looking for in a familymovie. My kids were laughing out loud the whole time. If you arelooking for a deep, thought-provoking, meaningful couple of hours thiscertainly isn't it, but it isn't pretending to be either. If you don'ttry to connect all the dots in the storyline and just take it for whatit is, it is very entertaining. The animals are wonderful and have lotsa great lines. And it doesn't hurt that this was filmed at my family'sfavorite zoo (Frankin Park Zoo near Boston).Just a good, solid family movie that the kids will enjoy.

¨I know it shouldn't bother me that you're a zookeeper, but it kind ofdoes.¨Kevin James is at it again, although this time instead of receivinglove advice from Hitch, he's listening to the animals from the zoo. From the trailers I kind of expected this movie to be a cross betweenDr. Doolittle and Night at the Museum, and it definitely was what Iexpected (and even worse). Zookeeper might have been written by fivedifferent screenwriters, but the story and dialogues are far fromoriginal. I couldn't help but sense that I'd seen this movie a milliontimes before. It's like they blended a bunch of James's comediestogether and came up with this mixture called Zookeeper. There arehardly any funny moments in the movie, the talking animals thing isn'tnew and it just didn't work, the characters were all one dimensional, there was no chemistry whatsoever between any of the actors or animals, and the film relied heavily on Kevin James's well known by now physicalcomedy and familiar gags. Frank Coraci has done some greater work inthe past with films like Wedding Singer or Click, but he just missesthe mark this time around. This was truly a messy comedy that nevermanaged to catch my attention, or even get a smile out of me. I had nofun at all with Zookeeper.Griffin Keyes (Kevin James) is a zookeeper who is about to propose tohis beautiful girlfriend, Stephanie (Leslie Bibb), in the beach. He haseverything planned: horseback riding in the sand as the sun sets, amessage in a bottle, a ring, mariachis, and even fireworks. The onlyproblem is that Stephanie says no because she just isn't ready to havea long term relationship with a zookeeper. Five years later, Griffin isstill a zookeeper who seems to be enjoying what he's doing. He excelsin his work and the animals are lucky to have him around. Some of hisco-workers include Venom (Ken Jeong), Shane (Donnie Wahlberg), and thelovely and caring vet Kate (Rosario Dawson). Griffin is preparing hisbrother, Dave (Nat Faxon), an engagement party at the zoo and he runsinto Stephanie once again. She seems interested in him, but he's stillworking at the zoo and he has competition from another one of her exes:Gale (Joe Rogan). The only solution seems to be quitting the zoo andworking with his brother for a luxury car dealership. The animals inthe zoo decide to help Griffin out by breaking their code of silenceand giving him advice on mating. These animals include Bernie theGorilla (voiced by Nick Nolte), Donald the Monkey (Adam Sandler), Joethe Lion (Sylvester Stallone), Janet the Lioness (Cher), Barry theElephant (Judd Apatow), Jerome the Bear (Jon Favreau), and Mollie theGiraffe (Maya Rudolph). Anyone who has seen a romantic comedy before will know where this plotis heading five minutes into the movie. I don't actually have a problemwith this as long as I have a fun time getting to the predicted finale, but the trip just isn't worth it since there are very few funnymoments. The talking CGI animal effects aren't very well done, but thatwouldn't be a problem either if they had been given some funny materialto work with. It's too bad because the cast was really incredible andthey could have done much better work on their own. The only true funnymoment in this movie is the five minute scene between James and thegorilla as they hang out together in TGIF. It is truly a very funnyscene and perhaps the only moment in which James has a connection withone of the characters in the movie. Too bad that was only part of theside story and the entire film focused on something entirely different.Kevin James is a very funny man, but we can see his physical comedyanytime on television. The material he had to work with here was justpathetic, but he is partly to blame because he helped write it. I don'tsee another sequel coming out of this like in Dr. Doolittle or Night atthe Museum because it really goes nowhere. This is the second KevinJames movie that I've seen this month that has completely disappointedme (The Dilemma). Small kids might enjoy the talking animals, butadults will most likely find this movie disappointing.http://estebueno10.blogspot.com/

I thought it was ok. A light romantic comedy. Suitable for kids. I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies, but the kids wanted to watch this movie, so I went along. I did expect a bit more of it, it was quite predicable, but it was entertaining. And the kids liked it. Talking animals always seem to have magical effect on kids, and ... it was fun.

Although this movie is appealing to a young audience with the talking animals it really is not a movie that is appropriate for young children. There were many parts that older children or adults would find funny but I do not think these are things that a young child should here...especially if he/she is a child to repeat things later. This movie should probably have been rated PG-13 not PG.

Kevin James is, I guess, ideal for the lead. But it's gonna take a lotmore than him, animals and familiar voices to make this truly funny. Atbest, this is mediocre material. Is it too much to ask for a movie tobe funny, interesting, or clever? Apparently this movie thinks so. Makeit a fish out of water story if you have too, but this film justdoesn't add up to very much. I also saw "Mr. Popper's Penguins" thisweek, and that is only slightly better. If you really want to see afunny movie about a human who has to contend with animals, watch "FurryVengeance" instead.** out of ****
dtucker86 (11 May 2012)
There is nothing original at all in this movie. Its a blatant rip-offof Doctor Doolittle. Is Hollywood running out of ideas? Its a nice wayto spend 90 minutes but thats about it. I was thinking about John Candywatching this film and I think this is a role he could have played andplayed better then Kevin James did, the role of a lovable, bumbling guywho redeems himself in the end. I guess people who make these talkinganimal movies think its "cute" to have celebrities do the animalvoices. They have Cher, Nick Nolte and Sylvester Stallone here. Berniethe talking gorilla has got to be the funniest on screen simian sinceClyde in Every Which Way But Loose.

The titled character (Kevin James) learns one day that the animals athis facility can actually talk and they make it their mission to helphim find love with a somewhat demented ex-flame (Leslie Bibb) whilesimultaneously we as an audience all know he really belongs withfriendly co-worker Rosario Dawson. "Dr. Dolittle" antics for the mostpart as James talks to the animals with only minimally cute andmemorable results. Voice characterizations led by Nick Nolte, SylvesterStallone, and Cher give the animals personality but really little else.James is definitely a likable comedic force, but he deserves bettermaterial. The leading ladies struggle to keep up his mild momentum andreally the animals are not even needed as their appearances sometimesdistract from what is going on as the plot limps along intodevelopment. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

This review is from: Zookeeper (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) If you can get past the silliness of the plot, there are many funny scenes and dialogue. It ismore of a romantic comedy, but the talking animalswill appeal to children, though much of the humorwould be over their heads. Best for teens? ?

Great movie! My 5 and 8 year old kids and my parents in their 70's all loved this movie. We could not stop laughing and my kids love to quote some things the animals said. I don't know how this movie got some bad reviews from critics!

(Kevin James) is one of the best actors and comedians in the last 50years. So why to make a lame movie with animals? The answer : to be inbusiness, to not be forgotten as a name in unstoppable ruthlessindustry, and to have a wonderful experience with animals BUT did weget any wonderful experience out of watching this ?I feel pity because of an easy script like this. So what was themeaning that the lead is a zoo keeper ?! and what exactly had changedin him after this trip ? and is there any intended similarity betweenhim as a zoo keeper and his ass as a clown ? Then what was the runningtheme in this whole movie anyway ?!! I'm sorry, but the ultimate answerfor all would be : NOTHING!OK, I think the "Trip" just affected the lead in a way to learn morelessons about life or to know what he really wants, and to discovermore credibility around him. But all of that just in damned theoreticalinvisible way ! Even the end's sentimental situation looked fake withsome line that hadn't much persuasion behind it so I can buy it anyway! The major irony is super though it would've been better if the lead'scharacter was animal hater, too pompous arrogant, selfish villainouswho'll going to be redeemed by the events! So speaking of ironies Ithink the biggest of them all is that you have (Kevin James) with sometrained lovely (Vera) through 3000 miles coast to coast 5-dayes odysseyand there isn't more than one laugh along the way !??? What a failure !This movie got the very little, very cursory to present : touchingmoments (the elephant picks up tenderly the funny nose of her deadfriend), comic time (Murray trying to choke a baboon out of tedium),thrilling situations (the loose python one, and maybe the climax) and, sadly more than surprisingly, that was it !As my review's title says, I didn't want to be a movie aboutcharacters, or character ! It didn't make much in area comic movieslike (Any Which Way You Can - 1980) made a lot in it, and it's nothinglike the polished peaceful family adventures that Disney producesyearly (at least they're meaningful !). So it was poor, tasteless, BLABLA BLA, or wait a minute.. It really worked on that level, the levelof making a good BLA BLA BLA !All in all.. The only Zookeeper thing in this movie was its title !
amosduncan_2000 (03 May 2012)
Given the movie track record of Kevin James (who still doesn't make melaugh much) I found this a surprisingly O.K. studio product.. There issome toilet humor but even this is motivated to a degree and I thinkmost parents will find this an acceptable family film. It's a children's film with talking animals so credibility is notreally an issue. Like so much of what comes out of the Adam Sandlerfactory, the big motivation is how a man will do anything to get awoman who looks like a model, but will settle for a "nice" girl in theend, provided She look like a model too. Well, maybe that's the worldwe live in. I dislike celebrity voice work (when those jobs could go to real actorswho need the work) but the stand out parts of the film had to do withThe Gorilla. This is due I think to the work of Nick Nolte who findssomething moving in the part.
